11/24/01 Daily News:  All Hallows Hoops Tandem -- Marvin McCullough and Kiril Wachsmann -- Heading to Iona.

11/24/01 Nathan Blue's Real Scout Hoop Summary (NYC)  NYC Jucos.

11/23/01 Manolo Guzman: 'Edgar Lugo commits to Lehman College and should start play at the Bronx School in January. Edgar Lugo a graduate of Taft High School (PSAL) were he played along side cousin Rafael Garcia, choose Lehman College over several Division 2 schools. Edgar is a great shooter with excellent 3 point range. He can also play all 3 perimeter position which makes him a very valuable player. Lehman College adds another solid recruit to its already great incoming class.'

11/23/01 John Miciotta:  According to well informed sources at All Hallows, point guard Marvin McCullough and center Kyrill Waschmann have both committed to Iona College. Coach Jeff Ruland gets a terrific guard who can lead his talented team from the point guard position in McCullough. And he adds a steadily improving big man who will help in the future by adding Waschmann. I'd also like to report that after a year of not playing basketball, Rob Wiatre, who was one of the top shooters in the CHSAA two years ago at St. Edmund's has surfaced at St. Francis College. He has established himself as a steady player off the bench, who doesn't make mistakes and knocks down open shots.'

11/23/01 Louis Xifaras, Queens RimRockers. 'In light of the recent tragedy's that we all have been facing, another sad story has hit us hard. Nigel Polite, 16, has passed away. A junior attending Molloy High School, Nigel was involved in the basketball program where he won a JV championship last season. This spring was Nigel's first year playing with our organization. Towards the end of the spring he hurt his shoulder and just a few weeks ago was almost back to normal after months of rehab and hard work. Dennis and I last saw Nigel at the I.S. 8 Fall League last month. He will be greatly missed. R.I.P. Nigel. 7/16/85 - 11/21/01.'

11/14/01 Hoop Scoop visitors: 'The first of the fall signing period always falls on the second Wednesday in November and that's tomorrow. However, we're not anticipating a lot of excitement, because most of the top players have already made up their mind. Let's take a closer look. Gone are 22 of our top 25 seniors. And if you exclude 6'10 DeAngelo Collins from Inglewood (H.S.) CA, who is ranked # 7, but who likely will enter his name into the NBA Draft next spring, the next highest ranked uncommitted player is 6'8 Jason Fraser from Amityville (H.S.) NY, who checks in at #19. And that one appears to be so close among Villanova, St. John's, Louisville, and North Carolina that Fraser's AAU Coach Gary Charles believes it could drag out to spring.'

I'll use what I've got for other schools and post alphabetically backwards from X (Xavierian) to A (All Hallows). The  Xaverian and White Plains profiles are first.

11/7/01 Ehova2k1: 'Two respected sopohomores from St. Raymond's, Gavin Grant and Brian Laing will improve the Ravens Varsity team inside play. Brian Laing is as strong as any player in his class, and Gavin Grant's jump shot is as good as Juluis Hodge. 11/7/01 Donnie Wilkie: 'I just wanted to alert you that Simon Gratz has withdrawn from the 2001 City of Palms Classic (Dec.18-22) in Fort Myers, Florida, due to its school system's insistence that it not fly. This leaves a spot wide open for a quality team to fly here from Philadelphia on Monday night, Dec. 17 -- you'd receive 18 airplane tickets, $1,500 for meals plus eight hotel rooms, all at our expense! Other participants include All Hallows, Xaverian, Tabor Academy (Mass.), Virginia Beach Salem (Va.), Raleigh Broughton (N.C.), New Orleans Abramson (La.), Missouri City Hightower (Texas), Los Angeles Westchester (Calif.), Oakland Tech (Calif.), Lakeland Kathleen (Fla.), Miami Christian (Fla.), St. Petersburg Lakewood (Fla.) and three Southwest Florida schools. Unfortunately, we can not take a New Jersey school, since they cannot play more than three games in a calendar week. Because of this, Pa., Del. and maybe D.C. appear to be the best options. Ten of Fox Sports' top 35 teams were part of our 16-team field in 2000, plus No. 1 NBA draft pick Kwame Brown. For more information, contact Donnie Wilkie at (941) 743-5889 immediately or email me at cityofpalms@yahoo.com, as these airplane tickets must either be accounted for or canceled by week's end. I know it's short notice, but it's also a trip to Florida in December -- enough said.'

11/6/01 Chris Ramirez: 'Hoopstown site is up and gives the top boys high school and college basketball news. Check out http://www.hoopstown.com. Lenny Cooke appears on the site. For more information contact info@hoopstown.com.'

11/5/01 Coach Ted Gustus: 'Not only is God blessing America, God blessed the first annual Hoops-4-Heroes Charity Basketball Game held at Hofstra University on Saturday, November 3, 2001. It was indeed an incredible and heartwarming event. Ted Gustus (Bishop Loughlin coach), Bob Maurer (Founder of Lupus Charity game) and Eric Hicks (President of Game Over, Inc.) decided to do the Hoops-4-Heroes Game three(3) weeks ago, we had no idea how successful it would be. There was love, unity, and a show of appreciation throughout the Hofstra University arena. Special thanks to the entire athletic community for getting involved in this event. I would like to personally thank Dr. John Ryan (Executive Director of PAL), and Bobby Dunn (PAL Supervisor) and their entire staff for their show of support before, during and after the game. The entire Hofstra University staff and security under the leadership of Mr. Larry Bloom was absolutely great! The fans from New York City and Long Island were terrific. The game was exciting and competitive, the half time performances were super, but to me the pre-game ceremonies were touching. To see the players introduced with their red, white and blue uniforms, as they ran through two lines of well dressed and talented cheerleaders from different schools was exciting. As the players unwrapped an enormous American flag, with the players, coaches, families holding it and waving it, while listening to singers sing: God Bless America, the National Anthem, prayers by religious leaders, and the police color guard did their thing, was heartwarming. Finally, when the announcer asked the spectators join hands to show unity and a moment of silent, you could hear a pin drop. Soloist Peggy Clemons, dressed in a stunning American flag outfit ripped the hearts out of people when she sang Wind Beneath My Wings, and What About the Children! Oh, by the way, close to 3,500 people witnessed an exciting game, NYC: 97 and Long Island: 95! GAME OVER!'

11/5/01 Glenn Bynes: 'Ricky Tyus who was a member of the South Brunswick HS boys basketball squad has made the Fairleigh Dickinson Varsity basketball team as a walk-on. Tyus was one of the top guards in Central Jersey as he played for a solid Viking team until graduating in 2000. Sometimes it pays to never give up.'

11/5/01 RivalHoops: Hoops For Heroes Event Recap.

11/5/01 Newsday:  Hoops for Heroes Charity Game Success.

11/5/01 NJO  East Side's Randy Foye headed to Villanova.

11/4/01 LOVE2REF4EVER: 'On a Saturday afternoon, on the campus of Hofstra University, the spirit of freedom filled the air. A benefit was held for the children of the heroes & victims of the WTC attack (Police,Fire & Port Authority Personnel & Victims) I was an alternate official on the game, and I was just happy to be there. From the opening ceremonies, which began with The Suffolk County Police Department Bag Pipers. The Thelma Hamilton JHS Smart Academy Lighting The Way Singers moved everyone to a rhythm and blues version of our National Anthem. There was also The NYCPD Color Guard and Marching Band. To top all of the opening ceremonies off, the players from both teams assembled around a huge flag of The United States Of America and began to wave it while the Central Islip Choir sang God Bless America. This had water coming from my eyes! The game started off slow and then picked up in the second half like everyone expected. In the second half, the Long Island team took an eighteen point lead, led by Amityville's Jason Fraser and St. Dominic's Tim Doyle. Then New York went to work, putting on a full court press that Long Island just couldn't break. Then off of a missed Long Island shot Curtis Sumpter received the ball on a fast break and electrified the entire gym with a monster jam that turned the momentum around. Led by Lincoln's Sebastian Telfair, who broke down the Long Island defense in the second half. This was truly a special event and the game lived up to the hype. Curtis Sumpter received the Most Valuable Player Award, and Jason Fraser went home with Sportsmanship honors. There were truly no losers on this day and Hoops 4 Heroes made sure of that!'

11/4/01 Peter Abraham (The Journal News, Westchester): 'Rashard Turner and Hilton Armstrong haven't committed to anybody. Peekskill coach Lou Panzanaro, who has day-to-day involvement in the recruiting process of bolth players, said on Saturday night that the rumors are false. Rashard is considering Maine, Central Florida and Monmouth. Hilton has a long list of schools led by LaSalle. Both players are feeling pressure to decide. But both, particularly the ever-improving Armstrong, would be wise to wait.'
