The article which features former PSAL players such as John Sanchéz, Newtown High School now coaching at Lehman College, Jonathan Rojas, Walton High School, Amil Hector, Hunter High School and Edgar Lugo, Taft High School focused on the community work that both its players and coaches are doing for the Bronx. It was a great article base on great people who care about the young student  athletes and students who care about the future of their community. 12/30/01 BajANtiguan: 'I have one question? How do you have Amityville ranked 12? This has to be a sign of disrespect. Ranking this team 6-10 in the metro area could of be considered an injustice but ranking them 12 is utter disbelief. National polls have them in the their top 50 nationwide yet, your poll doesn't give them the respect to be in the top preseason top 10. In the past I felt you ranked them low because of a weak non league schedule but now they have defeated defending PSAL A champ Grady (last year best city public school is taking a beating from the top LI schools), defending CHSAA champ St. Raymond's, Bishop Laughlin and its only lost is to what is considered a consensus top 10 in Dematha by 4 points. I myself graduated from this high school last year and outside of Fraser, I thought they had no one and I was aware that AJ Price was going to transfer but PG Richard Payton developed his play into a Street and Smith Honorable Mention and Price has been nothing short of spectacular. I can't see how you can justify a #12 ranking, please can you explain to me what I am not seeing.'

12/30/01 Rocky5615: 'Here are the high school ballers to watch that you should know about on Staten Island: 1. Kyle McAlerney Moore Catholic G Freshman,  2. 12/29/01 BRO: Hackensack, Teaneck face off .

12/29/01 JBDingle: 'Jim Kay Tournament at Hackensack -- It will be an all Bergen County final as host Hackensack will meet archrival Teaneck in Sunday's finals. In the opener, Hackensack overcame a 7 point halftime deficit to pull it out at the end. Brian Walker provided the spark with some key baskets as well as running the show as the Comets pulled ahead of Ferris in the final minutes.

In the nightcap, Teaneck overcame sloppy floor play and a multitude of missed layups to win 64-62 in OT over Bishop Francis Essex Catholic. The Highwaymen led by 5 at the half, as Bishop Francis Essex Catholic star Linton Hinds was beset with foul trouble. After picking up his fourth fould with a little under 7 to go minutes in regulation, Hinds, despite being shadowed by several Teaneck defenders, returned to lead a comeback that saw the Eagles go up by as much as 5 with a couple of minutes to go. The BFEC defense was also key as Teaneck committed several turnovers down the stretch. The Highwaymen surged back to tie it up behind key baskets by Keon Riggins and Tony Baxter. The extra session was equally exciting as BFEC had the ball down one with 8 seconds to go. Hinds got the inbounds pass and drove the hoop, looking to either score or draw the foul - he did neither and the rebound fell to Teaneck's Greg Ruffin with less than 1 second on the clock. Ruffin sank one of two free throws to make ita 2-point game. A few clutch baskets by Tony Baxter and the relentless board-crashing of all-state football player Tamba Hali were key for the Highwaymen.

The final is 6 pm on Sunday at Hackensack with 7th, 5th, and 3rd place consolation games preceeding.'

12/29/01 Herman Johnson: 'In the Championship game of the Delran Christmas Tournament in Delran, super sophomore Cedric Jackson had his 1st career triple double to help led Northern Burlington's 73-61 win over Riverside. It was NBC 1st Championship win in this tournament that started in 1984. Jackson finished with 15 points, 13 rebounds and 15 assists. It was a great all around performance for Jackson dubbed "The Entertainer" by his coach a former St. Anthony (Jersey City) & St. Patrick (Elizabeth) assistant, Herman Johnson. Many of his assists came off of double teams and penetration. Nick Nelson led NBC with 21 points including six 3 pointers. Freshman Anthony added 14 including 12 in the decisive fourth quarter. Riverside Mirek Babarr led all scorers with 32. Northern Burlington improved to 5-1 and play at Holy Cross next Thursday at 6:30pm.'

12/23/01 Brooklyn Scout: 'Two-time defending New York Class B champion Amityville (LI) overtook Grady (Brooklyn NY) with a fourth-quarter surge and beat the defending NYC public champions 72-68 at home Saturday night. Grady's Quincy Douby, the Hofstra signee coming off a record-breaking 63-point performance on Wednesday, scored all 15 of his team's points in the opening period which ended with the Falcons ahead 15-14. Douby, who ended with a game-high 31 points, got scoring help in the second quarter and Terrell Bethune's 10-footer from the right side with 13 seconds left gave Grady a 31-30 halftime margin.

Amityville took advantage of several Grady turnovers to move in front 38-33 early in the third before a pair of Douby threes started a 12-2 Grady run that ended with a left corner three by Kimani Blaize and a 45-40 Falcon lead with 1:32 left in the quarter. A.J. Price answered with a drive and a pair of free throws to help Amityville narrow the gap to 47-45 entering the final quarter.

Grady got a pair of driving shots from Douby to open its biggest lead at 53-46 with 7:09 left. Villanova-bound Jason Fraser then made his presence felt for Amityville, scoring 10 of his team-high 18 points in a span of 3:30 that gave the home team the lead for good at 63-62 with 3:32 remaining. Price, who finished with 17 points, hit 1-of-2 free throws to complete the decisive 13-3 Amityville run that made it 68-62 with 2:03 to go.

Trevor McIntosh (13 points) and Max Rose (11) also scored in double figures for Amityville while Blaize scored 11 and Malcolm Peterkin added 10 for Grady.'

12/23/01 Coach Bussey: 'I hope everyone in the city has noticed what Andre Cole is doing at Newtown this year. Twenty-two ppg and about 8 rpg. Andre has been mentioned before in the 5 boroughs, but this is his coming out season. Andre is only a junior. He has the potential to be one of the top ten seniors in the city next year. He is playing mostly in the post for Coach Torney's team this year. Andre and Bobby Pandy are two major reasons why Newtown has a 10-2 record. For additional info, contact me at JAPRCB@aol.com.'

12/22/01 Jojogunne: 'Amityville 72, Grady 68.  - A young and undersized Grady squad gave two-time state champs Amityville a run for the money tonight at Amityville's annual Fred Williams Tournament. Amityville won, 72-68, but not without a battle. Grady led with about five minutes to go, but unraveled with some defensive lapses and errant passes in the final minutes.

Amityville's starting five, led by Villanova signee Jason Fraser, is as good as they come. I wouldn't be surprised to see them win a third state championship. Jason also scored an "own goal" for Grady while attempting one of his patented one-handed rebounds.

Hofstra signee Quincy Douby, fresh off his 63-point performance against FDR, scored 31 points for Grady, including the team's first 19 points. Senior forward Malcolm Peterkin, junior point guard Kimani Blaize and freshman forward Derick Echols also impressed.'

12/22/01 Dwayne "Coach D" Murray: 'Mt. Vernon Knights X-Mas Tournament Results -- In the first game of the Mt. Vernon Knights X-Mas Tournament, a very well coached St. John Neumann of Philadelphia defeated Benjamin Banneker Academy of Brooklyn 79 - 55. After a 14 - 7 first quarter, Neumann went on a 16 - 2 run, and never looked back. The closest Banneker got was within 7 points in the 3rd quarter behind good pressure defense, and junior Gary Forbes' long distance shooting in the second half, but Neumann went on yet another run, sparked by point guard Richard Cunningham, and that was all she wrote. Neumann was paced by sharpshooting senior guard Chris DelBrocco's 25 points.

In the second game, the Mt. Vernon Knights defeated Samuel Gompers HS 73 - 64. The game started out like a defensive chess match, as both teams employed 3/4 court presses. Then, senior combo guard Will Cherry started to light it up from outside, hitting 3 three pointers and pacing the Knights in the first half with 16 points. Will Cherry and Jomo Belfor had 27 & 20 points respectively for Mt. Vernon, and Dwayne Thomas added 9 points. Gompers was lea by Stedford McLeod's 18 points, and Cecil Lewis' 17 points, 12 in the second half.

For the consolation game today, Gompers HS will take on Benjamin Banneker Academy at 5:30pm. Then for the championship, the Knights will face St. John Neumann of Philadelphia at 7:30 pm.'

12/21/01 Nathan Blue's Real Scout Hoop Summary (NYC) -- Amadou Fall and more.

12/21/01 BERASM: 'The Lions of FDA are now 8-0 overall( 6-0 in the division) after defeating Randolph on the road. Despite being down 38 to 29 at halftime, the Lions came out in the third with a different attitude and it started with defense . They outscored Randolph 30 to 12 ( allowing only 2pts in the fourth qtr). The Lions biggest play was a steal by Jahkeem Washington which put them up for good at 51-50. Sr. Tahan Engram did an outstanding job of keeping Allan Shepard off balance for game. He made him work for his 20pts. The final score was 59 -50. The Lions are heading down to Rock Hill,SC next week to defend their title at The Celriver Holiday Classic @ Winthrop University.'

12/20/01 Coach Jake Edward, Grady H.S: 'In todays game Quincy Douby out cored FDR H.S. 63-59. Quincy put on one of the best shooting performance ever witnessed. Quincy shot 18 for 21 from 3 point range. Coaches at the game say that was the best shooting exhibition ever saw on any level high school, college, or pro. He did it all in 3 quarters. Quincy finished with 63 points.'

12/20/01 BBALLCOUNTS: 'All I can say is the 6' 4" "do it all" Guard - Quincy Douby of Grady HS, Brooklyn, NY went 18 for 21 from deep 3 pt land (25, 30, 35, 40+ ft.) ... tonight. He had 63 points and only played 3 1/4 quarters. Scored 36 points in 10 min. in the second half. Even the FDR fans started cheering for Douby... Everytime he touched the rock the fans buzzed ... and when he pulled up you know it was going to drop... Almost every body in the building shock his hand at the conclusion of the game, as if to get the feeling of greatness. He was on fire like no other ball player I've ever seen at any level. Many of the college coaches in attendance all said the same thing, they've never seen anything like it ! 18 threes is incredible.. No maybe's.. all bottom. The beauty of it all was ... he didn't go nut and his team mates appreciated it and started dishin' the rock to him as if to say this is your night enjoy it ! Douby also showed a lot of class when he was subbed out in the beginning of the 4th, Quincy went to shake the FDR coaches hand and embraced the coach as if to say, No hard feelings.. I wasn't trying to show your team up.. I think the FDR coach really appreciated that gesture from Douby... as Douby ran off the FDR coach called him back and hugged him again... Great sportsmanship !

I never saw Grady coach Jack Ringel so happy for one of his players. I think the Grady ball club grew up tonight because they now have a leader that has earned the respect without being "Brash." They are very young but tonight made this team a unit Watch out PSAL...  And for those who don't know about Douby, this is no fluke, this kid can really shoot the rock... ask "Hubie Brown & anybody @ Five-Star" and all of the defenders who have tried to stop him. He gets numbers on everybody! Just hope that he is off when you face him because he can hit you from every angle and don't forget he will dunk on you and his handle is point guard quality. Hofstra got a steal ! He's really a prime time Big East , ACC competitor. There isn't a player in the last 20 years of NYC HS basketball that can shoot like Douby... None ! Grady 112 - FDR 59.  I think 18 - 3's might be a record for PSAL.'

12/20/01 Brooklyn Scout: 'Quincy Douby, a 6-3 guard at Grady HS in Brooklyn NY, connected on 18-of-21 three-point attempts and scored 63 points in three quarters Wednesday in the Falcons' 112-59 PSAL win over FDR. Douby, who signed with Hofstra during the early signing period and is considered one of the top pure shooters in the country, was covered with a box-and-one throughout and most of his shots were from NBA-range. Grady, the defending NYC public school champions, travels to face Amityville and Villanova-bound Jason Fraser on Saturday.'

12/19/01 k-boogie: 'Newark East Side 60 - Elizabeth 50.  Best I've seen Randy Foye distribute the ball - he really got his team involved in the offense. I kept telling those around me, watch David McSwain - when he became eligible, he was the missing 'other' option last year that led to NES taking the sectional. Good ball recognition by East Side team last night. Open shots all night for McSwain and he buried them & outmuscled underneath as well for his 25 points.

Guard play was HORRIBLE for Elizabeth - especially Bell and Louison. Bell must have been 1 for 8 from the arc. The key turn-around was with less than 2 minutes left EHS up by 5. Terrible shot and pass selection by the guards help NES to 5 point lead at half - and the cushion they needed to seal the game. Robinson was almost a non-factor due to the fact the guards weren't feeding him in 2nd half when he started to work the baseline (He kind of slept-walked through the 1st half). Truthfully, looked like only Ibrahim Jabbar (20 points) played with confidence - he kept EHS in the game with shot after shot & great defense. It was really hard to believe that Elizabeth was only down by 7 with the ball with a minute left. Felt like they were outplayed by 20 points in that 2nd half. But it was their first game - we'll see if the perimeter shooting improves and what effect big 6'8" Dorsainvil makes once they work him more effectively into the offense. More backcourt pressure, please!'

12/18/01 Herman Johnson: 'Super sophomore Cedric Jackson scored 27 points including 7 in overtime to propel Northern Burlington Regional High school to a 78-70 overtime victory over a tough and game Hamilton West. It was NB's first road win and helped NB get off to its best start in 22 years. Hamilton West who scouted NB on Saturday against Hammonton, was prepared from the onset for Jackson's onslaught. They came out in a box and 1 and doubleteamed Jackson all night. The game was tied at 35 at the half and at 63 at the end of regulation. Jackson's 9 points in the fourth rallied NB from a 5 point fourth quarter deficit. Nick "Bibby" Nelson added 13 including 3, 3 pointers. Joel Campbell chipped in with 11. G'town has 3 big time recruits (Duke, Fla. and Vandy) but not enough to handle the depth and experience of Molloy. Molloy will play Westbury Christian (TX) tonight for the championship. In the first round, Molloy routed Springarn (DC) by 25 points. NYC hoops fans, don't forget about Molloy. They will be there in mid-March to try for a NYC title. No this team isn't mentioned much by the 'experts' but that's OK. Keep talking about All Hallows, Rays, CTK and Loughlin while Molloy takes care of business. Remember, the seniors on this team went to a city final last year and won a JV title the previous year. The juniors on this team took a JV title last season. So overlook them if you will but Molloy will be a solid contender this year. Height is their biggest problem but so far hasn't cost them in the loss column. Molloy is 4-0 overall.'
