11/30/02 Coach Eric 'Rock' Eisenberg: 'Here is a little info on our 52 /37 loss to F.D.A. last night. At the half we led 29 to 27 and were playing very well against a real tough and well coached team. At the start of second half Coach Pat Mangan and his team made the necessary adjustments and my team and I did not. My hat goes off to Pat and his team for coming to play in the Grady/Tilden Coaches Appreciation Classic and they have an open invitation to come back every year.It is really nice to get a chance to compete against a first class team coached by a true gentleman who has great student /athletes who are a credit to the P. S. A. L.

I would also like to thank coach Jack Ringel of Grady High School for having the great idea to honor some of the great former coaches and referees who have worked with and helped so many of our student/athletes and coaches over the years. The honorees were Nick Gaetani, Leroy Hendricks, Jeff Bieder (South Shore), Artie Leitner  (Midwood), Ron Vernon (New Utrecht) and Ira Levine (Lafayette)..All these men were a credit to our game and our world.'

11/28/02 Newsday: Tyshawn Bierria Takes Seat & Bow for Newtown.

11/28/02 Coach Christopher DeSarno: 'Just a reminder that the Stanner Classic will be held at Archbishop Molloy on this Saturday and Sunday. The field includes Molloy, Kellenberg, LaSalle, and I think Holy Trinty (not sure).  Molloy has looked very good this preseason, destroying both FDA and Cardoza in scrimmages. With Marlon Smith (looking real good) and Sundiata Gaines in the backcourt this season looks promising for the Stanners.'

11/28/02 Tim Masterson: Rice's Keydren Clark is already making a huge impact at Saint Peter's College, scoring 48 and 44 points in back-to-back games.

11/28/02 Coach Eric 'Rock' Eisenberg: 'Last night the Tilden Blue Devils won the New Utrecht Thanksgiving Classic with a hard fought 69  - 61 victory over a rough and tough young New Utrecht team. Coach John Sce had his Utes ready to play and it took a super performance fron Andre (Barkley )King 37 pts 24 rebs 5 blocks and 4 charges drawn,17 pts and 8 assists from Nathaniel Sudlow, 10 pts and great leadership from Capt. John King, 8 points and 10 assists from Joey Baptiste and a great job off the bench from Jerry Gold, Classic M.V.P. Brendon Luckain who added 8 pts and 5 assists and 3 steals. In the first half  Delphinaud Jean Pierre did a great defesive job on New Utrecht's big man and helped get him in foul trouble.'

11/27/02 NY Post: Curtis Star Hungry for PSAL Title -- Damian McCaig.

11/27/02 mikesplayground: 'Check out Samuel Jenkins at Murry Bergtraum.  This kid is probably the "Best Kept Secret" in the PSAL today. I believe he is the best shooter out today. I saw with my own eyes, this kid light up 21 points in a scrimmage, in the first quarter against Telecommunication. Currently, he is averaging 28 pts on the PSAL website, leading his team 4-0  He is willing to take on any challenge against any player in the league. He told me personally that his goal this year is to lead his team to the Garden, going past Forbes (Bannaker), Smith (Urban Peace) and Telfair (Lincoln). He played in Eastern Inviational Top 100 camp. The first game he played, he scored 19pts, 9 rebs, 6 steals in 16 minutes of play. He has schools lookin at him, but he isnt sure on where he wants to commit himself next year. The reason for this suggestion, is that I dont think Sam is getting the publicity he should. Check him out, you wont regret it. Check his stats and schedule out on www.PSAL.org.

As you may know, Diego was Queens Player of the Year last year, straight out of Bryant High School in Astoria. I got to meet up with him again this past saturday at the Exodus fundraiser at Riverbank. He is definitely an example of what hard work can do. Diego has really bulked up and his leaping ability has increased, he was doing reverse dunks on the layup line and really looks in control of his game. A lot of people have forgotten about him, but he will be a top Division 1 prospect soon. Oh yeah, his first official game for George Junior Republic is December 1st in Akron, Ohio vs some school named St. Vincent - St. Mary and he will be matched up with some guy named Lebron James. I know that those to teams are not powerhouses but it is important for a new coach to get some early confidence builders for his team.6'4' Euland Williams and 5'10'' pg Andersen Labase are leading the way for the "Shore"

This is an update on Tilden combo guard Nathaniel Sudlow.  This super athletic 6'1'' high quality young man has been offered by Coach Max Goode and Bryant College.Nate really liked his visit to Bryant and was impressed by their players and coaches and how hard the team worked. He and his mother will make an unofficial visit to Bryant next weekkend to check out the campus life at this top five Buisness school. Nate is a D1 player for sure but the mix of a great Coach in Max Goode, a top young asst. Brent Cooke and a great education may tip the scales in Bryant's favor if some of the Patriot League coaches around the area do not get more involved with "Nate".

11/14/02 Coach: Rudy King (St. Vincent Bulldogs - Brooklyn, NY) The summer of 2002 was a rough experience for me as a coach, clinic organizer, league organizer, business partner and friend. Though we won 90% of our games, the players I coached matured, the clinic and league were quite successful I almost retired from coaching and organizing after a life threatening illness and spending a week in the hospital. Stressed and laying on my deathbed, my life thoughts racing through my mind, this young brother who could be mistaken for a "homeless person" because of his appearance walked in, He looked familiar but I couldn't pinpoint who he was. He said, "coach I heard you were sick and I just wanted to say thanks for helping me when everyone turned their back on me." As he spoke I realized this was a kid I coached 12 years ago in Harlem for a weekend league. As he spoke, he said excuse me for being so dirty, I'm just coming from work and just had to get here and say thanks. Everyone was talking about how sick you were and I didn't want to miss the chance. God sent that kid to give me the power I needed to recover. I was told that I had to change my life or the next time I may not be as fortunate. I had to change my diet, get in shape, pick and choose my mental battles and put myself in an environment that was less stressful. So I made the decision to let it all go and start all over.   In search of a coaching experience that would bring me back to reality, I took over the 12/u basketball program @ St. Vincent's Ferrer in Brooklyn. It was then in one of my most humble moments in my life that I realized how fortunate I was to be alive and having the opportunity to pass on the legacy of the great coaches that I was blessed to play for as a youth (Mr. "B" - LBH, Gil Reynolds - VanGuard & Laurinburg, and Dave McCollin - Gauchos). My point is you never know when your time to meet the Maker is coming so it's imperative to stay true to yourself and be the best that you can be everyday with your student athletes. Choosing to coach is sacred, we mold lives and we are special people in our unique but united ways. Stay true to the game!

11/13/02 Ardist (Butch) Brown: 'On November 3, 2002, at Hofstra University, basketball fans came out to pay homage to the victims of The World Trade Center attack. From the time you approached the gymnasium, you knew that there was something special happening on this day. As you approached the main entrance to the building there were colorful funny cars on display for your viewing pleasure, and the New York Knicks mobile truck was handing out neat gifts to everyone. As you entered the lobby, the first thing you came across was all the beautiful merchandise for sale by the great people at Game Over. There were two games on this day, and the first one was the women's game. (they don't like to be called girls) The women's game was added to this years event, and it was a dandy. The Long Island women led the entire game, then in the second half New York City came back and won the game. The boys game (they don't mind you calling them boys) was led by Long Island most of the entire game. Then with about 5 minutes left in the contest New York City made a run, but fell short at the end. There was some serious chanting going on in the stands between the fans of Long Island and the fans from New York, this helped make the games more exciting. I brought my wife and a friend along to the game with me this year, and they especially enjoyed the women's game. Look's like this will become an annual event in my home, and I am already looking forward to next year's event. These were excellent games for an excellent cause! Everyone who had anything to do with this event needs to be applauded, and I would like to give a special thanks to Ted Gustus for having me back this year.'

11/12/02 Coach Eric 'Rock' Eisenberg: ' I wanted to take this time to tell you and our "Basketball Family" about a moving experience my team and I had today. After practice I told our Team that we were going on a "mystery ride". We got in the van and away we went. Our destination was "Ground Zero." On the way there the CD's were playing and the jokes were flying. Once we came through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel and drove towards our destination the players got quiet and I guess they figured out where we was going.

When we got out of the van and the car of one of my former players, Haslyn Cozier, you could have heard a pin drop. All of us just stared at the site where so many great people lost their lives and where so many of our fellow Americans became true heroes. Each one of us dealt with the sights and sounds around us in a different way, but there was one common question we all asked, Why?

One of our players said "So much hate, I cannot believe it could happen to us."

I asked our guys to think about what their generation could do better than mine so that something like this sad event never happens again anywhere in our World! At some point I am going to ask each player to write a short reaction to what they saw and felt today on Veterans Day at "Ground Zero"

For me, it was a chance to share my love for our country with some young people who I love very much and who will one day be the leaders of our Country.'
