This game was one of the best I've been a part of in a while, and we pulled out the 5-point victory, 40-35. Billy Butler was huge hitting 8-9 free throws in the 2nd half and 6-6 down the stretch. He finished with a game-high 19. Trinity Fields added 11 and Quincy Hankins had 10. Sharp shooting 8th grader Jimmy Burke led the Hotshots with 17. Despite not putting up huge scoring numbers in the 2nd game, Quincy played great. He recorded a key steal in the closing seconds that put the game away. Key contributions also came from Shahab Syed and James Southerland who were big on the boards. We take on St. Pats of Westchester on Saturday at 9AM. We got off to an inspired start leading by as many as 18pts, before the Family closed out the half down 10pts. The second half was nip and tuck most of the way before the Family wore us down by playing a full court press the entire way. Rob Russell led the Family with 17pts. The front line of David Halloway, Victor Caputo and Jerrel McKie combined for 48 pts in the losing effort. The other half of the T.K. Roster faired much better out at IS8, defeating the Skyriders 109-95, in the high scoring season opener. Johnny Barnes & Justin Davis both turned in double, doubles for T.K.

6/21/05 Stephen Johnston: 'It is official, Samardo "the Sarge" Samuels will be attending St. Benedict's Prep next fall.  I would like to make it clear that this should not reflect negatively on Our Savior New American School.   Samardo had a great experience this year and the environment at Our Savior was a big reason for that.  This was a personal/family decision.  I would like to thank Pastor/Coach Ron Stelser, Emily Stelser, the Semple family and the rest of the faculty for helping to support Samardo this year.  They were great!  I would also like to thank Lawrence McGuggins (Ahead of The Game) for initiating the opportunity at Our Savior. I expect Our Savior to have continued success and I look forward to Samardo being a part of the program at St. Benedict's Prep for the next three years.'

6/20/05  Coach Steven Hicks, Martin Luther HS, Queens: 'The new IPPSAL A League was finalized this week with Our Saviour Lutheran, Bronx, Lawrence Woodmere, Long Island Lutheran and Upper Room being the teams for next year. The league will grow in 2006-2007, but this should be a super league next year. Our Saviour has rebuilt their program, their coach is good, and Upper Room has done the same. Lawrence Woodmere is always good, and LI Lutheran is down, but have finally decided to build their program again from the bottom up and has some nice talent coming.'

6/20/05 Roberto Diaz, NYC Finest - 'On Saturday, our day started out at Almighty Force 15u Summer Classic at Ajax Park (142 Street & 116 Avenue, Jamaica), where are 15u defending champs came up with the 38-25 win vs Park Flava.  Tyshawn Good led the way with 10 pts & 4 steals, while Presano Bell chipped in 10 rebounds and 5 blocks for the 2-0 15u squad, which was coached by Frank Brown.  Our 16u went into action in the opening day at Nike Swoosh, Queens, where they faced the Jamaica PAL and came up with a 52-41 win.  Akeem Brightman led the way with a strong performance of 19 pts, 4 rebounds & 4 assists.  Michael Bruce and Tyshawn Good added 8 pts each to seal the win.  We lost our closing day game at Almighty Force Junior division (16u) against Team Underrated (Grey).'

6/20/05 Rodrick C. Bussey, Brooklyn-Queens Warriors (Scholars Through Sports Foundation): 'This past weekend, the Brooklyn-Queens Warriors traveled to Scranton, PA to compete in the Hoop City USA Classic. We won 2 and lost 1.  Chris Richards (F. K. Lane), Robert Gutierrez (John Adams), Michael Dziewit (Wadleigh), Dominik Goj (Bronx Science), Duran Velasquez (Forest Hills), Reslyn Lassegue (Lincoln), Przemek Kudla (St. John Prep) and Idiris Alaka (Park West) played solid throughout the 3 games. We will hopefully be playing in the Africa Park Classic and  at I.S. 8  during the summer.'

6/20/05 Coach Dre', Team Underrated:  Team Underrated 13-under team won the Summer Slam 2005 in Brooklyn over the weekend.  The team was comprised of only 7 players, Saheem King, Troy Cherry, Mile Pendergrast, Chris Calixte, Sean Reid, RJ Hall, and Marcus Charlton.  1st game we beat Gauchos  46-19 (Gauchos was missing key starters), 2nd game we were defeated by NY Skyriders, 3rd game we beat Brooklyn All-Stars, and the championship we avenged a loss to NY Skyriders by beating them 61-42.  A job well done to a team that is still work in progress.  That makes 4 championships by Team Underrated over the last month. In Almighty Force Team Underrated 17-under (Silver) team beat a very good NYC Finest to complete a perfect regular season at 7-0.  Congratulations goes out to Cody Lapp, Maurice Charlton, Chris Barber, Cameron Barber, Thomas Losito, Dave McKeithan, Emmanuel Degraffe, Jamal lining, Maurice Dickerson, and Stanley Calixte.'

6/20/05 Coach Rock Eisenberg: 'Our team and I just got back from a terrific weekend camp at Villanova University where Coach Jay Wright and his First class staff ran a super team camp full of instruction in all areas of the game and gave all the campers the benefit of a great "Life Skills" lesson from former Villanova and NBA star "Easy" Ed Pinkney. It was really nice to see our fine young players gain confidence and knowledge from "Nova's" staff and players in a beautiful calm setting on their beautiful campus. 6'6 " freshman Rito Joseph was our MVP and 6'9" soph Alanzo George was our hardest worker. Soph point guard Javon Jackman was outstanding as was 6' 4'' wing Fred Antoine and 6' 5'' wing Lujens Menard. My hard working assistants John Harris and Howard Hughes did a great job of motivating our players all weekend. They where joined by a man who I consider the finest person and coach I have ever met, Canadian legend, Richie "RJ" Spears. Richie will spend the summer in New York helping my staff and me prepare our players for next year. All I can say is I cannot wait to see the difference in our guys when we play in the PSAL next season.'

6/20/05 Coach Kenny Pretlow: 'On Sunday the Metro Hawks 16's improved to 2 - 0 in the hoops in the Sun tourney at Orchard Beach by defeating New Realty 53 - 31. MoMo Jones, Christian Morris & Chris Abney led the way with 10 each. After that game they opened up in the Rucker tournament with a come from behind 47 - 43 win over the Rockland Rockets. The Hawks started out slow falling behind 13 -2 and trailing by five with 2 minutes to go. MoMo hit all 14 of his points in the 2nd half to spearhead the comeback. He also added 6 boards, 3 assts,  3 steals. He was aided by Roland Davis 9pts 4 assts and Terrence Howard with 6 pts, 8 rebs and six big steals, two of which came with under a minute to go. Next up is Nike Swoosh Thursday at Milbank.'

6/20/05 John McEntee: 'Westchester Hawks-McEntee 14U -- In only their second tourney as a team they reached the semi finals of the LIL Invitational. The Hawks finished 3-0 in their pool before losing to a strong Rising Star team by 7 in the semi's. Strong contributions from Devan Jenkins, Dan Blumberg, Pat McEntee, Leon Longmore and Vance Callahan. The future for this team is bright.  Next up BSC Invitational and Hardwood Classic.

6/20/05 Coach Jason Maragh:  I would like to congratulate the Lightning -Maragh 16U team that went to the finals at the Slamfest III tournament at Drew University last weekend. We went 2-1. We beat Hunterdon Rage, Jersey Shore KBR Kings, and lost by 2 in 4 OT to Garden State Sharp Shooters.  We advanced to the finals but came up short to  the Manhasset All Stars.  I thank Edmond "Scoty" McCray (Lawrence Woodmere Academy), Brandon Smith (Bayside), Chris Lemoines (Bayside), Johnathan Appel (West Hempstead), William Sutherland (Bishop Loughlin), William Lopez (Island Trees), Tom Dowling (Southside)  for a wonderful tournament, great dedication  and a wonderful season.'

6/19/05 With under a half minute to play and down by one St Benedict was forced to foul St Patrick players three times to stop the clock. But on the third in-bound play the ball went over Corey Fisher's head and into the backcourt where David Cubillan picked it up to score the game winning layup, 43-42 for the And1 championship victory. Cubillan did most of the ball handling for St Benedict today while backsourt mate Eugene Harvey concentrated on guarding Fisher, who had mediocre results in both the semifinal and final games. St Pats is so deep Fisher gets plenty of help from Ruben Guillandeaux, Daquan Cook and Yves Mbala. But he got no help from the Celtics' other star, Derrick Caracter, who for the second weekend in a row was a no show. Meanwhile, St Benedict is still relying on forward 6-7 senior forward Lance Thomas in crunch time, but Lance got big help inside from 6-8 sophomore, Samardo Samuels, who was supposedly attending Our Savior New American just last week. Samardo was one of three roster surprises at And1 this weekend. Mike Galarce moving from Irvington to Shabazz was the second and Our Savior Lutheran had LaSalle's Austin Wallace teaming in the frontcourt with Justin Burrell and Nick Murphy.

OSL beat Grady in the morning quarterfinals but lost 55-44 to St Benedict in the semis. That game was much closer than the final score indicates. In it 5-5 sophomore Ivy Fisher, Corey's younger brother did a poised job distributing the ball to his teammates and hitting the open shot. He'll get plenty of those with a frontcourt of Wallace, high riser Nick Murphy and 6-9 center, Justin Burrell. 'Rising senior' is such a cliche that I can't bring myself to use it, even for Burrell, but if anyone ever deserved it, he sure does. He's had two weekends going up against top rate competition and dominating in the paint. It will be interesting to see in the coming weeks which college programs recognize that and step up their efforts the quickest.

In the other semi St Patrick trailed Paterson Catholic 26-20 at the half but eked out a 50-49, That had to hurt Pat Cat as they had made the semis by taking St Anthony in the quarterfinal. With the Williams twins, Kimani Barrett and Nicodemus Eaton now seniors it's now or never for coach Tommy Patterson's Cougars to get past St Ant's and St Pat's in New Jersey North's Parochial B division.

He chose Longwood over Stony Brook, Siena and Delaware. The news comes on the heels of Kirk's outstanding performance at this weekends Rumble in the Bronx. Kirk averaged 24 ppg to go along with 9 rpg and single handly outplayed the likes of Will Harris (NY Elite). Kirk went for 35 to Will's 21 in a tough loss Saturday to get into the playoffs. Kirk also went for 27 against the Texas Ambassadors in a thrilling victory Saturday morning. Congrats to a great kid, who proved to everybody that he could play at the D1 level. 6/14/05 Metro Hoops Junior All Star camp recaps for 5th through eighth grades.

6/14/05 Jim Hart: 'Thanks to all the teams, coaches, players and fans for making this years Rumble a great event. Despite the crazy heat and no AC everyone involved kept their cool. Next week Fordham is installing AC in all their gyms. (Thank God). Congratulations to the GC Ballers, City Rocks, and NY Panthers on their championships. Thanks to all the media who covered the event. Last a special thanks to my hard working partners and volunteers Chris Oden, Terry Brewin, Bernett Marion, Pete Sheehan, Ralph Tucker, Kofi and the Crown Legends and my better half, Lena Hart. See you all next year.'

6/14/05 Antonio Cannon Sr: ' The T.K. Allstars were defeated in the championship game  66-58 @ the Elmcor Spring Madness Classic last night.  T.K. got off to a great start building a 10pt. lead early in the first quarter. The early lead was short lived as the opposition perimeter game got going, giving them a 35-30 half time lead.  T.K. erased the five point lead at the beginning of the third quarter, and the game was nip and tuck for the balance of the third quarter. Justin Davis 14 pts, Johnny Barnes 17 pts, Tony Dennison 12 pts. kept the game close for T.K. in defeat.  Good job by William Mayers and his staff putting together a nicely run competition.'

6/14/05 Jim Hart: 'I too have had the unfortunate experience of having to deal with RCA and Rev. Ma$$ey. It is the same MO. They offer a scholarship, put kids through unbearable circumstances and when they leave demand 5000-7000 for their transcripts to be forwarded. The sad thing is the NYS Ed department has no jurisdiction over them. I think the school makes more money when a good player decides to leave.'

6/14/05  Nathan Blue: 'If you need to be seen Real Scout All-American Camp 2005 will be held at Fordham University July 30th and July 31st. The NCAA has certified this Camp and there is expected 300 plus Division 1, 2, 3 and junior college coaches in attendance. The Fee is $50 per participant. To find out how to be seen email: Amanda Verdon at tverdon@msn.com. Real Scout All-American Camp 2005 Web site will be up and running next week. But don't wait spots will fill up quickly.'

6/14/05 Abdu Torrence: 'On Sunday, June 12,  LIL Dingle continued the playoffs at the Md. invitational.  The quarterfinals really tested how well LIL Dingle would play on Championship Sunday. Facing a tough Ohio Showstoppers/CBC team that is pretty well put together and plays disciplined basketball Dingle raced out to a ten point lead with Miles Davis and Manny Brown leading the charge. In the second half the lock down defense of Severio Ford and Jamel Torrence slowed Gator down. Dingle pretty much had the game under control. Dingle 55 Manny Brown 14 pts 14 reb, M. Davis 18 pts 10 reb K. Anderson 10 pts 10 asst. Cleveland Basketball 36 #1 in district and #13 in nation Tyriek Gator 11pts.'

6/14/05 Rob Moses, coach Queens Blackhawks Basketball: 'On Saturday at Almighty Force Basketball Classic, our 16u team played the Brooklyn Panthers and came up with a big win 70-22. 6/14/05 NY Post: No 'superdivision' change in the PSAL.

6/14/05 Paul Suber: 'The Metro Hoops hosted the Junior All-Star Camp this weekend in South Brunswick, N.J. The camp featured some of the best young talent in the 6th, 7th and 8th grade that New York and New Jersey has to offer. There were representatives from Team Roc, Jersey Shore, Team Jersey Elite, Unique, Team Next, Playaz, Trenton, Newark and a number of other organizations. The camp had stations where they really taught skills and basketball mentality and competitiveness. They worked the kids really hard and had a number of excellent teacher/coaches on staff. When it came to game-play the teams were split up into grade-groups and were evenly matched up. There were some great match-ups individually as well as team match-ups in every grade. The games were competitive and fun to watch from a coaches and a fans prospective. The lectures were right on the money, dealing with a host of subjects from academics to personal conduct and the speakers consisted of former college and high school players, counselors and A.A.U. coaches including me. It was a fun weekend and a way to get back to the basics for us and a number of other teams and coaches. I would like to personally thank Galen Smith, Mike Melton and the whole Metro Hoops' staff for putting on a great weekend of basketball and learning experience for my kids as well as all the kids, parents counselors and coaches involved.  Keep up the hard work because it's the kids that always benefit.'

6/13/05 Coaches Gary Charles, Rob Rizzo, Bobby Rahn and Kenny Pretlow on the Rumble in the Bronx, 2005 page.

6/13/05  Roberto Diaz, NYC Finest - 'Former Campus Magnet HS point guard Haron Hargrave signed a letter of intent two weeks ago to attend Sacramento State University in the Big Sky Conference.  Haron led Chaffey Community College to the Elite 8 in the Foothill Conference, Southern California while averaging team high 15.7 ppg and 5.3 apg, and he also led the conference in assists.'

6/13/05 Roberto Diaz, NYC Finest - 'On Saturday at the Almighty Force Classic, our 17u squad took on Team Underrated (White) and came out with a 69-43 win. Akeem Brightman led the way with 20 pts, while Michael Bruce added 18 pts. Rodney Lewis chipped in another 14 pts for the 4-1 overall record.  Our 15 and defending champs, took their opening game at Almighty Force Summer Classic. Isiah Lee led the way with 14 pts, while Ellison Thomas and D'Andre Rollins chipped in 10 pts each.'

6/13/05  John McEntee: 'Westchester Hawks-17U-The Hawks traveled to Boston this weekend for the annual BABC Hoopfest. Among some strong competition from Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, RI and Mass the Hawks were able to go 5-0 and bring home the championship. The championship game against the Boston Titans was a clinic with the Hawks saving their best game for last and winning by 25 pts. With only 7 players everyone contributed on both sides of the floor. Rasheem Jenkins, Geddes Robinson, Bram Nivar, JR McEntee, Rick Varnell, Carlton Mitchell and Damian Longmore.  Next up is the Summer Hardwood Classic, Playaz Ball and WV Jam Fest.'

6/13/05  Coach Torrel Harris: 'I want to congratulate the Metro Hoops organization for putting on a great, exposure and evaluation camp  this past weekend ( June 11& 12 , 2005 ). The camp was well organized. The competition was very strong in the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade and the players played five games in two days in a beautiful facility. Then the coaches picked the best players from those games from each grade to form the All-Star teams. The training by the coaches on staff was excellent each morning. For one hour and half it was station drills and the guests speaking on hand each day was good. The All-Star game was very competitive and strong. The slam dunk, and three point contest was also strong.  All my players who attended was impressed how competitive the camp was and they came away learning a lot. The camp had players from Unique All-Stars, Team Next, New Jersey Elite, Team Roc, NJ Playaz, Trenton Hurricane, Philadelphia, Pa,  Washington DC  and more. There were over 80 players who attended  and they came with their "A"  games.'

6/13/05 Antonio Cannon Sr: 'The T.K. Allstars defeated Brooklyn Express at the West 4th Street 19u H.S. competition 77-66 over the weekend.  Tyshawn Bierria led T.K. with 17pts, Justin Davis chipeed in 14pts.  Shamark Limehouse led Brooklyn Express with 17pts. in defeat.  The T.K. Allstar 17u team will play Team Odom for the Elmcor Spring Madness championship today @ 7:30pm.  The championship game will be played @ the Louis Armstrong Center is located at 108th St. & Northern Blvd, Queens, NY.'

6/13/05 Coach Kenny Pretlow: 'The Metro Hawks 16's opened up play in the Hoops in the Sun at Orchard Beach with a 48 -30 win over the Dragons. Roland Davis led the way with 10 pts Christian Morris 9 pts & Chris Abney 8 pts.'

6/13/05 Coach Sly Johnson: ' The Manhasset ALLSTARS 16.U team took the Championship (4-0) in the Garden State Slamfest III at Drew University this weekend. The play of Jamel Rahiem, James Galanos, Maalik Oliver, Roberto Lyons, Chris Vega, Taliek Vasquez, and Jason Philippe was excellent. Congrats to our 17.U team that was 3-1 for the weekend. Special thanks to our Coaches, Irby, Eddins and Henry for a  job well done. Next up: Nike Swoosh (16.U) and, IS8 (17.U).'

6/13/05 Reggie Murray, Brooklyn Rams Deputy Director: 'We had a successful weekend at the Boys Club of New York Tournament in both divisions. Our 16-under and 18-under squads won games over both Shooting Stars teams.  In the 16-under division, the Rams beat the Shooting Stars 60-51.   Che Gonzales (who like last week threw down another monstrous dunk) and Josh Dupuy both finished with team highs of 14 points.  Luis Charles added 13 points in the win.  In the 18-under division, the Rams beat the Shooting Stars' older squad 59-30. The game was called due to rain with about 6 minutes left in the 4th quarter.  Angelo Laroche finished with a game-high 16 points, and Keron Wray (in his first game with the Rams) had 15 points.  Angelo & Keron will definitely be a force in the PSAL since they both play for Grady.  I want to personally thank Coach Akeem Tucker who is coaching both of the Brooklyn Rams teams in the Boys Club of New York tournament.  What makes Coach Akeem Tucker truly blessed is that at only 19 years old, and a player who won numerous championships with the Rams, he's enjoying his first coaching stint with a team he's been playing for since he was 14 years old.  And after winning two PSAL Championships with the Lincoln Railsplitters just two years ago in 2002 & 2003, Coach Akeem Tucker has the winning attitude and the respect from the players to become one of the youngest, brightest coaches on the AAU scene. So far, Coach Akeem Tucker is 3-1.  He is a shining example of the young men that have come through the Brooklyn Rams/S.O.N. Youth Partnership mentoring programs. We wish him the best in his coaching career.'

6/12/05 The region's 17's have two teams in the 17's semis at the Rumble - the Panthers are playing the GC Ballers and Juice is playing La. Select. The 16's semis are an out of region affair with Utah playing Team Texas and Philly MJC against the City Rocks. Meanwhile the 15's final will match Team Next with the New York Panthers. In the semis TN edged a talented Team Texas group 51-50 while the Panthers took the New Hampshire Playaz 66-52. Lance Stephenson is leading the Panthers while Erving Walker, Lenny McNeil. Ashton Gibbs and Vincent Rogers are starring for Team Next.

John P Miciotta's Saturday recap and more is on the Rumble in the Brons, 2005 page.

6/12/05 USA Youth Development Festival.

6/12/05 Abdu Torrence: 'LI Lightning Dingle 11's are competing in the Maryland Invitational which has 26 teams in the 11U division and over 150 teams in all from 9U to 14U. Top 2 teams from each pool make the playoffs and with sixteen teams advancing. The Dingle team went 2-0 in pool play with a 42 point rout of the Maryland Crusaders 62-20 who came in fourth in their district tournament Miles Davis leading the way 23 points 11 rebounds, Kyle Anderson 10 points 12 assists, and Emmauel Brown 18 points 15 rebounds.

Next up we played Philly's Finest who snatched the gold medal in the Mid Atlantic division. It was a tough game with two of their players carrying most of the load. PF has a 6'2 big man (his nickname is 2way) who could arguably be the best center and player in Philly. He runs like a gazelle keeps the ball high and has a soft touch. The Dingle Team prevailed 65-39.  Miles Davis led the team with 26 points 12 boards, Emmanuel Brown 19 points 11 rebounds 3 blocks, Kyle Anderson handed out 11 assists and snatched 4 steals, Daniel Dingle played an important role boxing out Philly Finest's big man.

In the round of sixteen LI Dingle faced the Diamond State Kings who placed second in the Mid Atlantic Regional at the half the score was 19-12 but it seemed like it was tied for the whole half. The Kings are a talented and scrappy team. In second half Dingle went on a 14-2 run which opened the lead to 19 and never looked back. As adjustments were made Dingle took advantage of their size and went to the block to post up the Kings guards. As the three headed monster for the Dingle team (Brown, Davis and Anderson) struggled scoring the first half was carried on by Myron Hickman, Nkerewum Okoro, Severio Ford, and Ryan Frankel. Dingle prevailed 68-28. This game was a team effort exemplified what great team are made of. It gave our team a look at how deep you have to be to win against good teams. On Sunday @ 1245 we face a very good Cleveland Basketball Club.'

6/12/05 Coach Rock Eisenberg: 'I wanted to take this chance to thank Tom Pecora and the entire Hofstra "Basketball Family" for inviting us to a great weekend hoops camp. Our players learned many lessons on and off the court from this super experience. I know our young players will learn and grow as they see what it takes to be a true student/athlete on the high school and college level.'

6/12/05 Coach Kenny Pretlow: 'The Metro Hawks 16's competed in the Rumble in the Bronx and finished 2 -1 in pool play and advanced to a play in game for the playoffs. The 1st game was versus the South Jersey Rising Stars and without 6 players due to team camp we fell 83-69. Christian Morris stood tall with 21pts, 19 rebs, Marcus Matthews 11pts, Terrence Howard 10pts, 8 rebs. With the whole team intact for the next game we defeated the Ravens/New Heights 79 - 67. Rocco Rubino led with 16pts (3 threes) Christian went double dipping 16pts, 19 rebs, Roland Davis 13pts Trinity Fields 12pts, 8 assts and  MoMo Jones added 10. The Hawks last game was versus Balitmore Stars and we needed a 15 pt win to advance. We got it with room to spare with a 89 -56 rout. Rocco remained as hot as the gym was with 18 pts (3 more threes), Christian added another double double of 12 pts, 12 rebs, Marcus 13 pts and MoMo 12 pts. We play the Rhode Island Hawks in the play in game.'

Jonathan Ewards is the Rising Stars 6-8 center now at Burlington Life Center.

Corey Francisco is a 6'3 Bishop Ahr wing playing for the Central Jersey Hawks,

Ed Keyes, the 6-8 Atlantic City senior is playing for the Playaz.

Lincoln's 6-9 junior Brandon Walters is playing for Juice, naturally.

6/10/05 Coach Dre', Team Underrated: I just concluded Team Underrated first Annual Spring Tournament consisting of 13-u & 14-u boy's teams. I would like to thank all participating organizations for supporting my league, Manhasset All-Stars, Renaissance, TOP, UNAYO, IBI Warriors, Middle Country Magic, Positive Direction, Push The Rock, Deer Park All-Stars, WYC All-Stars, and Team Underrated Last night championship game matched up Manhasset All-Stars 13u vs. TOP 13u in which Manhasset All-Stars won 49-38 behind 20 points from George Bailey while Levon Turner led TOP with 12 points. A special thanks goes out to Sly Johnson, Coach Greene and their staffs for being part of my first basketball tournament.

In the second game Team Underrated took on a very tall TOP 14-under team for the championship. Team Underrated went through a lot of adversity and obstacles before they started to play as a team. They took their bumps along the road by being blown out numerous times during this AAU season. It is a good feeling for them to finally win against a very good team in a big game 39-31. Team Underrated was led by a balanced attack from all players on the roster. Wayne Booker 6 pts. 11 rebounds and 2 blocks, Thomas Beverly 8 points 4 rebounds and 2 assist, Quincy Watts., Kendall Harris 4 points and 8 rebounds, Anthony Potter 7 points, Lamar Bridges 5 points, Troy Hendrickson had 4 assist and Troy Dargan had 5 rebounds. A job well done!

Note: Team Underrated won 3 Championships in the last week.

6/7/05 Coach Paul Suber: 'The Team Next 7th grade team won the "Team Next A.A.U Basketball Classic" in Westbury L.I. over the weekend. In the 14's The Gaucho's beat Team New Jersey and the 16's Skyriders won on forfeit over Bingo AllStars. We beat "Youth Interlock Society (the top 7th grade team in Philadelphia) twice. In the 1st game we were led in scoring by Davontay Grace and DaShaun Wiggins with 22 pts a piece, Aaron Brown chipped in 17pts and 9 assists towards 68-47 win. The second game was a classic "Philly vs. NY" dog fight with Team Next winning (49-42). We were led in scoring by Davontay Grace 15pts, JayVaughn Pinkston 13pts, Joey Imuzai 11pts, in this very slow paced semi-finals war. Our second game of the tourney was against "Team Hersh," it was a fast pace "racehorse" game which we won (82-39) behind the scoring of JayVaughn Pinkston's 31pts and Doron Lamb's 24pts (4 of 6 3pters), Anthony "Face" Givens had 10 assists and 9 pts. The championship game was against the "Bunky Reid AllStars (L.I.) who upset "Team Underrated" in their semi-final game. Playing in our 3rd game of the day, we finally got our legs under us and played "Team Next Basketball" winning this game 78-50. The leading scoreres in this contest were Doron Lamb 22 pts, DaShaun Wiggins 18pts, Davontay Grace 17 pts and JayVaughn Pinkston 11pts. 6/6/05 Coach Kevin Brown: 'After missing the Middle Atlantic Regional Championships in April due to the death of my father many people wondered what was going on with the Cory Erving All Stars 14U team. Those who attended the Super Regional in Scranton, PA on June 4th and June 5th now know that CE is alive and well. The Super Regional hosted by Hoop City included a field of twelve 14U teams with four of those teams already having national bids. The Delaware Sharks, a final four team in the Middle Atlantic Regional Championships, placed 8th against the competition in this event while the Bucks County Blue Devils a 7th place team in the Mid Atlantic Regional fared a little better placing 6th. CE made it to the championship after going 4-1 through a demanding two day schedule that included Aneesa Sports from Brooklyn (58-62 L), Doylestown Demons from PA (70-37 W), Jersey Shore Lightning (73-50 W), New Heights from NY (57-48 W) and the Middleburg Lions from Manassas, VA (56-47 W).

The final was the match CE wanted  - another game with the Brooklyn based Aneesa Sports. The game was a dog fight that included several lead  changes and a one point halftime lead. In the end CE ran out of gas after having to take the long route to the chip' losing 59-53. The Aneesa Sports team was a well coached team with no real star and a lot of gutsy performers. We wish them the best in Orlando and hope to see them again.

The All Stars had several outstanding performers over the weekend. Those in attendance could not stop commenting on the depth, athleticism, and skill level of the team. But the best performance had to go to the team defense played by CE. The press and half court trapping defense gave opponents fits all weekend long. Congratulations to Kenny Battle, KJ Brown, Lamar Hayes, Leonard Hayes III, Haleem Hayward, Kaseef Festus, Maalik Wayns, Avatar Jones and Kendall White on an outstanding weekend of basketball and for earning a trip to Orlando, FL in August.'

6/6/05Reggie Murray, Brooklyn Rams Deputy Director: 'The Brooklyn Rams began their summer season on Saturday games at the inaugural Boys Club of New York Tournament on East 10th Street and Avenue D in the Lower East Side of Manhattan. In our first game our 16-under team lost to a talented BCNY home team 59-48. Our 16-unders didn't get going until one of our starters, Che Gonzales, threw down a monstrous dunk and woke up the rest of our team. And PG Josh Dupuy couldn't be stopped going to the basket. The rest of the 16-under team includes Abasi Wint, Anthony Mottola, Brian Shea, Chris "CJ" Ginda, Ed Newell, Levon Bell, Leyland Grimes, Luis Charles, and Michael Boney. Our 18-under team easily defeated the Sharks, 51-44. High scorers included Adrian Sutherland (12 pts.), Luis Charles (11 pts. while playing with the seniors because he missed his earlier game taking SAT's) and Neil St.Hill (10 pts.). All three high scorers, by the way, took their SAT's earlier in the day Saturday. The rest of our talented 18-under roster include Angelo Laroche, Jonathan Edwards, Mervin Holder, Nigel Byam, Perry Daniel, Terrell Ray, Sean Weismuller, and Senyo Toponwey. Congratulations and good luck to Coach Sean Atkins and the staff of the Boys Club of New York. 6/6/05 Coach Rock Eisenberg: 'I wanted to let everyone know that we at Tilden have a few top notch young players who are under the radar for now but who I feel have a chance to be really special. Tthey are junior Alanzo George 6'9" center, sophomore 6''6" Rito Joseph and sophomore 6'5" pg. Lujens Menard. These kids can truly play and if all goes well in class they can help us get back some of the respect that we lost this year in the PSAL.'

6/5/05 The Playaz were looking at a Blow Up sweep after taking the eighth grade game 73-64 vs. the Newark Rams and the seventh grade game over the Metro Hawks 85 - 55. Aided by a strong effort from their star sixth grade center, Justin Harris, they only trailed the Long Island Lightning Dingle 16-15 before the roof fell in. The Dingle Lightning are loaded. Behind fifth grade rebounder, Manny Brown with Kaheem Canty, Ali Barry and all tournament selections, Sterling Gibbs, Ousman Barry and left handed sparkplug point guard and MVP, Claudius Alabino  they buried (or  Barry'd) the Playaz 67-38.  Pictures and details on the Playaz Club Blow Up tournament page

6/5/05 Coach Artie Cox: 'Congratulations to Akeem Gooding and his family. Akeem signed a national letter of intent to attend Quinnipiac University in the fall. Christ the King HS will miss Akeem Gooding. He is a solid basketball player, a strong student, but most importantly an outstanding person. Coach Joe DeSantis, a CHSAA disciple, will love coaching Akeem. With Akeem Gooding and transfer in the waiting, John Winchester, Quinnipiac will have two of the most athletic players in the conference. Again congratulation and good luck to all.'

6/2/05 Coach Jason Maragh: 'I would like to congratulate the LI Lightning-Maragh 16U team that made it to the final 8 up in the Gym Rat Tournament in Albany.   We lost to a pretty good Metro Hawks. Roland Davis and Momo hit a couple of big shots down the stretch to win the game by 4 points.  But playing 6 hard games in a 24 hour period is tough.  The Gym Rat is based more on endurance and stamina than on skills.  But it was a great experience for us and now we are getting ready for the Team Next Tournament this weekend.'

6/1/05 Coach Torrel Harris, the Unique All-Stars: 'Congratulations to Team Next; they played a great game on Monday beating our team in the championship game for the Metropolitan 13 and Under. Their press was very impressive. I believe Team Next has an excellent chance of winning the Nationals, especially if they play like they played against us. My guys, Tobias Harris, Paul Bilbo, Patrick Walter, Terry Banks, Kendell Harris, Tyler Harris, Ashire Nelson, Trevor Ford and Shawn Nelson played hard and they never quit which is important learning experience when you're not playing your best game. I congratulate our team for working hard as these types of games build character in individuals. Our young men are eager to play in the Team Next tournament this weekend, June 3-5 for a rematch.'

6/1/05 Coach Jimmy Salmon: 'Please check www.playazbasketball.org for an updated list of who is registered for the 2005 Playaz Ball @ Seton Hall University on July 14 and 15. We can only host 32 teams and there are only a few spots left. We are accepting teams on a first paid, first entered basis regardless of shoe company affiliation. The 16U bracket is full while the 15U bracket still needs 4 teams. Also, the Blow-Up tournament (for 6th - 7th - 8th graders) is this weekend. That schedule and directions are posted on the site as well.'

6/1/05 Coach Carlton Screen (FYA): We are hosting our 10th annual FYA/SLAM Invitational Summer Basketball Tournament 2005, at Bildersee Park, Flatlands Avenue and East 81st Street, Brooklyn, NY. starting June 25th thru August 13th, 9U, 11U, 13U, 15U, 17U Boys, 12U girls divisions. Schedule is week to week and flexible, on weekends from 9am to 6pm. We are filling spots fast. Feel free to call 718 434 0127 - 718 666-6534 or email fya1@earthlink.net. We just got back from Albany, playing in The Gymrat Challenge Basketball Tournament. Our 15U team made it to the final 8 after losing our first game by 2 points. I thought it was over for us, but my kids felt differently and won their next game by 40 pts and beat the NJ Steamers by 5 to give us first place in our pool. We did this without our leading scorer Trevon Hamlet 6'7 8th grader. The outstanding player for FYA was Jamal Campbell averaged over 23 pts per game. Yves Jules played steady at the point guard position. It was a great learning experience for most of our young players.'

6/1/05 Michael Melton: 'On July 10 thru July 12 Metro Hoops Basketball Association will be hosting the Metro Hoops Summer Showdown at Rutgers University in Camden. 6/1/05 Nathan Blue: 'Salvador Patricio had a great weekend at Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions playing for NY Elite. Patricio averaged 19.7 ppg. with his high coming against Team Breakdown (FL) for 31 pts.'

6/1/05 Coach Antonio Cannon: 'The 17u T.K. Allstar basketball team played a doubleheader yesterday: The first game, held at the famed West 4th Street competition, where we were defeated by a talented Rock Steady team 72-66.  Rock Steady jumped out to an early 12-0 lead, sparked by the outstanding backcourt play on both ends of the court by Eugene Harvey and Malcolm Grant.  T.K. put together a furious rally to make the game interesting down the stretch, but Malcolm's outstanding outside shooting proved to be our undoing as he finished with 24 pts.  Tony Dennison led all scorers with 25 pts in defeat.  The second game was a final four playoff game held at the Elmcor Spring Madness Classic, where we defeated the Riverside Hawks 63-59 in an intense game from start to finish, Justin Davis led T.K. with 22 pts.  Riverside's Dwight Hardy topped all scorers with 27 pts in defeat.  The championship game will take place Saturday, June 11, @ 3:00pm.  The Louis Armstrong Gym is located at 108th Street and Northern Blvd. Corona, Queens, for further information contact coach Will 718 651-0096 or 347 731-1770.'

6/1/05 Anthony Nicodemo: 'I have a former player that now plays at Bryant University in Rhode Island. He was the Northeast 10 Rookie of the Year two years ago and scored 24 points and was CBS player of the game in the NCCAA Division 2 National Championship this past season. I am looking for a place for him to play this summer. He is about 6'2", real quick and can shoot the 3. He is a real hard worker and is eager to play against some great competition. If you guys can help me find him a league or squad to play on, I would be very graetful. My email address is tgerhoops@aol.com   Please let me know if anyone can help.'
