Seton Hall Prep is attempting to become the third New Jersey High School to win the AND1 HBC in as many years. St. Patrick's of Elizabeth, NJ won the inaugural tournament in 2002 and St. Anthony's of Jersey City, NJ cut down the nets last year. Jefferson (OR) and McKinley (OH) will face off in the consolation game starting at 11:45 a.m.

6/22/04 Brandon Costner puts team first as Pirates capture regional title - Seton Hall Prep (NJ) which had not beaten national power and state rival St. Anthony's (NJ) since before the 1990-1991 season avenged 13 years of frustration in the Semi-Finals with a 61-60 victory en route to the East Regional Championship of the 2004 AND1 High School Championship (HBC) this past weekend at Seton Hall University. Prep's highly recruited 6'8" Brandon Costner by passed an invitation to NBA Players Association Camp in Richmond enabling him to compete with his teammates in the rigorous 64 Team Regional that included other nationally ranked teams such as; Niagara Falls (NY), St. Raymond's (NY), Charlestown (MA), Grady (NY). The Pirates defeated 2002 AND1 HBC Champion in Finals 57-49. The Hall was led by 6'2" guard Andrew Pusar who had 14 of his game high 18 in the first half while St. Pat's was led by the 6'6" Andre Davis and top ranked, playmaking freshman Corey Fisher.

Seton Hall Prep now heads to the AND1 HBC Championships in Philadelphia on the weekend of June 25th -27th, 2004 all games will be played on the campus of St. Joseph's University. The Championship Game will be aired live on CSTV. The Prep will attempt to be the third East I Regional Champion to capture the AND1 HBC Title in as many years.

Seton Hall Prep will face the winners from the other regionals of the AND 1 HBC taking place at seven other venues across the nation: June 11th - 13th ; 11 sites in the Los Angles area and Seattle University (Seattle, WA); June 12th -13th: Spiece Fieldhouse (Fort Wayne, IN) and Baylor University (Waco, TX); June 19th -20th: Dublin Coffman High School (Dublin, OH), Suwanee Sports Academy (Atlanta, GA) and the Run N' Shoot (District Heights, MD). The AND 1 High School Championship is run in partnership with The Hoop Group.

6/21/04 Stacey Costner: 'The championship game for the AND 1 tourney was St. Pat's vs. SHP,  final score was SHP 57 St. Pat's 49.'

6/21/04 NJ Hoops: Another NJ champ crowned.

6/21/04 NY Hoops: St. Pat's KO's St Ray's @ And1 HSBC

6/20/04 Seton Hall Prep will face St Patrick for the And 1 East 1 regional championship this afternoon after taking defending champion St Anthony 61-60 in their semifinal showdown. Mark Solomon, the 6-1 senior guard, kept the Pony Pirates in the game hitting four treys in the first half. Andrew Pusar, the 6-2 senior wing, had a game high 20 to go with 13 from 6-0 junior Peter Braswell and 8 from 6-8 senior Brandon Costner. Don't let Costner's low point total fool you. Point guard Chris Andrews brings the ball up court and then the Pony Pirates run their offense through B C at the high post, where he can either shoot threes, pass down low or pass to the wings and cut to the basket for the return pass. Brandon and the heady Pusar are particularly effective at give and go moves.

On the other side of the semis St Patrick jumped off to a 9-0 lead vs. Linden and won the wire to wire contest 55-35. This is not last summer's Celtic team, a group that was in obvious disarray. This summer the bench is standing on every attempted shot and glad handing each player who returns for a blow. Against Linden, another team that emphasizes team first, Corey Fisher (12), 6-5 junior Andre Davis (10), 6-3 junior forward Tyrone Cook (8), 5-10 junior guard Stephen Draper (8) and 6-8 junior center Yanick Formanano (5) led the way. The others in their eight man rotation are 5-5 junior point guard Altariq Wagner, 6-1  junior guard Jhamar Youngblood and 6-7 junior forward Daquan Cook. Notice - no seniors. If Derrick Caracter does come back to St Pat's as rumored, he'll find plenty of talent ed underclassmen for company. Meanwhile, for coach Phil Colaccio's Tigers, Michael Henderson had a dozen but 6-7 senior center Hafeez Brown was hampered by early foul trouble and was never a factor.

In the quarters St Patrick got balanced scoring from Corey Fisher (13), Stephen Draper (12), Tyrone Cook (11) and Andre Davis (11) to best St Raymond.  Linden jumped on Grady early and never looked back in their matchup, while St Anthony comfortably handled Charleston 61-49 as Sean McCurdy (15), Barney Anderson (13), Miles Beaty (11) Derrick Mercer (9) and Ahmad Nivens (6) each contributed.

The Seton Hall Prep, Niagara Falls quarterfinal tilt was a classic. Andrew Pusar appropriately ended the And 1 halftime with an and 1 basket to knot the score at 33. Pusar (18), Brandon Costner (16), Porter Braswell (8) and 6-2 senior forward Alex Wujciak (10) had just enough for a 66-63 win.

6/20/04 NJ Hoops: NJ gets half the spots in Elite Eight.

6/20/04 NY Hoops: AND1 HSBC Grady,All Hallows Stories.  And Scores from Selected Games.

6/19/04 Today's And 1 first round winners were St Raymond, Shawnee, Bergen Catholic, St Lukes by 1 over Kennedy Paterson, St Patrick, University, Paramus Catholic and All Hallows in bracket 1. In bracket 2 it was St Benedict, CBA, Linden, Atlantic City, Don Bosco Prep, Grady, Passaic Catholic and Rahway.  In the third round it was Seton Hall Prep, Neptune, St Joes Metuchen, Bridgewater, Niagara Falls, Teaneck, Raritan and Elizabeth.  The fourth bracket is headed by St Anthony and they destroyed Central. Other fourth bracket winners were St Joes Montvale, Frederick Douglass, Charleston, Dwight Englewood and Pocono Mountain.

St Ray's Quenten Redfern (17) and Chris Bethel (14) flew high  for the Ravens as senior Ricky Torres couldn't make the first round play (he'll be there for the next two rounds). Quenten doesn't even have a consistent shot yet, but he's so athletic and such a hard worker that he figures to be a key player for the Ravens next season.

Bergen Catholic topped Scotch Plains, playing without their junior stars Derrick Caracter and Lance Thomas, 54-49 as BC's junior guard Nick Vier dropped 16.

For what it's worth St Patrick's 6-1 sophomore guard, Corey Fisher was playing for the Celtics, who easily topped Trinidad.

St Benedict is missing the graduated Smith and Galindo but they led 36-17 at the half on the way to an easy win over Sayerville. They figure to play a three guard set of 5-11 senior Eric Moore, 6-1 junior David Cubilan and 5-11 junior Eugene Harvey bolstered by 6-6 senior Ishmael Traore and 6-8 senior Frank Tchuisi for this tournament and for next season. No one will be shocked, if there are a few more Grey Bee imports by October.

Don Bosco got a convincing 76- 53 win over Bellville behind senior center Tyrell Biggs (game high 24) and junior lefty off guard James (JJ) Bryant (17). DBP's 5-8 senior point guard Stephen Natoli controlled the action for the Ironmen.

Rahway's 6-7 junior point guard, Earl Clark is one of the region's most gifted players with the size, skills and athleticism to dominate games. Unfortunately, Earl is often content to roam the perimeter, shying from contact in the lane. Not so today. Earl had 16 points in his team's 55-44 victory, many coming from hard drives to the basket.

Teaneck's junior two guard Dorian Williams was a large part of the Metro Hawks 15 under success at the Rumble last weekend but he was a non-factor in their tight win over Windsor Ct. Stephen Chapman (11) and 6-3 senior Michael Hanson (13) led the Highwaymen.

St Anthony is once again awesome and the Friars will certainly be the pre-season number one High Hoops school team. They played all twelve players on their roster in crushing Central but next season I believe they'll start the four seniors 5-9 point guard Derrick Mercer, 6-1 off-guard Sean McCurdy, 6-6 forward Barney Anderson and 6-9 center Ahmad Nivins.  Their 6-2 sophomore guard, Miles Beaty may not start at the beginning of the season, but he'll be a starter by playoff time.  Ralph Fernandez is their 5-9 junior point guard who has a nice mid-range jump shot and an adequate handle, while 6-3 senior Robert Bullock may be the first forward off the bench. Willie Irick's younger brother Kharique is a 6-3 sophomore who should improve during the season.

Frederick Douglass Academy topped a solid Holy Cross team 93-84 behind Steve McCoy (game high 27) and 6-3 senior Corey Lyons (17). Coach Pat Mangan's team doesn't have any height but they can play. They were 16-0 last season in Manhattan 1 and seeded # 7 in the playoffs where the were upset by Tilden 56-54 in the Sweet 16. But all of their starters will return for next season, including McCoy, Lyons, 5-11 senior point guard Damini Corbin (15 ppg, 7 rpg and 7 apg) and 6-3 senior guard Ivan Rodriguez (15 ppg, 5 rpg and 5 apg). Don't sleep on the Lions!

James (JJ) Bryant 5-10 junior guard, Don Bosco Prep
