He needs toughness and consistency, but even now is a legitimate national top 25.' 5/29/00 2000 New York Metropolitan AAU Boys Championship at Island Garden: -- The Gauchos then won the 15u game 79 - 68 against the Brooklyn Bridge. The Gauchos attack had four double digit scorers: Chris Bernard (16), Marlon Smith (14), Sean Banks (11) and Dexter Hall (10). 6/26/00 Ivanthegod: 'Sean Banks - I have seen many players in the tri state area and this kid ranks up there with the top 25. He is a 6"5 swingman who plays down low for the 15 & under Gauchos team.(they lack a big man that's why). He played varsity as a freshman at Bergen Catholic and avareged 8.2 ppg and 5.3 boards in limited action. Next year he will be a big time player in the tri state area. He can shoot the ball and has an average handle and is very strong and can easily play the block when needed. Take a early look at this kid before he gets big. He plays in U.D.C with the Gauchos also and will be going to the nationals with them next week. You may wanna wait a couple of weeks as he is not 100% and has a lingering ankle injury.' 7/31/00 Fan mail from JKID2323: 'Joe Sandberg and Shaun Banks Underated - Shaun Banks has also stepped up averaging close to 13 a game throughout the Nationals and scored 21 in the National Championship game. In Colorado like Sandberg he stepped up when he had to scoring close to 16 a game and was also named to the BCI All American team.' 8/19/00 UDC, 2000 'In the other semi, the Gauchos led 33 - 24 at the half and throughout all but the final three seconds of the game. That's when Jason Wingate hit an and one runner in the lane to give the Church a 62 - 60 win. Wingate, Peter Sagery and Kimani Blaize each had 14 for the victors while Sean Banks had a game high 22 for the Gauchos.' Sagari Allegne 7-2, center, Bronx, NY. 12/01 GB # 2. 4/02 JPM 'He's made major strides in catching and shooting the ball (those foul shots look good) and is using both hands shooting close to the basket. He doesn't (and will never) have the body type to post up to the basket a la Shaq, so he's improved moving laterally to receive the post pass. Still mechnical and favors going to his right to shoot. He's cut high and will never have a strong base, but he needs to get stronger when extended, catching or shooting the ball. He was always an intimidating shot blocker and shot changer and he continues to be one.' 9/98: Bound for St. Raymonds, Sagari makes #10 nationally for Recruiter Online incoming freshmen. 9/17/98 Winston Kelly: 'Sad to report, a source of mine is advising me that not only did 6'11 Sagari Allegne freshman to be, not register at Rice, All Hallows, McClancy or Christ the King, but it appears he is redoing the 8th grade at Frederick Douglas.' 8/20/99 Winston@GameBall: 'Sagari Allegne will be attending Rice High School in September 1999. He recently successfully completed summer school at Rice High School. He will also be competing on Rice's varsity team as a freshman.' Web note: Sagari is on the Rice varsity roster, but has not suited up this season. Academics? 8/25/99 Cee Gee: 'Sagari is going to be a good one too, everyone is looking for the monster or for him to be dominant and he will be. Sagari was alot better than advertised and at 7-2 he blocked everything near the rim. He plays with emotion and that is a great sign. In the one on one competition he was awesome. Mark my words this kid will be a pro.' 1/00: Sagari is on the Rice varsity roster but is not suiting for games. Academics, again? 9/4/00 LFBALL: 'On Sunday I decided to drive from New Jersey to Queens to see "The Games" as Nathan Blue labeled them. I could not believe the talent I saw. Sagari Alleyne against Peter Ramos in the first game. Both sophs and over 7 ft 1. Peter scored around 20 but Sagari despite scoring only 14 or so was the most impressive. Up and under for dunks, turn around jump shots, Sagari had the whole package.' Darryl Watkins 6-11, Paterson Catholic, NJ. 8/01 NJ Hoops # 3. 4/02 JPM 'Thin but has wide shoulders and good hands. Mobile but needs to work on conditioning. He's inconsistent and fades late in games.' 4/1/02 JSHUTTLESWURTH: 'Playaz Spring Fling In the championship game the Tim Thomas Playaz won their own tournament in workman fashion over Baltimore Blue 83-69. In the second half the Playaz held on with the superb plays of juniors Sean Banks and Darryl Watkins. Watkins wasn't so much of an offensive presence but he dominated the game with his defense finishing the game with 11 blocks 7 alone in the second half and altering shots throughtout the game.' 3/7/02 NorthJersey.com: Memorable head-to-head duel -- Darryl Watkins and Joe Sandberg. And No denying BC. 9/29/01 NJO: Judge reinstates tranfers - Darryl Watkins and Collin Bailey - barred by NJSIAA ruling. Luol Deng 6-7, forward Blair Academy, NJ. 8/01 NJ Hoops # 1. 4/26/02 ihigh.com: 'Blair Academy (N.J.) forward Loul Deng took a trip to see Duke this past weekend. 4/17/01 Coach Mike Cervellino's NJ Showcase roster had sophs Russ Carter, Luol Deng and Camel Drummond. 6/6/00 Jake Summers: 'Blair Academy: a small prep school in New Jersey has been the center of attention recently. After star guard 6'3 Royal Ivey committed to top 25 Texas, Blair has been noted as being a basketball hot spot in New Jersey. They have just recruited three new players in 6'8 Charlie Villanueva, 6'0 Roberto Felipe, and 6'3 Mike Goia. Charlie, who is arguably the top player in NYC in the class of 2002 has joined 6'7 Loul Deng who is the brother of Ajou Deng who plays for UCONN.' Chris Taft 6-9 forward, Xaverian, Bklyn. 12/01 GB # 3. 9/16/02 All Star Report: 'Ben Howland's Pittsburgh Panthers may have struck out on Foust and Lavender, but they struck gold over the weekend with a commetment from 6'10 F/C Chris Taft from Xaverian HS in Brooklyn, NY. Taft is among the nation's most polished prospects at the offensive end of the floor, possessing excellent footwork and the ability to score around the basket with either hand. Taft's finnesse game should compliment 6'9 265 lbs. workhorse center Walter Waters well as they become the Panthers' frontcourt of the future.' 4/02 JPM 'He's developing a wider body. Offensively he's a solid post player with good footwork and positioning. Unlike many big men, Chris will stay down low and not roam the perimeter. He can shoot up to 15' but often short arms the ball. Gets the job done defensively with good instincts, footwork and positioning, rather than great hops. Unfortunately, Chris had a mediocre game against Shagari in the CHSAA playoffs.' 4/29/02 Coach Gary Charles: 'I.S. 8 Saturday night Chris Taft has definitely arrived.. Anything that came off the rim, he dunked it. He made a nice half hook shot over a player who I think is the best defensive player in the country in Jason Fraser. Although some of the shots he made were because Jason slid over to help and no one rotated down, it was not hard to see just how talented that young man is.' 6/12/99 John P. Miciotta: 'Since the Philadelphia contingent was late due to traffic, the festivities kicked off with a game featuring some of Brooklyn's top grammar school talent. They shared the spotlight with 6'2" Chris Taft, a rangy and quick forward who was everywhere in pressure defense and whose quickness and hustle combined with McNeil's point guard play lead the way for their white clad team.' 11/99: Chris is not on the Xaverian varsity. No freshmen and only one sophomore, Casweel Smith, made coach Alesi's roster. 6/19/00 John P. Miciotta: 'The 16u championship game between Riverside and Brooklyn USA provided a wonderful glimpse into the future of New York City hoops. Riverside was considerably smaller but used the quickness passing ability of Christ the King's Kelvin Nelson and All Hallows' Rickey Soliver ... and the shooting ability of Rice's Keydren Clark to forge an early 22 point lead. Brooklyn used a stifling press, the inside power of Xaverian's Chris Taft and Boys and Girls' Amadou Fall, plus the typically stellar play of Sebastian Telfair to come all the way back and win by 14. Gary Ervin, 6-1 Robeson, NY. 5/12/02 All Star Report: Sabes Foundation Invitational Class of 2003 Evaluations includes - Jeremy Tiers: '6-1 175 lbs. PG Brooklyn (NY) Robeson, Riverside Church. Jet quick guard. Has no trouble getting into the lane. Good shooter. Aggressive defender racked up a lot of steals. Will join Quincy Douby at St. Thomas More next season.' 4/16/01 Daily News: 'First team all city -- Robeson guard Gary Ervin grabs the fifth spot. While teammate Kenny Adeleke might have received more pub in the early part of the season, the junior was key in leading the Eagles to a 27-2 record and a run to the PSAL title game. He averaged 16 points and a surprising nine boards despite being a point guard.' 4/01 Real Scout: 'Gary Irvin 5-11 Right Handed Nickname "CornBread" Gary was my PSAL Player of the year. Most college coaches say he has the "New York City attitude." Which is " I don't care who you are, I'm coming at you and you better come at me!" I think that's what makes him just as good as the other guards in NYC and maybe even in the United States after this summer. With the constant work on his jumper. Gary will even be more fun to watch ths summer. AAU Team: Long Island Panthers. Charlie Villanueva 6-8 forwarde Blair Academy, NJ 8/01 NJ Hoops # 2. 12/01 GB # 1 4/30/02 Nathan Blue: 'Charlie Villanueva one of the Top 5 players in America has had some of the top schools flocking up to Blair Academy in Blairstown New Jersey since the begining of the month. So far Seton Hall, St. John's, Villanova, Kentucky, Hofstra, Syracuse, Illinois, and Tennessee have all been there within the last couple of weeks. Florida, UNC, USC, Miami, are still up in the air over a visit.' 4/02 JPM 'Woodhaven native was reclassified for this group. He is a great small forward scorer, a good shooter to 3 point range and finishes on the break. Charlie has the tools to play defense - long arms and quickness but doesn't yet put in the effort.' 12/8/99 Daily News: Villanueva Scores 30 as Newtown Rolls. 1/5/00 Daily News 'Newtown 67, Bryant 49: Host Newtown clung to a 34-31 lead at halftime but opened the second half with a 14-0 run to put it away. Charlie Villanueva had 29 points and 14 rebounds.' 1/16/00 realscout: 'I respect your list but how can you leave the Gameball #3 ranked who should be #1. ABCD this summer 6-7 185 lbs shooting Guard Charlie Villanueva and Roberto Felipe 6-2 165 PG third leading scorer in five-star Basketball camp the last week in the rising tenth grade division. Both are from Newtown in Queens. I think after talking to some people you'll hear how could you forget him or better them. I like the idea of the top players from this class but these to players should make you update the class more rapidly. By he way Villanueva is avg 22pts 13rbs and Newtown is 14-2. Felipe just became eligible because of a transfer. He is currently 6th man on varsity.' 6/8/00 Newsday: Charlie Villanueva, a Newsday basketball first-team all-Queens selection this season for Newtown, said yesterday he will transfer to Blair Academy, a prep school in Blairstown, N.J. Daon Merritt 5-9 point guard, St Raymond 12/01 GB # 6. 4/02 JPM 'Good things can come in small packages. Daon's quick, strong and a good shooter to nearly 3 point range. He's pesky on defense. Daon's improved academically and if the SAT is there he's a high D1 prospect.' 5/27/00 realscout@webtv.net: 'Daon had a great tournament brought his team to the championship game getting past Rebel, Mount Vernon, Gauchos, and losing by one point to LI Panthers. The big question for the Rookie of the year award winner is can he get his act together? Is this the beginning of a summer legend or a high school star?' 6/19/00 LFBALL: Daon Merritt is a future star if he can control his emotions. Word is Prep school or Cardozo HS for him in the fall. If those do not work out, he may wind up at a pretty good public school in NJ. 6/20/00 The Apple's Best High School Ballaz' -- Player Evaluations from the Rumble -- 16u division: Daon took his IS8 rookie of the year reputation to the Rumble and definitely showed he deserved it. He scored 30 against the Church and 25 against the Brooklyn Beasts, using a combination of speed, quickness, strength and a good outside shot.' 9/4/00 LFBALL: 'On Sunday I decided to drive from New Jersey to Queens to see "The Games" as Nathan Blue labeled them. Speaking of St. Raymond's, Daon Merritt, though only a rising sophomore, played in the second game. If there is a better sophomore guard in the area than this guy, please let me know. I know about the kid from Paterson Catholic who I think is outstanding. But this kid could be one of the all-time greats if he keeps his head right.' Quincy Douby 6-2 guard Grady, NYC (GB #11, HS #8). 5/12/02 All Star Report: Sabes Foundation Invitational Class of 2003 Evaluations includes - Jeremy Tiers: '6-3, 185 lbs. 2G Brooklyn (NY) Grady, Riverside Church. Senior is bound for St. Thomas More. Excellent ball control. Thrives in transition setting. Was average shooting the ball from the perimeter. Borderline high major prospect.' 6/1/00 Coach Jack Ringel: 'The Grady Falcons have been playing as a team in the IS275 HS tournament and doing fine. The sleeper for next year is 6\2 soph Quincy Douby. He is an Eric Leslie clone with a better shot. He just got back from Albany with the Gauchos.' JR Smith 6-6, Lakewood, NJ. 8/01 NJ Hoops #10. 5/15/02 All Star Report: Southern Invitational Recap -- Boo Williams team dispatched an ultra talented Tim Thomas Playaz (Gold) squad 84-65 in the championship game. From the Playaz, ... having a strong tournament from the Playaz was versatile 6-5 swingman J.R. Smith. This outstanding athlete is looking to play two sports in college and is considering a high-major wide receiver prospect as well, according to All-Star Sports Rob Matera.' 4/1/02 JSHUTTLESWURTH: 'Playaz Spring Fling In the championship game the Tim Thomas Playaz won their own tournament in workman fashion over Baltimore Blue 83-69. The first half was up and down and two things that had the Playaz up 43-35 were 4 techs called on Baltimore Blue and the hot hand of J.R. Smith. Smith, a junior from Lakewood, NJ, who is known widely in Jersey for basketball and football, he is even more of a national name on the gridiron as a wide reciever. But after today's first half he looked like he could make a national name in both sports. He hit 5 threes and all but one came from NBA distance. He ended the half with 15 points on the way to a total of 17 for the game.' 4/07/02 NJO JR Smith possesses untapped potential 3/6/02 DaddyBnice: 'Neptune's train is still rolling with a 75 to 68 victory over Monmouth Reg. for the Central Jersey Group3 Championship. Neptune next faces Lakewood HS with it's 6' 6 high flying junior J.R.Smith who leads the Shore Area in scoring.' 1/10/02 bayshore: 'St Anthony 62 Lakewood 46. Lakewoods 65 Jr. J. R. Smith had 13 enduring a 6-22 night from the floor. Hell probably fall asleep with a hand in his face tonight.' Jamar Nutter 6-3 forward, Seton Hall Prep NJ. 8/01 NJ Hoops # 5. 4/02 JPM 'Mr. Intensity. He's the best competitor for this class in the region - a Terry Dehere with a better body and explosiveness. He's got a solid mid range shot though not a consistent threat from three. But he can stick it and can be a very good clutch shooter. Also he can post many off guard sized players because of his strength. Jamar plays great on and off the ball defense. He's a high D1 prospect.' 6/5/99 FullCourtMag: '2003 6-1 Jamar Nutter West Orange NJ. There is a war going on over where this kid will go to high school and what AAU team this kid will play for.' 7/6/99 Full Court Mag: 'Class of 2003 National Rankings includes: 8. Jamar Nutter 6-2 SG Seton Hall Prep (West Orange, NJ). 1/23/00 Frank: ' Homeless classic match-up - Freshman phenon Jamar Nutter had a great game. His ballhandling and aggressive play earmarked him as a star of the future.' 1/23/00 LFBALL: 'The frosh guard on SHP, Jamar Nutter, will be outstanding next season.' 2/18/00: Frank: 'The 54th annual Essex County Tournament SemiFinal Round will be played tomorrow at Essex County College in Newark. Since the injury to Marcus Toney-El, Seton Hall has become somewhat of a different club. They still run the same half-court sets but in recent games their perimeter game has improved drastically. Jamar Nutter and Tyrone Barley, in particular, are doing more breaking down their defenders off the dribble and drilling jump shots from long range. Mike Nardi, 5-11, St. Patricks, NJ. Blue Ribbon, 8/01 NJ Hoops # 9. 4/02 JPM 'Good shooter but streaky. He can be too fast; so needs to harness his game. He's an ok defender but his size is a concern. Mending from broken foot. Mike's a mid major prospect.' 7/6/99 Full Court Mag: 'Class of 2003 National Rankings includes: 46. Mike Narde 5-11 PG St. Patricks (Elizabeth, NJ). 11/23/99 Coach Chris Chevannes: 'The St. Patrick Celtics have three things we can count on - defense, depth & Boyle. Soph. Mohammed Wilson, Sam Lake, Travis DaGroat, Cassius Carpenter, Mike Nardi will all share the point.' 1/23/00 Frank: 'Homeless classic - Coach Boyle started his own freshman, 5-11 Michael Nardi. He did not hurt the Celtics, but Sam Lake and Payoute made more contributions.' Elliah (Karron) Clark 6-6, Lincoln, NY. 12/01 GB # 3. 4/02 Elliah is playing for Brooklyn Bridge at IS8 this spring. Since he will be eligible for college with this group, I'll keep him on this list. 4/02 JPM 'Elijah and Karron Clarke are indeed one in the same person. And he has been listed all year as a junior although he is in his 4th year of school. He spent what was his "9th grade year" at Banneker before transferring to Spingarn in DC and then returning to Brooklyn this season and enrolling at Lincoln. He is a very good student so I am not sure if he is headed to prep school as a post graduate or has been re-classified due to credits lost with the move or what may have been a hectic year. I do know that Elijah is a kid who does not need prep school to get eligible but simply to keep playing.' 4/02 JPM 'Eliah Clarke is a quick and long swingman who can guard both wing positions. Sacrificed his perimeter game as the year went along to help the Railsplitters on the boards but is a good outside shooter. Easily a mid-to-high division one prospect who's just 17 and will get better as he gets stronger.' 4/28/02 Matt Grasso: 'Tonight in one of the most highly anticipated exhibition games ever at IS8 in Jamaica Queens, Brooklyn Bridge took on last summer's #1 team in the country, the Long Island Panthers.... The player that benefitted the most was Karron Clarke. This kid really showed his skills tonight and that he can be a high energy player on the next level. Syracuse and Georgetown are very high on him and for good reason. He was picking the Panthers apart with his moves around the hoop as well as his ability to finish in traffic which included a few thunderous dunk. One of those dunks was a shot fake pass into an alley-oop from Lebron. With all of these stars on the court, he was the one that really stole the show. 4/14/02 NY Post All PSAL Hoops: 'It's popular to believe that the Railsplitters won the PSAL title only because of Sebastian Telfair, but anyone who actually watched them knows without the big, athletic Clarke manning the paint, Lincoln wouldn't have had a chance at the crown. "He was so consistent for us," said head coach Dwayne Morton. "On days Sebastian wasn't playing well for us, Elliah became the man. On the other days, he did exactly what we needed him to do." Like grab rebounds. He pulled down 13 a game, while scoring nearly 20. Although he has received offers from Big East schools, Clarke, who just turned 17, will likely head to prep school for a year.' 4/16/02 Daily News: 'Somehow this 6-6 senior was often overlooked this season. Averaging 16 points and 12 rebounds, he was the perfect complement to Telfair. The senior came up huge in the city title game, with his 16 rebounds in a low-scoring game clearly the difference. Clarke is looking at Syracuse.' Mamadou Diakhate 6-5, St. Marys LI. 12/01 GB # 8. 4/02 JPM 'Muscular, competitive small forward who is a baseline shooter. Dou finds ways to score. Probably lacks the lateral quickness to defend the two spot at the next level. He's a mid to high major prospect.' 3/23/02 Newsday: Mamadou Diakhate: Better Late Than... Big 3rd quarter leads St. Marys into state final. 2/13/02 Abman55: 'Attended St. Dominic vs St. Mary's last night at St.Dominic in Oyster Bay.....Final score was St.Doms 70 St.Marys 67 in ot....great and exciting game in front of crowd of 2000 plus . St Mary's 6 4 Jr. from Africa Mamadou Diakhate had 16 pts and missed a potential game tying shot at the buzzer to end the game....also had a costly technical foul in the fourth quater.' 1/12/02 Newsday: Mamadou Diakhate (25) Leads St. Mary's Past St. Dominic. Lamont Hamilton 6-9, Milford Academy, Ct. 12/01 GB # 10. 4/02 JPM 'Lamont was briefly eligible at Bishop Ford and has verballed to St. Johns. With a full arsenal this year he'll use his weapons as well as any point guard around.' 8/8/98: The MVP of the 12-13 year old division for the McMichael tournament in Ravenswood Park was Japhet McNeil the great point man from St. Vincent Ferrer's CYO program. 6/12/99 John P. Miciotta: Since the Philadelphia contingent was late due to traffic, the festivities kicked off with a game featuring some of Brooklyn's top grammar school talent. The tilt did indeed feature two of the city's top point guard prospects; 8th grader Japhete McNeil and 7th grader Sebastian Telfair. The two lightning quick point men traded dazzling drives, stellar defense and no look passes for an interesting and entertaining glimpse into the future of City Hoops. The best thing about both of those guys is that they are both superb leaders who gave their teams poise and confidence in the face of heavy defensive pressure. That leadership ability, more than any one attribute makes them worthy successors in the seemingly endless line of great New York City floor leaders. 11/26/99 KyleYeldell: 'I saw CTK's freshman team play today. While playing with back pain Miller left Phenom ranked high among the class of 2003 (8th graders) and played in the Phenom Jr. All-American Grade school All-Star game on the East Squad. See this site and scroll down to GRADE SCHOOL RANKINGS. Jai feels like playing ball in New York will help him take his game to another level. The straight "A", National Honor's society member hopes to make New York his home ... if the Gauchos will have him.' 8/25/99 Cee Gee: 'Jai is a player with great skills, he can shoot, handle the ball, play D, he does whatever. Jai is a athlete too which is only going to add to the fact that he is a player. Great skills and good attitude.'

My thanks to John P Miciotta (JPM) and others on this site who have contributed to player evaluations. The rankings were compiled by referencing Blue Ribbon, Gameball, NJ Hoops, Real Scout and Apple's Ballaz' lists. The more than 100 people (half of them, coaches) on this site's mailing list had a chance to contribute, though some won't rank players on principle. Ultimately, the rankings are mine, the site's programmer and basketball fan. I am not a scout and I am not a talent evaluator. These are youngsters and many are still growing. The rankings should be taken very, very lightly. This listing is primarily a reason to profile the region's prominent juniors in one place on this site. I apologize to all those who should be on this list, but are not, due to my ignorance. They list 34 New York sophomores - Shagari Allegne, Tariq Atkins, Edward Berrios, Kimani Blaize, Ramel Bradley, Carl Brown, Mitchell Buford, Kirk Bunn, Rashon Clark, Jamar Dart, Steve Dyer, Emmanuel Estevez, Mark Fielder, Dexter Hall, Mark Holder, Courtney Johnson, Anthony Lalor, Dominic Lewis, Ivan Marnike, Justin Marshall, Louie McCroskey, Japhet McNeil, Daon Merritt, Knowledge Miller, Chris Nunez, George Peters, Kendell Provett, Peter Ramos, Marlon Smith, Chris Taft, Joshua Thomas, Julian Thomas and Brian Williams. 11/19/00 HoopsTV.com: 'Shagari Alleyene, SO., 7-2, Rice (New York, NY). A true center who works hard on perfecting his role as a big fella. Alleyene doesnt try to play on the wing or hit the 3. He simply concentrates on scoring from the blocks, rebounding and shot blocking all of which he does well. The 7-footer has touch and grabs every pass, rebound or loose ball in sight, but hes still very thin and raw. Grant Billmeier, SO., 6-10, St. Patricks (Elizabeth, NJ). Extremely gifted post player with tricks well beyond his years. His short jumper is smooth, and hes tenacious on the glass. Billmeier is very active and runs the floor like a big guard. "Big Red" was good for 15 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists per game in 1999-00. Charlie Villanueva, SO., 6-8, Blair Academy (Blairstown, NJ). Villanuevas dribbling skills and ridiculously sticky mitts create a versatile player who will see clock at the 2, 3 or 4. His height, vertical and quickness make him difficult to stop on the way to the cup. With some work Villanueva could be ranked as a Top 20 player in 2002. Stanley Branch , SO., 6-7, Pleasantville (Pleasantville, NJ). His national breakout came in December 1999 when as a frosh he tore it up for Atlantic City HS at the Slam Dunk to the Beach (DE). This season Branch is runnin with a new squad, but he still moves like a guard, cleans the glass and dunks with frightening regularity. Marlon Smith, SO, 6-0, Archbishop Molloy (Queens, NY). Smith is a big and strong for a sophomore point man. One of NYCs finest ball handlers, Smith has excellent court awareness, a sweet outside touch and a tireless work ethic. Jamar Nutter, SO, 6-2, Seton Hall Prep (West Orange, NJ). As the 6th man on last years nationally ranked Seton Hall Prep squad, Nutter was off the hook. He can shoot the rock, but if a defender creeps up, hell cut to the paint with his dribbles. His handle and passing skills are more than strong enough for Nutter to play the point if needed.' 9/24/00: Class 2003 coverage upped by 17 from 49 to 66. This index groups them by fifteens. Sagari Allegne 7-2 Center, Speaking of 7 foot, Sagari is going to be a good one too, everyone is looking for the monster or for him to be dominant and he will be. Sagari was alot better than advertised and at 7-2 he blocked everything near the rim. He plays with emotion and that is a great sign. In the one on one competition he was awesome. Mark my words this kid will be a pro. Marlon Smith 5-8 Point guard, Marlon Smith is a fine talent, he has all those New York point guard skills, but he can shoot the ball. So people complained that Marlon shot the ball too much, maybe he did but so did a lot of other kids. Smith is a tremedous ball-handler and when the ball is in his hands something is going to happen, he's either going to score, drop a dime, or get fouled. Only going into the 9th and still learning the game watch out..... Davonne Fowkles 6-4 Wing Forward, Fowkles was mad at himself all week, he kept saying he could play better, Davonne played great. Fowkles has good offensive tools for his size, he can cross you, pop a jay, and play with his back to the basket. Jai Miller 6-2 combo guard, Jai is a player with great skills, he can shoot, handle the ball, play D, he does whatever. Jai is a athlete too which is only going to add to the fact that he is a player. Great skills and good attitude. Arthur Onuora 6-4 Wing Forward, very talented and can do alot of things, he showed that he has great skills and that he can be big time. Onuara shot the ball well, handled it in transition, and made good decisions. Emmanuel Estavez 6-0 point guard, St. Raymond's has a player, he was another player everyone loved, and he play showed you why. Manny lite up people all week but did it in the team concept, he played well against the big competition too. 7/6/99 Full Court Mag: 'Class of 2003 National Rankings includes: 3. Our intention is to invite as many Catholic and Public high school coaches as we can to the event. There will be an educational component as well as competitive play. Hope to see you there.' 8/8/98: John: 'I wanted you to see this article about the McMichael tournament in Ravenswood Park. The MVP of the 12-13 year old division was Japhet McNeil the great point man from St. Vincent Ferrer's CYO program. When you update the elementary lists in the players section he should be at the top of the 8th graders. This kid is something. Also the fact that he's playing for BQ Express ought to tell you which high school has the inside track.' Class of 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005.
