9/10/03 Class 2004 coverage upped to over100 with the first 60 plus ranked and the rest grouped alphabetically. John P Miciotta, tbone and others on this site contributed to the profiles and player evaluations. The rankings were compiled by referencing Gameball, NJ Hoops, Insiders Hoops, Hoop Scoop and Apple's Ballaz' lists and by watching play at IS8, UDC, Gauchos and CityWide. The more than 100 people (half of them, coaches) on this site's mailing list had a chance to contribute, though most won't rank players on principle. Ultimately, the final decision was mine, the site's programmer and basketball fan. I am not a scout, and I am not a talent evaluator. This ranking should be taken very, very lightly. It is primarily a reason to profile prominent players in one place on this site. I apologize to all those who should be on this list, but are not, due to my ignorance. For comments, suggestions and further evaluations please email to nycnjhoops@aol.com.

Sebastian Telfair 6-0, point guard, Brooklyn, NY.  12/01 GB # 1. 5/02 JPM 'Sebastian is on a higher level than anyone else in this class. He has it all - strength, mid-range game, passing, excellent quickness, solid jump shot to three point range. Physically, straight to the NBA from high school is a real possibility. Sebastian is ranked nationally as #1 in this class.'  4/00 11/5/99 Brooklyn Scout: 'The Brooklyn USA 8th-grade AAU team will travel to play Minneapolis South, the Minnesota 8th-grade state AAU champions, on Thursday, November 11 at the Target Center. The Brooklyn USA team will feature five nationally-ranked players including Sebastian Telfair (#1 eighth grader, Hoop Scoop).  4/21/00 Basketball Phenoms: 'Sebastian Telfair 5-8 PG Lincoln (Brooklyn, NY)   Tom Sicignano, the Brooklyn USA coach is known on the streets simply as "Ziggy,"   Ziggy's scouting report: "Sebastian has excellent ball handling skills. He is a great passer who sees the floor

and has no problem giving the ball up. He is an excellent shooter and great penetrater. He'll pass teammates the ball even though he knows they might miss a shot that he could have taken and made. But when the game is on the line and there is less than three minutes to go, he'll take the shot and he'll make the shot."   Sebastian's brother is former Providence College star 6-6 SF Jamel Thomas.   NBA superstar Stephon Marbury is a cousin. JR Smith, 6-5 forward, St Benedict NJ 12/20/03 NJO: 'NJ small forwards -- Some scouts call him a shooting guard, some a swingman. Whatever the appellation, regard Smith as perhaps the state's most talented overall player this season. He has good speed, a powerful body and major ups, whether coasting in for a dunk or soaring above bigger guys for rebounds. The 6-6 Smith has committed to North Carolina.'  11/02 InsidersHoops: Exploded as a prospect during the waning parts of the spring of 2002. Strung together a ridiculous summer and was the top prospect on a loaded Tim Thomas team. Has range, superior athleticism and is a big time finisher. Was a top ranked receiver but transferred and reclassified as a junior and gave up football. Sky walking athlete can really score. 2002 ABCD camper. 9/02 NJ Hoops # 5 as a senior.   1/03 Hoop Scoop # 25.  1/20/03 NJO: J.R. Smith poured in 14 of his season-high 30 points in the fourth quarter, including 3-pointers on three successive possessions, to lead St. Benedicts Prep to an 85-69 triumph over Heritage Christian of Texas in the semifinal round of the Flyin To The Hoop Invitational yesterday in Dayton, Ohio.  2/16/03 NJO: JR Smith's 33 propel St. Benedict's Prep past Life Center, 74-69. 7/11/03  InJersey: Who's got J.R.?  Many college coaches are hoping to acquire the services of former Lakewood star J.R. Smith.  7/10/03 NorthJersey: J.R. Smith -- Monmouth County star waits on offer from UNC.

Juan Diego Tellos Palacios, 6-8 forward New Savior American, LI  6/25/02 Eric Jaklitsch: 'Juan Diego Tello Palacious was unstoppable this weekend at the Charlie Weber tournament. The kid is the best big man in the tri state area. Out of all of the classes!'  12/01 GB # 2.  5/02 JPM 'A long name well worth remembering. He and the Grizzlies' Pau Gasol (NBA rookie of the year) may be a pair of bookend forwards for the Spanish National team for years. JDTP is a broad 6-8 about 245 pounds, but still quick and moves like a three. He is a good shooter in traffic and on the baseline but no real post game yet. A high D1 prospect.'  5/02 JDTP is playing for Queens RimRockers, Exodus at IS8 this spring.

3/30/04 School Sports: Colombian-born senior power forward Juan Diego Tello Palacios of Our Savior New American (N.Y.) was named to the Nike Hoop Summit's World Select Team on Monday.  5-09-2002 Sabes Foundation Invitational Underclassmen Evaluations - Jeremy Tiers: '6-8 255 lbs. P/WF Centereach (NY) Our Savior New American, Gary G-Rebs. Native of Colombia. Excellent inside-outside player. Good athleticism. Surprisingly good ball handling ability for a player of his stature. Showed he can drain the three-pointer if left open. Mid-range game also solid. Puts in on the floor and even demonstrated the ability to execute a crossover dribble. Draws fouls around the basket when his hits the boards. Average defender. Scored 22 points against Howard Pulley 1 and 17 against the Illinois Warriors. High major prospect with elite skills.'  11/23/02 PrepStars: 'Getting stuck on the losing end of a 73-49 blowout makes it nearly impossible for a player to look good, but junior 6-7 BF Juan Diego Palacios gave it his best shot on Friday night. Our Savior was rocked by Blair Academy, and Palacios was positively awful (by his standards) in the first half, but he bounced back in the second frame. In all, Palacios hit 2-4 threes, ran the floor hard, nailed all six of his free throws and played very physical basketball in piling up 22 points. Because he's just an average leaper, he has trouble scoring over taller athletes like Luol Deng and Charlie Villanueva, but he uses his bulk and strength -- and an improving jump shot -- to make up the difference.'  11/02 InsidersHoops: 'What a prospect. He’s a native of Columbia. Came onto the scene as a sophomore and made an impact with his high school team. Very skilled big man with a soft touch and great size. One of the elite big men in a loaded Class of 2004.'  1/03 Hoop Scoop # 17. 1/19/03 Kentucky.com:  Juan Diego Palacios scored 27 points as Our Savior New American (N.Y.) beat Lexington Catholic 68-46 last night in the Flyin' to the Hoop Invitational in Dayton, Ohio. 1/21/03 Dayton Daily News: Flyin’ to the Hoop Tournament MVP Juan Diego Palacios sparks Our Savior New American over St Benedict 65 - 45. Colombian big man paves way with 24-point effort.

Stanley Branch 6-9  9/02 NJ Hoops # 1.  8/01 NJH # 1. 5/02 JPM 'He can't defend the 2. But he can play the wing offensively and defensively. At last spring's Rumble he got points off transition and offensive rebounds. He's quick off his feet, broad, plays hard and pursues the ball. Stanley's another high major prospect.' 08/01 Metro Hoops: '# 1. This kid has a pro body, at 6-7 Stanley is natural 2-3 guard. Stanley's jump shot is the real deal. He has some serious range. Don't leave him open. Yo! talk about hops, this kid get's up! Go watch Stanley do his thing at a local High School Gym near you. He is by far the best sophomore in the class, and definitely top five in the country. Can't wait to see him and Luol Deng bang heads when St. Benedict's plays Blair Academy.' 11/02 InsidersHoops: 'Reclassified and will one day be a 5th year senior. Lefthander is growing into a monster and one of the most feared rebounder/rejectors on the East Coast. Has superior athleticism and timing as a shot blocker. Rebounds with ferocity and intensity. Will be a high-major talent at the highest level. All-Star at the 2002 ABCD Camp.'  11/02 NJO: 'He reached double figures in points and rebounds with regularity last season. The 6-8 junior presented more of the same with 14 points and 17 rebounds in his first game this season, a 59-57 victory over Simon Gratz of Philadelphia.'  12/15/02 NJO: Stanley Branch had 14 points and 17 rebounds and scored the winning basket on a tip-in with 1.6 seconds remaining as St. Benedicts opened its season with a 59-57 victory over Simon Gratz yesterday at St. Josephs University in Philadelphia.  1/03 Hoop Scoop # 44. 1/16/03 NJO: Stanley Branch had 22 points and 11 rebounds to lead St. Benedicts to a 71-63 victory over Lawrenceville yesterday in Newark.  2/3/03 NJO: Stanley Branch, cheered from the opening introductions on through the game by his hometown fans, delivered a game-high 24 points while taking a team-leading nine rebounds as St. Benedicts claimed a 73-38 victory over Frederick Douglass Academy of New York. 6/27/03  St Benedict: ' Stanley Branch was not on the St Benedict's And 1 roster. The latest PrepStars print edition has him at IMG, Bradenton Fl.  Stanley was the NJ Hoops top rated player in the 2004 class and his post presence will be missed.'

Russell Robinson 6-2 forward Rice, NYC. 12/01 GB # 3   5/02 JPM ' Proved his mettle early last season as a tough, physical defender vs. Sebastian in Rice's early season, come from behind win against Lincoln. Great competitor who scores in traffic. Currently has an ok jumper but that figures to improve. Big opportunity next year with four Rice perimeter seniors (Keydren Clark, Jason Wingate, Steven Burtt, Jr. and Christian Brown) graduating.'   11/99 Russell played for the Gauchos A, 13 and under team with Ronald Ramon and Sundiata Gaines for their Fall Roundball Classic averaging 9.2 ppg. 1/29/00  IS8 Jumpman Winter League Gauchos are led by terrific trio of Russ Robinson,  Ronald Ramon and Yadda Gaines.  11/02 InsidersHoops: 'Probably the pure scorer in New York City in his class. He’s smooth getting to the rim and has gone on some big runs in traveling team basketball. A little on the short side at the shooting guard but he’s a high-major scorer and that’s not up for debate.'  1/03 Hoop Scoop # 33. 1/12/03 Keith Mason: 'On Friday a game that wasn't reported on by any of the newspapers, Rice took a trip to All Hallows, in more ways then one, as they fell to the Gaels by the score of 59-52. While the loss isn't good for Raiders, what happened during the game is much worse. Rice's star guard 6'2 Russell Robinson injured his back during the game, and there is no word if he will play in Sunday's game against Bishop Loughlin or Tuesday against St. Raymond. The loss of Robinson would be huge, as not only is he the team's best scorer, and one of the best scorers in the city, he is a lockdown defender. With Robinson Rice is one of the best teams in the nation, but without him they are just an average team, so they are hoping that it is nothing serious and he won't miss too much time.'  7/10/03 Daily News: Pals AJ Price & Russell Robinson may choose together. 7/29/03 Sports Illustrated: 'Probably the top pure scorer in New York City in the '04 class. He’s smooth getting to the rim and has gone on some big runs in traveling team basketball. A little on the short side for a shooting guard, but he’s a major scorer and that’s not up for debate.'

David McClure, 6-6 forward Trinity Catholic, Stamford, CT 10/14/02 John P Miciotta: 'Connecticut featured a fine quick point guard Torre Thomas and 6'6" junior forward Dave McClure, who is simply one of the best players in the class of 2004. He is an efficient and smart player who controls a game without trying to show off individual skill or athletic ability. His hands, head, nose for the ball and jump shot make him an elite player nationally. He's deceptively wide and strong in the lower half of his body which is why I have, perhaps hastily, labeled him a forward. Make no mistake though his skills are as good as those of any guard you will see.'  11/02 InsidersHoops: 'One of the savviest forwards in his class. The unofficial MVP of the 2002 Fall Charlie Weber Invitational in which he guided his team to one of the division title. McClure has range on his jumper. He’s just an average athlete, but a stud in terms of basketball IQ. Always around the ball making plays, diving on the floor or keeping possessions alive. 2002 ABCD All-Star game participant.'  1/03 Hoop Scoop # 72.   6/4/03 CtNow: Dave McClure Commits To Duke.  6/4/03 Stamford Advocate: Devil of a choice - Trinity Catholic's Dave McClure makes verbal commitment to Duke.  6/28/03 USA Basketball: ' 15 Minutes With ... David McClure.

AJ Price 5-11  guard Amityville, LI. 12/01 GB # 20. 5/02 JPM 'This is a great NYC class for point guards and AJ is probably second only to Sebastian. He is the son of Tony Price, a 6-4 forward from William Taft HS and a U Penn starter on the Chuck Daly led Final Four team of 1976. Yes, he's a shooting point guard. But he's also a tremendous passer, has a good handle and plays fast but under control. Like Daddy, he can score in traffic and has superior body control. Obviously, he's overshadowed by Sebastian.'

5-09-2002 Sabes Foundation Invitational Underclassmen Evaluations - Jeremy Tiers: '6-0 160 lbs. 1/2G Amityville (NY) Amityville, Riverside Church 16’s. Superb shooter from beyond the arc. Scored many of his points off the bounce and has an excellent first step. Good ball handling skills. Nice court vision. Threw some no look passes which looked like turnovers when they left his hand, but managed to get to their target. Struggled from the free-throw line. Scored 27 points his team’s championship loss to the Portland Legends. High major prospect.' 11/02 InsidersHoops: 'Teamed with Jason Fraser to win multiple state titles at Amityville. Is starting to grow into the position of shooting guard. We’ve seen him go on runs from downtown where he’s been lethal from 3-point range. Has plenty of skill and the game comes to him. Big time shooter who will attract the highest level of interest from Big East and ACC type schools.'   1/03 Hoop Scoop # 19. 7/29/03 Sports Illustrated: 'A.J. Price of the Riverside Church program not only has made the transition from shooting guard to point man, but he’s done it so well that he’s challenging some of the established PGs for supremacy in the top five at his position.'

Cedric Jackson 6'2 North Burlington HS 9/02 NJ Hoops # 2.  8/01 NJH NR  12/20/03 NJO: 'NJ # 1 shooting guard -- His importance was clarified when his team went 2-6 early in the season while he nursed a sprained ankle. When he returned, his electrifying moves and heady playmaking steered Northern Burlington into the South Jersey, Group 2 semifinals. The 6-2 Jackson will attend East Carolina.'   5/10/02 tbone 'Plays AAU with the TT Playaz.. another explosive guard that gets to the basket..(IE Vince Carter) but he's not on that level..(just trying to give you a feel for his game)..Will be a prospect to watch..High D-1. 11/02 InsidersHoops: 'Vince Carter Playaz standout swings back and forth between the guard position. Earned the nickname “Cedric The Entertainer” with his high school team. Nice athlete with good speed. Can really get to the rim. A dose of confidence and he’s in the Big East following his high school career.'  11/02  NJO: 'The 6-2 junior has been a prolific scorer since he broke into the lineup as a freshman. He has quickness and leaping ability but also is strong enough to take on forwards in the lane. Jackson was impressive in AAU and summer camp play last summer.'  1/03 Hoop Scoop # 138.

Joshua Wright Utica, NY 12/01 GB # 17  5/02 JPM 'Joshua was hyped big time early last year but he is not the second coming of either Stephon or Sebastian.  He is, however, a solid D1 point guard prospect who ranks only behind Sebastian, Devon, AJ, Dube and Ramon in this very talented point guard class. Josh is fundamentally sound in all aspects of play - he's quick, can shoot and can pass. He's also impressive off the court - firm handshake, speaks well and maintains eye contact.'   11/02 InsidersHoops: 'Strong little point guard has savvy for the position and presence at his position. Moonlights with the Long Island Panthers.'  1/03 Hoop Scoop # 73. 2/8/03 Padre4ever: 'Utica Proctor (NY) gets beat by Sec. 2 Colonie 66-62! Proctor has the states best player north of the city in PG Josh Wright (6'0" JR.) and I believe his team was undefeated before going to Colonie in a pre-sectional warm-up for both teams. Wright had a very good first half penetrating/creating, hitting 3's and bought the crowd to their feet with a thundeorus breakaway dunk, but he struggled big time in the second half because of a great defensive effort by Section 2's best coached (Doug Kilmer) team. Bottom line is that Proctor doesn't have much besides Wright, but his talent level is as high as anyone, and will pick any school (Syracuse probably the leader) he wants next fall. Besides Sebastian, I'm not sure that there's another point guard in the state that compares to him.'

Alex Galindo, 6-7 forward St. Benedict Prep, Newark, NJ   12/20/03 NJO: 'NJ # 3 small forward This 6-7 senior, like teammate Smith and St. Anthony's Williams, is difficult to classify. He's strong and industrious enough to warrant a high spot as a power forward, yet also fluid enough to make good grades at shooting guard. Whatever the position, just wish every St. Benedict's opponent good luck when defending the wings. He has committed to Texas-El Paso.'  9/02 NJ Hoops nr. 11/5/02  Prep Stars Top 25 Preseason Poll  # 2 team, St Benedict, NJ  'Keving Palacios went back to Venezuela, but Hurley brought over one of Palacios’ countrymen Alex Galindo, a skilled wing player who can shoot and pass.'  11/02 InsidersHoops: 'Really savvy player. Turned in an MVP performance as St. Benedict's captured 2002 Slam Dunk To The Beach title. Has a great feel, makes shots and passes well.'   12/31/02  InsidersHoops:  Alex Galindo and his St. Benedict's teammates claimed the championship at the 13th Slam Dunk To The Beach. Galindo was named the MVP of the event as the Gray Bees rallied to beat Archbishop Spalding. 1/03 Hoop Scoop # 78.

Gavin Grant 6-5 St Raymond, NY 12/01 GB # 11.  5/02 JPM 'Gavin is a perimeter, baseline, good defender with long arms and quick hands. He's got an ok shot but is more of a slasher, good finisher a la Julius Hodge.'  11/02 InsidersHoops: 'Super athlete on the perimeter. Remains to be seen if he can harness his jumper and improve his accuracy. Regardless, we love he uses his athleticism.'   1/03 Hoop Scoop # 52. 1/19/03 Coach Oliver Antigua: 'St. Raymond HS defeated Westbury Christian tonight 88-79. . Gavin Grant also played great with 20 pts and 7 rebs.

Marcus Williams 6'2 St. Anthony's, NJ.  12/20/03 NJO: 'NJ # 2 small forward. He will be a two-guard when he gets to college, and for all intents and purposes he already plays that position for coach Bob Hurley. But the 6-2 Williams is not afraid to roll up his sleeves on the glass and, besides, St. Anthony is well-equipped with other shooting guards. The senior has been a regular since his freshman year.'  9/02 NJ Hoops # 7. 8/01 NJH # 4. 5/02 JPM ''Love his game. Similar to Dwayne Wade of Marquette - agreat athlete who is also a great basketball player. Gets to the rim on both his explosiveness and on understanding the nuances of the game - movement off the ball, positioning, screens, backpicks, etc. Jump shot is average but figures to improve with added strength and maturity. A likely pro prospect.'    08/01 Metro Hoops: '# 4. Marcus may actually be the cream of the crop for the class of 2004. This kid has a combination of basketball skills that you don't frequently see in a sophomore. Last year played a major role on the State Championship squad.

Will be a an even more integral part of team this year! Marcus got a chance to go to the show as freshman. Where does he go from here! Back to the show coach Hurley hopes. Marcus plays above the rim, not just during lay-ups. Just ask a few of the kids he dunked on about that! Besides having mad hops, this kid is a very good defender,, and good ball handler. His only weakness may be his outside shooting, however it is adequate. Athletically he is in league of his own. Marcus will be the man at St. Anthony's when Eli and the boys graduate this year.'  11/02 InsidersHoops: Ranked but no bio. 11/02 NJO: 'The 6-2 junior really began his high school career as a guard as a freshman. But St. Anthony's surplus of talent at that position has made Williams far more valuable a little closer to the basket. He still can handle the ball with the floor extended and may be called upon to do so at times.'  1/03 Hoop Scoop # 88. 7/24/03 Rating St Anthony's undervalued guard, Marcus Williams.

Adrian Joseph 6-8 forward Bergen Catholic NJ.  9/02 NJ Hoops # 18 as a senior. 11/02 InsidersHoops: 'Long, lean forward. Has bounce to his game and will play above the rim. We like how hard he’ll play. Looks like a mid-major power forward heading into his junior season.'  11/02 NJO: 'The 6-6 Joseph does a very good job of gliding through the lane for rebounds and defending on the wing. He was pivotal to Bergen Catholic's run to the Parochial A title last season, scoring a combined 25 points in its first two playoff games.' 1/03 Hoop Scoop # 62.  2/5/03 NJO: Bergen Catholic 97, Paterson Eastside 56:  Joe Sandberg scored 23 points to reach 1,000 for his career and teammate Adrian Joseph sank 30 points for No. 5 Bergen Catholic in Paterson.

Brian Laing 6-4, St Raymond, NY 12/01 GB # 8.  5/02 JPM 'Brian is a burly, undersized post player in the mold of former Raven, Chris McRae. He's a warrior, a shot blocker because of his good timing; he's tough, relentless and has a stolid, unruffled demeanor on the court. Brian needs to improve his perimeter skills to succeed on the next level.'   11/02 InsidersHoops: 'Could find himself as the centerpiece for the NY Ravens heading into his senior year. Was on the Ravens Big Time championship team in 2002. Laing is a bouncy athlete who could wind up playing the small forward or maybe the shooting guard role.'  12/16/02 Daily News: Tariq Atkins, Brian Laing lead St. Ray's vs. Molloy.  1/03 Hoop Scoop # 62. 1/19/03 Coach Oliver Antigua: 'St. Raymond HS defeated Westbury Christian tonight 88-79. Brian Laing continues his dominating performance with a 22 pt, 5 reb effort.

Courtney Nelson 6-1 guard Bloomfield Tech, NJ   9/02 NJ Hoops # 3. 8/01 NJH # 9.12/20/03 NJO: 'NJ # 1 point guard The 6-1 senior guided Bloomfield Tech to the Group 1 state championship and, surprisingly, into the semifinals of the NJSIAA Tournament of Champions last season. He is perfectly happy to set tempo and provide excellent backcourt defense, but also very capable of taking control of a game when necessary. Nelson has committed to Richmond.'  5/15/02 All Star Report: Southern Invitational Recap -- The Playaz were led by All-Tourney selection Courtney Nelson who was fantastic in the final game, leading his team to within a point of the title with 35 points.'  6/01 Metro Hoops: 'This kid is Nice! I've been watching Courtney play since he was in the 5th grade. Courtney has unlimited potential. He is natural point guard who sees the game in slow motion. He often knows his teammates are open before they do. In addition, to his great passing skills Courtney possesses an array of offensive skills. Needs to improve defensively. What great offensive player doesn't? He is definitely one of the top 5 freshman in NJ, and top 10 in the Metro area. Don't look for this kid at JV games, he's strictly varsity!'  7/01  Courtney and fellow soph, Dashawn Dwight started for Bloomfield Tech at the Metro Classic. There were four other four other sophs on that roster:  6-5 Richard Lauent,  6-0 Lamarr Register,  6-1 Andy Jemenez and 6-0 Ashton Thomas.   11/02 InsidersHoops: ' In the guard rotation for the Vince Carter Playaz. Starting to consistently make his 3-point shots and that’s a big key to his success. Has a nice feel and willing defender at the point.'  11/02  NJO: 'The 6-1 junior distributes the ball freely but also understands when it is time to take his man off the dribble and makes things happen. Nelson, who averaged 16.9 points, had some of his best scoring games last season against the stiffest competition. He and teammate DaShawn Dwight are basically interchangeable at the guard spots.'  12/28/02 InsidersHoops: Slam Spotlight - Courtney Nelson1/03 Hoop Scoop # 111.  7/10/03 NJO: Courtney Nelson forced to focus.  7/21/03 NJO: Bloomfield Tech's Courtney Nelson picks Richmond.

Jermaine Bell, 6-11 center, The Pendleton School Bradenton, FL 3/03 GB # 3 11/02 InsidersHoops: 'Native of New York was scheduled to play 2001-02 season at Oak Hill but opted for Coastal Christian instead where he missed half the season with a foot injury. Loads of potential as an athletic shot blocker but needs to play with more fire and must add strength and weight to his frame.'

Joakim Noah 6-10 center Lawrenceville, NJ.  12/20/03 NJO: 'NJ # 1 center The 6-10 senior transfer from New York's Poly Prep comes off an outstanding summer. He has thickened up considerably since last season, has developed much more confidence with the ball in his hands and more desire to go after it when it's not. Noah has committed to Florida.' 1/23/03 Daily News: Horace Mann stifles Joakim Noah, Poly Prep.  6/5/03 ESPN: Different net gains for a different Noah.  7/12/03 NY Post: Joakim Noah Shines in the Spotlight.  7/30/03 InsidersHoops: 6-10 Joakim Noah is getting elite major looks as a result of his July performance.

Taj Finger, 6-8 forward Fox Lane HS Bedford, NY  3/24/02 Dassoc: 'Westchester Hawks 16u team This years roster includes Taj Finger SF, (Fox Lane, HS).   9/29/02 John P Miciotta: 'The second Playaz' big kid was 6'8" junior Taj Finger of Fairlawn (NJ) High in . He has some work to do in the weight room, but runs the floor well and has a great knack for shot blocking.'  11/02 InsidersHoops: 'Could be a breakout player. He’s got plenty of athleticism and every now and then uses it to really impress. He’s got good size and he looks a little like a late bloomer basketball wise. Could be a guy who makes someone really happy after he signs.'

Sundiata (Yata) Gaines  6-0, shooting guard, Queens, NY. 12/01 GB # 5  5/02 JPM 'Yata is the best scoring guard in this class and the best low post guard this side of Tim Hardaway. He's built like a tank and even at 6-0 can be a two guard at the highest level. His strength and explosiveness serve him well on defense as well as offense. However Yatta is a two guard, not a point guard.'  11/99 Yadda played for the Gauchos A, 13 and under team with Ronald Ramon and Russell Robinson for their Fall Roundball Classic averaging 12.4 ppg.   1/29/00  IS8 Jumpman Winter League play began today.  The Gauchos trounced the Springfiled Rifle 76 - 36 with starters Russ Robinson,  Ronald Ramon,  Yata Gaines and Terrell Elliston leading the way.  11/02 InsidersHoops: 'Big reputation coming out of New York. Gaines is probably best suited to play the scoring guard role but could find himself playing the point down the road. Driving to the rim seems like his best quality on offense.'   1/03 Hoop Scoop # 117.

Jonathan Hart 6-6 forward Roselle, NJ    4/22/04 John P Miciotta: 'Jonothan Hart, the athletic wing from Abraham Clark High in Roselle New Jersey has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for coach Bill Herrion at East Carolina University. The 6'6" forward gives the Pirates a versatile forward who will lend a hand on the boards and score on the break. His signing marks the third time in less than two seasons that coach Herrion has tapped players from our region to help his building program compete in Conference USA. Hart joins former Christ the King point guard Japhet McNeil, who led the Pirates in assists and steals as a freshman, as well as New York native Mike Castro, who will play for the Pirates next year after a fine career at Allegany (MD) JC'

ECU Pirates.com: Jonathan Hart Signs National Letter Of Intent With ECU.

12/20/03 NJO: 'NJ # 2 power forward -- He was a center as a freshman and sophomore, often a swing last season, and Hart even stepped to the perimeter to play guard more than a few times last summer. Point is, the 6-6 senior is dangerous from almost anywhere on the floor and he is proficient in all areas.'  9/02 NJ Hoops # 10. 08/01 Metro Hoops: '# 10. Yo this kid was the talk of the Freshman Showcase Camp. "J" has major hops, which makes him seem like he's 6-7, rather than 6-4. He was tossing shots all day long. At 6-4 and long arms Jonathan plays above the Rim. He won the Dunk Contest with spectacular Dunk, he jumped over Plainfield High 5-6 Mike Gordon and finished with a sweet one hand dunk. It was no doubt who won the dunk contest after that. This kids has skills. He's a great athlete. Needs to work on ball handling/outside shooting.'  11/02 NJO: 'He was unusually steady as a sophomore last season, both as a low-post force in the half-court offense and a trusted accessory in Roselle's fast break. Hart, 6-5 and light on his feet, should be one of Union County's top shot blockers this season.' 1/03 Hoop Scoop # 207.9/29/02 John P Miciotta: 'Long and athletic player who rebouds from the wing and gets out on the break. He needs for his effort and intensity to be more consistant. OK shooter who sometimes doesn't take good shots. Mid-major recruit.'

Devon Moffatt 6-1 guard St Patrick, NJ # 5/   9/02 NJ Hoops # 8. 02 Den: 'More of a scoring than passing point guard, but on his weak Clifton team Devon is required to do it all. He's the equal of all the NYC points (AJ, Ronald and Dube) except for Sebastian. Prep Stars had him ranked nationally as # 23 and behind only Sebastian in this region last winter.'  08/01 Metro Hoops: '# 2.You just don't score 500+ points in your freshman year by luck. Devon nationally was one of the top freshman scorers in the country last season. He is consistently ranked as one the top 50 sophomores in the country by most scouting services. He's on pace for a 2000 points in his high school career. He also broke the school 3-point record by dropping 62 3-pointers. Yes "62". Don't sleep on Devon's skills, he has the total package, not only does he have a serious jump shot, but also at 6-1 he has mad hops! Devon still needs to work on his in-between game.'   7/01  Devon started and starred for Clifton as their off guard at the Metro Classic.  12/30/00  BRO:  Passaic Valley -- Freshman Devon Moffatt continued to produce, scoring a team-high 22 points to guide Clifton to an 82-69 consolation victory over Hanover Park.  11/02 InsidersHoops: 'Has a nice reputation in the state of New Jersey. Probably a mid-major player who can score. Like him more as a shooting guard.'  11/02 NJO: 'More of a combination guard, Moffat used his dribble penetration and scoring ability to earn Second Team All-Passaic honors last season. Opponents usually found it necessary to double-team Moffat whenever possible, but he still managed to connect.'  1/03 Hoop Scoop # 191.  2/7/03 NJ Hoops: Clifton junior Devon Moffat has transferred to powerhouse St. Patrick's.  2/8/03 NorthJersey: The Moffatt Show no more.  Make no mistake, Devon Moffatt move was for hoops.  2/7/03 LFBALL: 'Devon Moffatt Transfers -- First of all, why? Where does it stop? I still remember the Clifton coach bringing Moffat into NYC seeking exposure for the kid last summer. How many players does St. Pats need? I know they are a fine program but Mr. Moffatt will soon find out the difference between being a big fish in a small pond with a caring coach and support group than being a little fish in an ocean with a coach who has to be everything to 13 kids who think they are future HS all americans. The saga continues!'   2/8/03  Don Handel: 'Response to LFBALL on Moffat to St Pats -- Whats wrong with this? Have you ever seen Clifton high school? 3500+ kids in a school who's athletic programs stink. It's the 2nd largest school in NJ, after Elizabeth. The kid, academically, can get lost in the shuffle. St Pats, as you can see with Caracter, won't take any crap. Maybe Devon wasn't on pace to qualify for College. I'm sure he's going to get his head in the books now, he has too. Why be mad about a kid bettering himself. You made a comment that he's leaving a caring coach and will have to have a coach who is everything to 13 kids? Doesn't Vasil care about the all 13 kids he has? Or does he just care about Moffatt? You imply in that statement that Boyle doesn't care about all his players ? Why because so many of them are real good? This is America and if a player and his family want him to have a better chance at bettering himself, then he has the right. Why look as this as a problem? If the kid has aspirations to play in the Big East or ACC, do you think he has a better shot playing for Clifton? Or St Pats? It's a no brainer.'

Brian Geffen 5-9, guard St. Francis NYC.  12/01 GB # 53  5/02 JPM 'Brian is a terrific, if undersized, point guard who is a dead eye shooter, a good passer and a half court player willing to fight on defense though limited by his lack of size. Opponents do not often drive past Brian. He can be a D1 player though his size will be a legitimate concern. He is a tough smart point guard who can knock down shots and make plays. For St. Francis he handles well against double and triple teams and does so effectively. Will be a solid D-1 prospect when he's a senior.'  1/03 Hoop Scoop # 285. 1/7/03 NY Post: This Terrier's Spit-ball -- Bryan Geffin.

3/03 Bryan finishes the CHSAA season with a 21.3 scoring average, third best in the league behind Chris Taft and Sundiata Gaines.

Mark Aziz 6-6 St Benedict Prep  9/02 NJ Hoops # 24.   8/01 NJH # 24.  5/10/02 tbone 'Mark 6'6 Plays AAU witht the Playaz. May still be at Seton Hall Prep. Shot blocker and low post scorer.'  11/02 InsidersHoops: 'One of those guys who will get watched by programs as a junior. Has a great body and nice size but has yet to show exactly what level a player he’ll be in college.'

David Whitehurst 6-3  Lawrenceville NJ   12/20/03 NJO: 'NJ # 3 shooting guard -- He helped resuscitate the program at Monmouth Regional with his scoring ability and has done the same for Lawrenceville. The 6-2 senior, headed for Penn, always was difficult to manage off the dribble. Now he also shoots 3-pointers with confidence.'  9/02 NJ Hoops # 6. 8/01 NJH # 5. 5/10/02 tbone 'David plays AAU with the Cyclones. He is a very explosive and agressive scorer; takes it to the basket with a passion that's not taught.  Prospect to watch. Mid to High D-1'.   08/01 Metro Hoops: '# 7. David is the real deal! The 6-2 2/3 guard is what many coaches would refer to him as a slasher. David got some hops Too! Maybe that's why he has tendency to block a couple of shots a game. The few times that I saw him play, I was really impressed with his defensive presense. He really puts some real heat on whoever he defends. Yo, I know I have hyped up his defensive abilities however, don't sleep on his offense, he can put some numbers up too! This kid is mad quick! Yo! David is also an All-State performer in track and field. David is consistently ranked as one of the top 100 sophomores by most scouting services.'  11/02 NJO: 'As a sophomore last season, Whitehurst was central to Monmouth Regional's 20-5 season with his outside shooting ability. He transferred during the summer and already has made an impact for Lawrenceville with his range and poise.'  1/03 Hoop Scoop # 242. 1/13/03 PrepStars Top 20 National Prep Poll has # 14. Lawrenceville (Lawrenceville, N.J.)  Notes: Senior Mykhael Lattimore scored 24 points and junior David Whitehurst, who is averaging 17 points per game, added 17 in a win over Woodbury Forest. Whitehust was the MVP of the Peddie Tournament.   9/5/03 John P Miciotta: 'His quickness and athleticism make him a mid-to high major prospect. He guards both the point and wing positions very well with ability to pressure the ball and get in the passing lane. Finishes with dunks in transition, and looks for his shot first, so offensively he plays more like an off guard.'

Ronald Ramon 6-0 forward, NYC. 12/01 GB # 10  5/02 JPM 'A wonderful kid. He's a scoring point guard but he's not selfish. He's got a good mid-range game, quick hands and plays a smart game. He plays tough defense and is coachable. If incoming sophomore, Codi Oliver, eventually takes over the point, Ronald will move to the two spot. While RR will be the team's best scoring option and is a scorer first, he's recruitable as a point guard because the one role he's willing to accept is leadership.'  11/99 Ronald played for the Gauchos A, 13 and under team with Sundiata Gaines and Russell Robinson for their Fall Roundball Classic averaging 14.4 ppg.  1/29/00  IS8 Jumpman Winter League Gauchos are led by terrific trio of Russ Robinson,  Ronald Ramon and Yadda Gaines.  11/02 InsidersHoops: 'In reality, he’s a shooting guard in a point guard’s body. Prior to his junior season, he showcased a fine game from the two guard slot. Has a great compact stroke with 3-point range. Gets his shot off quickly and efficiently.'  1/03 Hoop Scoop # 124.

DaShawn Dwight 6-0, Bloomfield Tech, NJ   12/20/03 NJO: 'NJ # 5 shooting guard -- The 6-1 guard is the perfect backcourt complement to point guard Courtney Nelson and fellow two-guard Jamar Wilson. He shoots 3-pointers well enough to discourage opponents from playing zone, which gives the team's speedy backcourt the man matchups it desires. Dwight also handles the ball well enough to keep double teams away from Nelson.'  9/02 NJ Hoops # 12. 8/01 NJH # 20. 5/10/02 tbone 'Plays AAU with the Road Runners. Will emerge to stand side by side with Courtney Nelson this year - very explosive player.'     8/01 Metro Hoops: '# 10. Dashawn is the real deal! Yo! this kid can flat out put the rock in the hole. He has the whole package he can score from the outside, beat you off the dribble, and don't sleep on his passing cause he can do that to! As a freshman dropped 250+ points. He also "Ripped it up" with his AAU team with a 22 ppg average! He is solid defender, he usually draws the toughest defensive assignment. Saw him go toe-to-toe with super junior Marquise Webb at the Metro! "Day" did not back down. Could possibly be a high major if he works on his ball handling and strength/conditioning!.  10/10/00  Glenn Bynes: 'I have a little information on Dashawn Dwight. I watched him play the past 2 years for the Newark AAU team. This kid is really talented. He makes his shots, he makes his free throws, and he hustles the entire game. He has good size. The part of his game that he needs to work on to become more successful is his speed, his dribbling, and his defense. But then again how many freshman are equipped with those skills. I think he'll be a successful shooting guard. If he works on his speed and dribbling he can play both guard positions. I don't know about his academics, but he has D1 potential.'   11/02 InsidersHoops: 'Shooter extraordinaire. Dwight's got point guard size but appears to have a shooter's mentality and stroke. Not afraid to take the big shots either.'   11/02 NJO: 'The 6-1 junior hooks up with classmate Courtney Nelson to create one of the best non-senior backcourts in New Jersey. Dwight has decent range on his jumper, a quick first step off the dribble and a knack for creating layups off turnovers, /03 Hoop Scoop # 295. 9/5/03 John P Miciotta: 'Also a part of that great trio that includes Jay Wilson and Courtney Nelson. He's the one who directs the attack and gets his team in an offense. Although he plays the point his catch and shoot game is also good when Nelson or Wilson penetrate from the wing or when 6'9" soph Casim Drummond kicks the ball out from the post. Solid on-ball defender also. Very good mid major prospect.'

Brett Johnson 6-3 forward, Shawnee NJ.  9/02 NJ Hoops # 17. 8/01 NJH # 7.  08/01 Metro Hoops: '# 5. I have not see him play much last year, however I did see him do his thing during the State Tournament. Hey this kid did not play like freshman throughout the state tournament. Played like a senior. Has a great understanding of the game.'  11/02 InsidersHoops: Ranked but now bio.

Jordan Fowler 6-4 guard Montclair, NJ 12/20/03 NJO: 'NJ # 8 shooting guard -- He has always been a dangerous 3-point shooter when he's had time. The 6-3 senior drained his share of them last season, but also made progress as a slasher, passer and a defensive rebounder.'  9/02 NJ Hoops # 11. 11/02 InsidersHoops: Ranked but now bio. 1/03 Hoop Scoop # 252.

Chris Alvarez 6-8 Blair Academy, NJ   12/20/03 NJO: 'NJ # 8 power forward -- The 6-8 senior had no choice but to be a complementary figure last season amid the likes of Duke star Luol Deng and UConn's Charlie Villanueva. The Dayton-bound Alvarez now gets to perform under the spotlight.'  9/02 NJ Hoops # 14. 9/5/03 John P Miciotta: 'Miami native who prepped here last year and returns for his senior year. In limited duty last year backing up All-Americans Deng and Villenueva, he showed good ability to run the floor and decent hands. Limited time also meant he did not get a chance to show much offensively. Likely D-I recruit because of those raw skills, what he does with increased minutes now that the two A-A's have moved on will determine at what level he should be recruited.'

Benedict Nwachukwu 6-8 forward, St Augustine NJ.  12/20/03 NJO: 'NJ # 3 center Guard Mark Porter does a good job of finding the 6-8 senior inside, and Nwachukwu usually responds with something positive: a basket underneath, a trip to the foul line or a kickout to guard Anthony Farmer. Nwachukwu averaged almost 14 ppg. last season.'  9/02 NJ Hoops # 5. 11/02 InsidersHoops: 'Big time student athlete prospect. At the 2002 Weber Fall Invitational, he was a driving force for the Penn Jersey Panthers. He’s got a competitive streak in him that we like. He bangs and battles. Good looking prospect that gets mid-major and higher looks.'  1/03 Hoop Scoop # 181.

Keith Benjamin 6-1 guard Mt Vernon, NY. 1/23/03 Journal News: 'Mount Vernon 102, Roosevelt 52: At Mount Vernon, Keith Benjamin had 16 of his game-high 28 points in the second quarter as the 13-0 Knights scored at least 100 points for the sixth time this season.'  7/19/03 Philly.com: 'Nova in running for N.Y. player, Keith Benjamin.   7/22/03 Philly.com: Villanova gets early promise by N.Y. guard, Keith Benjamin. 7/22/03 The Journal News: Benjamin picks Villanova. Greg (PlayStation) Johnson 5-10,  guard.St Thomas Moore, Ct.  12/01 GB # NR.   5/02 JPM 'Playstation is well named in that he has quick hands. He is a marvelous man to man, press defender with wiry strength. Offensively he's weaker; both his shooting and passing need to improve.'  9/5/03 John P Miciotta: 'I have finally gotten to see him play a bit more this summer and have been impressed by his improved offensive play and trademark tough defense. His shooting, passing and quickness are all high major caliber. The one change he needs to make, if I may borrow a baseball axiom, is to become more of a pitcher and less of a thrower. He plays at one speed all the time and it's ultra fast, and there are times during a game when that's not what's needed. If he can learn that part of being a point guard he has the tools to be an elite one at the college level.'

Taj Gibson, 6-7 forward Telecommunication HS, NY. 6/28/03 Taj Gibson (pictured) is the 6-7 Gauchos forward currently enrolled at Telecommunications High. He's considering transferring to Rice for next season. Taj has not made any D1 lists yet and didn't play for Telecommunications last season. But his stock is rising as a starter for the Gauchos.and his play earlier this spring with the Juice All Stars. 9/5/03 John P Miciotta: 'Clearly Taj does not play for one of the city's traditional high school powers but his play this summer with the Gauchos established him as one of the city's most improved players and a solid mid major prospect. He's reed thin but runs the floor extremely well. Early in his career he was a kid who seemingly got his hands on every rebound but did not have the balance or timing to secure many.

Now, through hard work and the normal maturity that comes with age he has improved to the point where he can get those rebounds and get the ball back up to the basket. And with improved footwork, he shows the beginnings of a nice low post game as well. His thin frame likely makes him not recruitable by high majors as a power forward but all mid major programs should look long and hard at Taj, because he has quickness runs the floor with purpose and may well end up being the kind of kid who plays his best basketball in college.'

Frank Elgar 6'8" PF/C St. Raymond's HS (Bronx) Agile and bouncy big man who gets better every time you see him. Runs the floor extremely well and has a knack for getting offensive rebounds. Really quick off his feet and that gives him shot blocking potential in help defense situations when he has space to maneuver. His athleticism likely makes him recruitable by mid majors even though his game is still developing. Keep in mind that he will not turn 17 until after the school year begins so there's probably lots of upside. If he can develop a go to move in the post, look out. That plus improved strength are the things he needs to get better.

Jon Ezeokoli 6'3" SG St. Benedict's Prep (NJ) He is the unheralded senior on a team that features two senior All-Americans and a bunch of talented underclassmen. There's no mistaking his importance to the team however. He's a terrific shooter who gets his shots within the offense by moving without the ball. Also strokes it with confidence in transition from three point distance. Quick, long armed and tenacious defender. Solid mid-major prospect who might draw high major looks.

Brian Beckford 6-6 forward CTK, NY 12/01 GB # 7  5/02 JPM 'Brian is like teammate Justin Marshall, he has the size, athletic ability, long arms, legs and an even bigger upside than Justin. Brian was on the JV last year improving his game. He's developed some post moves and has a knack for rebounding. After some early academic missteps freshman year, his grades have improved. On the court all that is now needed is confidence and experience at the varsity level. Brian should be a part of the full CTK arsenal this coming year.'

John Oates 6-9, forward Don Bosco Prep, NJ  12/20/03 NJO: 'NJ # 4 center -- Though always considered a hard worker, the 6-10 senior played a small role last season in the scoring department. He will certainly be called upon to be more active with the ball this season and should be equal to the task.'  9/02 NJ Hoops # 9. 8/01 NJH # 3  12/01 GB # 9. 08/01 Metro Hoops: '#  3  At 6-8 John is steadily becoming a solid player. He has some good hands and decent range from the outside. Many were impressed with how fluid he looked on the court. He has a good understanding of the game. Watch out New Jersey? John will be a force to deal with over the next three years, especially as he becomes stronger. We love his game. John is consistently ranked as one of the top sophomores in the country.'  7/4/01 The Times Record: John Oates won't get puffed up by accolades. 4/27/01 The Times Record: Growing taller, John Oates steps up.   8/19/00  UDC 2000 - Neither Church team figures to stay with the 'chos guards tomorrow but both teams do have height : 6-5 Tyrell Briggs, 6-5 Arturo Dubois for the A team and 6-8 John Oates and 6-4 Josh Cohen for the B.

5-09-2002 Sabes Foundation Invitational Underclassmen Evaluations - Jeremy Tiers: '6-9 230 lbs. C Ramsey (NJ) Don Boscoe Prep, Riverside Church 16’s. Not the quickest guy down the floor. Nice size. Struggled finishing plays around the hoop. Works hard and rebounds well. Scores more in half court setting. Didn’t look to shoot once in the two games we witnessed. Mid to high major prospect.'    1/03 Hoop Scoop # 171.  2/4/03 Times Herald Record: A reserve at Don Bosco Prep, John Oates, a 6-10 junior forward from Harriman, has attracted great interest from top Division I colleges.  7/13/03 NJO: John Oates is eager to go on the offensive for Don Bosco Prep.

Dexter Gray 6-6 forward Mt Vernon NY.   12/30/03 Lonnie Webb: 'Dexter Gray of  nationally ranked Mt. Vernon, NY deserves  much more publicity then he's had in the past and I'm certain a lot more college coaches took notice over the past two weeks.  He is a very good Division 1 prospect.  He has played against some very good  national teams and big men thus far in Oak Hill Academy (VA), Montrose Christian (MD), Fairley, (TN),  and Hillcrest (AL), etc.   He's held his own against some very good "big men".  In the first half of the Slam Dunk at the Beach he held D.J. White of  Hillcrest (AL) scoreless. This isn't  anything new  about Dexter Gray.  He consistently and simply  just about shuts down the opposing teams big men and has been doing it for quite sometime.   He has played superb in both the Iolani Prep Classic and Slam Dunk at the Beach and has no doubt made some more  programs take notice.   This writer knows that he's been doing this consistently over the last 3 years.   He's well deserving of all those programs that will "now" come swarming after him.  Congratulations Dexter Gray for all your hard work --- you've  earned it!

1/20/03 Padre4ever: 'Mt. Vernon held on for another close win! The Knights were led again by their underrated big man, Dexter Gray, and nipped the host Cadets 70-67 in the finals of the Jimmy V. Arturo (Boo) Dubois 6-6,  Rice, NYC.  12/01 GB # 6. 5/02 JPM ''Wide body with good hands, big wing span and soft touch around the basket. He's an athletic Wendell Gibson who runs well but tires late in games. He needs to improve his conditioning and left hand near the rim. He's not a great leaper but he's quick.'   8/21/99 At Riverbank the Riverside Church biddies got off to an 8 - 3 start against Brooklyn USA when Brooklyn's coach Tom "Ziggy" Sicignano was hit with a technical. By midway in the fourth quarter the Church's star, Terrell Biggs (16 points), fouled out and USA took their first lead. They won 59 - 57 with MVP, Amadou Fall, scoring 22 points. James Walker and Eugene Harvey had 12 and 8 points for the winner, while Arturo (Boo) Dubois and Ronnie Lewis had 12 and 8 for the Church.

11/02 InsidersHoops: 'Arturo plays for the famed Riverside Church program. Part of numerous 16-and-under tournament champions. Appears to have offense. Height might limit his recruitment to the mid-major level but he can be a player.' 1/03 Hoop Scoop # 212.

Dwayne (Dube) Johnson 5-9,  Cardoza NY. 12/01 GB # 14. 5/02 JPM ''Dube is a tremendous, ultra quick, under control, pass first point guard. Next to Sebastian he's the best on the man, press defense point guard in the class. Plus, he can shoot.'  1/03 Hoop Scoop # 258.

Lamar Alston 6-2 St. Anthony's, NJ  12/20/03 NJO: 'NJ # 7 small forward-- Like teammate Otis Campbell, he could have been listed at shooting guard. Yo! I saw this kid play about a year ago when he played AAU ball! He's got game. He has a nice perimeter shot, can score facing the basket, and he can score off the dribble. Lamar is a natural 2 or 3 guard. Last year he had a solid year for Marist, however he has made the move over to the big time - St. Anthony's! He should see some serious minutes this year. He will also be ready to move into the starting lineup next year when Eli and the boys graduate.'   1/03 Hoop Scoop # 158.  2/15/03 NJO: Terrence Roberts scored 20 points and Lamar Alston and Barney Anderson led a decisive second-quarter run as St. Anthony, No. 2 in The Star-Ledger Top 20, registered an 89-38 victory over Highland Park last night in Jersey City.

Albert Fisher 5-11 guard Pennsauken NJ. 12/20/03 NJO: 'NJ # 2 point guard -- He was the driving force of a junior-oriented team that reached the South Jersey, Group 4 tournament after a losing season in 2001-02. The 6-1 Fisher, headed for James Madison, averaged 25.2 ppg. as a junior and yet still incorporated his teammates into the mix.'   9/02 NJ Hoops # 19. 1/03 Hoop Scoop # 261.

Albert Forbes 6-4,  forward All Hallows, Bronx.  12/01 GB # 27. 5/02 JPM 'Albert is a 6-4 wide body good post up player who is improving his face up game. He's missed some time due to academics, but he comes from a nice family and that looks to be corrected.'  11/02 InsidersHoops: Ranked but no bio. 1/03 Hoop Scoop # 273.

Phil Murphy 6-5, Flushing NY. 12/01 GB # 16 5/02 JPM 'Phil is currently attending Flushing High school after an eventful year at Christ the King. He was already physically mature entering high school so it's debateable whether there's room for much growth. He often forces the action and plays out of control. Academics may continue to be an issue, but he may be a low to mid D1 prospect.'  11/99  Phil played for Elmcor, 13 and under team for the Gauchos Fall Roundball Classic averaging 10.3 ppg.  1/28/00:  Real Scout: 'I have been getting a lot of messages about the number one player in the eighth grade 6-3 shooting guard Phillip Murphy. He's also playing in I.S.8 today Jan 29th at 12:45. So, come and you'll see one of the top players in the city ... .trust me Yada is great but he won't be 6-7 his soph year. With Murphy's touch.'  1/03 Hoop Scoop # 275.

John Dixon 6-4 forward St Joes, Metuchen, NJ    9/02 NJ Hoops # 22.  8/01 NJH # 18 5/10/02 tbone '(No longer goes by the nick name of Taps, its Just JD).   6'5 Wing player that averaged 11 pts and 7 boards for St.Josephs HS last year Big scoring abilities on the post as well as behind the arch. Plays AAU with the NJ Wildcats.  (Nike Jr Camp Player).'  8/01 Metro Hoops Best of the Rest (after top 10).  2/00: John is playing with Riverside Church at the Winter IS8 midget level with Nick Carter, Kevin Winter and Tyrell Biggs.  In his first game he was called for walking almost every time he touched the ball.  Pete Edwards nicknamed him 'Taps' as in tap dancing.  Since that game John has played very well and become the primary Church target inside.  9/9/00   ICA Supastar:  'John Dixon's going to St. Joe's (Metuchen).'

Chakris McBrown 5-10, guard LI Lutheran. 12/01 GB # 19. 9/21/00  LevelEdge.com:  Chakiris McBrown - Long Island Lutheran Hifh School.

Wesley Wicks 5-8 guard St Raymond, NY. 12/01 GB # 24.  7/9/00  At one point early in the third quarter the 80 Park midgets (14 under) led Huntington 40 - 20.  They held on for a 54 - 49 victory.  In the second game the NY Skyriders led throughout for a 33 - 24 win over the Renaissance Warriors.  Wesley Wicks,  Gavin Grant and Roderick Taylor had 7, 7 and 6 for the winners. 1/19/03 Coach Oliver Antigua: 'St. Raymond HS defeated Westbury Christian tonight 88-79.  Wesley Wicks had his best game as a varsity player playing major minutes and running the show.

Tyshawn Bierra 6-3 Newton, NY 12/01 GB # 26.  5/02 JPM 'Tyshawn is a mid-range offensive two guard talent with a pretty jump stop shot. He's an average defender who needs to be smarter offensively (moving without the ball, setting and getting picks) and defensively (positioning and no silly fouls). He's a D1 prospect and part of CTK's deep squad for next season.'  1/22/03 NY Post: Tyshawn Bierria Found Home at Newtown.

Terrance Portis 6-3, Xaverian NY.  12/01 GB # 25 7/19/03 John P Miciotta: 'Terrence Portis was stellar in all three games. He not only made shots and defended but used better judgment with respect to shot selection.'  5/02 JPM 'Terrence is an undersized three who projects to a low to mid major in college. On a good championship JV team he was the tough one. He's got an ok shot to 15 feet and is effective near the basket offensively and defensively. He can defend both the 2 and 3 positions.'   5/7/02 John P Miciotta: 'Game 4 saw Sonday Express II handle the B-ballers easily as the back court of CK's Chris Martin and Xaverian's Terrence Portis shot lights out from three point land. If Portis' outside shot continues to improve, combined with the toughness and ability to defend that have always been hallmarks of his game, he may well draw looks from high majors a year from now.'  5/21/00 Brooklyn Scout:  '8th Grade - Brooklyn 62 Albany 45 - Telfair ended with a game-high 17 points with Terrance Portis  contributing 12 points, 8 in the second half.' 5/21/00  John P. Miciotta:   'Upstate downstate challenge plus news and notes. Terrance Portis, a 6'2" player from Brooklyn's IS 292 showed a great crossover, good expressiveness and a versatile "inside out" game in helping augment the usual fine play of Telfair. According to Brooklyn USA Director Tom Sicignano this youngster has played very little organized basketball and it showed at times with mistakes especially on defense. But as the game moved along and his confidence seemed to grow his athletic skills fine shooting touch and even the beginnings of a nice floor game, began to show themselves. He made three, drove to the basket, had two put backs for scores and even threw a perfect two handed chest pass to teammate Dion Mozelle for a lay-up.' 1/03 Hoop Scoop # 278.

Garfield Johns 6-2 forward Wings Academy, NY. 12/01 GB # 22. 5/02 JPM 'Willie Howie All Star player does many things well. He's thin but a good shooter, a defender and he plays hard all the time with a moxie to his game. At Wings he plays inside more. He's D1 for sure but not yet certain of the level.'  1/23/03 Coach Tony Bergeron, Wings Academy: 'Wings finished up the regular season as PSAL Bronx B division champs with a 16-2 conference record. I would also like to congratulate Garfield Johns on scoring his 1000th point tonite vs. Morris HS. Garfield is averaging 26 points per game this season and has really improved his overall game since the summer. Garfield will probably take the prep route next year but has not closed the door on JUCO either. Wherever he ends up Division 1 coaches will follow because he has become a big time shooter and scorer and has learned to play a nice brand of man-to-man defense as well.' 2/5/03 Newsday: Wings' Garfield Johns: All-American Works Wonders.  2/5/03 USA Today: Garfield Johns of Wings (Bronx, N.Y.) scored 55 points in a 104-97 victory over Gompers (Bronx).

Carlos Collazo 6-0 guard, Boys & Girls, NY 12/01 GB # 29.   5/02 JPM 'Carlos is a combo guard who figures to team with soph to be, Eugene Harvey to form an impressive PSAL backcourt next season. Carlos is not athletically gifted but he has a great nose for the ball and a fine knack for getting to long rebounds. He's a solid shooter when open and better as a help defender than straight up man defense. He can be a low D1 with continued work.' 5/7/02 John P Miciotta:  The day's final game saw Amadou Fall and Carlos Collazo of Boys High lead Rebel to a narrow victory over the Queens Cobras. Collazo is clearly developing into a terrific all purpose guard. He shot very well, passed smartly and rebounded very well.'

Otis Campbell St Anthony NJ  12/20/03 NJO: 'NJ # 4 shooting guard -- He doesn't often show the shooting range of a top two-guard, but all the other jobs he performs quickly make you forget about distance. He's strong with the ball, both driving into the lane and grabbing it away from forwards under the glass. The 6-2 senior can defend 6-6 forwards just as well as 5-7 guards.'  9/02 NJ Hoops # 15. 8/01 NJH # 15.5/02 Otis exploded for 32 points, 12 rebounds and 7 assists to lead the Jersey City Boys Club 16 under team in the NJ state regional championship game victory over the T1T Playaz. 8/01 NJH # 18. 8/01 Metro Hoops Best of the Rest (after top 10).

Nick Carter 5-9  guard LI Lutheran 12/01 GB # 21  5/02 JPM 'Nick plays AAU for the Church and is often overwhelmed by 'chos trio of Yatta Gaines, Russell Robinson and Ronald Ramon, each of whom are stronger than Nick. He's a notch below those three but Nick's got game. Like his father (Reggie Carter played for the Church, St Johns and the Knicks - a genuinely nice who died suddenly from a heart ailment when Nick was a freshman). Nick is heady and can be an effective combo guard. D1 yes, but the level will depend on whether he grows any more physically.'  1/30/00 IS8 Jumpman Winter League - The Riverside Church juniors destroyed the Rough House 52 - 24 in the first junior game. The Church trio of A J Price at point, Nick Carter, the game's star, on the wings and Kevin Winter inside controlled the game.  9/5/03 John P Miciotta: 'I have always admired his all-around game, poise and unselfishness. Still a notch below the elite guards in this class but he's now a solid mid-major recruit because his strength and ability to finish plays and make jumpers is improved. If he can improve his handle he will become more recruitable as a point guard, because he has the knack for finding team mates. He is also a kid who may keep getting stronger and play his best hoops in college.'

James Ulrich 6'6 forward Camden Catholic NJ.  12/20/03 NJO: 'NJ # 4 small forward -- After playing a mostly subsidiary role to brothers Eric and Nick Cangelosi most of last season, Ulrich gained attention with some big scoring games in the state tournament and the Tournament of Champions. The 6-5 senior knows how to get open and finish.'  8/02 NJH # 42.

Bryant Dunston 6'7" center St John's Prep, NYC. 9/5/03 John P Miciotta: 'Has terrific athletic bloodlines. Uncle Shaun is a former #1 pick in baseball's draft and had a long career as a shortstop/utility man in the national league primarily with the Cubs, Cardinals and Giants and briefly with the Mets. Sometimes it takes Bryant a while to get started not because he doesn't play hard but because he moves tentatively. Once he does he can be very effective. Wide body who uses broad shoulders to get space. OK leaper but only off two feet and with a step to launch himself. Decent hands and a soft touch around the basket. Needs to improve his footwork to be more of a force offensively at the next level where he will face more players his own size or better. Great kid who seems coachable. Recruitable by low majors.'

Chris Rose 6-4 forward Don Bosco Prep NJ. 7/19/03 John P Miciotta: '6'5" shooter Chris Rose was wonderful.'   6/03 And 1: Don Bosco -- Their frontcourt is impressive with 6-10 junior John Oates (NJ Hoops # 9), 6-7 sophomore Tyrell Biggs (NJ Hoops # 1) and 6-5 junior Chris Rose (NJ Hoops honorable mention last fall, but I'm confident Jay Gomes will be rating him higher this fall).  9/5/03 John P Miciotta: 'Chris is the perfect catch and shoot compliment to Don Bosco's two fine post players John Oates and Tyrell Biggs. A quick trigger and consistent release combine to make him very accurate with range well beyond the arc. He was particularly impressive playing for the Ironmen in July at the High School Summer Classic at St. Ray's. There the Ironmen played without both Oates and Biggs. Even though Rose did not have those two to force defenses to double the post and give him room to shoot, he was very effective and showed a great knack for moving without the ball, using screens, and catching the ball and squaring up for his shot quickly. He is certainly recruitable by low majors and perhaps some mid majors that use motion offenses that can get him shots coming off screens. He also is a pretty good help defender with good hands, although his lateral movement limits what he can do defensively.'

Eugene Lawrence 5'11" PG/SG Canarsie HS (Brooklyn) Like fellow Brooklyn PSAL player Jamel White of Grady he's a kid who belongs in D-I somewhere. He's small yes but he's got a strong body that makes him a good scorer on the drive and in traffic. His outside shooting and defense are improving, but the best parts of his game will always be heart and toughness. Whomever gets to coach him in college will get every ounce of energy he has.

Manny Quezeda 6'1" PG/SG St. Albans HS (DC) Manhattan native who spent his 9th grade year at Norman Thomas. He is at St. Albans an academically competitive school in Washington DC through the Children's Aid Society's Project Assist program which targets kids who can benefit from academically competitive situations (athlete's and non-athletes alike) and places them in schools that suit their abilities. As for his basketball abilities, he's a tough solid and smart combo guard who has the confidence to take and make tough shots. He's likely best suited for mid major programs but will draw looks from high majors where admissions are tough, and low majors that are academically competitive and where he can play and contribute immediately. Not quite sure he's up to ivy or patriot league level in the classroom but he is bright and has taken advantage of the opportunity at St. Albans for a solid education. Those schools therefore should have a look also

Jason Wilson 6-0 guard Bloomfield Tech, NJ  9/02 NJ Hoops # 49. 8/01 NJH # 14. 7/19/03 John P Miciotta: 'Wilson has reportedly also verballed early to Quinipiac and he's a steal for the Bobcats because his athleticism will make him a terrific slasher and finisher in their motion offense. Rubbing off screens his quick and long first step will get him right to the basket.'   5/10/02 tbone 'Jason currently at Bloomfield Tech.. 6'0 PG, in the shadow of Deshawn Dwight and Courtney Nelson at BT but is a solid player. Plays AAU with the Jersey Cyclones.'    8/01 Metro Hoops Best of the Rest (after top 10).  1/9/03 NJO: Jason Wilson erupted for 24 points, 10 rebounds and six steals to propel Bloomfield Tech to an 84-58 victory over Bayonne yesterday in West Caldwell.  9/5/03 John P Miciotta: 'He is the least heralded of a trio of terrific perimeter players for Tech but he's a very good player in his own right and a steal for a program like Quinipiac, who he verbaled to earlier this summer. Not only did Joe DeSantis and his staff get a player who they know is athletically ready to play in the NEC but they got a player who fits their motion system very well and can defend both the point and off guard position at that level. Terrific in transition and coming off screens as a slasher. Takes the ball to the basket aggressively and finishes strong. His outside shot is pretty good too as long as he takes good shots.

Rudy (JR) Mitchell, 6-2 forward Xaverian. 12/01 GB # NR  5/02 JPM 'Rudy transferred from Tilden last season and sat out the year. He's very talented and has the ability to be a solid reserve with a prestigious AAU team but he didn't seem to be with a program last summer or this summer. He's ok now with school work and can be a serious contributor next season if he' s not too rusty.'  9/5/03 John P Miciotta: 'Last year we wrote how much we liked his ability but were also cautious in our assessment of him because he sat out last season after transferring. Well, it's time to compliment him now because he wasted no time shaking the rust off and making himself an important part of a fine Xaverian team. His outside shot provided a nice compliment to the inside work of Chris Taft and as the season progressed he became more of a leader. This summer, he played a key reserve role for the Gauchos, forcing teams out of zones with his outside shooting. Long arms and active hands make him a pretty good defender, he'll be better if his lateral movement improves. The best news is, he's been a Dean's list student every semester at Xaverian Recruitable by low and mid majors.'

Cliffy Clinkscale 5-10 Faith Christian NC 12/01 GB # 13. 5/02 JPM 'Congrats Cliffy and well done, Nathan. Continued success to both of you.'  6/27/02 results -- JYO 89, Pro-bound 64 and Rock Steady 82, Barrier Breaker 42.  Cliffy Clinkscale came back to his old haunts at IS8 to lead JYO with 21 points  7/3/03 Youth Prep Stars: 'PG Cliff Clinkscales led the Atlantic Celtics to victory over Tennessee Midstate Ballers 87-77. The Ballers upset Sports Academy of LA 77-72 to advance to the championship. The Celtics knocked off tough World Wide team 65-61 to advance to the championship. The Classic was full of talent.'

John Ager 5-7, LaSalle NY.  12/01 GB # NR. 5/02 JPM 'John was on LaSalle's JV last season and at that level he's a good scoring two guard who can get into the lane to score or dish. He's quick but can unnecessarily force the action. He still needs to work hard on his passing and defense. He is not a point guard and as an undersized two guard the step up to varsity level will be a challenge. It's hard to predict his college level until then.'   2/12/00  Saturday morning at IS8 -  In the second midget game Brooklyn USA ambushed the Running Rebels with a 18 - 8 first quarter and a 64 - 36 final.  USA has the talent - Eugene Harvey at the point,  John Ager on the wings and James Walker with Carlos Collazo inside. 1/27/03 Newsday: John Ager's 26 Points Pace St. Mary's.

Brian Ameneiros 5'7" G Xaverian , NY 12/01 GB # NR. 5/02 JPM 'A deadly open shooter. When he gets a  look following good ball reversal from three point range it's money in  the bank. Also a very good post passer who's poise and shooting complement his teammates really well. He's a bit undersized but he's as tough as nails and a winner.'

Junior Bernal 6'4" SF Hyde Prep (ME) Like his CAS Warrior team mate Quezada (at St. Albans) Junior is at Hyde thanks to Project Assist and has, by all accounts, done a solid job in class at an academically competitive institution. He's a player who loves to get out in transition on the wing. He finishes strong and can pull up and make the three. He's also capable of helping on the boards from the wing position. He can also defend both the off-guard and small forward spots but he does not handle the ball well enough to get his own shot or create for team mates. He's capable of contributing right away for low majors while mid-majors will have to wait for him to polish those ball skills if they recruit him.

Jason Cameron 6-1 Cliffside Park, NJ  9/02 NJ Hoops # 18. 8/01 NJH # 13. 5/10/02 tbone 'Jason is still doing his thing. Great scorer for Cliffside Park (scored 41pts in a game this year). He plays AAU with the Jersey Cyclones.'   8/01 Metro Hoops Best of the Rest (after top 10).

Kevin Casey 6-6 forwrad Campus Magnet NY GB # 33.

Andrew Cashin 6'3" SF St. Francis Prep (Queens) If he were two inches taller he'd be a sure fire D-I recruit because few high school players in recent memory do "little things" better than he does. CK's Bob Oliva calls Prep "the Princeton of our league" and no player's effectiveness illustrates that more than Andrew's. He screens, passes beautifully from the forward spots and moves so well without the ball that he always seems to be in the right spot for one of Brian Geffen's passes for a layup. Also, at the high school level, and likely at the D-II level he will be able to help on the boards from a wing spot with his ability to get position and very soft hands. His outside shot is pretty good out to 15' and could improve.

Clyde Chapman 6'6" C Xaverian , NY 12/01 GB # NR 7/19/03 John P Miciotta: 'Clyde Chapman did his typical quietly effective work inside.'  5/02 JPM 'Kind of a plodder who at times has trouble staying on the court due to foul problems. When he can get time though he rebounds well and can provide a big body in the post.'  9/5/03 John P Miciotta: 'Another player who, like Rudy Mitchell we have written a little something about but who deserves more attention. Since last summer physical maturity has helped him out grow the plodding gait he had as a freshman and he runs much better and is a much better rebounder. Still as a 6'4" insider he's recruitable mainly by D-II's. However schools at that level that decide to recruit him will get not only a smart player but a terrific student. Clyde has excelled in Xaverian's "IB" program for academically advanced students so programs that compete at the D-II level in basketball at an ivy or "sub ivy" level in the classroom may want to have a look at Clyde. They will get a fine player and student, and an even better person.'

Hensley Charles 6-8 center Hillside, NJ.  12/20/03 NJO: 'NJ # 5 center -- The 6-7 senior was an inconsistent scorer in Mountain Valley Conference games, though he did erupt for some impressive scoring and rebounding numbers several times against Union County opponents Roselle Catholic, St. Mary's and Plainfield. Charles is a strong defender inside.'  9/02 NJ Hoops # 31.

Serge Clement 5'8" PG St. John's Prep (Queens) He does a real solid job running the team and is a tenacious on the ball defender whose effort is contagious. When he picks up full court, his team mates defend harder and play better. Size and skill level will likely limit him to D-II and D-III looks but he will make whatever program he's in better with his leadership and aggressive style.

Dan Corrigan 5-9,  guard Poly Prep, NYC.  12/01 GB # 28.

Michael Dietz 6-3, forward Queens, NY. 12/01 GB # 30. 2/6/00 Sunday morning at IS8 - In the first Midget game the Running Rebels easily took the Skyriders 52 - 30. Point guard, Ryan Eisner ran the show and star, Michael Dietz, dominated inside.

Abdoulaya Fall 6-1, Paramus Catholic, NJ.12/01 GB # 38.  11/5/99 Brooklyn Scout: 'The Brooklyn USA 8th-grade AAU team will travel to play Minneapolis South, the Minnesota 8th-grade state AAU champions, on Thursday, November 11 at the Target Center. The matchup will be held before the NBA contest between the Minnesota Timberwolves and the New York Knicks.  The Brooklyn USA team will feature five nationally-ranked players including Sebastian Telfair (#1 eighth grader, Hoop Scoop), Jimmy Walker (#4 eighth grader), Abdoulaye Fall (#6 eighth grader), Eugene Harvey (#1 seventh grader, Hoop Scoop) and Chris Lowery (#5 seventh grader).

Nick Flagg  5-11 guard Cardozo, NY. 12/01 GB # 61  5/02 Nick is playing for JYO at IS8 this spring.

James Furlong 6'6" F Xaverian, NY 12/01 GB # NR.  5/02 JPM 'The only soph who played varsity for the Clippers last season. He shares the same basketball roots as his coach Jack Alesi (from St. Thomas Aquinas in Flatbush) He's got long arms and very good feet but needs to get a lot stronger to be an effective player. Last year he was a player who got his hands on many rebounds and got to the rim with good moves often but did not have the strength to secure many of those rebounds or finish those plays . If he develops that strength his play, and college prospects will improve dramatically.'  9/5/03 John P Miciotta: 'He came on and got some additional minutes toward the end of last season and did some good things for the Clippers this summer also. Long and gets his hands on alot of loose balls but strength and stamina are major weaknesses Recruitable by some D-II's but mainly D-III's.

Elsmore Gabriel 6-4 CTK, NY 12/01 GB # 18   5/02 JPM 'This 6-5 wide body was on the CTK varsity last season and didn't play much. He's slow and needs better conditioning. As an undersized four he either needs to grow or settle for less than D1. Improving his perimeter skills does not seem likely.'

Gary Graham 6-3  swing St Johns Prep, NY. 7/19/03 John P Miciotta: ''6'3" Gary Graham is an outstanding shooter and that skill should draw him D-1 looks.'   9/5/03 John P Miciotta: 'Good open shooter off the catch who is improving the other parts of his game. On the thin side but his good lateral movement and length make him a good defender in the open floor. Solid D-II prospect who will draw low major looks because he shoots the ball well. To be a contributor at that level his other skills, ball-handling and driving especially, must get better.

Steve Harney 6-0 guard Stony Brook Academy, LI 12/01 GB # 85. 4/25/01 Suffolk County Basketball Awards Dinner -- There were two freshmen recognized - Ryan Hodgson (Floyd) received All League and All Conference recognition and Steven Harney (Stony Brook) received All League Honors.

Jesse Iyalekhue 6'7 center Columbus, Bx. 7/19/03 John P Miciotta: 'Senior Jesse Iyalekhue (6'7") showed that he deserves D-1 attention because of his great strength and willingness to compete on the glass. He's a low D-1 prospect now but if he can improve his hands and develop a second post move (now he only turns to one shoulder) his stock will rise.'  9/5/03 John P Miciotta: Like Dunston he's got broad shoulders and decent hands. He also runs hard, competes on the glass and can turn to one shoulder to score. Also a two-footed leaper only. Doesn't shoot well yet but still learning the game and improving his skills. Recruitable by D-II's and low majors.'

Dwayne Jarrett, 6-6 center New Brunswick, NJ  9/02 NJ Hoops # 25. 8/01 NJH # 12.  8/01 Metro Hoops: '# 9. Hey I love this kid ability. He possesses unlimited ability. He athletic ability is very similar to Stanley Branch, however he does not shoot as well. Hey this kid is a very good passer and great slasher to the basket. Yo!, and can he  block shots! He may be playing out of position at New Brunswick, This kid has big time 3 guard skills. Dwayne is considered to be one of the top HS football players in Jersey at the WR position. Dwayne could be a high major if he dedicates himself completely to basketball. Hey did I mention he runs track too!'   NJ: 'An example of how extraordinary the New Brunswick Zebras were this year, was freshman sensation, Dwayne Jarrett. Not only is he very big, and a great shot blocker already, but he along with fellow big men Seab Smith, and Greg Dotson, were extraordinary passers on the interior. Jarrett, a 6-6 center, averaged 10.6 points and 8.9 rebounds and was a key contributor to New Brunswick's Central Jersey Group II Championship team. Although he is only a freshman, Jarrett seemed to have the poise of an upperclassmen at times, particularly during county tournament games against Highland Park and Colonia. With Jarrett as well as Marvin Taylor, Eric Bynes, Kareem Byrom and Willie Stewart, the Zebras should be a force in the GMC for a few more years to come. Congratulations, Dwayne, on a job well done, and the best of luck in the future.'

Quinton Johnson.6'1 Linden, NJ  8/01 NJH NR 5/10/02 tbone 'No AAU?, very good outside shooter and leaper. Will emerge this year for the Tigers.' 1/24/03 NJO: Quinn Johnson erupted for a career-high 25 points, 14 in the first quarter, to help Linden, No. 16 in The Star-Ledger Top 20, build a substantial lead on its way to a 69-47 victory over Plainfield yesterday in Linden.

Skyler Khaleel  6-2 forward, Cardozo, NY 12/01 GB # 12.  5/02 JPM ''The Cardozo lefty forward is hyped but so far, a disappointment. He's not an advanced wing player; he scores most of his points in transition and in the post. His shot is slow and it's not that accurate. He runs the floor with a forward lean so there are concerns about his balance. As of now, he's not as good as advertised.'

Basil Leslie 6-3,  Grady NY. 12/01 GB # 47. GB # 15. 5/02 JPM 'Basil appears to be just now coming into his own. He's a good baseline shooter who has a chance for more playing time at Grady this coming season. It figures to be an important year for him.'   9/6/00  Coach Jack Ring:  'Basil Leslie was in attendance at Grady this past summer and as far as I know will continue this semester.'

Nick Hamilton-Lopez 5-9 guard,  Msgr. McClancy, NY.  3/10/03 Louis Xifaras: Nick Hamilton-Lopez was a key player on McClancy's varsity team this season as a junior. Nick was a top-ten CHSAA scorer, putting up a career high 32 points against St. Francis Prep. Hamilton-Lopez, despite his small frame, held his own against some of the league's, and for that matter the country's, top players. He was on numerous occasions boxed-and-oned. Nick is known for his devastating jumpshot, but has developed his penetration game to go along with his quick dribbling skills. In February, Hamilton-Lopez was the MSG Tri-state player of the week, leading McClancy to league wins over Holy Cross and St. Francis Prep. Although not acknowledged on the All-CHSAA team this season, Hamilton-Lopez will definitely get high consideration next season. Nick is currently being recruited by small Division I schools. Nick plays AAU ball for the Queens RimRockers.  3/03 Nick finished with a CHSAA 17.3 scoring average, eighth best in Division I.

Elvis Lora 5-11 point guard Columbus, NY 7/19/03 John P Miciotta: 'Senior Elvis Lora is a good shooter from the point position whose size (5'11") and playing style remind me of former Theodore Roosevelt star Ed Berrios.'   9/5/03 John P Miciotta: 'As I mentioned when I saw him at St. Ray's in July his playing style reminds me a great deal of Theodore Roosevelt star Ed Berrios. Although he's a point guard his jumper may be the best skill he has but he does play for the most part with a steady, poised hand. Recruitable by D-II's and low majors.

Mike Malko 6'6 Hillsborough HS NJ. 9/02 NJ Hoops # 40. 5/10/02 tbone 'Plays AAU with the MSU Skyliners. Has stepped his game up alot since March, very agressive down low, and can step out and knock down the 3pt shot.. Mid D-1 prospect .'

Shomari Moore 5-8 Camden High, NJ 8/01 NJH # 19.  5/10/02 tbone 'Shomar Moore is in Memphis with his boy, Dajuan Wagner. Whereever Wagner ends up in the draft Shamar will attend HS there. They are best friends.'   8/01 Metro Hoops Best of the Rest (after top 10). 3/30/03 Inquirer: Newcomer of the year. This one needs a little explaining, because it goes to Shomari Moore, Camden's 5-11 junior point guard. Moore was a varsity reserve as a freshman for Camden before transferring to Memphis for his sophomore year. He left for Memphis to be near his friend and mentor Dajuan Wagner, but when Wagner departed the University of Memphis for the NBA after one season, Moore returned. This season he averaged 22.4 points and saved some of his best performances for the most important games. Moore had 33 points in a 79-74 South Jersey Group 3 semifinal win over Woodrow Wilson. He added 24 in Camden's 72-71 double overtime win over Wilingboro in the South Jersey Group 3 final. His ability to penetrate against bigger guards was his most impressive aspect. Moore played a major role in helping Camden win the South Jersey Group 3 title.'

Ahmed Mosby St Anthony NJ  12/20/03 NJO: 'NJ # 3 point guard --  Most teams struggle to find a point guard who can provide reliable floor leadership and a nice touch. St. Anthony is essentially blessed with two competent point men, the 5-11 Mosby, a senior, and 5-8 junior Derrick Mercer. Mosby is the classic St. Anthony point guard who works the ball through the offense crisply and gets his scoring through his defense.'  9/02 NJ Hoops # 16. 8/01 NJH # 17.5/02 Ahmed teamed with fellow Friar, Otis Campbell in the Jersey City 16 under NJ championship game with 23 points including four three pointers.   8/01 NJH # 18. 8/01 Metro Hoops Best of the Rest (after top 10).

Deon Mozalle 6-3 forward Xaverian NY 12/01 GB # 32.  5/02 JPM 'He's all arms and legs which makes him great on press defense (shades of the player Phil Jackson). He's rail thin and actually makes Shagari look chunky. In the halfcourt set he's a defensive liability with no position -- threes are too strong and twos are too quick for him. Offensively he can shoot from the key in and is a very good post passer (are you ready, Chris Taft?) who can throw over the defense. Deon is another product of the St Ann's, St George CYO program.'

Mingus Murray 5-11 point guard, Hun NJ. 12/20/03 NJO: 'NJ # 5 point guard --  This 5-11 senior does a good job of feeding the low post, then casually drifting to the wing for a kickout. He buried more than 60 3-pointers last season.'  9/02 NJ Hoops # 27.  1/12/03 NJO: Mingus Murray hit three 3-pointers and posted a game-high 24 points for Hun in Princeton. Patrick Dwyer added 10 points as Hun completed a 3-0 week that included victories over St. Benedicts Prep and Peddie. 1/13/03 PrepStars Top 20 National Prep Poll has # 13. Hun School Junior guard Mingus Murray scored 22 in the win over Hightstown.

Desmond Sanders St Pats NJ   12/20/03 NJO: 'NJ # 7 point guard -- He has quite a task ahead as the only regular returning from the 2003 Tournament of Champions winner. But the 6-1 senior likely will handle the job with poise. He's not easily rattled and he demonstrates patience with less experienced teammates.'  9/02 NJ Hoops # 28. 8/01 NJH # 21. 5/10/02 tbone: 'Desmond Sanders is a Zoo Crew alumnus. Currently playing with the CJ Hornets, he's a slick Newark PG (not the same as a NY PG, but a City PG) thats going to see minutes at St.Patricks this year.'  8/01 NJH # 18. 8/01 Metro Hoops Best of the Rest (after top 10).

Noah Savage 6-7 forward Hun NJ.  9/02 NJ Hoops # 20. 1/13/03 PrepStars Top 20 National Prep Poll has # 13. Hun School Post-grad Billy May and 6-6 junior Noah Savage each scored 21 points in the victory over previously unbeaten St. Benedict’s, which at the time held the No. 2 spot in the national high school poll.

Chris Severe .6'1 Elizabeth, NJ  9/02 NJ Hoops # 38.  8/01 NJH NR  5/10/02 tbone 'Plays AAU with the Skyliners. Very strong player and leaper. Takes it to the house strong.'

Jonothan Smith 6'2" SG Mt.Vernon HS. (NY) He got a chance to show us his wears in the IS8 spring tournament and while he may be overshadowed by highly touted teammates Keith Benjamin, Jon Mitchell Dexter Gray and even super frosh Mike Coburn, he's a solid player in his own right. He's a good defender who isn't afraid to take big shots when opponents pay extra attention to his more touted team mates. Not as athletic as Benjamin (few guys are) but he can keep quicker players in front of him. Should draw low and perhaps some mid major looks and be a solid contributor wherever he goes.

Todd Sowell 6'7" C Bishop Loughlin (Brooklyn) He did not play much last year for the Lions even after Kirk Bunn who represented the team's only size, went down with a back injury. Playing this summer mostly with the Juice All-Stars, he has shown some promise. He's clearly not in shape (from a lack of playing time) but when he's in a game where he can get up and down the floor he rebounds well, has good hands, and a nice touch around the basket. Right now, he's a safe D-II recruit, but he's a kid who could get better as he plays more and gains experience.

Kevin Spann, North Babylon, 5-9, G: 12/01 GB # 36. 12/24/00  Newsday: 'Moved from Chicago and started the fall on the freshman team. A good penetrator and shooter, Spann now has the varsity point guard job.'

James Walker 5-10 forward Brooklyn, NY. 12/01 GB # 31. 11/5/99 Brooklyn Scout: 'The Brooklyn USA 8th-grade AAU team will travel to play Minneapolis South, the Minnesota 8th-grade state AAU champions, on Thursday, November 11 at the Target Center. The matchup will be held before the NBA contest between the Minnesota Timberwolves and the New York Knicks.  The Brooklyn USA team will feature Jimmy Walker (#4 eighth grader).'   2/12/00  Saturday morning at IS8 -  Brooklyn USA ambushed the Running Rebels with a 18 - 8 first quarter and a 64 - 36 final.  USA has the talent - Eugene Harvey at the point,  John Ager on the wings and James Walker with Carlos Collazo inside.

Jamel White 6' SG Grady (Brooklyn) His fine junior season was punctuated by a clutch performance in leading the Falcons to a season opening upset against Xaverian in the Diane Brennan Tournament at Fordham and an all-tourney selection in the Msgr. King Christmas Tournament. He owns one of the PSAL's best shooting strokes with range well beyond the arc. He's an undersized off guard sure but he belongs in D-I somewhere because of that great range and because the elevation he gets on the "J" means its effectiveness is projectable to the next level. He has good strength that helps him defend and wants to take the big shot in clutch situations.

Kevin Winter 5-11 guard St Raymonds Bronx.  12/01 GB # 49.

Dropped out:

Scott Bullock 6-3, St Augustine, NJ   9/02 NJ Hoops # 88. 8/01 NJH # 72.

John (JD) Dennis 6-4 Newark Westside  8/01 NJH # 35.  5/10/02 tbone 'Hopefully is not locked up as I type this. Very good on the court (street game that produces), but off it, "can you say Mike Tyson?"  He has to get his act together. Played with The Newark Rams until this year. Coach Brian Crawford didn't let him play this year which hopefully motivates this kid to shape up.'

Robert Flores 5'9" CTK, NY 12/01 GB # 81.7/19/03 John P Miciotta: 'Other players such as senior Rob Flores and junior Ahmed Allen showed signs they may be able to add important depth to the Royals' mix. Flores shot the ball well and made good decisions with the ball.'  5/02 JPM 'Robert played point on CK's jv runner up. Although size may limit possibilities he's a tough kid and can make shots...Some who follow local basketball count him out but while he may not start, he'll help the varsity this year. Don't be surprised if he wins a couple of games with big shots for the Royals next year.'

Sam Furr 6-4 St Patrick, NJ  8/01 NJH #  23.  5/10/02 tbone 'Sam Furr is currently off the map.. Hopefully emerges back soon.'

Nick Gogel 6-4 Whippany Park, NJ  8/01 NJH # 38.

Eric Horowitz 5-10 Cresskill, NJ  8/01 NJH # 36.5/10/02 tbone 'Eric is a solid defender and floor general.'

Dan Levy 6-5, forward Cherry Hill East, NJ  Hoop Scoop # 25 in Pa. & southern NJ.  7/01  The Cherry Hill East Metro Classic roster had 2 seniors, six juniors and seven sophomores.  Dan headed the list of sophs.

Darryl Martin 6-1 guard,  Rahway NJ 8/01 NJH # 11.5/02 Darryl is playing well for the NJ Jammers under 16 team.  8/01 Metro Hoops: '# 8. Where has this kid been! Last year Darryl played mostly JV. This kid is the real deal. During the AAU state tournament Darryl performed like he was the best freshman in the state. Yo he consistently dropped 25+ on the best freshman in New Jersey. He dropped 35 on the heavily favored Jersey Shore Cyclones to help lead the Central Jersey Jammers to an upset victory in the quarter finals. Also helped the Jammers knock the TT Players out the tournament as well. "D" has "mad hops", and unbelievable range on his jump shot! Needs to work on mid-range game, and ball handling if he wants to take his game to the next level.'

Preston Miley guard Xaverian , NY 12/01 GB # NR  5/02 JPM 'Preston is another St Ann's, St George CYO graduate. He's a rugged, tough defender who turns dribblers very well. Preston was the difference in Xaverian's OT JV championship win vs. CTK with his ability to get in the lane and dish. He has a real chance to do the same thing this coming season for the varsity competing with the incumbent Kyle Odoms. Preston can be a mid to high D1 prospect.'

Keving Palacios 6-6 St Benedict, NJ   8/01 NJH # 2.  5/02 Keving is playing for the T1T Playaz 16 under team this spring. He led them with 26 points in their championship loss to the Jersey City Boys club.  08/01 Metro Hoops: '# 8. At 6-6 220 lbs plus, Keving will help make Benedict's a serious contender for the prep school championships again. He and Stanley Branch together for 2 year! That's scary! Keving is power forward who can step outside the paint and hurt you from the elbow, or the 3-point strip. Good rebounder, and solid defender. Once he really learns the game he is going to be force to reckon with.'  11/5/02  Prep Stars Top 25 Preseason Poll  # 2 team, St Benedict, NJ  ' Keving Palacios went back to Venezuela, but Hurley brought over one of Palacios’ countrymen Alex Galindo, a skilled wing player who can shoot and pass.'

TJ Sferra 5'9 Bridgewater HS  8/01 NJH # 42.  5/10/02 tbone '3pt specialist, hit 70 3's in 18 games last year as a sophomore.  Averaged 18 pts a game. Plays AAU with the MSU Skyliners.'

Tody Shiggs 5-8 Atlantic City, NJ 8/01 NJH # 80. 7/01  Atlantic City Metro Classic 15 man roster had 8 seniors and 7 juniors - no sophs and no Tody.

Dajuan Williams 6-1,  forward Bryant HS, NY.   5/02 JPM 'Dajuan is an active., slashing player, good in an up tempo, pressing game but the jump shop is problematic. He has played for Elmcor's AAU team in the past.'

Jermaine Bell, 6-11 center, The Pendleton School Bradenton, FL  11/02 InsidersHoops: 'Native of New York was scheduled to play 2001-02 season at Oak Hill but opted for Coastal Christian instead where he missed half the season with a foot injury. Loads of potential as an athletic shot blocker but needs to play with more fire and must add strength and weight to his frame.'

10/14/02 Fox Sports:  Top 50 high school juniors includes 6. Sebastian Telfair 5-11 175, Lincoln/Brooklyn, N.Y. Comment: Once someone convinces him that he can still be a heck of a point guard while only taking three or four jumpers per game, he stands a chance of vaulting back into the top spot in this class. Camp: Adidas.  36. Russell Robinson 6-1 165 1 Rice/New York City, N.Y. Comment: He might be the answer to a trivia question ? "Who was the second best guard in New York when Sebastian Telfair was in high school?" ? some day. Camp: Nike. 41. Josh Wright 5-11 160 1 Utica/Utica, N.Y. Comment: He's another quick and slick East Coast guard who will miss out on a lot of hype because of that Sebastian Telfair fellow. Camp: Adidas. 42. Stanley Branch 6-7 205 4 St. Benedict's/Newark, N.J. Comment: He's the next "player" out of the Tim Thomas Playaz program, which has cranked out quite a few of them lately. Camp: Adidas.

7/30/02 Steve Treffiletti, Albany City Rocks: '... just a heads up to maybe add someone in the near future. The kid's name is Dayshawn Wright, from Syracuse, NY. He plays @ Fowler HS, and he played for our Albany City Rocks AAU team this entire 2002 spring circut (both 16u, and 17u).   I don't claim to know a lot about anything, but I would bet my career that Day belongs on the list of sophmores. He is a 6-7 beast, who rebounds, defends, blocks everything, and throws down some of the fiercest dunks you would not wish your enemy to try and defend. I am a little biases in writing to you, but above all the athletics, he is a good kid, plays hard, never talks back, and just plays ball, hopefully that still counts for something ! He was possibly (behind big Al Jefferson) the best player at the 16U Nationals in Detroit, he went out and made top 50 @ Nike camp, not bad for a soph. And, teamed up with #1 ranked frosh Tiki Mayben, they will be a heck of a duo for me to deal with next spring,. Again, not a debate, just a heads up.'

7/29/02 East Coast Basketball: 'Sebastian Telfair (PG)— he showed nothing new. I talked to one guy who was truly disappointed. Telfair did not show him anything but faster-than-lightning quickness, bullet pinpoint passes, great court vision, and unsurpassed dribbling skills. He gets great separation and can always get a good look at the basket. And he is not afraid to take it inside among the trees. OK, his 3-point stroke is not deadly, but it is very good. And, yes, he could use his quickness to be a terror on defense, but seldom does that. But he is not a disappointment, and I have said it before, “you do not want to have to play against this guy.”

7/19/02 Coach Miller: 'Ryan Lancaster should be on the list. He is a lot better than some of the players that you have. Ryan is a 6'3" 170lbs shooting guard from Egg Harbor Township New Jersey. Ryan can defend the 1,2,or 3. He has a great jumper, and can handle, drive, and finish at the rim. Ryan is one of the best juniors that I have seen in NJ. Once next year starts you will be hearing a lot about this kid.'

5/15/02 Class 2004 coverage upped to over 70 and ranked, no longer grouped alphabetically. John P Miciotta, tbone and others on this site contributed to the profiles and player evaluations. The rankings were compiled by referencing Gameball, NJ Hoops, Real Scout and Apple's Ballaz' lists and by watching play at IS8, UDC, Gauchos and CityWide.

Hoop Scoop Visitors  Thursday, July 12, 2001 - What 5'11 Sebastian Telfair from Brooklyn (Lincoln) NY did last night in the Underclassmen All-Star Game at the adidas ABCD Camp was the nothing short of spectacular. Telfair was ranked #5 overall in camp going into the final day and he had already either outplayed or more than held his own against all the top guards in camp, including 6'1 Raymond Felton from Latta (H.S.) SC, 6'2 Sean Dockery from Chicago (Julian) IL, 6'3 Anthony Roberson from Saginaw (H.S.) MI, 6'0 Elijah Ingram from Jersey City (St. Anthony) NJ, and 6'2 Allan Ray from Bronx (St. Raymond's) NY. As a matter of fact, the only player in camp who got the better of him was 6'6 Jr LeBron James from Akron (St. Vincent-St. Mary) OH, who finished ranked as the consensus #1 player in camp. However, Telfair even stole the show from James in the all-star game. And after facing the best collection of players at one position that we've seen in any superstar oriented camp during the 18 years we've been in the business, it is easy to see why playing in the Underclassmen All-Star Game was like a stroll in the park for Telfair. He didn't get into the game until two-thirds way through the first half, but by intermission Telfair had 20 points. Not only was he using his incredible crossover dribble, tremendous speed and quickness, and explosive moves to shake his man and bury four out of five 3-pointers, but he also made more than his share of incredible moves to the basket and had several amazing passes that went for assists. Further evidence of how well Telfair was playing comes from the fact that he kept getting the ball back after he'd bring the ball up the court and start the offense. In other words, the college coaches, scouts, and fans in attendence weren't the only people who knew they were watching something great happen right before their eyes. Yes, Telfair's own teammates were more than willing to take a backseat and let him be the star, which is rare in an all-star game. Telfair cooled off in the second half, but he still finished with 29 points, seven assists, and 12-15 field goals. He also played his way into the #2 spot in our rankings behind James, who took home MVP honors for his team.'
