12/20/04 Class 2005 coverage upped to over 120 with more than 70 ranked and the others listed alphabetically. John P Miciotta, tbone and others on this site contributed to the profiles and player evaluations. The rankings were compiled by referencing  NJ Hoops, InsiderHoops and Hoop Scoop lists and by watching play at IS8, UDC. and the Gauchos. The more than 120 people (half of them, coaches) on this site's mailing list had a chance to contribute, though most won't rank players on principle. Ultimately, the final decision was mine, the site's programmer and basketball fan. I am not a scout, and I am not a talent evaluator. This ranking should be taken very lightly. It is primarily a reason to profile prominent players in one place on this site. I apologize to all those who should be on this list, but are not, due to my ignorance. For comments, suggestions and further evaluations please email to nycnjhoops@aol.com.

Greg Paulus 6-2 guard CBA Syracuse. 12/03 John P Miciotta: 'An early commitment for Duke who makes our list because of his affiliation with the Long Island based New York Elite AAU team. He may well be both the state's best point guard and football quarterback in this class, but for now at least, has decided to play only point guard in college. He's a terrific athlete with great feet and balance, he gets good elevation on his jumper, and while he had tough luck shooting when I saw him, his technique is obviously very solid. He pushes the ball up fast, plays under control, defends on the ball well and is a leader on the floor. In other words, he's a very complete point guard.'  4/29/03 Basketball Phenoms # 31.  12/02 Hoop Scoop # 118.

9/02 InsidersHoops: 'Played his way into the main Nike Camp by virtue of being one of the top three point guards at the 2002 Nike Hoop Jamboree. Paulus come from an athletic family and is a gifted player. Numerous high-major schools offered him as a sophomore. He possesses a fine stroke from downtown and is a great passer. Super floor game for a young point guard.'  4/03 Greg is playing for the Albany City Rocks this summer, teamed in the backcourt with Tiki Mayben.

Terrell Biggs 6-6 forward, NYC.  12/18/04 NJ.com Power forwards 1-Tyrell Biggs He entered last season with the distinction of being the state's No. 1 power forward and did nothing to diminish his reputation. The 6-7 Biggs averaged 17.5 points and 9.4 rebounds to help Don Bosco (25-4) to the final in North Jersey, Parochial A. As a junior, Biggs was leaner and quicker than as a sophomore. Now, a senior, he's stronger and a more versatile scorer than last season. Biggs has committed to Pittsburgh. 12/8/04 Metro Hoops Top 25 Seniors #6-10  # 7.  Mr. Biggs has the size of a tight end but remains nimble on his feet. After the departure of John Oates, Biggs will have use that frame to carry the load. Look for Tyrell to use this season to develop his outside game for Pittsburgh and the Big East.   9/02 NJ Hoops # 1. 2/1/04 Journal News: Nanuet's Tyrell Biggs in better shape.

12/03 John P Miciotta: 'Tyrell is a guy who was touted in many places early and has continued to make excellent progress. Basically, improved conditioning has allowed his skills to show themselves. A wide body who's not as explosive as his cousin Elton Brand, but he shows the same kind of footwork, soft touch and poise to score in traffic that his cousin displayed while at Peekskill High. He also is a smart position defender in the post and has a good knack for using his girth to get rebounding position. He will be a great college center, especially if he continues to improve his conditioning.'   5/02 JPM 'Terrell is the cousin of Elton Brand and is similar in many ways.  Terrell has great hands, a wide body and good feet for post moves. He's barrell chested but needs to keep his weight under control.'  5-09-2002 Sabes Foundation Invitational Underclassmen Evaluations - Jeremy Tiers: '6-7 285 lbs. PF/C Ramsey (NJ) Don Bosco Prep, Riverside Church 16’s. Excellent hands and finishes well around the basket. Dominates opponents with overpowering frame. Showed good short game, but struggled from 8-feet and out. High major prospect.'  8/21/99 At Riverbank the Riverside Church biddies got off to an 8 - 3 start against Brooklyn USA when Brooklyn's coach Tom "Ziggy" Sicignano was hit with a technical. By midway in the fourth quarter the Church's star, Terrell Biggs (16 points), fouled out and USA took their first lead. They won 59 - 57 with MVP, Amadou Fall, scoring 22 points. James Walker and Eugene Harvey had 12 and 8 points for the winner, while Arturo (Boo) Dubois and Ronnie Lewis had 12 and 8 for the Church.  11/99 Terrell played for the Riverside Church A, 13 and under team for the Gauchos Fall Roundball Classic averaging 9.0 ppg.  2/00: Terrel is playing with the Nanuet High JV and with Riverside Church at the Winter IS8 midget level with Nick Carter,  Kevin Winter and John Dixon.  3/03 GB # 1.

Theo Davis 6'9" PF/C Cardozo (Queens)   12/11/04 NY Post: Cardozo awaits Theo Davis.   6/15/04 JPM: 'That final game featured a marquee match up as two of New York's premier big men: 6'9" Brooklyn native Vernon Goodridge of Philly Lutheran and Theo Davis of Cardozo. Both guys are high major prospects for sure and although Goodridge showed his trademark athleticism, the younger Davis had the better of the play. He got started early with a quick put back basket and a pretty drop step move from the right block on the first two possessions. From there he was active shot the ball confidently, and had two more post up baskets, which are significant because they indicate he's getting more comfortable with the way the game is played in this country; without the trapezoid lane.'

6/15/04 Hooptown: 'Final Recap From The Rumble In The Bronx. Not only did Theo's team take home the 17U title, he was also awarded the MVP trophy. In the title game he scored a solid 13 points while going up against the big man from New Heights Vernon Goodridge. Without his presence in the middle, Bounce may not have made it as far as they did.'  12/03 Prep Stars # 12. 1/26/04 Newsday: Theo Davis Leads Cardozo.  12/03 John P Miciotta: 'Canadian player who arrives here after playing well at ABCD camp. Was able to hold his own athletically against some of the best big men his age in America. Has a terrific basketball frame and will likely get stronger. The chance to play in the states as a high schooler, without the trapezoid lane found in international basketball will help him develop a post up game as well.'   12/17/03 Daily News: Import lifts Cardozo. Theo Davis dazzles with triple-double. 6/7/03 Hoopmasters: NBPA Top 100 Camp is in Richmond, VA on June 17-22. Selections from this region currently include Theo Davis '05 PF 6-8 200 St. Patricks, NJ.

Brandon Costner, 6-8 power forward Seton Hall Prep, West Orange, NJ  2/18/04 NJ.com Power forwards  # 2- The 6-9 senior is built like a classic power forward, but his overall game is very diverse. Costner has outstanding range on his jump shot, passes like a point guard and is just as comfortable on the low block as he is behind the three-point stripe. Seton Hall lost to St. Augustine, 69-64, in last season's Parochial A final, despite 28 points and 10 rebounds from Costner. He will attend North Carolina State.12/8/04 Metro Hoops Top 25 Seniors  # 2. Brandon Costner 6’8 Forward (Seton Hall Prep)- While skeptics whisper that he plays soft, Costner continues to put up impressive numbers. The forward strength is his mid range game and finishing on the break. Brandon can hit the 12 ft jumper all day. Brandon will need to put the ball on the floor more to be effective in the ACC. But right now he gives the Pirates all they need to succeed.     9/02 NJ Hoops # 6.

12/03 John P Miciotta: 'He is the son of former Overbrook High and St. Joseph's (PA) College star Tony Costner. Brandon is a terrific prospect based on both his ability and potential. He's an aggressive forward with quick feet, soft hands, and a great knack for reading the ball off the rim. He's not an explosive leaper yet but he has great timing. He plays power forward but has good skill facing the basket. Can shoot it well from 15 feet and in, pump fake and drive, and will stick an occasional three when his feet are set. Wide shoulders lead one to believe he'll be able to carry more weight easily. He'll definitely grow stronger, and may grow taller as well.'   2/22/03 Insiders Hoops: 'Father played at St. Joseph’s and had a cup of coffee in the NBA. Lefty has good hands, skills and a body. We first saw him with the Playaz Basketball Club at the 2002 Fall Charlie Weber event.'    09/02 NJH # 6.

Shane Clarke 6'6" SF Cardinal Daugherty (Philly) 12/03 John P Miciotta: 'According to reports he is a senior with respect to athletic eligibility but a junior with respect to scholastic progress. Since that means he's not recruitable until next summer we will put him in the '05 class. He makes our list because of his affiliation with Jimmy Salmon's New Jersey based Playaz Club. His quickness to the ball, both defensively and on the boards, length and toughness are reminiscent of the late great former Tolentine HS and St. John's star Malik Sealy. Like Malik as a soph/junior in high school he is beginning to develop a perimeter game, with good slashing moves on offense and improved ability to move laterally on defense. His outside shooting has come along slowly but he has terrific explosiveness and he should keep getting better and better.'

Levance Fields 5'9 point guard Xaverian, Brooklyn. 12/7/04 Daily News: Levance Fields picks Pitt over SJU.   5/9/04 NY Post: 'All-CHSAA team Sundiata Gaines (Player of the Year), Levance Fields, Gavin Grant, Brian Laing and Ronald RamonCoach Jack Alesi believes Fields is the second-best point guard in New York City, behind only Sebastian Telfair of Lincoln. While that's debatable, what isn't is Fields' effect on the Clippers, who reached the CHSAA city and state title games. "He controlled the game in a way that few others can," Alesi said. "He has that rare quality to be able to carry a team." His ability to handle the ball and hit shots despite lacking size was integral in the team's playoff run.'   12/03 John P Miciotta: 'When one considers that he took over the varsity point guard position for the Clippers with almost no experience at the sub-varsity level due to a knee injury, his season was impressive.

And his return to good health and excellent play continued this summer for both the Clippers and the Gauchos. His stocky frame and aggressiveness pushing the ball up the court will remind veteran Big East watchers like myself of former Westinghouse High and Seton Hall point man Gerald Greene. He gets in the lane very well and can finish plays both scoring and assisting in traffic because of that strength. His decision making will likely get better the more he plays so by the time he's a senior he'll likely be as "solid" with his decision making as he is physically.'  7/19/03 John P Miciotta: 'With all the good things that happened to the Clippers, the best thing was the improved play of point guard Levance Fields. He's made a complete return to good health from knee surgery that caused him to miss his freshman year and that plus improved judgment mean that he could be destined for big things in the future.'

Andrew Bynum 7-0, St Joseph Metuchen, NJ. 12/18/04 NJ.com centers - # 2 The 7-0 senior has made remarkable strides in his overall game in the past nine months. He's stronger, a bit quicker and is shooting farther from the basket than at any time last season. Bynum will have to keep up his conditioning program to get ready to run with UConn in 2005-06. 12/8/04 Metro Hoops Top 25 Seniors  # 1. Andrew Bynum 6’11 Center (St. Josephs Metuchen)- Andrews recent success could not have been more fairy tale. In just over a year he went from sitting the bench at Solebury Prep to choosing the national champs for college. Bynum stock skyrocketed this summer while leading NJ All Stars to the championship at the Nike Super Showcase. Andrew tries to dunk everything around the basket. He uses his size to get anywhere he wants on the court. Bynum improved touch around the cup catapulted him to the #1 center in the country on many recruiting list.

10/11/04 Andrew is playing for the LI Panthers at IS8 along side 6-9 junior Derrick Caracter.  9/04 Rivals # 28 class of 2005. 8/04 Rob Brown, coach with the New Jersey All-Stars: 'Before this summer, he didn't know how to take games over, really. But toward the end of June and July, he just started dominating games.'  Andrew Bynum 6-11 center St. Joseph HS Metuchen, NJ.   7/04 Insiders' Dave Telep is raving about Andrew's play at the Nike Camp in Indianapolis. 'We’ve got him way too low at No. 41 and taking it a step further, this is a guy whose stock could take off in a big way.'    4/04 Rivals: 'Has tremendous size. Just beginning to figure out how to use his size. Could wind up being a high-major prospect with improvement and a commitment to rebounding.'  7/4/03 Metro Hoops: Andrew Bynum (St. Joseph's) 6-foot-9 center Wing span of a seven footer... big time body...strong presence in the paint... raw offensively...needs some work on both ends of the floor...will be a solid college player with some help from coaching.'

Kyle McAlarney 6-0 guard Moore Catholic, SI.  12/19/04 JDConkeroo: 'Kyle McAlarney of Moore HS went for 50 in a 69-64 OT loss to Monsignor Farrell on Friday night.'  5/4/04 Daily News: McAlarney became a Staten Island legend this season. He averaged 34.7 points, scoring 40 or more seven times. He scored 59 points in one game and also knocked down 104 three-pointers. Bad news for the rest of the Island: He'll be back for another year.'  5/02 JPM 'Kyle started at the point for Moore this season. He's good on the break and like St Francis Prep point Bryan Geffin, Kyle can shoot and pass well.  He's a smart player.'  4/02 John Fitzpatrick, Staten Island AAU observer: 'The best team in the 15u division for boys in NY this year has to be the Staten Island Lightning.

They are the best team from when they were 13 and runners up from last year. They have a complete team that goes 8 deep. They have two smart wise captains in 6'5" small forward Doug Elwell from Msgr.Farrell and 6'0" point guard Kyle McAlarney from Moore Catholic. 5/29/00 2000 New York Metropolitan AAU Boys Championship at Island Garden   In the third game the Lightning finally won, but it was the Staten Island, not Long Island version. They beat the Manhassett All Stars 66 - 54 in the 13u game. Doug Elwell (Gameball #20) is the Staten Island star center; he had 16 points for the winners. Kyle McAlarney ran the show as the S. I.  point.  3/03 GB # 20.

Danny Green 6-2 forward St Mary, LI  GB # 24. 5/30/05 Scout.com: Danny Green Finishes Career With Panthers   12/5/04 The Team Roc and NYHoops.com tourney featured eight impressive teams and four great games at Baruch today as St Dominic, Rice, St Mary and FDA were winners.St Mary blitzed Christ the King in the first half for a 23-12 lead and then hung on for a 54-49 win as MVP Danny Green (15), Tyson Johnson (13) and Tyrone Hansen (13) led the way.  5/2/04 Newsday: 'Green, a finalist for Nassau Player of the Year, led St. Mary's to a 23-2 season and the Nassau-Suffolk CHSAA championship. He averaged 16 points, 9 rebounds, 5 blocks and 5 assists, and already has 1,007 career points.'  12/03 John P Miciotta: 'He brings great size and length to the off guard spot but his best attribute is poise. Although just a sophomore last season he quickly established himself as a guy coach Tim Cluess could trust to make good decisions against pressure. He's also an improving defender and a good mid-range shooter who should extend that range more consistently beyond the arc as he gets stronger.'

5/02 JPM 'Danny is a poised, big kid who is a solid shooter and an ok defender. He's on the Gauchos roster this summer.'   8/7/99 Biddies play at IS8 on Saturday morning: 1st. Presbyterian Spirit is led by Marques Cox (GB # 12) as they take Danny Greene and 80 Park 41 - 25.  10/02 St Mary, Manhasset, LI. Coach Tim Cluess: 'Two sophomores could be the difference in how good our team becomes as the year progresses. 6'4" Tyson Johnson and 6'4" Dan Green. They are outstanding young players who should both be hi- level D1 prospects if they work hard. Both can go inside and out. Consistency will be a factor for both young players to help this team.'  11/02 Danny has transferred from North Babylon to St Mary for his sophomore year and he's become a starter. 3/03 GB # 16.  3/2/03 At IS8 SONDAY Express dominated Abyssinian Church in the semis but 80 Park was a different story as they cruised to a 68 - 53 victory. Junior division MVP, Chris Martin (21 points with 12 in the first quarter, pictured left), 6-5 Danny Green (11) and 6-3 center Marvin Robert (11) led wire to wire. 5/2/04 Newsday: 'All-Long Island boys basketball team includes A J Price, Kahiem Seawright, Clarence Alonzo, Alex Anderson, John Garcia, Danny Green, Jon Han, Bryant Lassiter, James St. Robert and Darrell Wonge. Green, a finalist for Nassau Player of the Year, led St. Mary's to a 23-2 season and the Nassau-Suffolk CHSAA championship. He averaged 16 points, 9 rebounds, 5 blocks and 5 assists, and already has 1,007 career points.'

Emmanuel "Tiki" Mayben, 6-1 guard Troy HS.   4/26/03 Albany TimesUnion: Syracuse scouts Mayben. College? Mom says Troy phenom hasn't decided on high school yet.    5/20/02  Coach Jim Hart: 'Tiki Mayben is the starting point guard for our (Albany City Rocks) 17 and under team (not 16). And my prediction of  Tiki being nationally ranked by the summer has come through in a big way. He is currently rated the #1 freshman in the nation (yes 1 nationally) by Clark Francis of the Hoop Scoop.'  5/15/02 Steve Grandin: 'Keep an eye out for Emmanuel "Tiki" Mayben of Troy High School. He is mature well beyond his years -- he was the best player on the Section 2 Class A champion team (eventually lost to NYSPHSAA champ Henninger), averaging 15.0 per game; also was a starter last year as an 8th grader, a rarity for a Class A school anywhere -- he's 6-1, handles the ball well, strong driver, and improving shot -- the best freshman we've had since Jason McKrieth (Rice), Craig Forth (Syracuse) and Lionel Chalmers (Xavier).'

4/02 Jim Hart 'Tiki is the starting point for the City Rocks 16 under team.  He will be nationally rated by the summer's end.'  2/22/03 Insiders Hoops: Nickname is “Tiki.” Missed most of his sophomore season as he was suspended and later dropped from his high school team. Made a serious mark on the AAU circuit coming out of his freshman season. Really fast, good with the ball and can score. 3/03 GB # 6.

Ricky Torres 6'4 SF St. Raymond, NY. 12/19/04 NJ Hoops: Best Performances by a committed senior at the Tip Off Classic -- JR Inman, Marques Johnson and Ricky Torres. 12/03 John P Miciotta: 'In his first varsity season, Ricky established himself as New York City's best shooter regardless of class. He's long so he can shoot it over defenders and he does it with very deep range and from all angles (either corner, straight away or from the wings). Defensively, he uses his long arms and quick hands to good advantage but right now he's a better help defender than he is an on-ball defender or press defender (overplaying passing lanes on the wing etc.) For him to take the next step in his development, he'll have to learn to not take plays off defensively while becoming a better passer and more selective shooter on offense. He is rightfully confident in that great stroke, but needs to learn to get shots within the team's structure more efficiently.'
5/02 JPM 'Coach Gary D likes Ricky's game and with good reason.  At 6-4 and growing Ricky has a nice perimeter game already and the size for a two guard at the next level.  Ricky has especially good hands.  He catches the ball well on offense and strips it on defense.'  5/02 Ricky is playing for the Ravens 16 & under team and Coaches Gerald Brown and Damon Sambula this summer. He played for coach Artie Green's Kips Bay midget team that won the PRO-STYLE championship in May. As often as not, Ricky led that team in scoring. 2/22/03 Insiders Hoops: Good looking prospect. Has offensive tools, good size and plays in a national caliber high school program. Likes to shoot it from deep and medium range. 3/03 GB # 4.

Anthony Farmer 6'1 guard St. Augustine NJ. 12/18/04 NJ.com  point guards # 1 The Rutgers-bound senior was the driving force behind his team's NJSIAA Parochial A championship last season. The section is called Non-Public A now, but Farmer's explosive game hasn't changed — except for the better. The 6-1 Farmer, who is too strong for most opposing point guards to be stopped one-on-one, enters with more than 1,100 career points.' 12/8/04 Metro Hoops Top 25 Seniors #6-10  # 6.  If the Hermits want to repeat then Farmer must put the squad on his back. If anyone is up for the task it's Anthony. With a state title and a Nike Super Showcase Championship under his belt he is a proven winner.  9/02 NJ Hoops # 3.

3/14/04 Courier Post: It's St. Augustine's day. Guards carry Hermits to crown in overtime against Seton Hall. Once again, Anthony Farmer (picture from Courier Post) steals the spotlight.  On Saturday, Farmer left the shiny, new Ritacco Center buzzed with a masterful 34-point performance in the state Parochial A final. The junior point guard pretty much willed the Hermits to a 69-64 overtime win over Seton Hall Prep.  3/14/04 NJO: No. 2 Seton Hall falls to St. Augustine, 69-64.   NJ Hoops: St. Augustine's edged Seton Hall Prep 69 - 64 in an overtime thriller in the Parochial A State Final.   Philly.com: St. Augustine wins Parochial A state crown. 4/02 Hoop Scoop 'Anthony Farmer is a player with the maturity of a high school junior or senior. He can shoot the three, handle the ball, and get to the basket, plus he plays with savvy and intelligence.'  9/15/02 antdog14: 'Anthony Farmer, was a genuine addition to your list. You only have to ask those who saw him perform as a freshman against Bergen Catholic in State Championship contest. A true frosh.with a load of potential ... also 2 AAU campaigns in the 17u starting at age 14.'  2/22/03 Insiders Hoops:  Projects as a shooting guard in college because he’s wired to be the main scorer for Paul Rodio’s successful Hermits program. Farmer has been the main offensive weapon on his high school team since his sophomore year. Will penetrate and get to the rim. Jump shot to 3-point range will be a point of emphasis as continues to improve.

Gerald "JR" Inman, a 6-7 forward St. Joseph's H.S. Montvale, N.J. 12/18/04 NJ.com power forwards # 3 He averaged 18 points and 10 rebounds last season while guiding his team to the North Jersey, Parochial A semifinals. Far beyond the numbers is an acute sense of when and where certain shots are needed and how he can most effectively spark the defense. Inman, who will head to Rutgers, is a three-point threat and also very good at stepping into the lane for steals.  12/8/04 Metro Hoops Top 25 Seniors # 3. Gerald “JR” Inman 6’9 (St. Josephs Montvale). In my opinion Inman hasn’t scratched the surface of his potential. The wing forward will switch to the 3 spot in college and should flourish. But for right now the state high schoolers will just have to accept him flying over their heads for dunks. This super athlete can post up when required by looks more comfortable on the perimeter.

5/11/04 LFBALL: 'If Hoop Scoop thinks JR Inman is only the 148th best junior in America, they are truly wrong! This kid is a better player than many of the local players mentioned and has the most upside as well.  11/26/03 Daily News: 'Some consider Inman the best junior in the state, partly because he moves so well with and without the ball. When he puts the ball on the floor, he's shown some surprisingly swift moves to the basket for a player his size.'  3/6/03 Metro Hoops: Gerald "JR" Inman, a 6-7, 185 pound sophomore combo forward from St. Joseph's H.S. in Montvale, N.J., is a player to watch in the class of 2005.  9/02 NJ Hoops # 16.

Sean McCurdy 6-1 pg St Anthony, NJ  12/18/04 NJ.com  shooting guards # 2 He was gearing up for a big senior season, but suffered a broken bone to his right foot that will keep him out eight-to-10 weeks, which would mean the season. McCurdy's intelligence, range and competitive fire were key components to St. Anthony's 30-0 finish last season. They will be missed. Luckily, the injury should have no long-term effects on the Arkansas-bound guard.' 12/8/04 Metro Hoops: New Jersey Top Seniors - 15-11. # 13. Sean McCurdy 6’2 Guard (St. Anthony) McCurdy will be called upon to provide the scoring punch the Friars need to repeat. Sean is an excellent defender and a lights out shooter. McCurdy basketball IQ makes up for his lack of athleticism.   9/02 NJ Hoops nr.

5/11/04 LFBALL: 'Now everyone is raving over McCurdy of St. Anthony's. What happened? Did I miss something? This kid is in a great system at St. A's. I watched him at least 4 times and he was decent and destined for a mid major college. He must have gotten better very fast!'  5/19/04  Bob McCurdy: 'The reason Sean is playing so much better in AAU is due to the fact that he is playing his natural position - point guard...@ 6'1" he always had been a point guard....during the season he had to play the "3" most of the time for St. Anthony's due to injuries to other players and the size of Mosby and Mercer..... '  12/03 John P Miciotta: 'He transferred here after moving with his family from Connecticut and fit in very easily with the quick pressing style of the Friars. He has good hands, quick feet and a pretty good touch more from middle distance than from trey. He's hard nosed and competitive like all the Friars and should get better and better these next two years.'  2/22/03 Insiders Hoops: Hard-nosed guard for Bobby Hurley at St. Anthony’s. We appreciate how hard he competes and the way he approaches every possession. Legitimate range from downtown and he’ll make a handful in a game on you.

Vic Morris 6-0 guard Cardozo, NY.  11/9/04 NY Hoops: ' The Fall That Was. Usually when a player kills in the Fall session of IS8 he does big things during the season so Cardozo fans have a lot to be excited bout after Vic Morris’ performance. Vic was dominant throughout the season, and likely would have been the Player of the Year had his team advanced a little deeper in the playoffs. The smooth scoring lefty poured 30 plus points in 5 of his team’s 6 games, the only game he fell short was his 17 point game in JYO’s 21 point victory over Lawrence Woodmere Academy. But when Morris was faced with challenges like in match ups with Edgar Sosa and Terrell McKenzie with the Gauchos squad, or Wayne Ellington with the Playaz Gold or Malcolm Grant and Eugene Harvey with Rock Steady he responded with games of 35, 33 and 32 respectively. Unfortunately for Morris and his JYO. team they came up just short in all 3 of those contests with the loss to Rock Steady coming in the 2nd round of the playoffs. While those games were impressive it was his 1st round playoff game against Doug Wiggins (who is being recruited by the likes of NC State, St. John’s and UConn) and the Fairfield County Stars that Morris really put his stamp on his great season.

Morris was held in check in the first half only scoring just 8 over the first 16 minutes, but the final 16 minutes was a much different story. He overwhelmed the Connecticut team with 28 2nd half points including a 25 foot 3 at the buzzer to give his team a 77-76 win. For his play Morris was awarded a spot on the IS8 Fall 1st team all-tournament. 12/03 John P Miciotta: 'Victor is a quick and explosive player who gets to the basket and finishes plays with good strength. At Cardozo he combines with Nick Flagg to form the best backcourt tandem in the PSAL not matriculating at Lincoln High. His size means he projects as a point guard in college and he can certainly defend quick penetrating guards. The fact that he's a scorer first and playmaker second means he fits better in some systems than others.'  5/02  Coach Glen Steinberg: 'Vic Morris plays for me on the Warriors. Vic is without doubt the real deal. He has superb point guard skills and is able to seemingly effortlessly break down presses himself regardless of the team. If I had to pick out a weakness, I would say his defensive intensity could be better. He can play the 1,2, or 3 and is not a selfish player on the court at all. He plays at the parks constantly and you can see a lot of that in his game coupled with some very nice fundamentals. He currently plays varsity at Cardozo.

Jaron Griffin 6’6 forward Manchester, NJ. 12/18/04 NJ.com  shooting guards # 1 The 6-6 senior has largely played forward the past two years because of his ability to carve through the lane and rebound. Even against considerably bigger teams, he is a force. Griffin can also knock down the jumper, making him likely to play two-guard next season at Rutgers. He averaged 23.5 points and 14 rebounds in 2003-04. 12/8/04 Metro Hoops Top 25 Seniors # 1-5  # 4. Jaron Griffin 6’6 Forward (Manchester). Jaron dominated last season and during the summer by using his physical strength and athleticism. Griffin used his size to post smaller defenders and his quickness to get by bigger opponents. Jaron capped off his off season by winning the MVP for the Metrohoops North/ South Showdown.  Rivals: 'As a junior was the MVP in the 2005 game of the Eddie Griffin Challenge when he had 19 points. Will run, rebound and block shots. Will have to develop his perimeter touch but a potential high-major prospect.'

Marques Johnson 5-11 point guard Raritan, NJ.12/18/04 NJ.com  Point guards # 4  'The Boston U.-bound guard helped lead Raritan to its first group state title last year. He brings quickness and leadership to a team with aspirations of repeating as state champions. Averaged 13.5 points, 6.3 assists and 5.2 steals as a junior.'  12/8/04 Metro Hoops: New Jersey Top Seniors - 15-11. # 15.  Johnson teamed with Mercer to win the IS8 championship for the powerful Playaz. Marques has excellent court vision and can put it in the hole when needed. His deceptive moves and big game posture puts him over the top. Finally Johnson has whatever coach loves in their point guards, the toughness to win big games.

10/04 Marques and Derrick Mercer were the twin point guards for the championship Playaz Black team at IS8 this fall.  5/04 Rivals: 'Johnson runs the show for the New Jersey Wildcats and his play in April was consistent, proving he was a Division one prospect. '

Marquis Jones 5-11 point guard South Plainfield, NJ. 12/18/04 NJ.com  Point guards # 2 'He uses his quick dribble penetration and shooting range to rattle bigger opponents and flaunts his strength and great leaping ability to overmatch players his size or smaller. The 6-0 senior averaged 14.2 points, 8.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists last season for 27-1 South Plainfield.'   12/8/04 Metro Hoops: New Jersey Top Seniors - 15-11. # 11. Marquis Jones 6’3 Guard (South Plainfield) Whichever school decides to give Jones a scholarship will receive a gem. Marquis is a super athlete with a good handle and crazy springs. Look for Jones to have S. Plainfield off the hook again.    12/8/04 Metro Hoops: New Jersey Top Seniors - 15-11. 3/27/04 Home News Tribune: Boys Basketball Player of the Year: South Plainfield's Marquis Jones driven to win.

Chris Lowe 5'10" PG Mt.Vernon (NY)  10/04 Based on his play at IS8 and the NYHoops.com tourney, Chris looks to be one of the most improved players in the region entering in to high school play.  4/5/04 At Playaz Spring Fling the 17 semis the Metro Hawks trailed the Playaz Gold 29-26 at halftime but pulled away for the easy 72-61 win with Herbie Allen's 23  including 4 treys, Chris Martin's 15 (12 in the second half) and Chris Lowe's 12 (10 in the second half, he's pictured). 12/03 John P Miciotta: He should prove to be a worthy successor to Brian Browne and Ernie Brown, who split time at point guard last season for Bob Cimino's team. This despite the fact he too will have lots of competition from Mike Watson and highly regarded freshman Mike Coburn. We like his ability and willingness to distribute the ball to his talented teammates, as well as his knack for making plays in key spots when those teammates (Keith Benjamin, Dexter Gray and Jon Mitchell) are well defended.

Craig Moore 6-3 forward Lawrenceville Prep. 12/18/04 NJ.com  Point guards # 10 'Solid guard played a major, if unsung, on Lawrenceville's state prep championship team a year ago, finishing with 46 3-pointers. He will be counted on to provide senior leadership this year. Will attend Northwestern next year.' 12/7/04 Metro Hoops: New Jersey Top Seniors - 20-16.  # 17. Moore is deadly from behind the arc. If Craig has a chance to square up and set his feet you can put it in the books. The depleted Big Red squad will depend on Moore to get it done. Look for Craig to put in more time at his natural point guard position as he prepares for a future life in the Big Ten.'

Frank Tchuisi 6'10" center St. Benedict's (NJ) 12/18/04 NJ.com  centers # 7 'Though the 6-9 senior averaged just 3.1 points and 2.3 rebounds last season, Villanova sought out — and won — his services based on his tremendous potential. The native of Cameroon is still learning the game and has progressed further defensively than on offense. He led St. Benedict's with 33 blocked shots last season and made 58 percent of his field-goal attempts.' 12/7/04 Metro Hoops: New Jersey Top Seniors - 20-16. # 20.  ' The Nova-bound Tchusisi is very long and active on the defensive boards. Frank tries to block or alter every shot, sometimes leading to early foul trouble. Before heading to the Wildcats Tchusisi must develop his post moves and become patient on defense.'  12/03 John P Miciotta: 'He's got lots of good tools, long arms and legs and nice running ability. He moves tentatively and needs game experience. That may be hard to come by as the Bees are not only loaded but play better with a smaller lineup that can press more effectively. Still he's an intriguing prospect because of his size and raw tools.'

Kevin White 6-0 guard Grady, NY.  10/18/04 NY Post: Future a mystery for Derick Echols and Kevin White Jr.   10/11/04 Daily News: Kevin White Jr.no longer attending August Martin.  10/1/04 Daily News: Ex-coach, Jack Ringel, urging Kevin White to return to Grady.  10/1/04 NY Post: Whites defend transfer.  9/30/04 Daily News: Kevin White turns up at August Martin.   9/28/04 Daily News: Kevin White not at August Martin.  9/28/04 NY Post: Transfer surprises coach James Kearney of August Martin.   9/16/04 Daily News: Stars (seniors Kevin White and Derick Echols) bolting Grady for Lincoln.   12/03 John P Miciotta: 'Kevin's ability is outstanding. He's a good open shooter, passer and penetrator and when his head is in the game, there are few better point guards in this class in our region. That said, he stumbled at times achieving the concentration needed to compete at a high level. In Grady's season opener against Xaverian last year, he made all the plays that gave teammate Jamel White (no relation) the opportunity to win the game with his shooting.

Subsequently his play was a lot more up and down, and reflected the ups and downs of Grady's season. In light of the recent turmoil around Grady's program it may prove difficult to find the measure of consistency both Kevin and the team need. I hope and pray he and the others stay the course as students as well as players. For Kevin a D-I scholarship is at stake because he has that kind of ability.' 2/3/02 Brooklyn Scout: 'At the NY-PA Challenge at Villanova University on Saturday, Grady took control in the second quarter and defeated Council Rock (PA) 60-46. ... Freshman point guard Kevin White and forward Derek Echols were impressive for Grady.'

Mike Davis 6-10 forward Banneker, NY.  12/03 John P Miciotta: 'He has shown terrific athletic ability and quickness for his size playing for the Gauchos this summer. The trouble is, he has not played a great deal for the Clippers even on JV level because of a series of discipline problems which we hope will right themselves with maturity. He's a big lefty who's an exceptionally quick leaper. He runs well, and shows flashes of scoring ability that need to be more consistent for him to improve. When his head is in the game he's really tough and he's taken the game right at some more established big guys. But he needs to bring that effort with him all the time. All of this said, it should be noted that Mike is basically a very good kid, who has come up in difficult circumstances. To take the next step as a player and a person he must learn discipline in both his game and demeanor on the court. Once he does, great things will come his way.'

5/02 JPM 'Runs well, can catch the ball and has a great body for basketball. He's probably physically ready for the varsity next year but with the Clippers' depth Mike would get more time with the JV team. Mike is still raw; his footwork needs a lot of work.  Nonetheless, his potential is enormous; it's the equal of the top tier players in this class.  He plays his AAU ball with Rock Steady Beacon so Mike figures to be around the city for most of the summer - hopefully working on his b'ball fundamentals and schoolwork.'   3/03 GB # 9.

Saiquon Stone 6-3 guard Xaverian, NY.  HS #1,  GB nr. 6/7/05  Providence Journal: Providence College rounds out recruiting class. Saiquon Stone, a 6-foot-5 forward from Xaverian High, gave his verbal commitment Sunday. 12/03 John P Miciotta: 'He saw substantial time on varsity as a sophomore last season and wasted no time making his presence felt. He's another kid with great size for a guard who passes the ball very well. He's more of a scorer than a shooter, using a long first step that gets him by defenders. He also covers ground laterally more with long steps than with quickness but the same way he sees the floor well offensively, he sees it well defensively and reads situations to make steals and draw charges very well. If he improves physically and can add consistent range to his jumper look out. He will be a big time prospect.'

5/02 JPM 'Saquon is right there with Tiki, Shahee and Terrell as one of the best players in this class. He's a terrific, all purpose, athletic player who has a nice feel for the game.  He may be on the varsity next season.'  7/00 Reggie Lain is running the First Presbyterian midget team at IS8 helped by Saiquon Stone and Eugene Locker.  3/03 GB # 8.

Kahiem Seawright 6'7" forward Uniondale, LI  5/2/04 Newsday: 'All-Long Island boys basketball team includes A J Price, Kahiem Seawright, Clarence Alonzo, Alex Anderson, John Garcia, Danny Green, Jon Han, Bryant Lassiter, James St. Robert and Darrell Wonge. Seawright led Uniondale to a 21-2 season and its first Class AA Long Island championship. He averaged 18 points, 13 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 blocks.' 12/03 John P Miciotta: 'Physical forward who rebounds very aggressively and can run the floor. Offensively he is improving steadily.'   7/4/03 Rivals: 'Kahiem Seawright (Long Island Panthers) 6-foot-7 power forward Very long and active... finishes well on the break and off the glass.'

Paul Gause 5'11 guard Elmer (Schalick) NJ. 12/18/04 NJ.com shooting guards # 3 'In his squad's uptempo game, Gause is the spark and smooth finishing touch. The 5-11 senior scored 31 points a game last season after averaging 29.5 as a sophomore. He originally had given a verbal commitment to James Madison, but rescinded to consider football offers following his All-State season as a two-way back.'  12/8/04 Metro Hoops Top 25 Seniors #6-10 # When Gause is in the building get the fire extinguisher ready because he loves to burn the nets. The states leading scorer a year ago hasn’t average under 25pts per game since entering high school. Paul has quickness to get to the hole and unlimited range on his jumper. Gause also has a solid frame that fights off defenders when he penetrates.   9/02 NJ Hoops # 4. 1/30/04 Courier Post: Paul Gause goes for 46 in Schalick win.  1/2/04 Courier Post: Many gazing at Paul Gause. Schalick star is showing he's more than a shooter.  9/14/03 Courier Online: Illness can't stop `Great Gause'.  3/30/01 South Jersey News: An eighth-grade all-star game will be played at 1 PM.in the Al Carino Boys Basketball Club of South Jersey. The players include Paul Gause, Pittsgrove Middle. 1/03 It's an awesome January for Paul. He scores 35, 37, 41, 43 and 45 against Penns Grove, Pitman, Wildwood, Depthford and Schalick.   9/02 NJH # 4.

Ahmad Nivins 6-9 St Anthony, NJ.  12/18/04 NJ.com centers # 3 The 6-9 Nivins was gradually eased into the lineup last season after becoming eligible in mid-January (he had transferred). He worked hard under the boards, sometimes dominating, but had difficulty reaching a comfortable stride as an offensive player. He hopes to elevate that aspect of his game substantially now with teammate Sean McCurdy out at least eight weeks with a broken foot. Nivins is committed to Saint Joseph's in Philadelphia.'  12/8/04 Metro Hoops Top 25 Seniors #6-10  # 9. After transferring in last year, Nivins had a limited role for the Friars. But with a full year of boot camp under General Hurley, Nivins should take it to the next level. Ahmad loves to attack the glass and rim. He rips down rebounds and tries to contest every shot. Nivins doesn’t mind running the floor to get rewarded for his dirty work.

4/21/04 Ahmad is playing with the New Heights Warriors this summer. 4/21/04 InsidersHoops: New Jersey Junior Big Man Poised to Open Eyes - 2005 Focus: Ahmad Nivins.  11/03 SchoolSports  'Junior Ahmad Nivins (6-8) will be eligible in January after having to sit out nine games due to transfer rules, and he'll give Hurley some help up front.'  6/22/03 The Friars have got two Ahmads ready for playing time - 5-11 senior point guard Ahmad Mosby is recuperating from an injury and will challenge for point guard minutes, while 6-8 Ahmad Nivens is transferring from County Prep in Jersey City, will be eligible next week to provide a capable backup for Barney Anderson.

Johnny Garcia 6-9 center Brentwood, LI.   5/2/04 Newsday: 'All-Long Island boys basketball team includes A J Price, Kahiem Seawright, Clarence Alonzo, Alex Anderson, John Garcia, Danny Green, Jon Han, Bryant Lassiter, James St. Robert and Darrell Wonge. Garcia, a finalist for Suffolk Player of the Year, led Brentwood to the Suffolk Class AA semifinals after an 18-1 regular season. He averaged 16 points, 13 rebounds and 4 blocks, and has 655 career points.'  5/04 Johnnie is playing with Team Roc at IS8 this spring.

Herbie Allen 5’10 PG Bishop Loughlin. 5/04 Rivals: 'Herbie Allen is a prolific scoring guard and shooter. Herbie is a shooter with a quick trigger who needs to be shadowed on the perimeter. He is quick to the hole with good lateral quickness. 3/04 Along with Levance Fields, Herbie is one of the most improved players in this class. He's talented and tough but slightly built. Herbie plays for the Metro Hawks this summer.  5/17/04 NewYorkInsider: Herbie Allen Receives An Offer from Rider.

Reid Whitman 6'8" BF Trinity Pawling (NY)  12/03 John P Miciotta: 'Manhattan native who spent his freshman season at Loyola High in the city and transferred to Trinity for improved basketball competition. He is a long and skilled forward who shoots well facing up and can score a bit with his back to the basket. He played very well, and competed well on the glass against older and stronger players when I got to see him. And any coach who loves the fundamentals of boxing out will love this kid. He does it perfectly, finds a man, stays between he and the basket, and once he can see how the ball will come off the rim goes and gets it. He's a very likely division one recruit, at what level will depend on how he matures physically.'

Jesse Sapp 6-3 shooting guard National Christian Academy, Md. 3/03 GB # 13. 5/04  Jesse is starting and starring for the Gauchos, teaming in their backcourt with Levance Fields. He is a native New Yorker who attended a number of NYC public schools before heading for Maryland. On the court he's a nice 'catch and shoot' player.

Chris Martin  5-11 guard, Christ the King, NY.    HS #2.  6/18/05 Scout.com: Chris Martin will prep at Maine Central Institute.  12/03 John P Miciotta: 'Chris had an outstanding first varsity season for the Royals and quickly became an important part of a veteran team and helped them to the city and state finals. He is a strong and quick guard who takes the ball to the basket well and strokes the jumper. He's a very good defensive guard and can use his strength to turn dribblers. Save for some missed free throws in the state finals, he played very well in the Royals run to the finals. His shot selection must get better though as he is counted on to assume a greater leadership role this year.'   5/02 JPM 'Chris was the starting point guard for the freshman CHSAA champion Royals and played for coach Artie Cox on the SONDAY Express II team at IS8 this spring. Chris is learning to score. He already has a good jumper, runs a team well and plays solid defense. Japhet McNeil will be the senior starting point guard for CTK next season but Chris may have a shot at playing for the varsity next season.

3/2/02 John Miciotta 'Christ the King used late clutch free throw shooting by Chris Martin and Hakeem Gooding to beat Rice for the City freshman title. Martin and Gooding combined to make six free throws in the last minute all in "one-and-one" situations to earn the win in a game where Rice used its inside game to slow the tempo down. Gooding, Martin, and smooth shooting lefty Niko Scott starred for CK.  8/22/98 City championships results: Super Biddy - Panthers 45 First Presbyterian 35. Joseph Vines with 13 points wins MVP award and is helped by Leon Falconer and Christopher Martin with 11 and 8 points.  10/12/00  JAH634:  'Chris plays for the Panthers and plays AAU basketball. Won 2000 City-wide basketball tournament. Great scorer who can drive very effectively.'  3/03 GB # 3.

Semaj Inge 6-4 forward Camden Wilson, NJ.12/18/04 NJ.com  Point guards # 8  The 6-3 senior evolved from distributor to scorer last season and helped Wilson reach the semifinals in Group 3, where it fell to Manasquan. With several regulars gone, Inge's scoring touch and floor leadership will again be appreciated.' 12/8/04 Metro Hoops Top 25 Seniors #6-10  # 8.  After a strong high school season, Inge used the Nike All American Camp as a launching pad. The South Jersey guard prefers running the show and dishing to teammates. Semaj is very athletic and buries the three ball.    5/04  Semaj played for the South Jersey entry at IS8 this spring but they forfeited their first round playoff game.   3/5/04 Courier Post: Forward or backward, these twins can play. James and Semaj Inge, who are twins, have been vital to Woodrow Wilson's success.

Vernon Teel 6-1 guard Flushing, NY.  6/12/04 Vernon is pictured far left with his uncle, Mr. Wayne Cox, principal of Wings Academy and his son, Marcus Cox, at the Rumble in the Bronx. 4/04 Vernon averaged 27.5 points, 11 rebounds and almost 4 assists for the Flushing Red Devils this past season. He was the leading scorer for the NY Panthers entry in the 6th Annual Necelina McDonald Tournament at JHS 275 in Brownsville, where his team lost in the semifinal.

Andrew Pusar 6-1 Seton Hall Prep, NJ  12/18/04 NJ.com  shooting guards # 5 'He is a solid shooter and ballhandler, a shrewd defender and always tough on the boards. Pusar's real strength, though, is his ability to get the big rebound, loose ball and basket at the most critical time. He's a blue-collar player, but one with pedigree. His father played for Yale and he will continue at Harvard next year.'  12/7/04 Metro Hoops: New Jersey Top Seniors - 20-16.  # 18. The future Ivy Leaguer is a perfect fit for the Pirates offence. Andrew can hit the open jumper especially when running off picks. Puser also can get to the cup and finish in traffic.   9/02 NJ Hoops # 5. 5/02 t-bone 'Plays AAU with the Vince Carter Playaz, .yeah, you heard right, the Vince Carter Playaz..(Tim Thomas Playaz and the Vince Carter Playaz are the same club.  Now Jim Salmon has Nike and Adidas on lock)! Andrew is a great outside shooter.'

6/3/01 T-Bone:  'some from the Metro Hoops Phenom Camp this past weekend at Rutgers University in NJ. The top players in attendance included ... Andrew Pusar (top 5 8th grader in NJ going to Seton Hall Prep).'  09/02 NJH # 5.

Terence Grier 5-11 guard  Cranford NJ. 12/18/04 NJ.com  shooting guards # 6 After a magical sophomore season in which he helped Cranford to the Group 3 final, Grier had to struggle mightily to keep his young team competitive last season. The exciting playmaker averaged 22 points, but Cranford finished 9-14. A more experienced team should mean more creative freedom for the 6-0 senior.  12/8/04 Metro Hoops: New Jersey Top Seniors - 15-11. # 12. Terrence Grier 6’2 Guard (Cranford) Once again Terrence will be a one man show for Cranford. This explosive guard has a sick crossover and unlimited range. To succeed on the next level Grier must enhance his decision making and shot selection.    9/02 NJ Hoops # 71 5/03 Watchung Conference: In past years, it's been up in the air and debatable as to who's the top player in the Watchung Conference. Not This Year!! Terence Grier of Cranford has "All Eyes on Him".   03/08/03 tbone: 'When you update the class of 2005 include Terence Grier of Cranford HS.  Averaged 23 pts a game this year for Cranford.  Plays AAU with the MSU Skyliners AAU Program and possibly the NJ Roadrunners, and after this summer, will most likely be a TT Playaz, NJ All Star.  Has ups and range.  Came into his game real nice this season.. Will jump from ranked #71 in the state of NJ in the sophomore class to around #6.'

William Harris 6-4 forward Redemption Christian Academy. NY 12/01 GB # 23  12/03 John P Miciotta: 'Queens native who previously attended Christ the King and has been reclassified for this group. First and foremost it should be noted that the reclassification was not done for academic reasons. In fact William is a well motivated student. He is a tough physical forward whose perimeter skills are a work in progress. He works hard, hustles and attacks the glass, his game is similar in many ways to St. Ray's forward Brian Laing though he's not as explosive. His shooting is improving mainly off the catch. He's a certain D-I prospect, how he improves his wing skills both offensively and defensively will determine what level.'   5/03 Louis Xifaras: 'Will is developing into a serious wing player. After entering Redemption Christian Academy and being reclassified, Will has taken basketball very seriously. He is in great shape, and is starting to be spoken about as a shooting threat. Still a little slow with the dribble, Will finds the open man and rarely commits unforced turnovers with the ball. The only thing keeping this well-rounded young man from being a nationally known player right now is his lack of defensive intensity. If you know Will personally you know what im talking about.'

5/02 JPM 'Bob Oliva considers William to be the Y2K version of Carl Beckett - a 6-4, 215 pound tough forward with good hands and a relentless attitude on the court. William is developing a face up game, but not yet to three point range. He can defend threes and fours but not twos. Brian Beckford may be the most talented player from this past season's CTK JV, but William may be the most important for next year's success.'

Chris Bethel, 6-5 forward, St Raymond, Bronx  2/22/03 Insiders Hoops: Earned minutes as a sophomore for a Top 25 St. Raymond's program. Skinny but plays inside. 3/03 GB # 15.

Tyson Johnson 6-4 forward St Mary, LI  5/03 Ty is playing this spring for his father, coach Sly Johnson, and the Manhasset All Stars at IS8 and at Pro Style.  Their junior team lost the Pro Style championship game to Team Roc despite an 18 point effort from Ty.  5/02 JPM 'Tyson can play.  He's got nice size, an advanced perimeter game, he can shoot and has good hands.  He played for St Marys freshman team this past season but he may have a shot at the varsity next year. Tyson played for the LI Raiders at PRO-STYLE this winter and was the Midget division's leading scorer.'

Consistency will be a factor for both young players to help this team.' 3/03 GB # 24. 2/28/00 Coach Sly Johnson: '5'-10" pf - in IS8 Summer Tourn. Blocked five of Ray Arnold's (GB#1at the time) shots and sacrificed his offense for defense.'

Andre Davis 6-4 Piscataway, NJ  12/6/04 Metro Hoops: New Jersey Top Seniors - 21-25.  # 23.'Andre Davis 6’4 Forward (St. Patricks). Andre played the big man role for the Celtics last season. He bangs well against bigger opponents and finishes around the basket. Davis role should be a little different this season with the return of Derrick Caracter. After dropping about 10 pounds off his frame Andre looks focused.' 5/02 t-bone 'Andre Davis is now at Piscataway HS. He transferred from St.Pats for personal reasons. Probably the most dominate big man in the class behind Biggs, Andre plays AAU with the MSU Skyliners.'

Wellington Smith 6-6 forward, Summit, NJ.  12/18/04 NJ.com  power forwards # 5 'Smith's ability to score and defend in the paint was no more apparent than his 21-point, 10-block performance that helped upset Hillside, 69-66, last year in the North Jersey, Section 2, Group 2 semifinals. That wasn't exactly an anomaly, though, as the 6-6 senior averaged 15.1 points and four blocks.'

Shawn Hilliard 6'5 forward Wings, NYC.  11/3/04 Coach Tony Bergeron: 'Our headline players include 6-6 senior Shawn Hillard, a St Raymond transfer,'  12/02 Ricky Torres and Chris Bethel make the varsity but Shawn is not on the roster at the beginning of the season. 3/03 GB # 17.

Barney Anderson 6-5 St Anthony, NJ. 12/18/04 NJ.com  power forwards # 6 'The 6-6 senior has primarily been known for his defensive versatility and rebounding, but he often surprises with his ability to lead the offense, as well. He scored 23 last season in a victory over Raritan, 21 to help beat New York's St. Raymond's and led with 15 in the Tournament of Champions victory over Bloomfield Tech. Anderson will continue at Rider.'   12/6/04 Metro Hoops: New Jersey Top Seniors - 21-25.  # 21. 'Barney is the glue guy for General Hurley’s army. Anderson rebounds, set picks and plays great defense. Barney was rewarded for his hard work and team first attitude by taking home the MVP trophy from last season Tournament of Champions.'

9/02 NJ Hoops # 7. 12/03 John P Miciotta: 'SF/PF I position him at both spots because while he's one of only two players who figure in the Friars' rotation that have any size his college position projects as small forward. First and foremost, it should be noted that while he often gives up both height and bulk around the basket he more than makes up for it with tremendous hustle and quickness to the ball. The way he moves in St. A's press also indicates that he has quick enough feet to defend small forwards but he needs to develop offense for that spot. Right now he scores mainly on put backs baseline drives, and in transition so he may be best suited for a system where the small forward is more a baseliner than a traditional wing player. His development should be watched closely because the arrival of Ahmad Nivens, a talented 6'8" junior should allow him to play more like a forward and develop the kind of offensive game he will need for the next level.'

Alvin Mofunanya 6-7 forward Dwight Morrow, NJ. 12/18/04 NJ.com  power forwards -- not mentioned.  6/04 Alvin is the Dwight Morrow mobile and muscular big man who can occasionally step out for a three pointer. He did well at And 1 and again at the Eastern Invitational.
Dan Stonkis 6-10 South Brunswick, NJ. 12/18/04 NJ.com  centers # 8 The 6-10 senior can change a game with his ability to block shots and clog the middle. Stonkus is also a willing and aggressive rebounder. If he can score more consistently, like he did during an eight-game stretch last January when he averaged 11 points, he would boost his value immensely and make South Brunswick a very tough out in Middlesex County.' 12/6/04 Metro Hoops: New Jersey Top Seniors - 21-25. # 25. Dan Stonkus 6’10 Center (South Brunswick). Stonkus has shown tremendous progress over his career. The big lefty has a soft touch, improved footwork and a will to rebound. This should be the year Big Dan puts it all together. Look for Stonkus scoring and rebound averages to rise significantly. 9/02 NJ Hoops # 9.

1/04 Metro Hoops: 'Dan Stonkis (pictured blocking shot) recorded his second straight triple-double by recording 11 points, 18 rebounds and 12 blocked shots to lead the 5-1 Vikings, who jumped to an 18-0 lead and never looked back.'

Derek Mercer 5'9" PG St. Anthony's (NJ) 12/18/04 NJ.com  point guards # 3 When talking about this program's top defensive guards of all-time, this 5-8 senior has to be a big part of the conversation. His quick feet and hands make him a terrific on-ball defender, while his intelligence and will help form a complete package. Mercer, headed to American University in Washington, D.C., also runs the floor with confidence.

12/8/04 Metro Hoops: New Jersey Top Seniors - 15-11. # 14.  When I first saw Mercer play as a freshmen I figured he was another St. Anthony miniature guard, scrappy, play defense and run the team. But I noticed Derrick refused to be typical. He started to develop his jump shot and offensive moves. Mercer turned into a legitimate offensive threat. Derrick’s hard work was rewarded with hardware when he won the MVP of the championship game at the prestigious IS8 this fall.  12/03 John P Miciotta: 'Speedy point man who quickly assumed an important place in the Friars line-up as a sophomore last season. The combination of his speed pushing the ball up the court, and his ability to shoot the trey off the catch may remind some long time St. A's observers of former Villanova standout Kenny Wilson. Also like Kenny he wears number 3 but unlike Kenny he's right handed. Derek also fits the typical St. A's profile because of his terrific defensive intensity, quick feet and quick hands.'

Hashim Bailey 6-10 center Passaic Tech, NJ. 12/18/04 NJ.com centers # 5 'The 6-10, 245-pound senior impressed many last season by helping this team to a 24-6 record and a trip to the Group 4 semifinals, where it lost to Plainfield. Bailey continued to make strides during the summer as a shooter and passer. Passaic Tech may go a long way again behind his steady play.'  3/04 NorthJersey: Hasim made All North Jersey first team.  'Key stats: 18 points, 14.9 rebounds, 4.5 blocked shots. Fast fact: "Big City" led Tech to Passaic final and led County in rebounds and blocked shots.'

Niko Scott 6'2  guard Christ the King, NY. 5/17/04 NewYorkInsider: Niko Scott Has Big Summer Ahead.  12/03 John P Miciotta: 'Lefthander who is the best shooter who stayed on jv level last season. Has a nice quick release and deep range. He's a smart player and a good passer. Although the three point basket is his bread and butter he plays best when he doesn't look for it exclusively and makes mid range shots. He can come off screens and launch it with one or two dribbles. He's a great student and a great kid.'   5/02 JPM 'Niko is a 6-2 lefty wing player who projects to a two guard. He is a Manhattan resident on an academics (90 + average) at Christ the King.  Niko can shoot, has a good head for the game but needs to improve his strength and conditioning to move to the varsity level.'

3/2/02 John Miciotta 'Gooding, Martin, and smooth shooting lefty Niko Scott starred for CK, while talented lefty Ronald Manigualt and Marques Cox each had fine games for Rice.'

Brian Connelly 6-7 forward Camden Catholic, NJ  12/18/04 NJ.com  Power forwards # 7 'He was a dependable interior force when his team won 16 of its first 18 games last season. The production of the backcourt dropped somewhat in following games, but Connelly remained steady to finish with a 12.2 scoring average for his 19-5 squad. The 6-8 forward will continue at Albany.'  04/02 Hoop Scoop 'Brian Connelly is a mobile four-man who is best in the high post, where he can pass, slash, and shoot.'  3/30/01 South Jersey News: An eighth-grade all-star game will be played at 1 PM in the Al Carino Boys Basketball Club of South Jersey. The players on the Black team include Brian Connelly, St. Rose of Lima.'   9/02 NJ Hoops # 10

James Tchana, 6-7 power forward, Our Savior New American, LI. 12/03 John P Miciotta: 'His wide body, ability to run the floor and soft hands are reminiscent of Antonio Pena but right now his game is even more "box to box" if you will than Antonio's. I love the way he sits in the post. He provides guards with a big target and one they can trust to catch the ball. His foot work is improving and how much it does will determine if he's recruitable by high majors. He held his own at ABCD as a junior and that's pretty impressive and it indicates that he's learning to compete at a high level.'  2/22/03 Insiders Hoops: Wide bodied big man has the look of a good player. As a sophomore at Our Savior was given limited playing time but was active and produced when afforded the opportunity.  3/03 GB # 11.

Dereck Echols 6'4 forward Grady, NY. 12/03 John P Miciotta: 'He is a tough, physical rebounder with a good nose for the ball whose perimeter skills are still developing. He has become a more efficient finisher on the break.'  5/02 JPM 'Dereck played for Brooklyn USA as a tough, very physical rebounder with a great nose for the ball. He's a good defender who moves laterally well enough now to guard on the perimeter. Dereck shows flashes of offense, but that aspect of his game is still a work in progress. Dereck currently plays for coach Jake Edwards and the Brooklyn Falcons.'  2/3/02 Brooklyn Scout: 'At the NY-PA Challenge at Villanova University on Saturday, Grady took control in the second quarter and defeated Council Rock (PA) 60-46. ... Freshman point guard Kevin White and forward Derek Echols were impressive for Grady.'  3/03 GB # 31.

Tyrone Cook 6-3 St Patrick, NJ. 12/18/04 NJ.com  Shooting guards Others to watch Tyrone Cook5/02 t-bone '1 more year before Mr.Cook helps out Coach Boyle at St.Patricks. Ty is 6 '3 and solid, he has the biggest calves you'll see on a 14 year old. Plays AAU with the MSU Skyliners and Playground Bearcats. (future Long Island Panther, trust me), a Junior ABCD player.'   9/02 NJ Hoops # 27.

Doug Elwell 6-4,  forward Msgr. Farrell, SI. GB # 20.  5/02 JPM 'Doug has tremendous skills and only time will tell if he fully develops. He won't get the highest level of competition playing in Staten Island but his skills and game are currently comparable to Saquon Stone.  Doug plays with the Staten Island Lightning and the Warriors. That should provide him with some serious AAU competition.'   5/29/00 .2000 New York Metropolitan AAU Boys Championship at Island Garden: --  In the third game the Lightning finally won, but it was the Staten Island, not Long Island version.  They beat the Manhassett All Stars 66 - 54 in the 13u game.  Doug Elwell (Gameball #20) is the Staten Island star center; he had 16 points for the winners.'  3/03 GB # 23.

Akeem Gooding 6'3 forward Christ the King, NY. 12/03 John P Miciotta: 'Hakeem is the best athlete of a fine junior class at Christ the King. His explosiveness and fine body control help him be a good finisher in transition. His shooting needs work but he elevates on the jumper and just needs to improve his technique and release the ball at the peek of his jump all the time. Defensively he can already guard small forwards, and some off guards. And he's a good enough rebounder that he'll be able to give CK some minutes at the power forward spot.'  5/02 JPM 'Akeem is the stepbrother of Hofstra forward, Osei Miller. He is a Brooklyn kid who is both an inside and outside player who appears to have room to grow a few more inches. Akeem has good small forward potential and a knack for scoring.  He was one of the stars of the CTK championship freshman team but with the team's varsity depth Akeem may be playing JV ball next season.'  3/03 GB # 21.

Nayan Boateng 6'3 forward  Lincoln, NY.  12/03 John P Miciotta: 'He has already emerged as a star for Dennis O'Connor's football program at Lincoln and will likely do the same for Tiny Morton's basketball program this winter. He gave basketball coaches and fans an indication of how good he could be this summer playing for both SONDAY and the Gauchos. He's an explosive wing player who may be the best athlete in this class in the PSAL and perhaps all of New York City. He takes it strong to the basket and can make jump shots. Defensively, his lateral movement is excellent, he's long, and has good wiry strength that helps him defend off guards. He can be a bit too aggressive at times looking for his own shot but that's not an indication of a selfish kid in this instance. Nyan is just a kid who gives his team everything he has, and is the kind of guy who'll often make up for poor shot selection by diving on the floor or making a hustle play at the other end. He's very coachable and a really good kid but for now sometimes needs to be reminded of time and score situations and other things that affect his decisions. By all accounts his size and 4.4 speed in the 40 make him an elite football prospect. If he can play more under control he'll be one in basketball also.' 5/02 JPM 'Nayan is an aggressive wing player, an ok defender who can sometimes overshoot. He played on the varsity last year and may be a factor next season as an energetic, athletic player with sizeable growth potential.'  2/27/01  Hassan Jennings and Anthony Meyers assist Pete Edwards at IS8 -- scorebooks, clock, mike, security -- whatever.  They saw every game of this winter classic and gave me their tournament all star picks on short notice. Hassan Midgets:  Mike Johnson MVP,  Chris Martin,  Nayan Bouteng (Sportsmanship award), Joe Vines and Raymell Rice.  2/22/03 Insiders Hoops: Started his high school career by playing alongside super guard Sebastian Telfair. Has a strong wing body and likes to fire away from downtown.  3/03 GB # 22.

Chris Andrews 5-9, point guard Seton Hall Prep, NJ 12/18/04 NJ.com  point guards # 7 'He combines mature court leadership with an ability to completely disrupt an opposing offense with his perimeter defense. Assists and steals are Andrews' specialty, though the 5-9 senior also is a surprisingly strong rebounder and an effective scorer when needed. He has committed to Yale.'  12/7/04 Metro Hoops: New Jersey Top Seniors - 20-16.  # 16. - Chris has always heard that he was good but too small. Now you can throw the small talk out the window because Andrews got game. The Yale bound point guard has the quickness and court vision to control a game. But Chris’ true weapon is his pull up jumper. When Andrew catches the pass around the pick he reminds me of Jayson Williams in his Duke days. He keeps defenders off balance with up fakes and crisp moves.  3/4/04 MSG Network: Chris Andrews -- Seton Hall mini-point guard leads with giant heart.

Terrell Elliston 5'10 guard All Hallows, NY.  12/03 John P Miciotta: 'While other players in this class may have improved some skill or gotten stronger no one in the city has made a more important transformation than Terrell, who has grown from a one-dimensional guy who was a scorer into a terrific all-around point guard. Yes he's still a solid open shooter and can get to the basket with his quick first step and cross over, but now he thinks the game like a point guard. His shot selection is much better not only because he's thinking about time and score situations, but because he thinks about the flow of the game and how involved his team mates are. He has always been a good on the ball defender and had a knack for making steals in the Gaels' press.'  7/19/03 John P Miciotta: 'Terrell Elliston continued his transformation from undersized scoring guard to point guard with scoring skills and is getting better and better.' 5/02 JPM 'Terrell  is the Mt Carmel graduate who with Codi Oliver is one of two fine point guard  freshmen at All Hallows.  Physically, Terrell is good in all phases of the game - he's quick, a good dribbler and a good shooter.  Terrell plays for the Riverside Church AAU team.  To get playing time next year he'll have to improve the mental aspects of his game - distribute and protect the ball, keep your teammates involved in the offense.'

Mike Johnson 5-10 point guard Holy Cross, NYC  12/03 John P Miciotta: 'Mike is one of a trio of quick and tough small guards who will be on the court together a lot for the Knights this season, and give them a look similar to All Hallows. Of the trio, Mike is the best point guard. he pushes it up, gets in the lane and can find open shooters. He's not a physical defender but he's quick and alert. He's also got a terrific motor that goes full blast at that end of the court from beginning to end.'  7/19/03 John P Miciotta: 'Johnson, who's 5'10" appears to be the best of the guards. He pushes the tempo, gets in the lane, shoots from mid range and defends.'  7/15/03 In the first games at St Ray's this afternoon, Holy Cross ambushed Bloomfield Tech 84 - 81. The Knight's junior point guard Mike Johnson added 21, including some late free throw makes to hold off the BT charge.'

Damani Corbin 5-11 point guard FDA, NYC.  4/04 Damani averaged 14.75 points, 6.50 rebounds and 7.44 assists per game this past season for the FDA Lions who went 16-0 in Manhattan's division 1A.  Damani is the FDA glue for a team that also returns Stephen McKoy, Corey Lyons and Ivan Rodriguez giving the Lions four returning double digit scorers for next season.  4/04 Coach Pat Mangan: 'Damani is improving in his third year in our program. Defensively he is becoming a good on the ball defender, and is doing a very good job of making the extra pass.'

Joseph Vines 6-3, forward, Holy Cross, NY.  GB #9.  5/02 JPM 'Joseph was not eligible at the IABO freshmen tournament this season, but he is a strong post player.'   8/22/98  City championships results: Super Biddy -  Panthers 45  First Presbyterian  35.  Joseph Vines with 13 points wins MVP award for Panthers. 10/12/00  JAH634:  'Joe is on Gauchos in Nationals. He is a 6-0 center who is a great scorer. He plays AAU basketball.'

Adam Walker 6-6 forward Christ the King, NY.  12/03 John P Miciotta: 'An improving big man who likely benefited from spending last season on the JV level. He is first of all a kid with great tools, good quickness long arms and pretty good hands. His foot work in the post is very solid and he has a soft shooting touch around the basket. He will need to get stronger physically and tougher mentally but he has the talent to be an excellent varsity player and eventually a very good college prospect.' 5/02 JPM 'Adam and his fraternal twin brother, 6-4 Lamont moved up from North Carolina this past year. Adam is a raw but potentially dominating big man talent. He runs the floor well and is learning to block shots.  Adam was on the Holy Cross roster this spring at IS8 but he should soon be joining Artic Cox as a member of the SONDAY Express team. Adam figures to be learning tricks of the trade next season on the Royal junior varsity team.   3/03 GB # 14.

Eric Price 6' PG/SG Blair Academy (NJ) 10/04 Unfortunately, 6-1 senior point guard Eric Price transferred out of Blair Academy to Coastal Christian Academy. 12/03 John P Miciotta: 'Baltimore native who makes our list because he's prepping at Blair. He is a strong physical guard who pushes the ball up and finds people well on the break. Defends on the ball very well. Just needs more experience running a half court offense. Likely high major prospect.'

Jamel Jackson 6-2 shooting guard Lincoln, NY. 4/10/05 The Post's All PSAL team includes player of the year Jamel Jackson.

Shahee Martin, 6-6 forward West Hempstead (LI)  9/02 NJ Hoops # 2. 12/03 John P Miciotta: 'A Queens native who transferred here after spending his freshman year at Paramus Catholic. He's very mature physically but to his credit has maintained guard skills although I'm sure some coaches have been tempted to put him under the basket. He's a good shooter and defender who's unselfish, defends, and can help on the boards.' 5/02 JPM 'Shahee is originally from  IS 226, Queens. He is currently one of the best players in this class.  He has a well developed perimeter game but can play the post position too.  Shahee is an ok passer, can shoot reliably almost to three point range and can play defense both inside and out of the paint. Shahee played for the Gauchos at IS8 this spring.'  3/29/02 Rich Wejnert: 'Shahee Martin, 6'5" PF from Paramus Catholic High School, was named Suburban Area Freshmen of the Year by New Jersey's Ridgewood News. Shahee led the Paladins in scoring, @15.7 points per game, averaged 11.8 rebs. per night, and was critical in PC's first visit to the Bergen County Jamboree Final Four. He is currently rated the #1 freshman in NJ by NJ HOOPS.' 11/99  Shahee played for the L I Panthers, 13 and under team for the Gauchos Fall Roundball Classic averaging 9.5 ppg.  2/00:  Shahee is playing for Ajax at IS8 Jumpman Winter League.  3/03 GB # 5.

Michael Henderson 6-3 shooting guard Linden NJ. 12/21/04 Metro Hoops: Coming out party for Mike Henderson. 'Henderson caught fire and didn’t let up. The senior guard jumper was water as he was in an apparent scoring zone. With 50 points well in reach Linden coaches showed great sportsmanship by yanking him with 6:00 to go in the game. Henderson ended with a new Tip Off classic record 38 points.' 12/18/04 NJ.com  point guards # 8 'A young team searching for leadership last season found a reliable figure in the 6-3 Henderson. He averaged 18.5 points and 11 rebounds and was often the leader in steals and assists. He provides tough, heady defense and is a threat to score from various spots.'

Chad Barnes 6-0 point guard,  Newark University, NJ. 12/18/04 NJ.com  point guards # 5 'The 6-0 senior comfortably moved between shooting guard and point guard the last two years to help University to a combined 36-11 record during that span. He will also spend some time at the two this season so his club can profit from his range and slashing ability.'

Terron Murray 6-6 forward Camden, NJ. 12/18/04 NJ.com  small forwards # 6 Earlier last season, Murray, then a junior, was content to bang the boards and defend inside while seniors Shomari Moore and Wayne Smalls took most of the shots. The 6-6 Murray grew more comfortable with the ball in his hands as the season wore on, opening up the Camden offense as the team finished 16-8.'

Ray Arnold 5-11 guard  Bayside, NY.  GB #2.  HS #12.  5/02 JPM 'Ray's an explosive two guard who many thought would be playing at Christ the King this year.  He's at Bayside. He's a good scorer, defender and passes well (perhaps well enough to eventually move to the point). Ray is a streaky shooter who used to play for the Springfield Rifles but is now playing for Artie Cox and the SONDAY Express.'  7/11/99 Biddies (12 under - usually sixth graders) play at IS8 on Sunday morning. The Rifles' Ray Arnold (Gameball #1) is the best player on the court and scores most of his team's points. But Manhasset Allstars lead all the way, hanging on to win 36 - 34.   7/17/99 Biddies The Rifles' Ray Arnold (Gameball #1) and Jarrett Petty score 18 and 16 points to easily take Elmcor 50 - 37.   8/15/99 . The Manhasset All Stars won the Biddie division against the Rifles 51 - 50. With a second to go Trevone Hughes (Gamegall #19) of the Rifles had two foul shots. He made them both but the ref called a lane violation (!) on the second shot. The Rifles Trevonne Hughes, Ray Arnold and Jarrett Petty are a great trio, but Manhassett has the depth.

7/00 Ray and Trevonne are leading the Rifles Midget team this summer at IS8. 3/03 GB # 19.

Nick Smith 6-7 forward, Colonia, NJ 12/18/04 NJ.com  small forwards # 8 'Last year in his junior season, the 6-7 wing man diversified his game, averaging 18.4 points as he became a much more legitimate post presence to go with his well-refined perimeter skills. Now, in addition to being a consistent offensive threat facing the basket, Smith can mix it up inside and go strong to the basket. The development of slick point guard Zach Rosen, now a sophomore, has also helped advance Smith's game.

Aleek Pauline 5'9 point guard St. Marys, LI.  5/02 JPM 'Aleek is a very good, very put together (limited growth potential?) point guard for the Gael's freshman team.  He's a fine penetrator, has a good jump stop move and is strong enough to be a good defender.  He's heady and he's poised. His shooting is streaky and needs work to be consistent.  Aleek has a chance to make the varsity next season.'  3/3/02 Hassan Jenkins and Anthony Meyers picked nine all tournament Junior team members headed by the starting five of Derrick Character, Tyriek (Tiki) Williams, Curtis Kelly, SONDAY Expess' Chris Martin and JYO's Nick Flagg.  They added JYO's Sky Khaleel,  the Gauchos Junior Mitchell, Manhasset's Aleek Pauline and the Rifles' Ray Arnold.'

Tyson Hartnett 6-5 forward, Shawnee, NJ 12/18/04 NJ.com  small forwards # 10 'Hartnett averaged almost 14 points a game last season, but it was not enough to advance his young team beyond the first round in South Jersey, Group 4. That snapped a three-year run as sectional champion. The 6-5 senior has experienced support now, so should be able to find his shots more readily.'

David Cherry 6-4 forward, Roselle Catholic, NJ.  12/18/04 NJ.com  small forwards # 9 'His sturdy play helped this Union County team improve to 18-6 after going 9-12 the previous season. And the 6-4 junior swing was one of four non-seniors in the starting lineup. Cherry averaged 12.7 points, hitting a high of 24 in a North Jersey, Parochial A quarterfinal victory over DePaul, 70-55.' 4/2/04 NJO: Summit county All-junior team: first team: David Cherry, Roselle Catholic,

Mike Abbondandolo, 5'4 2 guard Oyster Bay School District. .9/6/00 Coach Glen Steinberg: 'I coach a team on Long Island, I used to coach the Roadrunners AAU but took a team I named the Warriors independent. We just won the Nassau Coliseum 3-3 hoop-it-up beating the Manhasset All-stars in the finals. Its a very strong team. Newest player Mike is a quick player with a nice outside game and an amazing amount of potential. Attitude and mental toughness is very inconsistent from one extreme to the next. With continued practice and dedication will be a name to reckon with or without could be just another story of what could have been. '

Ahmed Allen 6'4" PF Christ the King (Queens) 12/03 John P Miciotta: ' He showed improved quickness to the ball and rebounding ability this summer due mainly to being in better shape. Wide body who could provide solid help off the bench for the Royals.'

Marcel Alstin 5-7 guard, Queens, NY.  GB #7,  HS #3. 5/02 JPM 'Marcel is not at Christ the King where many thought he would be.' 7/00 Marcel is playing for the Church at Manhattan CityWide this summer.

Joey Amelio, 5-7 guard St Raymond, NY  -  5/02 Joey is playing this summer with the NY Ravens 15 & under team coached by Gene New.  2/28/00 Coach Sly Johnson: '5'-2" pg - got to be one of the top three in the metro-area. Can score a lot of points, but was asked by me to be more of a floor leader and get everyone else involved. Hurt his rankings in GB (#9) because he stopped scoring heavy.'  1/14/00 hoopwiz: 'I believe Joe Amelio - pg 5 -4" Bronx (8th grade) should be acknowledged for his great performance during the recent All Hallows tournament. He scored 31 points against a good Mt. Carmel team with many future prep stars...and the following game he dropped 51 against Holy Cross. His great ability to see the floor, drive to the basket and shoot will make him one of the best prep stars in years to come.'

Shawn Barlow 6-10 center St Augustine NJ. 12/18/04 NJ.com  centers Others to watch: Shawn Barlow. 1/04 Shawn has transferred from Cherokee to St Augustine.  9/02 NJ Hoops # 26.  3/30/01 South Jersey News: An eighth-grade all-star game will be played at 1 PM. in the Al Carino Boys Basketball Club of South Jersey. The players include Shawn Barlow, Bethel Baptist.'

Danzel Barnes 5-1,  St. Charles, NYC.  HS # 4.  12/25/00 Keith Mason:  'Denzel Barnes is in the 8th grade at St. Charles and is headed to St. Johns Prep next year.'

Jessie Bradley 5'10 guard LaSalle, NY.  5/02 JPM 'Jessie is a very good scorer and a tough defender who excels near the basket. At his size he'll need to markedly improve his perimeter skills to continue to thrive at the varsity level.'  4/02  Jessie played for Team Roc's midget division entry at PRO-STYLE this past winter and as often as not he was their leading scorer.  3/03 GB # 56.

Louis Bradley 6'7" C Xaverian (Brooklyn) 12/03 John P Miciotta: 'Louis becomes eligible after sitting out following his transfer from Thomas Jefferson last season. He weighs close to three hundred pounds and can be an immovable force both on the Clippers defensive line in football and on the low block for their basketball team. This summer he played for Riverside at Rumble in the Bronx…and he did not look in basketball shape. Not only did he have trouble getting up and down the floor in fast paced games, but he did not have, for lack of a better phrase, "game sharpness" and even his normally reliable hands struggled to catch passes. If he is committed to playing basketball, he can be a factor because he's got good tools and a good feel for how to play.'

Rubin Britt 5-6 guard, Millville Middle School, NJ. 9/02 NJ Hoops # 66.  1/25/00 COACHROB61:  'Please forward to 2003+ Players Page. OFFENSE: Good ball handler (ambidextrous), good passing skills, fundamentally sound, nice 10 - 15 foot jump shot. DEFENSE: Good defender.' 10/16/00 COACHROB61: 'Rubin Britt, Jr., 5' 11," 160 lbs. Position: Combo Guard. Grade Point Average: 4.0 ( Enriched Studies - i.e. College Prep). Good 15 to 20 foot jump shot, excellent ball handler. Can create his own shot off the dribble, excellent penetration skills, very strong for a middle school player. Could play at the high school Jr. Varsity level now. Strong defender, very poised under pressure ( in clutch situations ). During 3 spring & summer tournaments featuring teams from NY, NJ and Phila. Rubin was unstoppable in all aspects of the game. Rubin should be ranked in the top five 8th graders in NJ, and the top ten 8th graders from the Tri State area.'

Taskico Brown, 5-11 guard Rice, NY  2/22/03 Insiders Hoops: Camper at the 2002 Nike Hoop Jamboree for underclassmen. Brown has good strength for his size and prides himself in running a team. Plays for one of the storied high schools in New York City.

Dwight Burke 6'7" PF St Benedict, NJ 12/03 John P Miciotta: ' Delaware native who played for Panthers "B" and reportedly is now attending Rice. He has a good frame that's wide and looks like it can carry more weight easily. Has good hands, decent feet and a nice touch around the basket. With two years to develop both his body and his skills he could be an outstanding college prospect.'

Rick Cadell 5'7 guard St. Raymond, NY  12/03 John P Miciotta: 'He has transferred here after moving with his family. Played freshman and jv hoops at St. Ray's and helped them to championships at both levels. He's a scoring point guard who, in a system that doesn't depend on the point guard to run the offense can be very good. His quickness, shooting ability and on the ball defense are D-I caliber.' 5/02 Rick is playing this summer with the NY Ravens 15 & under team coached by Gene New.

Isa Carnegie 5-11 guard Plainfield, NJ  9/02 NJ Hoops # 61.  5/02 t-bone 'Isa Carnegie will be a focal point at Plainfield HS this year. Isa plays AAU with the MSU Skyliners, has made a name for himself on driving to the basket from the baseline and playing hard solid defense. Too early to determine if he's a D1 prospect.' 8/9/00 Rich A. Carnegie 'You guys really need to broaden your horizons because you are really missing out on this amazing player on the MSU Skyliners out of the Piscataway area. Isa Carnegie is his name. To watch this up and coming 8th grader makes you fall in love with the sport all over again.  He is the most well rounded and smartest kid on the court. He is simply amazing, and I can't imagine what his game will become if he keeps growing and advancing his skills. You guys really need to contact his coaches to get a profile on this up and coming young man. Trust me, you won't be disappointed. Every coach that he has worked with say that he is simply the best. He is every bit of the word, an all star. He truly deserves honorable mention.'

Anthony Clarke 5'8 2 guard Holy Cross, NY. 12/03 John P Miciotta: 'He is the best shooter of the Knight's trio and was terrific at the High School Classic at St. Ray's in July. Very good as a press defender as well.' 9/6/00 Coach Glen Steinberg:  'Anthony is a big time scorer for me as well as the Gauchos. Hard worker and has outplayed every guard he has gone against in our games. One of the top two or three guards around in the Metro area.'

Jeffrey Clark 6-0 guard Plainfield, NJ. 5/02 t-bone 'Jeffrey Clark will also contribute on a deep Plainfield roster this coming season.'

Melvin Clarida 6-5 forward Springfield Gardens, NYC.  9/04 Melvin is playing with coach Andre Edwards and Team Underrated this fall at IS8. He averaged 14.5 points and 6 rebounds a game last season for the 4-10 Golden Eagles.

Marques Cox, 5-10 guard Rice NY.  GB # 12.   12/03 John P Miciotta: 'Marques has had some excellent moments both for Rice and for summer teams. When he's not trying to do too much he can be a very solid point guard. Sometimes he gives in to the temptation to impress people with individual play and when he does his game suffers. He defends on the ball very well and can make open jumpers. He'll need to get stronger to get better.'  5/02 JPM 'He was on the Rice freshman team that lost the championship game to Christ the King. Marques hit two big treys in that game but was hampered by foul trouble.  He's slight but tough. Marques will compete with Terrell Elliston for point guard minutes at Rice.'  3/2/02 John Miciotta 'Christ the King used late clutch free throw shooting by Chris Martin and Hakeem Gooding to beat Rice for the City freshman title. Talented lefty Ronald Manigualt and Marques Cox each had fine games for Rice.  7/18/99 1st. Presbyterian Spirit took Southside 47 - 37. Reggie Lain (GB # 14) led the Spirit with 16, 5-10 Jeff Chandler had 14 and Marques Cox (GB # 12) got 8.  8/7/99 Biddies play at IS8 on Saturday morning: 1st. Presbyterian Spirit is led by Marques Cox (GB # 12) as they take Danny Greene and 80 Park 41 - 25.  8/19/00  UDC - The Dyckman, Church Biddy semi-final game was the best of the day; it went to overtime with Dyckman prevailing 66 - 62.  Dyckman's Eric Weikert had 17 hitting 5 treys in the contest.  G Weaver and K Widgeon had 20 and 14 for the winners.  Rory Hicks and Marques Cox had 25 and 14 for the Church.  3/03 GB # 48.

Cesar Cruz 6-5 forward Life Center Academy Burlington, NJ.

Mike Crisci 5'11 2 guard, Kings Park School District.  9/6/00  Coach Glen Steinberg:  'Mike Crisci is a 5'11 shooting guard and already plays high school varsity. Can score inside or outside and is a dominant player at this age level. One of the top players in the state. Is committed, dedicated and loves to practice. Scored 35 head to head against Ray Arnold (GB#2) in their last game.'

Michael Davis 6'0  guard All Hallows NY.  5/26/05 NY Post: Gaels' Mike Davis Hofstra bound.  5/02 JPM 'The other Michael Davis (and the fourth Davis) in this class. He's a natural two guard with ability.'

Kevin Dooley 6-3 forward Chaminade, LI  5/02 Kevin is playing for coach Sly Johnson's Manhassett All Stars with Tyson Johnson and Aleek Pauline.   2/28/00 Coach Sly Johnson: 'Has outplayed every big man we played against. Quick around the basket, excellent inside presence and rebounder.'

Scottie Draughon 5'5 guard Rice, NY  5/02 Scott is playing for coach Gene New and the Ravens 15 & under team along with other smallish guards - Joey Amelio, Harry Cadell and Mike Shipman.  Scott has an impressive jump shot but he needs a growth spurt to make an impact on the varsity level.

Shane Donnelly 5'10" PG All Hallows (Bronx) 12/03 John P Miciotta: He's the third point guard prospect in this class for the Gaels and he stayed on the jv while Oliver and Elliston moved to the varsity. Coach Carey likes his mental toughness and the ability to get his team in an offense. He may be overshadowed by his talented teammates but he's a solid player and a winner in his own right.'

Joseph Edwards 6'0 2G Manhattan Center,  NYC. 10/04 Joe averaged over 22 ppg last season as a junior making him one of the top three returning high scorer in the PSAL. He has played well for Bingo All Stars at IS8 this fall.  10/10/04 John P Miciotta: 'Bingo does not have the mix of youth and experience but they have a group of guys who play within the team concept and one player, Herbie Allen, who can make plays and shots when it gets to “winning time” in end game situations. Kanau Gordon and Michael Glover provide punch inside while Joe Edwards has proven to be a reliable second scoring option on the perimeter.'

Will Ellison 5-8 guard, Queens, NY  HS #7,  GB #5.  7/00:  Will is the 80 Park midget star at IS8 this summer.

Derrick Gabriel 5’10 PG, Far Rockaway, NY 4/04 Derrick averaged 29 points, 4 rebounds and almost 12 assists during the regular season and scored 39 points with 12 assists in the Sea Horse playoff loss to Cardozo.

Kevin (Bone) Gholson 5-8 guard LI.   7/30/00  Kevin Gholson  is a 14 year old, soon to be eighth grader who plays the point for the Huntington IS8 midget team.  He had 22 points today and we're adding him to the class of 2005 list. 9/26/00 Steve:  'Long Island Roadrunners - Class of 2005: Kevin 'Bone' Gholson (Upper Room) who played with the 2004 team and won the Most Valuable Player at the YBOA International Championship in 1999.'  3/03 GB # 60.

Kevin Hannoway 6-5 center NY  GB # 2. 7/30/00  The biddie games were 80 Park over Elmont 34 - 26 and North Babylon edging the Rifles 46 - 44.  Those teams will meet again in next Sundays semifinals at 9:30 and 10:30.  Kevin Hannoway (8),  S. Woods (8),  Reynolds (6) and  Riddick (5) were best for the 80 Park winners while Melvin Clarice was game high with 9 for the Panthers.  In the second game Darren Duncan hit a trey with 25 seconds left to give North Babylon the victory.  Darren is the younger brother of Mitchell Beauford,  he's not yet 5' tall and is going into the sixth grade.  His grandfather believes he's better than Mitchell at this stage, but we won't be mentioning the class of 2007 for a few years yet! Rashid Green,  Roy Jimenez,  Charles Jenkins and Trevor Costin had 14, 10, 8 and 8 for the winners.  Unique Stowe led all scorers with 15 points and to quote Pete Edwards, 'Nique is doing it all, scoring, rebounds and defense.'

Tyrone Hanson 6'5" SG St. Mary's (LI) 7/10/05 Newsday: Former St. Mary's standout Tyrone Hanson thinking big.  12/03 John P Miciotta: 'He's an intriguing prospect because he brings length and long range shooting ability to his teams (the Gaels and Panthers) At St. Mary's it's difficult for him to find minutes because of their depth on the wings. Depth at point guard also precludes them from getting an extra wing athlete on the floor and playing Danny Green (an off guard with a nice floor game) at the point. Ultimately he can improve his stock by getting stronger and more aggressive defensively. If he does his shooting is good enough that he'll earn playing time.'

Keniel Henry 6'3" PG/SG Columbus (Bronx) 12/03 John P Miciotta: 'He is a tough physical guard who gets to the broken circle and makes mid range shots. Very strong player who can create space in traffic, ok defender who must break the habit of dropping his head to become a more effective passer.'

Rory Hicks 6-0 guard Rice. 3/03 GB # 73.   7/19/03 The word is that Rory is no longer at All Hallows but is now at Rice. Rory Hicks and Marcus Cox had 25 and 14 for the Church.

Delroy James 6’3 SF Robeson, NY. 5/04  Delroy plays for coach Tiny Morton and Juice at IS8.

Mark Johnson 6’5 PF Amityville, LI.

Dominiq Jones 5'11 2G Wadleigh, NYC.  10/04 Dominiq averaged almost 20 ppg for the Tigers last regular season and then upped that to almost 25 ppg during the playoffs while teaming with fellow junior point guard, Chris Noel.

Richard Jackson 6'1" SG/SF St. Raymond's (Bronx) 12/03 John P Miciotta: He was an important member of the Ravens JV champs last year and will compete for time on the wings this year. Has good length and can defend and shoot the ball.'

Reggie Lain 5-9, point guard Xaverian, NY.  5/02 JPM 'Reggie played for Abyssinian at City Wide.  He can shoot the lights out, but his handle needs work as does his defense.'  8/22/98   City championships results: Super Biddy -  Panthers 45  First Presbyterian  35.  Reggie Lain has 15 points for the First Presbyterian team.  7/00:  Reggie is running the First Presbyterian midget team at IS8 helped by Saiquon Stone and Eugene Locker.

Jimmy Lardrence 6-10 Coxhawken NJ.  12/26/00  LFBALL: 'Well, let me give another name to you: Jimmy Lardrence 8th grader in Coxhawken NJ 6 FT 10 220 Skills.'

Chris Lowery 6-3 forward Xaverian, NY.    HS #3.  12/03 John P Miciotta: 'He brings lots of energy and competitiveness to the Clippers. He's very long and defends well, and could emerge as the CHSAA's best game dunker this season. Sometimes, like his teammate Mike Davis, his competitive nature gets the better of him on the court. Also like Davis if he can control that, good things will come.'  5/02 JPM 'Chris is a very good rebounder, who can be fluid but likes to play in the post.  He is an ok shooter who will need to grow or improve his perimeter skills to stay a D1 prospect.'   11/5/99 Brooklyn Scout: 'The Brooklyn USA 8th-grade AAU team will travel to play Minneapolis South, the Minnesota 8th-grade state AAU champions, on Thursday, November 11 at the Target Center. The match-up will be held before the NBA contest between the Minnesota Timberwolves and the New York Knicks.  The Brooklyn USA team will feature five nationally-ranked players including Chris Lowery (#5 seventh grader).   3/03 GB # 2.

Corey Lyons 6’4 SF FDA  5/04  Corey averaged 16 points and 8 rebounds this past season for the FDA Lions who went 16-0 in Manhattan's division 1A.

Brian Lytle 6'3 forward Seton Hall Prep NJ. 9/03 Seton Hall Prep juniors -- the first four started at and 1 this summer along with 6-4 junior Brian Lytle who has since transferred. His bulk and inside talents will be sorely missed.  9/02 NJ Hoops # 23.

Ronald Manigault 6-0 guard Rice NY.  3/2/02 John Miciotta 'Christ the King used late clutch free throw shooting by Chris Martin and Hakeem Gooding to beat Rice for the City freshman title. Talented lefty Ronald Manigualt and Marques Cox each had fine games for Rice.'  3/03 GB # 52.

Stephen McKoy 6'4 forward Frederick Douglass, NYC. 5/04  Stephen averaged 11 points and 11 rebounds this past season for the FDA Lions who went 16-0 in Manhattan's division 1A.  Stephen, Corey Lyons, Damani Corbin and Ivan Rodriguez give the Lions four returning double digit scorers for next season.

Geoffrey McDermott 6’3 SG New Rochelle NY.

Khalel McDonald, 6-0 guard BishopLoughlin, Brooklyn. 10/04 Khalel played for NYC Heat this fall at IS8.

James McIntosh 6-2 guard Holy Cross, NY  5/02 JPM 'James is a lights out shooter who played well for the Cross freshman team this past season.'

Gordon McKenzie 5'8 2G Qns NY Holy Cross, NYC  12/03 John P Miciotta: 'He is the best all around player of the Knight's trio…a good shooter who can penetrate and pass but does it more from the wing. He's also a terrific track and field athlete who is recruitable in that sport as well. Tough competitor who wants the ball in key situations. How much he grows will determine what level he's recruitable at in basketball.' 10/02 Holy Cross Media guide: 'The Knights will also rely on the contributions of three sophomores who are being promoted from last year's frehmen team which won 21 games and made it to the CHSAA semi-finals. Anthony Clark, Michael Johnson and Gordon McKenzie are all talented guards who will get a great deal of playing time this season.'  3/03 GB # 10.

Jerrell Mills 5'11 guard Rice, NY.  5/02 JPM 'Jerrell was the point guard for the Rice JV.  He can shoot, he's clever and a good dribbler to the basket. He may be on the varsity next year as the Rice player most ready to be what coach Mo Hicks likes in a point guard.'  3/03 GB # 18.

Eric Moore 6' PG/SG St. Benedict's (NJ) 12/03 John P Miciotta: 'Smart and solid guard who may be caught in a log jam for minutes this talented team. He's a talented kid but difficult to evaluate because he doesn't get in the game long enough to establish the kind of rhythm players need.'

Brandon Nieves 6' SG/SF All Hallows (Bronx) 12/03 John P Miciotta: 'He played very well for the Gaels at the High School classic in July. He showed an ability to move the ball smartly with quick passes and make open shots. He fits well on a team like the Gaels that relies on good ball movement, outside shooting and quick pressure on defense.'

Chris Noel 5-7 guard Wadleigh, NYC.  4/04 Chris was the Wadleigh point guard who scored who scored almost 18 points a game for the Tigers this past season as the team went 14-2. 5/02 JPM 'Bright, smallish guard from Queens Chris is now going to school in New Jersey.  His growth spurt will influence his progress in high school basketball.'

Codi Oliver 5'6 guard All Hallows, NY 12/03 John P Miciotta: 'He has not come along as fast physically as Elliston has but he's a quick heady point guard who showed an improved shooting stroke this summer. What level he's recruitable at a year from now will depend largely on how much stronger he gets because he's got good quickness and instincts for a point guard.'    5/02 JPM 'Codi was moved to the JV team this year. He's the heir apparent to the All Hallows varsity point guard position next season.'  3/03 GB # 44.

Osa Omogun 5-11 guard NY.  5/02 JPM 'Osa is from IS 210 in Queens. Osa can be a dependable combo guard. He is thin and not particularly strong, but he can shoot and defend both guard positions. He may be enrolled at Holy Cross.'  2/12/00  Saturday morning at IS8 -  In the first midget game Ajax was up by two at the beginning of the fourth quarter, then ran away from Elmcor for a 48 - 35 win.  Shahee Martin was an Ajax force inside with 14 points while Osa Omogon scored 20, including eight of twelve from the line. 2/20/00  Sunday morning at IS8:  In the first midget game Ajax beat the Skyriders 45 - 42.  Osa Omogun, Shahee Martin lead the way for Ajax.

Jeffery Outler 5'11 guard Christ the King, NY. 5/02 JPM 'Jeffrey is a very talented two guard who is hoping to come back after having his ligaments surgically repaired last season.'

Salvador Patricio 5'11 guard Bryant,  NY  5/15/04 The IS8 playoffs are not for the faint of heart. Real Scout's Salvador Patricio had the cut over his left eye taken care of and scored 13 for his team in a losing effort.  4/04 Salvador averaged over 29 points a game for Bryant this past season as one of the leading scorers in the PSAL.  5/02 Salvador was on Nathan Blue's roster at IS8 this spring but he didn't make a big dent in any of the scorebooks. 2/14/02 Louis Xifaras 'The freshmen team beat Bishop Loughlin by 2 points for our 4th league win. High scorers were Salvador Junior Patricio and Dexter DeJesus with 20 points each.'

Brandon Payne 6'4 St.Patricks, NJ   10/04 Brandon was not on the And1 St Patrick roster.  5/02 t-bone 'Plays PG for the MSU Skyliners, has the ability to take over a game at any moment and with his long stature and ability, causes major mismatches for opponents. Junior ABCD Camp Player.'  9/02 NJ Hoops # 8.

Elson Pickering 6-6 center FDA, NYC. 12/6/04 Elson played in 15 games for the FDA varsity as a freshman averaging 7.5 points and 4.7 rebounds a game. He only played in five games as a sophomore and not at all last season. He was the Lions starting center in their opening day win against Bishop Loughlin.

Marvin Roberts 6'5" PF 12/03 John P Miciotta: 'Long rebounding forward who transfers here after time at Holy Cross and Jamaica High. Loves to get out on the break and finish.'

Johnathan Ruiz 6'0 guard All Hallows, NY. 5/02 JPM 'Jonathan plays his AAU ball with the Gauchos and is a steadying, dependable  influence on that talented team at PRO-STYLE, IS8 and UDC.  Jonathan has also played with the LI Lightning team. Next season will be a rebuilding year for coach John Carey's Gaels, so Jonathan may have a shot at the varsity.'

Nathan Skinner 6-5 forward Bishop Loughlin, NY.  6/04 According to Loughlin coach, Khalid Green, Nathan will not be playing for the Lions this coming season due to 'academic transcript problems'.   4/16/04 Nathan played for the Brooklyn Lions at the 6th Annual Necelina McDonald Memorial Tournament.  10/03 Transfer from Ontario, Canada sat out his junior year at Loughlin. Nathan played for the New Jersey Panthers at the Spring Fling and figures to be playing for coach Gary Charles' Panthers squad at IS8.

Kiwan Smith 6'7" PF/SF Laurinburg, NC3/04  Insiders: 'Playing for Laurinburg Charter Preparatory School in North Carolina. Kiwan transferred from Bishop Loughlin in Brooklyn where he averaged 27 points, 6 rebounds, 11 assists, and 3 blocks per game. He has been reclassified to his junior year (senior for 2005) and is being sought after by Big East and ACC schools.'  8/03 John P Miciotta: 'A native of Schenectady who several sources have reported will transfer here after moving to Brooklyn with his family. He is a tough and versatile forward with a nice face up game, and a good nose for the ball on the offensive board. Good shooter from 15' and in, but not quite out three point distance. He's easily a mid major recruit who will warrant looks from high majors if he keeps improving.'

Jamar Smith 6’1 SG LaSalle, NY

Jake Stevens 5-7 guard Xaverian NY.  5/02 JPM 'Jake is the savvy, fundamentally sound point guard who ran the Xaverian freshmen team this past season.  He can shoot but is slight. More than likely he'll be playing for the JV next season.'

Ismaila Tarore 6'8" PF/C St. Benedict's (NJ) 12/03 John P Miciotta: 'He's a wide body with good running ability. He help defends well and can clog the middle. Needs to develop offensively.'

Rich Thomas 6’3 SF St. John’s Prep.  10/13/04 Coach Ron Dennis of K.Y.D.A. 'Now that our season is over at the I.S. 8 High School preseason basketball classic, I'd like to reflect on some of the players at K.Y.D.A. who are considered hidden gems. Hidden gems are lesser known players whoare solid in the classroom and solid on the basketball court but are not household names. A hidden gem worthy of mention is St John Prep 6'4" senior shooting guard Richard Thomas. His ability to score, defend against smaller, fast guards and his ability to rebound makes Richard a player that you can count on every game. You won't find Richard on your list of ranked players but he gets up and plays well against many of them when he is matched up against them. Richard helped SJP achieve a 17-2 record in the C.H.S.A.A. class A div and runner-up to LaSalle Academy in the Championship game.

Keith Turcios 5-11 guard St Mary, LI.   5/02 JPM 'For the freshman Gaels last season Keith was the solid one. While not particularly athletic nor quick he makes the right decisions and is a fine complementary player from the two guard spot, who keeps the ball moving and his teammates involved.  Keith is a coach's player.'  7/11/99 Biddies Manhasset Allstars lead all the way, hanging on to win 36 - 34. Keith Turcios (GB # 15) and unrated Kevin Dooley make the difference.  7/17/99 Biddies  - Manhasset beats 80 Park 37 - 32. Keith Turcios (GB # 15) scores 15 points and Tyson Johnson (GB # 27) gets lots of rebounds to offset Danny Greene's (GB #24) 13 points.   2/28/00 Coach Sly Johnson: 'Ht. 5'-11 - exceptional player. Father (Rich) played overseas for a few years before back injury shut him down.'

Akeem Vanderhorst, 6-5 forward Bayshore, LI.  10/13/04 Coach Ron Dennis of K.Y.D.A. 'Now that our season is over at the I.S. 8 High School preseason basketball classic, I'd like to reflect on some of the players at K.Y.D.A. who are considered hidden gems. Hidden gems are lesser known players that are solid in the classroom and solid on the basketball court but are not household names. One of the players considered high on the hidden gems list is Bayshore H.S. senior 6'5" Akeem Vanderhorst. Akeem is a warrior. A player that many college coaches and scouts know less about and a player that matches up nicely among the top ranked players in the metro area. Vanderhorst is a quiet young player who brings his lunch box and hard hat to each and every game. He led Bayshore H.S. to become the 2003-04 Suffolk County Champs.

Charles Vasser 6'1 SF St. Raymond, NY  12/03 John P Miciotta: 'His playing situation is similar to Richard Jackson's because he has the ability to contribute but the Ravens are deep and he must compete for time. He's strong and physical. He drives strong to the basket and isn't afraid to battle on the glass. Not the shooter that Jackson is but he finds ways to score and contribute.'

Lamont Walker 6-4 forward Christ the King, NY.  5/02 JPM 'Lamont is not as tall and does not yet appear to have the potential of his brother, but like Adam, he's learning the game so he may improve and be a factor with time and experience.'

Steven Walker 6'2 forward Rice, NY.  10/04 Steven is no longer on the Rcie roster. 5/02 JPM 'Steven started for the Rice freshman team. He can score in the post and his wing skills will improve with practice and experience.  The talent is there.  Steven is both heady and aggressive but he needs to stay away from the silly fouls. He's a possibility for the varsity next season.'  3/03 GB # 51.

Daryl Washington 6'5" PF All Hallows (Bronx) 12/03 John P Miciotta: 'He's athletic but raw and not polished. He has a chance to provide a nice inside complement for Albert Forbes. He has good tools but must continue to improve.'

Greg Washington 6'9 Center Central Islip, NY 4/04 Hoop Scoop # 300 nationally.  10/04 Greg played with the LI Panthers this summer but not at IS8 this fall.

Grant Wentworth 6-8 center Lawrenceville Prep, NJ. Grant plays for the Playaz.

Kade Weston 6-6 center, Red Bank, NJ 12/18/04 NJ.com  centers # 10 'The Shore Conference picture tilted rather sharply toward Red Bank when the 6-6, 315-pound All-State defensive tackle decided to return for another season of hoops. He has tremendous quickness and footwork for a player his size, no doubt gained from his years playing soccer as a youth. He will play football at Georgia.'

John White 6-5 center NJ.  8/00  NJO Forum - Joe Rapper 'John White is the best 7th grader in New Jersey.  He will be a great high school player in the near future.  You all better watch out for this kid.'  Big Red Machine: 'That 7th grader talked about at the forum.. is the same kid,  6'5, Lives in Scotch Plains NJ, but plays for the JC Boys Club.. probably will end up at St. Pats or St.Ants.'

Shalah White  5-6 guard, NYC. 2/14/02 Louis Xifaras 'The Freshmen team beat Bishop Loughlin by 2 points for our 4th league win. High scorers were Salvador Junior Patricio and Dexter DeJesus with 20 points each. Outstanding floorplay and defense by guard Shalah White helped pace McClancy.'  7/17/00 JamelakaMelbo1:  'This kid Shalah White I think he should be in the top 15 of the class 2005. Shalah White is 5 foot 6,  he lives in Queens he goes to I.S.61. Shalah plays 12&under with the TK  Allstar (yellow Shirts). His team plays in the Citywide Queens division at Real Good Park. Shalah White is a point guard but in Citywide he plays the point or shooting guard. Shalah can go left or right he dribbles with both hands great he shoots the jumper 10-15 feet great and he plays great defense and he his the ability to score at will.I would  appreciate if you would come and see this kid play because I think he is better then most of those kids.'

Chris Williams 6'2" SG/SF St. John's Prep (Queens) 12/03 John P Miciotta: 'He's a smooth shooter and hustling player who will fit in very nicely with the fine group of seniors that make the prep a favorite in the CHSAA's "B" division. He'll draw initial looks from low majors and D-II programs but his stock could improve.'

Tim Zephyr 6'7" SF Columbus (Bronx) 12/03 John P Miciotta: 'Long lefthander who can stroke the jumper from long range, needs to get stronger and more aggressive. Good athlete but for now the production does not match the tools.'

Kevin Mormin 7'2" C Our Savior New American (LI)  Died 12/31/03  1/1/04 Hoop Scoop: 'We first saw 7'2 Jr Kevin Mormin from Centereach (Our Savior New American) NY at the Charlie Weber Invitational Tournament in College Park, MD, shortly after he arrived in this country last fall. We also got to see Mormin play in the War on the Shore National Prep School Invitional in Milford, DE in November and this past week at Slam Dunk to the Beach in Lewes, DE and each time we saw dramatic improvement, as his confidence level and skills improved. Mormin had soft hands, a nice touch, good athleticism, surprisingly mobility, and an unlimited upside. He did need to get bigger and stronger, but he was one of the most intriuguing players in the junior class nationally due to his size, skills, and potential. We're writing about Mormin in the past tense, because yesterday Mormin was tragically killed around 4:30 PM in a car accident while traveling with the

Our Savior New American team from Slam Dunk to the Beach to Charlotte, NC, where his team is scheduled to play in the Dell Curry Shootout this weekend. Eight other players on the Our Savior New American team were also injured in the accident.'  1/5/04 Sporting News: Crash kills French prep player, Kevin Mormin.

12/03 John P Miciotta: 'Kevin arrives at OSNA from Martinique and brings much more to the table than his height. He's a good athlete who runs well but also moves laterally extremely well. He's well ahead of former Rice star and current UK freshman Shagari Alleyne at this stage mainly because his balance and body control are better and he moves with a great deal more fluidity. He catches the ball better as well. He is similar to Shagari physically because it appears he is, for want of a better phrase high wasted. So even as he adds size and strength we can't be sure whether he'll be able to really sit and hold position in the post. He moves well enough though that he'll be a mobile active center, and his hands will give him chances to finish plays around the hoop. When I saw him he did not shoot well but his technique is fine. The game just needs to slow down for him, which it will with experience. Should become a top player nationally as he improves.'

7/9/03 Class 2005 coverage upped to over 80 with more than 60 ranked and the others listed alphabetically. John P Miciotta, tbone and others on this site contributed to the profiles and player evaluations. The rankings were compiled by referencing Gameball, NJ Hoops, InsiderHoops, Hoop Scoop and Apple's Ballaz' lists and by watching play at IS8, UDC, Gauchos and CityWide. The more than 100 people (half of them, coaches) on this site's mailing list had a chance to contribute, though most won't rank players on principle. Ultimately, the final decision was mine, the site's programmer and basketball fan. I am not a scout, and I am not a talent evaluator. This ranking should be taken very, very lightly. It is primarily a reason to profile prominent players in one place on this site. I apologize to all those who should be on this list, but are not, due to my ignorance. For comments, suggestions and further evaluations please email to nycnjhoops@aol.com.

2/22/03 Insiders Hoops: Class of 2005 includes Ricky Torres, Emanuel Mayben, Antonio Pena, Anthony Farmer, Shahee Martin, Brian Connelly, Brandon Costner, James Tchana, Taskico Brown, Nyan Boateng, Chris Bethel, Sean McCurdy.

Web note: Not mentioned were Terrell Biggs, Saiquon Stone, Eugene Harvey, Victor Morris, Kyle McAlarney, Mike Davis and Danny Green.

9/11/02  Edwin Morales: 'I am writing to you about a young man named Emanuel (Manny) Garcia. He is 6'2" and plays for Cardinal Spellman in the Bronx. I saw him play at a tourney at Monroe-Woodbury.  He dominated avging in the high twenties as his AAU team Chase the Game took the 15u. As a soph he might play varsity. Coaches who have seen him include Joe Walsh of the LI Lighting, Coach Hart formally of Iona College, Tom Murray of Cardinal Hayes as well as the Coach of the Rockland Ravens whom he took apart. Don't be surprised if you see this name more often. I noticed your incoming soph class and didn't see his name yet.  He has played against at least six to eight of them. He played very well, but his team did not.'

8/18/02 Bballplaya099: 'Hello, I am a Long Island basketball fanatic. I was going over your individual player ratings for the class of 2005 and I was extremely suprised that Geoff Lerner was not on your list. He is around 6"3 I beleive and has played very well. Next year as a soph he has a good shot at starting for the Walt Whitman varsity team.I have not seen his go up against city competition yet but he must be atleast in the top 20 players on long Island of his age group. I know he played in a Nike/5star tournament this summer and did very well. He may not be top 20 or even 30 in New York and New Jersey but your list contains over 100 players, please consider him for the rankings.'

8/18/02 Stars on a rise: 'Let me tell you guys about one of the best unkown point guards in the Bronx, Pablo Delgado a pure point guard from the bronx, now a sophmore at Taft High School. This kid has talent he was on the varsity team last year as a freshman, so all I really have to say is to watch out for this kid, he has a lot of game.'

7/17/02Yankee Bowe: 'How could you not list Myron Rolle from St. Augustine's College Preparatory School, Richland, New Jersey? As a freshman, he started many games and was a vital part of the Prep's basketball team.  Myron was just as effective as Anthony Farmer, another Prep freshman, but played the 4 and occasionally the 3. Much more athletic than most freshmen. Plays excellent defense with exceptional jumping abilities. Can improve his handle and three point shooting but overall game is improving significantly. Continues to be a standout in Sunny Hill Summer League, 2002. Averaged 8 points and between 7 to 10 rebounds per game as a freshman for the Prep. You should investigate and evaluate his talents.'

10/4/00:  I've upped the Class 2005 coverage from 14 to 32 with this index groups them alphabetically by last name.  It was compiled by referencing Gameball, Hoop Scoop, site email and by watching them play at IS8,  UDC, Gauchos and Citywide. They're mostly New York City kids, who play for the Church,  Brooklyn USA,  JYO or the Gauchos.  The more than eighty people (half of them coaches) on this site's mailing list had a chance to contribute, though some won't rank players on principle.  Ultimately, the final decision was mine, the site's programmer and basketball fan.  I am not a scout, and I am not a talent evaluator.  This listing should be taken very, very lightly.  It is primarily a reason to profile prominent players from the class in one place on this site.  I apologize to all those who should be on this list, but are not, due to my ignorance.  For comments and suggestions please email nycnjhoops@aol.com.

9/6/00  Coach Glen Steinberg:  'I coach a team on Long Island, I used to coach the Roadrunners aau but took a team I named the Warriors independent. We just won the Nassau Colliseum 3-3 hoop-it-up beating the Manhasset All-stars in the finals. Its a very strong team. I also have 2-3 players on the team who should be ranked. One is Mike Crisci who is a 5'10 shooting guard and already plays high school varsity, he should be ranked anywhere from #1-#5. The other is Anthony Clarke who also plays for the Gauchos and should be from #8-#15. the last is Mike Abbondandolo who should be somewhere around one spot above where Danny Greene is. Of the ranked players on your list Danny Greene, Ray Arnold, Marques Cox and Reggie Lain. have all played for me before. I also just got back from the national 3-3's held at the basketball Hall of Fame where my team won the entire thing beating a team from Iowa in the finals.'

7/29/00: Added four - Marcel Alston,  Will Ellison, Kevin Gholson  and Saiquon Stone to Class 2005 coverage, now at 18 players.  The High Hoops rankings will stay alphabetical until this class enters its sophomore year in high school.
