Class of 1998,  1999,   2000,   2001,  2002, 2003, 2004 2005 2007 2008 2009 2010

Class for 2006

8/26/05 NY Insider: Top 25 Prospects in 2006 includes # 4. Wayne Ellington (Merion, Pa., The Episcopal Academy) 6-4. Comments: He is as clearly the top prospect at his projected college position (shooting guard) as Oden is at center. # 13. Gerald Henderson (Merion, Pa., The Episcopal Academy) 6-5. Comments: His jump shot is the only part of his game that isn’t already dynamic. # 14. Duke Crews (Hampton, Va., Bethel) 6-6. Comments: No matter how long I ponder the question, I can’t come up with the name of a high-level prospect that played harder than Crews did in July. # 15. Lance Thomas (Newark, N.J., St. Benedict) 6-8. Comments: Ditto the comments about Gerald Henderson. # 20. Derrick Caracter (Elizabeth, N.J., St. Patrick) 6-9. Comments: Consistency of effort and physical conditioning are his only roadblocks to becoming an exceptional college player at Louisville – and if anyone can remove those barriers, it’s Rick Pitino.

4/11/05 Class 2006 coverage upped to over 100 with more than 75 ranked and the others listed alphabetically. John P Miciotta, tbone and others on this site contributed to the profiles and player evaluations. The rankings were compiled by referencing NJ Hoops, Scout and Hoop Scoop lists and by watching play at IS8, UDC, Gauchos and ProStyle. The more than 100 people (half of them, coaches) on this site's mailing list had a chance to contribute, though most won't rank players on principle. Ultimately, the final decision was mine, the site's programmer and basketball fan. I am not a scout, and I am not a talent evaluator. This ranking should be taken very, very lightly. It is primarily a reason to profile prominent players in one place on this site. I apologize to all those who should be on this list, but are not, due to my ignorance. For comments, suggestions and further evaluations please email to nycnjhoops@aol.com.

Robert Thomas 6-6 forward St Thomas More, Ct.  6/15/04 Hooptown: 'Rumble in the Bronx - Thomas was arguably the best player in the tournament. Although his team only made the consolation rounds, he put on an amazing show for all the fans that attended. In a game against the Howard Pulley Panthers White, he completely dominated both ends of the floor and helped the Panthers pull away from a team who was just out manned. He scored 16 points and was blocking shots and getting steals at a rapid rate. This player has huge potential and must be kept in your sights for upcoming tourneys. A big man who is very agile is a threat to any team out there.'   5/04 Robert is playing for Team Roc at IS8 along with Stephen Wood, Kiwan Smith and Nathan Skinner. He's a wonderful talent but by age he should be in the class of 2004.

4/04 Insiders: 'Robert Thomas -- Hard playing athlete with range on his jumper. Will do the work inside as well. Breakout effort came at 2003 War On The Shore.'   5/03 Robert is from Brooklyn. He went to Grover Cleveland for two years, but never played for their team. He transferred to Wadleigh and played as a sophomore for coach Carlton Screen Jr this past high school season before being ruled ineligible. Wadleigh, 11 - 1 in their division, forfeited their games and PSAL playoff spot.. Robert played for Team Roc in the junior division at Pro Style this winter where he led them to the championship while leading the division in scoring. According to Shawn Arnold of Team Roc (pictured with Robert), Robert is already enrolled at Mt Zion and will play for them next year but Hoop Scoop has him at St Thomas More in Ct.

Derrick Caracter, 6-8 St Patrick, NJ  7/10/05 Daily News: Against ABCD's giant, Derrick Caracter comes up big.  4/1/05 NJO: Union county season in review -- Junior of the year: Derrick Caracter.  12/18/04 NJ.com centers  1-12/16/04 Metro Hoops: Top New Jersey Juniors:  # 1. Caracter's back with a vengeance. DC has heard all the mumblings from critics over this past year and now someone has to pay. Look for Derrick to unleash a Shaq style fury on the rest of the state. Hey, he has held down the #1 spot for five summers.  11/23/04 Daily News: 'A huge-bodied, dominant force on the inside, Caracter is a great rebounder on both ends of the floor. He has a better-than-average perimeter game for a big man but has trouble getting out on the fast break. Some think he will bypass college and head straight to the NBA after his senior season.'

11/3/04 TarHeel Radar: The Golden Dozen of 2006 includes # 5 Derrick Caracter. 2006's version of Sean May brings the booty bump back to high school basketball. This bulky interior player has some of the best hands since Lynn Swann and he's capable of putting up big numbers no matter who checks him. And yeah, even you, Greg Oden, can't stop Caracter when he's bringin' the lunchbox. Basically, he's probably the best offensive post player in this class when he wants to be. He just needs a good dose of consistency in his game.  10/27/04 The Hoopstown Top 25 Underclassmen # 7. Derrick Caracter   – One of the most multi-skilled big-men in the country… He can drive the ball with the best of the big, as well as finish everything in the paint… He shoots well for a man of his size, and with three point range… Moves smoothly with or without the ball… Has good court vision and decent passing ability… On defense his foot speed and shot blocking need improving… If he keeps his weight down and a good attitude the sky’s the limit for this young man. 7/9/04 NJO: ABCD Camp - Derrick Caracter transfers back to St. Pat's. 6-9 forward: It's best move for me.  7/9/04 Daily News: 'The 6-9 junior power forward Derrick Caracter, who made headlines last year for leaving St. Patrick's for Scotch Plains, is on the move again. He will be back with the Celtics this year.'  10/03 Hoop Scoop # 2 nationally. 11/25/03 Daily News: Caracter building at Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School.  6/17/03 NJ Hoops: Caracter leads Scotch Plains in the championship of the Kean University Team Camp.    15-09-2002 Sabes Foundation Invitational Underclassmen Evaluations:  'Derrick Caracter, 6-8 245 lbs. PF Scotchs Plains (NJ) Terrel Middle School, Riverside Church 16’s. In my six years of evaluating prospects I have never observed a player whose skills are so far along at such a young age. Already has unbelievable size. Offensively he’s very aggressive, and showed he could score via the drop step, elbow jumper, and 12-foot baseline shot. Overpowers opponents on the glass and executed a handful of three-point plays. Good free throw shooter. Great hands. Nice timing on blocked shots. Scored 16 and 11 in the two games we watched. Elite high major prospect.'  6/01 JPM: 'Probably the best eighth grader in the country whose size, skills and intelligence set him apart from all others.'  2/00  Ron Naclerio:  '6'7 Derrick Caracter ... is the best 7th grader in America and it is almost a foregone conclusion that he'll wind up at St. Patrick in two years.'  12/26/00  LFBALL: ' Derrick Caracter -- I am not going to get into debating the reasons why or why not evaluate and rank 7th and 8th graders. However, I will say, my good buddy Ron Naclerio, who is a great one on one individual teacher/coach, has a very good HS basketball program, and knows  who is who in the city sometimes gets overexcited about young players. In fact, if I were a 7th or 8th grader and he said I was the number 1 player in my class, I would become really scared. Some past top in class predictions by Ronnie even though they all had good HS careers and will play well in college: 1. Vaughn Hunter Top 8th grader in America,  2. Teddy Mumford Top 8th grader in America,  3. Kid at St. Raymond who went on to star for St. Rays Varsity B.'   12/26/00 tbone:  'Derrick"Big Fella" Caracter attends Terrill Rd Middle School in Scotch Plains NJ.. and just like the post reads will probably end up at St.Patricks in 2 years... the 6'7 kid is a monster.  Hands down the best 7th grader in America and it's not because of his height, the kid has guard skills, and is a big boy, not slim and no weight.  He played with St.Patricks HS in the Metro Classic last year (basically still an 6th grader) when Alston and Billimier were in Fl. at an AAU game, and scored 13pts and grabbed 11 boards vs. St.Joseph of Metuchun (NJ) a 6th grader got those numbers vs. HS seniors!. I know one thing, he won't be going to Scotch Plains HS!'  12/26/00  Ryan Biddulph:  'Yes, the kid has got major league skills. He lives around the block from me, and I've played with him at LaGrande Park. The first time I played against him, I thought he was pulling my leg when he said that he was in the 6th grade, b/c he was already so big! And yes, he has guard skills, including a tight crossover that wouldn't be expected from such a young, large kid. I've never seen him play in a serious game, but some of the stuff that he pulled off was very impressive, especially b/c he was playing casually. He also has a nice, smooth shot, and he told me that he even works out on Sunday mornings at the park with his uncle, so he'll only continue to improve. Other kids will catch up physically, but if he keeps at it, and works harder and harder, the sky's the limit.'

Lance Thomas 6-8 forward, St Benedict, NJ  4/1/05 NJO: Prep's season in review -- Player of the year: Lance Thomas. 12/18/04 NJ.com small forwards - # 1 'The 6-7 junior transferred to the Newark school last summer after guiding Scotch Plains-Fanwood to a 16-10 record playing with current St. Patrick's center Derrick Caracter. Thomas can rebound, hit mid-range and inside shots and is a good ball-handler, but his greatest attributes may be his willingness to work hard and his desire to constantly improve. NJ Hoops rates him the No. 2 junior recruit in New Jersey behind Caracter.' 12/16/04 Metro Hoops: Top New Jersey Juniors: # 2. Thomas is ready to show that he can carry a squad, and there is no bigger stage than St. Benedicts. Lance’s work ethic and commitment to be better is the reason college coaches have put him on speed dial. The relentless wing player is the most versatile forward in the 2006 class. It also doesn’t hurt to have the state's top guard feeding you the rock.'

11/23/04 Daily News: 'It will be interesting to see what Thomas can do now that he won't have Derrick Caracter by his side. At Scotch Plains last season, Thomas benefitted from all the double-teaming Caracter had to deal with. This year, he'll have to use his wiry frame to do a lot of the dirty work himself.'  11/3/04 TarHeel Radar: 'The Golden Dozen of 2006 includes # 12 Lance Thomas. With his lengthy 6-8 frame, Thomas is a very effective attack dribbler from the wing position. He uses his size to shoot right over the defense and does a great job of getting right to the basket where he often earns two strokes from the free throw line. Right now, he's not a complete product but he has all of the tools. He's very unselfish and will rack up more assists than most at his position and he's another prospect with the ability to be a stopper on the defensive side of the ball. It'll be interesting to see how much he improves his shot and finishing ability inside this year.' 9/04 Lance has transferred to St Benedict where he will be the main guy for coach Dan Hurley's Grey Bees. 6/18/02 Terence Johnson (tbone): 'Its official, Scotch Plains of New Jersey has the top incoming 9th grader in the conference next year. This kid has the potential to be an all county player by his sophomore season. He can dribble, pass, block shots and finish under the basket. Already, he's turning heads with his jumping ability. Many thought this kid was going to go to a local parochial power, but NO, he's heading to Scotch Plains Hs in NJ. Let me tell you, Lance Thomas is going to get it done. Oh yeah, you heard me right, Lance Thomas!. Lance gets outshined in Scotch Plains because of manchild Derrick Caracter, but the 6'4 2006 player can and will hold his own on the varsity level this year. If it was any other year, everyone would have known about Lance, but when you're overshadowed by a player like Caracter you should understand. Lance will take his lumps due to his frame, but has the tools to be a pretty nice player in the long run. Is "DC" far behind? Keep up with the latest happenings in the Watchung Conference, the toughest conference in NJ!'

Wayne Ellington, 6-5 guard Merion Station (Episcopal Academy) PA. Hoop Scoop # 13. 11/3/04 TarHeel Radar: The Golden Dozen of 2006 includes # 4 Wayne Ellington. I've said it before and I'll say it again -- Wayne Ellington is The Man. I know talent and Ellington has it. He's the most talented guard that I've seen in this class and he has virtually no weaknesses. Outside jumper? Check. Slasher? You betcha. Athletic? Does a bear....never mind. Ellington is a big scorer plain and simple, and I challenge anybody to try to stop him this year. Schools like Wake Forest, Arizona, NC State and a boatload of others are vying to get in good with Ellington. Whispers out of Philly say he's the best thing since some dude named Kobe.'

9/04 Wayne is doing it all for the Playaz Gold team at IS8 this fall. Wayne was named to the IS8 first team and was the probable runner-up to Stefon Jackson for regular season MVP.  1/04  ScoutHoops: One of the better scorers on the East Coast. Was named the Co-MVP of the 2003 Eddie Griffin Challenge.

Brian Zoubeck 7-0 center Haddonfield High, NJ.   12/14/04 Metro Hoops: Top New Jersey Juniors:. # 8. Brian Zoubek 7’0 Center (Haddonfield). Zoubek teamed with Andrew Bynum as the NJ All Stars twin towers. The 7 foot giant loves to post deep and has excellent interior moves. Brian thrives in the half court set, but needs to enhance his ability to run the floor.   3/03 HS # 6 in southern Jersey.  3/15/04 Philly.com: Haddonfield's wins are twice as tiring for the Zoubeks.   12/19/03 Philly.com: Bulldogs' Brian Zoubek fills a tall order.12/17/03 Courier Post: Colleges want Haddonfield sophomore, 7 foot Brian Zoubek.  2/25/03 Inquirer: Bright future awaits Haddonfield High's Brian Zoubek, a 6-foot-9, 230-pound freshman center.

Earl Clark, 6-7 point guard Rahway NJ  4/1/05 NJO: Union county season in review -- All Union First team -- Earl Clark Rahway 6-7 197 Junior He blossomed as an all-around star with 18.5 points, eight rebounds and four blocks a game. Earl Clark of Rahway scored 25 points and added 13 rebounds and eight blocks Feb. 5 in a 58-56 victory over Hillside. 12/18/04 NJ.com shooting guards # 4 'The 6-7 junior excelled while playing point guard much of the summer. He showed an ability to break pressure and create his share of shots. Clark is likely to rotate between point and swing, depending upon what rival defenses show.'

12/16/04 Metro Hoops: Top New Jersey Juniors: # 3. Yeah you read it right 6’8 guard. Clark splashed onto the scene last year while playing the point for the NJ Roadrunners. Earl's size allows him to pass over opposing guards and get a clean look on pull ups in the lane. Clark also can get rebounds and start fast breaks on his own. As Earl’s jump shot develops his name will ring more bells.  7/9/04 John P Miciotta: 'The Locals at ABCD --Yesterday's action also provided an opportunity for, a Brooklyn resident like myself to see players who I hear and read about through the web site but don't get to see as often. Rahway's 6'7" junior Earl Clark was really impressive. He sees the game beautifully, can drive and dish, and strikes a nice balance pushing the tempo while not forcing the action. He has a nice outside stroke but looks to pass first. Defensively he struggled a bit keeping the opposing point guard in front of him but he's active, has long arms and gets in the passing lane very well.'  6/04 Earl played for Sandy Pyonin's NJ Roadrunners 16 under team at the Rumble in the Bronx. Athletically, he's a talent, but he shies away from contact and the action in the paint. He needs to become far more aggressive going to the basket and stop hoisting ill-advised perimeter jumpers. 12/03 Hoop Scoop # 131 nationally. Earl already has college size for a perimeter player.

Jawan Carter 6-0 point guard, Wilmington, De. 9/04 Unfortunately Jawan did not play for the Playaz this fall at IS8.  10/21/03 InsidersHoops: 'Eddie Griffin Challenge 2006: N.J. 82, Philly 75. Jawan Carter was slated to play with the New Jersey team but the standout has transferred from St. Benedicts to Wilmington (DE) Tatnall. He’s originally from the First State.'  7/10/03 ABCD Camp notes: ' The 6-foot rising sophomore point guard out of St. Benedict’s Prep (N.J.) is one of the quickest players in the camp. He’s definitely got game — averaging 14 points and knocking down seven total 3-pointers in the two games on Tuesday — but most impressive was the poise he showed going up against players usually two years older. He should be among the best players in the Class of 2006. Carter mentioned Villanova, Notre Dame and Duke specifically and said he’s looking at several schools in the Big East and ACC..

Curtis Kelly 6-9 forward Rice, NY.  6/30/05 Daily News: Shh! Curtis Kelly picks UConn.  6/30/05 NY Post: Rice's Curtis Kelly takin UConn. 6/29/05 Newsday: UConn Lands Recruit Curtis Kelly.  12/03 NY Hoops # 2.

11/3/04 TarHeel Radar: 'The Golden Dozen of 2006 includes # 10 Curtis Kelly.  Here's one of those kids who can be as good as he wants to be. The 6-9 forward can handle, pass and shoot. And he can jump out of the gym. He's too explosive and long not to be a good defender and he'll rack up blocked shots with his 7-2 wingspan. Often compared to Lamar Odom, Kelly can rebound and take the ball coast to coast for a dunk. And he can do it with a quickness. He'll need to mature with his decisions with the ball and he's got so much natural but raw ability, but whether or not he works hard enough in the classroom and on the court remains to be the big question.'10/27/04 The Hoopstown Top 25 Underclassmen # 14. Curtis Kelley 6-9 SF Rice (New York, NY) Class of 2006 – This extremely athletic forward truly hustles… He’s an excellent shot-blocker and defender… Runs hard and catches everything thrown his way… Goes to the basket aggressively… Has a nice array of offensive weapons down low, including a skyhook and a good short range jumper… Developing a mid to long-range jumper to compliment his inside game would be nothing short of spectacular.  1/30/04 NY Post: Rice's 6-8 sophomore, Curtis Kelly, fired up for debut.  7/4/03 Rivals: Curtis Kelly (New York Gauchos) 6-foot-9 power forward Long and lean... athletic shot blocker... raw offensive player but very active.  12/01 GB # 4. 6/02 JPM: 'Probably the second best talent in this class behind Derrick Character and a national ranking is likely. Curtis is a long, quick lefty who is starting to develop a face up game. He runs the floor very well, has good timing on his blocks and keeps the ball in play. The comparisons to Lamar Odom are tempting but Curtis is already a half foot taller than Lamar was in the eighth grade and Curtis may have some more growing in him. Curtis is apparently heading for Rice next year where he and fellow freshman, Terrell McKenzie may see some playing time on the varsity.'  2/11/02 IS8 -  Speaking of loaded the Gauchos have 6-7 eighth grader Curtis Kelly playing in the middle for their Midget and Junior teams.  2/02 Curtis is part of the awesome Gauchos frontline at IS8 Winter Classic with 6-0 Terrell McKenzie (GB # 1) and 6-2 Kashif Pratt (GB # 2).  3/7/03 GB # 1.

Dasean Butler, 6-5 guard Bloomfield Tech, NJ. 12/18/04 NJ.com small forwards - # 7 'He played a support role with several facets last season on a team with talented senior guards. He has played all five positions, sometimes in the same game. The 6-6 junior dribbles with certainty, rebounds well and is an exceptional passer. He just may lead Bloomfield Tech back to the Group 1 title.'  12/16/04 Metro Hoops: Top New Jersey Juniors: # 5.  Desean emerged as the money player for the Cyclones this summer. Butler sizzled with a wet pull up and the ability to finish with both hands. What makes Desean so good is that he specializes in what many young players neglect, a mid range game.  6/6/04 Metrohoops Showcase Day 1 Report. 'The silky smooth 6’5 wing player showed the versatility that has him labeled as one on the top sophomores in the state. He displayed the total package long range jumpers, pullups and post up moves. He also showed the strength to be able to guard bigger players in the post.'

7/4/03 Metro Hoops: Dasean Butler (Bloomfield Tech/Jersey Cyclones) 6-foot-5 shooting guard - Solid shooter who can also get to the basket... decent athleticism... above average passer...Can play positions 1-4...Decent range on jump shot! Needs develop more consistent jump shot...in the long run he could be tops in the class of 2005. Earned The Next Camp Hustler Award!'

Kimmani Barrett 6-5 forward, Paterson Catholic, NJ Hoop Scoop # 159. 5/28/05 NorthJersey.com: Five Paterson Catholic boys basketball players  - Kimmani Barrett, teammates Jerrell and Terrell Williams, sophomore Jare' Adams and freshman Jordan Theodore - have been invited to the prestigious adidas camps this summer.  4/1/05 NJO: Passaic  county season in review  -- Player of the year and All Passaic first team -- Swing averaged 17 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals for 22-5 team. 12/18/04 NJ.com shooting guards - # 7 'He's a versatile 6-5 athlete who's as comfortable advancing the ball up the floor against pressure as he is posting up someone three inches taller. Barrett averaged 11 points and 8.5 rebounds as a junior, but caught fire in the state tournament. He scored 28 points in a 62-43 victory over St. Patrick's in the North Jersey, Parochial B semifinals.'

12/12/04 Metro Hoops: Top New Jersey Juniors Part 1(#15-11): #11-15.  # 12. Barrett is a strong and athletic forward, who prefers to get it done inside. Barrett demonstrates the knack to score and possesses great jumping ability and passion for the game. Kimmani is very underrated and deserves more credit for his play.  7/03 Tommie Patterson's Pat Cat Cougars next year will rely on their  six sophomores - the 6-7 twins Terrell and Jerrell Williams, 6-0 point guard Nicodemus Eaton, 6-8 Ramar Pennell, 6-1 Ray Taylor and 6-5 Kimmani Barrett for excitement and the promise of things to come.

Edgar Sosa 6-1 point guard Rice, NY. 8/04 Edgar and Hickman Simmons are two of the most improved players in this class. Edgar starred for the Dyckman Youth Enterprise senior team at UDC where they made it to the championship game only to lose to the Bingo All Stars. Edgar played off the ball for DYE and if Taskico Brown can handle the point guard duties, Edgar will probably do the same for Rice this season.  12/22/03 John P Miciotta: 'The best shooter in this class with deep range. Strength and handle are improving.'

Eugene Harvey  6-0, St Benedict, NJ   12/18/04 NJ.com point guards - # 6 'The 6-1 junior returns to run the show for one of the state's most talented teams. The team's top returning scorer averaged 7.3 points and a team-leading 4.5 assists last year. Has added some upper-body strength and is a tenacious defender in St. Benedict's man-to-man press.'  12/14/04 Metro Hoops: Top New Jersey Juniors: # 7.  The Big Apple native holds the crown as the best guard in this class. Eugene shows great patience and poise while running the show for the Gray Bees. Harvey's hesitation dribble and quick change of direction makes it impossible for any guard to contain his penetration.   11/23/04 Daily News: 'The Brooklyn-born playmaker may have lost two key teammates in J.R. Smith and Alex Galindo but he will be throwing passes to one of the biggest and best targets in the state, Lance Thomas. '

11/3/04 Metro Hoops  Before playing against Harvey defenders must make sure that their ankles are taped. Eugene keeps defenders off balance with crossovers and change of direction moves. (Just ask the guard he dropped at the Eddie Griffin Challenge). Harvey is like a quiet assassin because he never seems to change facial expressions as he kills you.'    6/27/03 Hoop Scoop - 'We also have heard that ...  soph. Eugene Harvey from Brooklyn (Boys & Girls) NY, who is the #13-ranked sophomore in New York City on Ron Naclerio's updated list is transferring to Newark (St. Benedict's) NJ. Eugene will repeat his sophomore year.'  5/02 JPM 'Eugene may be the purest point guard in this class for our region.  He's heady, has a good handle and plays tough defense. As a freshman he started at the point for the Boys & Girls varsity and at IS8 this spring he led his Rebel team to the semis, where he got the IS8 'newcomer of the year' award.  Eugene needs to working on his shooting - from the perimeter and the foul line - and he needs to get stronger.'   11/5/99 Brooklyn Scout: 'The Brooklyn USA 8th-grade AAU team will travel to play Minneapolis South, the Minnesota 8th-grade state AAU champions, on Thursday, November 11 at the Target Center. The match-up will be held before the NBA contest between the Minnesota Timberwolves and the New York Knicks.  The Brooklyn USA team will feature five nationally-ranked players including Eugene Harvey (#1 seventh grader, Hoop Scoop).  3/03 GB # 7.

Antonio Pena 6'7 center Lincoln, NY.  9/28/04 John P Miciotta: 'The Weekend at IS8 -- Antonio Pena scored 31 points using a variety of moves both facing the basket in the post. For me, the best move of the day was a simple one where he got the ball on the low block against Bailey, turned to face him and rather than force his way to the hoop and risk a charging foul, he used a hard jab step that got Bailey just a little bit off balance and then floated in a tough fade away jumper just over Bailey's outstretched hand. When his high school career began Antonio was primarily a rebounder, but now he's on his way to becoming a versatile scorer who will cause major problems with his quickness for power forwards and perhaps with his strength for small forwards .

12/03 John P Miciotta: 'After seeing limited time as a varsity freshman, Antonio blossomed in his sophomore campaign and became a terrific player for the state champion Railsplitters. Nowhere was this more evident than in the state final against Christ the King when he basically took the game over and rallied his team from a substantial deficit after Sebastian Telfair fouled out. His wide bottom, broad shoulders and good hands stand out. But if one sees them first he is likely to be surprised by how athletic Pena is. He runs the floor exceptionally well, has a soft touch around the basket, a polished low post game and the beginnings of a nice face up game which he must continue to develop. He's a hard worker who made great improvement last year, and there's no reason to think he won't continue to get better.'  5/02 JPM 'Antonio was a varsity player for Lincoln this past season serving as a backup to their starting frontline players. He is an aggressive, wide body player with good hands and feet.  Antonio is the younger brother of John Pena, the Bishop Loughlin guard who played with Mark Jackson et al.  Antonio played for the Juice All Stars at IS8 this spring with Sebastian, Chris Taft and Karron Clark.  2/22/03 Insiders Hoops: He’s got a body to be a banger and plenty of skill for a young player. He does a nice job of playing big inside and is a very good rebounder. He’s tough and can score. He’s a high-major big man.  3/03 GB # 12.  7/4/03 Rivals: Antonio Pena (Long Island Panthers) 6-foot-7 power forward Strong high post game... good build... could be more assertive.

Douggie Wiggins 6-0 point guard, East Hartford High Ct. 3/24/05 John P Miciotta: 'Norm Roberts and his staff secured an important early verbal for St. John's '06 recruiting class when speedy point guard Doug Wiggins said "yes" to the Red Storm. Our readers may remember that Wiggins excelled against some of the best competition in our region at both the Gauchos Classic and at Pete Edwards' IS8 Spring Classic playing for the Fairfield County Stars. He is a quick guard who uses both the cross over and change of pace dribble effectively and his shooting is good enough to keep defenses honest. He'll need to get stronger to pressure the ball better at the next level. He is a quick and alert defender who, even without good strength creates steals and deflections with good anticipation and court awareness.'

10/14/04 Coach Anthony M. Menard: 'Douggie is a 6'0 guard and a 3.0 student.'  10/14/04 Fairfield County lost 37-31 to Above & Beyond during the Roundball regular season and lost by one to JYO at IS8 last night on a last second trey from Vic Morris. But they're in the Roundball high school semis this Saturday because they led wire to wire against A&B tonight winning 78-71 behind their backcourt stars Douggie Wiggins (27) and Mike Trimboli (18). 10/12/04 John P Miciotta: Sunday at IS8 -- Fairfield featured fine prospects in senior Brandon Sullivan and junior Douggie Wiggins. Wiggins, a 5’11” point man from East Hartford High has great quickness and unusual poise. He has the look of a high major prospect.'

Jerrell Williams (Paterson Catholic/Playaz Basketball) 6-foot-7 forward. 12/18/04 NJ.com small forwards # 5 'He and twin, power forward Terrell, are interchangeable commodities. Both averaged 14 points and seven rebounds to help young Paterson Catholic (20-6) to the North Jersey, Parochial B final. Jerrell has a bit more range on his jumper than Terrell and shows a creative flair with the ball.'  12/12/04 Metro Hoops: Top New Jersey Juniors Part 1(#15-11)  # 11.  Jerrel was a major piece of that loaded Playaz 16 and Under squad that swarmed the circuit last summer. The swing has developed into the go to man at PC because of his athleticism and developed jumper.  6/20/04 NorthJerseyJerrell Williams in control of Paterson Catholic.

3/21/04 All-Passaic: Boys basketball -- first team Jerrel Williams, Paterson Catholic, Sophomore. Emerged as a clutch scorer and tough rebounder on a team that went to the Parochial B final.. Second team -- Terrel Williams, Paterson Catholic, Sophomore & Kimmani Barrett, Paterson Catholic, Sophomore. 7/4/03 Metro Hoops: 'Explosive athlete... drives hard to the basket...Nice frame... good low post game and can also get to the rim with the dribble from the perimeter. Made All-Star Team.'

Qa'rraan Calhoun 6-8, Raritan, NJ  12/8/04 Metro Hoops Top 25 Seniors # 1-5 # 5. QuaRaan Calhoun 6’7 Forward (Raritan). Calhoun may appear on some rankings as a junior, but since this will be his last run through Jersey we decided to throw him in with the seniors. Quaraan put on a show during last years run through the state tourney. His leaping ability and three point range had the onlookers drooling. Look for a repeat performance from Calhoun.   11/23/04 Daily News: 'A rare big man who excels more on the perimeter than he does in the paint, Calhoun will be relied on more this season since the Rockets, a TOC semifinalist a year ago, lost two starters to graduation. He'll likely end up at a prep school next year.'  11/23/04 Daily News: True teammates, Marques Johnson and Qa'rraan Calhoun.   9/02 NJ Hoops # 10. 5/27/04 RivalsHoops 2006 Top 100 now includes # 66 Qa'rraan Calhoun.  3/5/03 Hoops Scoop national rankings lists from this region  # 83 Qa'rraan Calhoun.

Jon Mitchell 6-6,  power forward, Mt Vernon, NY. 2/04 Ranked nationally # 14 by Rivals behind behind Caracter #3, Kelly #5, Carter #9 and Zoubek #12 from this region. 12/01 GB # 6. 10/21/02 John P Miciotta: 'Mt. Vernon's super frosh Jon Mitchell was named Rookie of the Year and in the opinion of this observer established himself as the second best freshman in our region behind Caracter. 12/20/02 Lonnie Webb: 'Mount Vernon High School has a very talented and young team this year however, don't let that fool you. Coach Bob Cimino's Knights are for real.   6'2" junior Keith Benjamin, 6'5" junior Dexter Gray, and 6'6" freshman Johnathan Mitchell lead the way for this very talented team.   1/19/03 Journal News: 'Mount Vernon 82, Shenendahowa 79: In the first round of the Jimmy V. Tournament at LaSalle Institute in Troy, Jonathan Mitchell and Ernie Brown scored 19 points each to lead Mount Vernon, which won by its slimmest margin this season.  3/03 GB # 2.

Casim Drummond 6-9 forward Bloomfied Tech NJ.  12/14/04 Metro Hoops: Top New Jersey Juniors: # 6.  When Casiem is motivated he can put up numbers against anyone in the country. At times he is the most dominant player on the court. The long post player has a good touch and eats rebounds.   6/6/04 Metrohoops Showcase Day 1 Report. 'Drummond the other part of the dynamic duo from Bloomfield Tech (with Dasean Butler) was a man amongst boys. The 6’10 manchild had his way with the competition this afternoon. He showed improvement on his post moves and intensity on defense. He also seemed to be very comfortable dribbling and shooting from the perimeter. His presence alone caused problems for opponents.'  9/02 NJ Hoops # 3.

7/4/03 Metro Hoops: 'Casiem Drummond (Bloomfield Tech/Jersey Cyclones) 6-8 power forward -- Great build... strong rebounder who gets to the free throw line...Handles rock well...Can shoot from 10ft out with consistency...if this kid works hard all the time he could be special. Had a great camp lived up to his #2 ranking in the class of 2006 in New Jersey. Made All-Star Team.'

Shomari Spears, 6-6 forward, Blair Academy NJ. 12/18/04 NJ.com small forwards - # 2 'The rugged, 6-6 junior from North Carolina has already drawn interest from several ACC schools. He came on offensively toward the end of last season and was nearly unstoppable inside. A feathery touch from the perimeter helped him average 17 points a game as a sophomore, scoring 19 or more in each of the last six games.'  12/16/04 Metro Hoops: Top New Jersey Juniors:  # 4.  While other players get the lime light and pub, Spears gets it done. With a Jerry Walker type body (broad shoulders and long arms) Shamari scores at will anywhere inside the arc. His quiet demeanor causes some to look past him, but when the buzzer sounds check the book and you’ll be sure to find 20 and 10.

11/25/03 NJ Hoops: 'Shomari Spears, 6-5 forward,  transferred into Blair and has been reclassified as a repeat sophomore. Spears passed the 1,000-point mark as a sophomore, and averaged 27.3 points per game.' Insiders: 'He's a manchild in the middle and a beast on the boards.'

Trevon (Poppy) Hughes  6-0 guard St. Johns - Northwestern Military Academy, Wi..  7/8/05 Newsday: Trevon Hughes salutes life at military school.   8/15/99 . The Manhasset All Stars won the Biddie division against the Rifles 51 - 50. With a second to go Trevon Hughes (Gameball #19) of the Rifles had two foul shots. He made them both but the ref called a lane violation (!) on the second shot. The Rifles Trevon Hughes, Ray Arnold and Jarrett Petty are a great trio, but Manhassett has the depth.  7/00 Ray and Trevon are leading the Rifles Midget team this summer at IS8.

Justin Burrell 6-8 center Our Savior Lutheran, Bronx. 7/7/05 Daily News: Justin Burrell is a big hit on hardwood.  6/24/05 NY Insider: 'Three New York City schools offer Justin Burrell. Justin may not be a household name on the national recruiting radar, but the athletic 6-foot-7, 220 pound power forward from Our Savior Lutheran H.S. in the Bronx, N.Y., is getting plenty of attention thus far from the locals. Justin, who helped lead Our Savior Lutheran to the final four of this past weekend's Metro/East qualifier for the AND 1 High School Basketball Championships, said he's been offered scholarships thus far by three New York City based programs -- Fordham, St. John's and St. Francis College. "I like those schools, but I am still waiting," Burrell said. "I am going to the ABCD Camp, and things could change after that."  6/05 And1 tournament -- OSL beat Grady in the morning quarterfinals but lost 55-44 to St Benedict in the semis. Justin Burrell - Rising senior' is such a cliche that I can't bring myself to use it, even for Burrell, but if anyone ever deserved it, he sure does. He's had two weekends going up against top rate competition and dominating in the paint. It will be interesting to see in the coming weeks which college programs recognize that and step up their efforts the quickest.  5/25/05 NY Hoops Class of 2006 rankings - # 11. Justin Burrell.

Quintan Redfern 6-3 guard, St Raymond, NY.  6/04  Quintan is getting significant playing time at the And 1 tournament with St Rays. Coach Antigua likes his work ethic and natural athletic ability. 12/03 Quintan, Devin Epps and Torrance McGill are the three sophs on the 14 man Raven varsity roster. 7/5/03 Brooklyn Scout: 'The Adidas NEXT Camp, featuring 80 of the top rising freshmen and sophomores from around the country, completed a four-day run this week at the College of New Jersey in Ewing. The camp concluded with the Blue-White All-Star game, won by the Blue team 123-98. Six area players were among the 20-man lineup for the All Star game including : Quintan Redfern,  rising soph.'

Austin Wallace 6-8 forward LaSalle Academy, NYC. 6/15/04 Rumble in the Bronx: The Gauchos, City Rocks game may have been the day's best as the 'chos held on for a 60-57 victory despite a 28 point effort from the Rocks' Taylor Battle. The Gauchos' trio of Austin Wallace (pictured), Dakell Glen and Anthony Gill got 21, 14 and 12 to ensure the win. Wallace is most impressive. He is a 6-7 fluid post player somewhat reminiscent of and comparable to Curtis Kelly as he is long, agile and good around the hoop. Austin will be a young junior at LaSalle Academy next season (he transferred. but didn't play this year) and is the early favorite to be the CHSAA division A most impressive player.  3/8/04 John P Miciotta: 'much of the nucleus of the LaSalle team that now heads to the semi-finals against the St. John's Prep-Fordham Prep winner returns next season. Juniors Brandon Roberts, Jessie Bradley and Patrick Thomas all return next season and will be joined by 6-8 transfer Austin Wallace to form a contender in what should be a highly competitive "A" division that's chock full of talent that will not get the recognition of their "AA" brethren, but that local low majors as well as D-II and D-III programs should watch carefully.'

7/28/03 Coach Willie Negron: 'In a great hoops contest at the Gun Hill Basketball Classic, the WillieHowieAllstars 2-3 staved off elimination in a rematch of last year semifinals by beating undefeated Dyckman by 54-52 in overtime.  The Willie Howies were led by 6-7 sophomore Austin Wallace from South Bronx with 8 blocks.'

Terrell Williams 6-7 W/F (Paterson Catholic/Playaz Basketball) 6-foot-7  forward. 7/4/03 Metro Hoops: 'Explosive athlete... nice jumper with range... Laurence Jolicouer 6'7 forward Holy Cross, NY  7/19/03 John P Miciotta -- High School Summer Challenge, 2003 @ St. Raymond HS: 'The Knights only size comes from 6'6" soph Lawrence Joliceur and though the reed thin youngster was a factor defensively, he wasn't ready to be a scorer. He held his own against fellow soph Casim Drummond, who outweighs him by at least 30 pounds. He used his outstanding quickness and timing to block several shots, change many others, and compete for rebounds.'  6/02 JPM: 'Laurence is a talented kid from the Ocean Hill, Brownsville section who plays AAU for Riverside. He is a legit 6-4, raw, but long and athletic with a promising upside.'  3/7/03 GB # 22.

Myron Rolle 6-2 forward Hun School, NJ  8/04 Myron is now at the Hun School in Princeton. 12/03 Myron is probably the state's highest rated football player (linebacker) in this class, already offered by Oklahoma.  9/02 NJ Hoops # 9. 7/17/02Yankee Bowe: 'How could you not list Myron Rolle from St. Augustine's College Preparatory School, Richland, New Jersey? As a freshman, he started many games and was a vital part of the Prep's basketball team.  Myron was just as effective as Anthony Farmer, another Prep freshman, but played the 4 and occasionally the 3. Much more athletic than most freshmen. Plays excellent defense with exceptional jumping abilities. Can improve his handle and three point shooting but overall game is improving significantly. Continues to be a standout in Sunny Hill Summer League, 2002. Averaged 8 points and between 7 to 10 rebounds per game as a freshman for the Prep. You should investigate and evaluate his talents.'

Dwight Hardy, 6-2 wing JFK, Bronx. 10/12/04 John P Miciotta: 'Sunday at IS8 -- The Bronxites from John F. Kennedy High raced to an early lead that they never relinquished. The back court of senior Amaury Fermin and junior Dwight Hardy was the difference. They moved the ball well, took and made good shots, and established a comfortable pace. Hardy’s play was especially good when one considers that he has yet to play a varsity game for Kennedy. According to last season’s roster he stayed and played on Kennedy’s JV. roster as a soph. Hardy may have had the quietest 35 in IS8 history. And that “quiet” was a tribute to how well he played. He scored 35 without taking a single bad shot. He scored from middle distance, from long range and on the drive. And most of all he handled the ball with the poise and confidence of a varsity veteran. He and Fermin are not one of the city’s more heralded back courts but they should be.'

Josh Frazier 6'6 2006 PF Westbury NY.  3/7/03 GB # 3.

Stanley Harris 6-7 forward  East Orange Campus NJ. 12/14/04 Metro Hoops: Top New Jersey Juniors: # 6-10. # 10. When healthy Harris is one of the most dominant post players in the state. Stanley had a strong AAU season before being sidelined with an injury. Harris establishes post position well and uses an array of moves to score down low. Improved range on his jumper could boost his stock.   9/02 NJ Hoops # 5.  6/6/04 Metrohoops Showcase Day 1 Report. 'The 6’7 Harris attacks the rim fearlessly. He also loves to contest and block shots. Harris has excellent post moves and showed a medium range jumper. If he plays with motivation the sky is the limit for the kid.' 11/4/03  T-Bone: 'Stanley Harris is no longer enrolled at St.Patricks.

He figures to continue that role at Christ the King this season sharing backcourt minutes with Chris Martin and Malik Boothe. 10/6/03 John P Miciotta: 'IS8 -- the day kicked off with Southside playing Philly Ballers. Larry Davis really set a nice tone for his team with his unselfishness. Davis, who tired late in the game, was especially impressive because even when their wasn't a play to be made for an assist he often made the pass that led to the assist displaying unusual poise and patience for a sophomore. . 3/7/03 GB # 8. 7/19/03 John P Miciotta -- High School Summer Challenge, 2003 @ St. Raymond HS: Soph Larry Davis fit in nicely with the varsity group with his defensive quickness, ability to get to the basket and make outside shots.

Luis Guzman 6-2 Paramus Catholic guard, NJ. 12/14/04 Metro Hoops: Top New Jersey Juniors: # 6-10.. # 9. Guzman proved his worth after finishing as one of the top point guards at Adidas Superstar Camp and winning MVP of the Metrohoops North/ South Showdown. Luis can fill it up when required, but is blossoming into a true floor general.   9/02 NJ Hoops # nr.

3/29/03 PIMPNFLYPAPI2003: 'How come Paramus Catholic's freshman Luis Guzman doesn't get any respect?  He is the best freshman in north Jersey, starting point guard for the varsity. Now you tell me what you think. Tell me what other freshman besides Luis has averaged 16.9 points or better.  Good rebounder, pure shooter, slasher.  Plus he is 6-1 and plays with the Gauchos.  He dropped 18 points on Bergen Catholic,19-points on Don Bosco,16 points on Teaneck, 22 points on Englewood, 21 points on Eastside and 20-points on Kennedy. Jabari Hennley-Edwards 6'9 center Poly Prep, Brooklyn, NY. 7/8/05 Daily News: Transfer trend is escape from N.Y. -- Christian Morris and Jabari Edwards.  11/23/04 Daily News: Edwards - whose first name means "fearless" in Swahili - is being scouted by a host of schools, including St. John's, UConn, Syracuse, Georgetown and Notre Dame, though he says he doesn't have a preference yet. He's also coming off a sophomore season in which he averaged 17 points per game and 10 rebounds to help Poly Prep on its NYSAIS class B state championship run.
But there's more to come, says McNally. "He's still growing and he's still filling out," his coach says. "He's got a lot of potential." Edwards says he did plenty of filling out during the off season. "I've grown two inches every year since fifth grade," says Edwards. "I've grown three this past summer."

Being the biggest man on the court helps, especially with his rebounding and his shot-blocking, but Edwards says he'll be looking to improve the aspects of his game where height isn't necessarily an advantage. "I'm not gonna be able to play center on the next level," he says. Christian Brothers yielded only 38 points per game, holding 16 of 29 foes under 40 points.  "We might have not had the best athletes, but we played together real well and were well-coached," Werner said. Though only a junior, Dan Werner easily assumed the role as his team's go-to performer. The 6-7 forward averaged 16.2 points and 7.4 rebounds to lead Christian Brothers to the Shore Conference title and add his name to the recruiting list of many of the nation's top college programs.  All-Monmouth first team -- Averaged 16.2 points and 7.4 rebounds in leading team to Shore Conference title.

Not the greatest instinctive passer, but he's a strong defender, he's poised, clutch and a winner. Brian played with Brooklyn USA when he was younger.'   3/7/03 GB # 29.

Ruben Guilluidex 6’5 swing, St. Patrick (NJ).  10/17/04 John P Miciotta: Saturday at IS8 - In the late stages of the third and early stages of the fourth quarter Starrett got a nice lift from Ruben Guilluidex who scored eight of his twelve points during that span. 10/16/04 IS8 -- In the first Playaz game Q'arren Calhoun (game high 26) and Wayne Ellington (25) were too much for Levance Fields (25 and as always an impressive performance), Saiquon Stone (15) and Ruben Guilluidex (12). 9/27/04 NY Hoops 2006 # 7. Now 6-6 with a bit more distance on his jumper, Williams, a junior, with the help of classmate guard Luis Guzman, should lead Paterson Catholic to a better showing in the states.'

Improved range on his jumper would increase is stock.'  9/02 NJ Hoops # 12.  10/12/04 John P Miciotta: Sunday at IS8 -- For the Heat, junior Daquan Cook had a fine game using his quickness under the basket. The reed thin 6’6’ lefty can score inside and is a fine competitor who is a solid mid major prospect now who could attract high major interest if he keeps improving.   9/04 Daquan played for the NY Heat at this fall's IS8 and did well.  Rivals bio: 'Cook is a long forward who has shown a decent mid-range touch and can put it on the floor at bit.'

He's a point guard with a motor and good handle.

David Bullock 6-1 wing St Anthony, NJ.   4/1/05 NJO: Hudson county season in review  -- Ironman: David Bullock provided a sparkling performance for a St. Anthony team that was plagued by illnesses and injuries. The 6-0 junior guard did not miss a game for St. Anthony (21-6). He averaged nine points but more importantly led the team in rebounds (seven), steals (four) and blocks (three) per game. "David was our most consistent player," St. Anthony coach Bob Hurley Sr. said. "He came through in every aspect and had a great season for us."   All Hudson first team -- Outstanding defender at guard averaged 9.8 points and seven rebounds and team-high four steals.  5/28/03  GoDSoN840: 'David Bullock of the Jersey City Heat, should definitely be on your list. He's a freshman at St. Anthony's High School, a forward listed at 6'1. Great defensive player! Their first 5 games he was averaging better than 29 ppg, 15 rpg, and 6 blkpg with a couple of assists. Kenny Watson 6-1 guard Hillside, NJ.  4/1/05 NJO: Union county season in review  -- All-junior first team: Kenny Watson. 12/22/04 Metro Hoops: Under The Radar Juniors includes Kenny Watson. 'Watson looked impressive at times playing for Team KA last summer. Kenny is a scorer trapped in a point guards’ frame. The cat quick guard is a vocal leader and intense competitor. On defense he loves to harass opposing ball handlers with great ball pressure.'  6/6/04 Metrohoops Showcase Day 1 Report. 'If speed kills than this kid was an assassin. Watson spent the afternoon knifing through defenses for layups or pullup jumpers. His jumpshot was falling for most of the afternoon. He also seems to be making more of an effort to drive hard left. His defense intensity and leadership skills are apparent.'

Josh Lopez 5-9 point guard St. Mary, NJ.  4/1/05 NJO: Hudson county season in review  -- All Hudson second team -- Josh Lopez St. Mary's. Sharpshooters: Josh Lopez emerged as a serious threat from the perimeter for St. Mary's of Jersey City. The 5-9 point guard, who saw limited playing time as a sophomore last season, buried a school-record 91 3-pointers this season and averaged 20.2 points. "I knew he had a good shot, but I was astounded by his range," St. Mary's coach Tom Lalicato said. "We had games where he was hitting six, seven, even eight 3-pointers and the other team's fans were standing and cheering for him. He was an unknown at the beginning of the year, but I don't think that's the case anymore."

Horace McGloster forward Shabazz.NJ. 4/1/05 NJO: 'Essex county season in review  -- All-junior first team. Surprise player: Horace McGoster seemed to make improvements in his game on a daily basis for Shabazz. Surprise team: Union Catholic had only one senior in its usual rotation yet went 17-6 after two consecutive eight-victory seasons and a 1-19 finish in 2001-02. Juniors drove this team, which played tough man-to-man defense and balanced the scoring generously among juniors led by Mike Seamon, the scrappy point guard.'

Anthony Stukes 6-3, Banneker, Brooklyn.  5/04 Anthony averaged more than 16 points and 10 assists a game for the Warriors this past season. 12/03 NY Hoops # 12.  4/03 Anthony is playing  his AAU ball for Doc Nicelli's Madison Broncos.   3/22/03 Bryan Griffith, N.I.K.E.-1 Big Apple Sports: 'regarding freshman Anthony Stukes, I must second the notion that Anthony is clearly a player who has performed like a "seasoned' player for most of the entire season at Benjamin Banneker. His solid and consistent performance during the season and certainly in the semi-final and championship games of the PSAL playoffs should in my opinion qualify him for at least All-City consideration. In addition congratulations to Coach Saunders and the Banneker team for representing Bklyn III-A well. On a related note, Anthony's brother (Roberto) has been a solid player for San Bernadino Valley College in California where he led his team to the Final Four in the 2003 California Junior College Playoffs.'  3/9/03 Daily News: Banneker puts up its Stukes.

Mohamed Lo, 6'7 forward, Port Chester NY   10/27/04 Coach Tom Sampogna: 'Port Chester High School - the Rams fill a void with  6'7 sophomore center Mohammad Lo (transfer from South Maryland Christian Academy, via McClancy).  3/7/03 GB # 4  8/16/04 Louis Xifaras: 'Mohamed Lo will be attending prep school this coming season, being re-classified into the class of 2007.'

11/19/01 Louis Xifaras: 'Mohamed Lo is one of the least known players in the country, but may be one of the best for his age. At the age of 13 and a wide 6'5 frame, Mohamed can handle the ball and shoot the three. When you talk about shot blockers, this kid fits the bill. His timing is unbelievable. Mohamed's rebounding skill is very mature, keeping the ball high and looking for an outlet pass immediately. Mohamed has a very soft touch around the basket, however his footwork needs work. When you see this kid run the floor, you think "is he a center, or a guard?" He will sure be noticed once high school season begins next year. Mohamed has last played for the Queens RimRockers in I.S. 8.

Rhakee Begum 5'8 2008 WF Christ the King, NY.  8/30/02  Rhakee plays for Team Next with Erving Walker. Rhakee is similar to Vincent Ntal in the class in that Rhakee (pronounced Rocky) appears to be physically mature already.  But like Vincent,  Rhakee has the ability and agility to easily project as a perimeter player in high school. Rhakee, Erving (each 12 years old) and class of 2009 star 11 year old Lance Stephenson are all playing up at Kenny Anderson this summer and are undefeated heading into the 13 under championship game.  This picture was taken in May at Island Garden's Metro NY Boys AAU Championship when Team Next beat the Gauchos for the 12 under championship. 3/7/03 GB nr

Jonathan Brit 5'4 PG Burlington NJ Northern Burlington  HS # 54 in southern Jersey, Pa.

Tim Caffrey 6-4 forward St Francis Prep, NY. 12/22/03 John P Miciotta: 'Like Monroe's Michael Glover Tim plays on a team that needs him to play around the basket but he has a real good all around game. Just needs to improve his quickness to defend away from the hoop.' 12/03 Tim is the only sophomore on the SFP varsity roster. He's the second tallest player on the team and at 210 pounds he adds some needed bulk.

Adam Care 6-0 point guard Mainland Regional, NJ. 6/7/04 Metrohoops Showcase Day 2 Report: 'The 6’0 guard brings many intangibles to the floor. He brings great intensity on both ends and doesn’t mind sacrificing his body for the team. He also can hit the open jumper when required.'

Sean Crawford 5-6 guard Cardozo, NY  12/01 GB # 33. 10/04 Real Scout: 'Now let's get to the two top transfers! Forget about all that Kevin White and Dereck Echols Lincoln stuff. The best transfer players of the summer were to Cardozo- 11th grader Sean Crawford 5'8 pg (Holy Cross) and 12th grader Marques Cox (Rice). Wow! This is the best defensive back court in the city...public or Catholic. Crawford (cousin of Brian Laing) is one of the few guards who can really shoot the ball and guard a man from end to end. I've seen him play a lot this summer and he never backed down from anybody. He can score in bunches, and has the makings of Tyrell Cruz (Boys & Girls) all over again. 3/12/00  IS8 Sunday finals - In the Biddie game 80 Park easily took the Springfield Rifles 56 - 39. 80 Park led throughout - 14 - 3 after one,  25 - 13 at the half and 42 - 26 going into the final quarter.

Biddy MVP Wes Fredrique scored 26 for the winners, while Nick Reynolds (8 for 9 from the line) and Sean Crawford had 14 and 10 points. Boothe,  Crawford and Fredrique are marvelous defensive ballhawks and solid ball handlers.   2/02 Sean is part of the 80 Park midget team that is talented and deep.  With their Gameball rankings it includes Malik Boothe (#4 for 2007), Jeffrey Claude (GB 58), Hickman Simmons (GB # 14), Darius Gabriel (GB # 19), Steven Wood (GB # 7), Nick Reynolds (GB # 46) and Jacor Riddick (GB # 49).   3/7/03 GB # 50

David Cubillan  6-2, guard, St Benedict NJ. 12/21/04 Metro Hoops: Coming out party for David Cubillan12/12/04 Metro Hoops: Top New Jersey Juniors Part 1(#15-11): . # 13. David Cubillan  Who is this you ask? Don’t worry you will know before the season ends. Cubillan is a lead guard that can do it all. He plays in your shirt defense from baseline to baseline. David also has ultra quick penetration moves and excellent 3 point accuracy. To top it off word has it that he will throw it down when given the opportunity. 6/04 Coach Hurley's import from Venezuela. David is part of St Benedict's 3 man backcourt with fellow junior Eugene Harvey and senior Eric Moore at the And1 tournament at Seton Hall.

Chris Davis 6-4 forward Cardinal Hayes, Bronx. 11/03 Chris is one of two sophs along with 5-8 point guard Lateef Willis to make the Hayes' varsity.

Devin Epps 6-2 forward Cardozo, NY   10/04 Devin has transferred to Cardozo this year.  2/03 Devin, Quinten Redfern and Torrance McGill are the three sophs on the 14 man Raven varsity roster.  6/02 JPM: 'Devin is hardnosed; he's competitive and tough around the basket. Devon needs to work on his lateral movement specifically and his perimeter skills in general. He is supposedly headed for Rice.'   3/7/03 GB # 6.

Daren Duncan 5-7 guard Christ the King, NY. 8/04 Darren is pictured here at UDC where he teamed with Malik Boothe in the backcourt for the Midget Future Stars team that made it to the finals. Darren started for the Stars, got serious playing time and in the chip held his own against the Metro Hawks Larry Davis and Mike Coburn.  He and Malik were an impressive backcourt at UDC and on last season's Royal JV. But Darren is young for this grade and that will hurt him this coming season as he competes for varsity minutes with Chris Martin, Larry Davis and Malik.  12/22/03 John P Miciotta: 'CK's Darren Duncan played great in a terrific JV win for Christ the King over St. Ray's. He appears to be progressing in a similar fashion to Brian McMikle and Corey Fisher, as a guy who's catching up physically and it's allowing his skill and poise to show themselves more.' 12/01 GB # 36 7/30/00   In the second biddie game Darren Duncan hit a trey with 25 seconds left to give North Babylon the victory.  Darren is the younger brother of Mitchell Beauford,  he's not yet 5' tall and is going into the sixth grade.  His grandfather believes he's better than Mitchell at this stage, but we won't be mentioning the class of 2007 for a few years yet!   3/7/03 GB # 49.

Willie Etheridge forward 6-1 IS.258, Boys & Girls, Brooklyn. 12/22/03 John P Miciotta: 'As I have written here earlier Willie Ethridge is a kid whose talent I really like. That said he is now enrolled at Boys High and has yet to play for Ruth Lovelace's Kangaroos. Off the court issues are believed to be the reason and frankly I have not in the last year seen him at any basketball venues (IS8 etc) While I hope and pray that he's ok and can get back on track, he should not be on a top tier list until he begins playing again.' 12/01 GB # 9  12/03 JPM: 'Willie is enrolled at Boys & Girls but not playing.' .6/02 JPM: 'One of my favorites. He is a legit wing defender with quick feet and long arms. On offense he finishes around the basket and is improving his perimeter game making significant strides in this past year. This is a very talented and promising class. Willie currently has as much potential as anyone in the group other than Derrick and Curtis.'   3/7/03 GB # 15.

James Feldeine 6-2 combo guard Cardinal Hayes, NYC.  11/26/04  David Trottman: 'James makes his varsity debut this year coached under the legendary Tom Murray of Hayes after coming off a wonderful JV season averaging over 20 points per game. James is often compared to Louisville's star forward Francisco Garcia, the way he shoots, dribbles and scores around the basket. Watch out for Hayes' trio in James Feldeine, Chris Davis and Lateef Willis. James plays AAU ball with New Heights coached by Nick Blatchford and often practices with the New York City Gauchos. He is also is best friends with Edgar Sosa and Chris De La Rosa and all three are mentored by Golden St. Warrior Luis Flores, aka. "Mr. Untouchable".

8/25/00 ThE AnSwEr 38:  'James Feldeine 5-5 point guard, Incarnation School, NY. Please add this skilled basketball player to your list. Good shooter, good ball-handler, good passing skills, good defense as well. He is a prime time player. He also has a few high-schools in mind such as Rice, All Hallows, St. Rays or CTK. I think you should come and see this kid play. He is good! If you want to know when they play call CYO and ask when the Incarnation Wildcats play and then you can see James Feldeine do some work on the basketball court. James also does play for the Washington Heights Warriors'   3/7/03 GB # 45.

Yannick Formbornono 6-7, forward St Patrick NJ. 6/05 Rumble in the Bronx -- Yannick Formbornono, 6-7 St Pats and NJ Roadrunners' center.

Lance Feurtado 6'3 forward Uniondale, NY.  3/13/04 Newsday: Uniondale at the wire; Feurtado's putback caps rally from 21 down, stuns Bay Shore. Jason Lamarre wound up with the ball, broke down the Bay Shore defense and missed a runner, but Lance Feurtado happened to be waiting on the weak side. Feurtado, a sophomore reserve forward, grabbed Uniondale's biggest rebound of the season and banked in a putback with seven-tenths of a second left.  12/03 JPM: 'Lance has moved from Westbury to Lu High.'  6/02 JPM: 'Even at this young age, Lance has a complete perimeter game. He has a sound overall game, a solid post passer, he finishes and spots up effectively on the break and is a top player for his AAU team, the Long Island Lightning. It's possible he may eventually project to a point guard position.'   3/7/03 GB # 28.

Frank Giambrone 6-6 center, Haddonfield NJ.  HS # 4 in southern Jersey. 9/02 NJ Hoops # 36.

Terrance Howard 6'0 2G McClancy, NYC.  2/23/04 John P Miciotta: 'CHSAA Junior Varsity quarter final games -- game 3 saw Xaverian narrowly beat a tough McClancy team thanks to clutch play down the stretch from guard Brian McMikle. His good work overcame a fine shooting effort from McClancy's Brian Reyes and some good slashing play from 6'3" wing Terrence Howard.  2/03 IS8 Winter Midget championship - The 80 Park trio of wing J.J. Garvin (22 points), center Terrence Howard and point guard Malik Boothe (17) bested Abyssinian's quartet of Malcolm Pope (19), Justin Rivers (18), Jamie Harris (9) and Kafele Carty (8).

Johnson has a decent outside shot but his ability to run a team is his biggest asset.'  6/04 Mike is joining Scotch Plains' teammate Lance Thomas moving to St Benedict.  6/7/04 Metrohoops Showcase Day 2 Report: 'The 5’10 point guard spent the afternoon running his team like a seasoned veteran. Johnson loves to play hard on both ends of the floor. But his ability to run a team outshines many of his other attributes. His excellent day earned a spot on the Metrohoops Showcase Second Team.'  11/03 Hoop Scoop # 159 nationally. 10/14/03 Terence Johnson: 'Soph. Akins Marshall  Egg Harbor Township, NJ. 6/7/04 Metrohoops Showcase Day 2 Report: 'Marshall electrified the spectators with his enormous leaping ability. Marshall brought the crowd to their feet many times this weekend but nothing compared to the flush fest he put on during the slam dunk competition. He won the event hands down.'

Shannon McBean 5-4,  Bryant, NY  12/01 GB # 13. 6/02 JPM: 'Very talented though slightly built player who has quick hands and sees the court very well.'  5/4/02 Louis Xifaras: 'Shannon McBean, straight out of Astoria, Queens, is a big time player in a small time body. This kid never gets intimidated by a bigger defender. He always goes strong to the basket, and is a fantastic defender. Shannon, for his size, is probably the best rebounder I have seen at his age. He always is in the mix in the paint, diving for every loose ball. Shannon has a lethal jumpshot, especially off the dribble. He sees the court very well and knows how to run the break. In practices, he is a coach's dream. Look for this player to be a top freshman in the class of 2006. Shannon will be running with my 14U Queens RimRockers team in the summer of 2002. You can find more information on Shannon at our webpage at www.QueensRimRockers.com.'   3/7/03 GB # 26.

.

Brian McKenzie 6'1" Xaverian He has a quick and long first step, puts the ball on the floor with good confidence. Good elevation on the jumpshot, good extension on the drive. Has terrific potential. Of course, results depend on how hard he works.' 3/03 GB # 20.

James Mills 6-0 guard Robeson, Brooklyn. 10/5/04 Coach Rock Eisenberg: 'Here is an update on former Tilden point guard junior James Mills. James was transferred from Tilden on Monday Oct. 4th 2004. I hope James ends up at Robeson where Coach Larry Major and former Coach Todd Myles can hopefully get him back on track. James is a talented young man who unfortunately could never get it together at Tilden off the court. I hope James grows up and fulfills his potential both in basketball and in life. One further note - nobody at Robeson did anything wrong here. I asked Larry Major to try and help James where I had failed to reach him. This is not a recruiting story rather this is a last chance for this young man to" Do the Right Thing".  9/2/04 Coach Eric Rock Eisenberg: 'James Mills, our talented but confused young point guard will not be back at Tilden this year. After discussing the situation with his guardian, the wonderful Ms. Mattie Thomas we all felt that James needed to change his environment in order for him to have a chance to grow up and mature into the fine person and player he can be. James needs to accept the responsibility that all young men and women in today's tough world must bear. He needs to look in the mirror and wake up before life passes him by and he becomes another casualty in the over hyped New York City basketball world. I believe that James will end up at Paul Robeson with his friend Malcolm Grant. It will be tough to play against them and if James is eligible they will be a great backcourt tandem. I am sure that Larry Major will be able to get the best out of James if James buys into Coach Major's system and listens to what "Maj" tells him on and off the court. Good luck to James Mills and most of all to Ms. Mattie Thomas who is a super woman and the kind of parent any child would be lucky to have.'

Matt Mullery St. John Vianney, NJ. 4/1/05 NJO: 'Monmouth county season in review  -- St. John Vianney's Matt Mullery tore the ACL and MCL in his right knee in August but returned to average 18.8 points over 20 games, scoring 20 or more in 12 of his final 13 contests. All-Monmouth second team.

He will be following on a familiar family path when he transfers to St. Benedict's Prep in Newark this coming fall. Chris's older brother, J.R. Smith, also switched from Lakewood to St. Benedict's where he played for two seasons before entering the NBA draft last June. Things paid off handsomely for J.R. Smith, who now starts for the New Orleans Hornets and scored a career-high 33 points just last Saturday. While Chris isn't shooting for the NBA draft in two years, he feels the transfer to St. Benedict's is necessary. "It's hard, really hard. Everybody wants me to stay," said Smith, who averaged 21 points, nine rebounds and five assists. He played last night for New Jersey against New York in the Metro Hoops Junior All-Star Game at East Orange Campus. "I don't want to leave, but I have to do what's best for me. I need an extra year to improve my body and my grades." Chris Smith this past week joined his brother in New Orleans for four days. This summer, he'll travel to Los Angeles to work out with J.R. Smith and budding NBA superstar LeBron James.  "J.R. told me what to expect. I've learned a lot watching him and what he went through," he said.   12/22/04 Metro Hoops: Under The Radar Juniors includes  Chris Smith. The younger brother of the Hornets' rookie is out to make a name for himself. Smith game has definitely developed the last two years. Chris has range from anywhere in the gym and of course inherited his siblings jumping ability. Look for this scoring swing man to make some noise.'   4/2/04 NJO 'It was an atypical season for perennial power Lakewood, but a closer look at the lineup reveals that coach John (Pott) Richardson was building for the future. Sophomore guard Chris Smith, brother of St. Benedict's star J.R. Smith, led the team with 17 points per game, with a high game of 33 vs. Msgr. Donovan.'

The Bayside High freshman, shown here with his mother, is also a standout on the football field for the Rifles.  2/20/00  Sunday morning at IS8:  In the second biddie game, the Springfield Rifles take the Brooklyn Bridge 31 - 24.  Trevon Charles is the Rifle point guard and defensive catalyst with Unique Stone playing well inside.  7/30/00   In the second game Darren Duncan hit a trey with 25 seconds left to give North Babylon the victory.  Unique Stowe led all scorers with 15 points and to quote Pete Edwards, 'Nique is doing it all, scoring, rebounds and defense.'   3/7/03 GB # 52.

Keith Strickland Jr. 5- 8 guard, Pine Point Intermediate, NJ..HS # 7 in southern Jersey. 1/25/00 COACHROB61:  'Please forward to 2003+ Players Page. Lateef Willis 5-8 point guard, Cardinal Hayes, Bronx.  11/03 Lateef is one of two sophs along with 6-4 forward Chris Davis to make the Hayes' varsity. 6/30/03 Deashway@aol.com: 'You might be interested in becoming familiar with a Bronx kid, Lateef Willis, freshman point guard for Cardinal Hayes High School who led them to the CHSAA B 2002-2003 Freshmen Championship. He should be their varsity point guard for 2003-2004 and is currently developing in the UDC and Nike Swoosh Bronx tournaments with the Holy Cross Panthers. Lateef could seriously be ranked as one of the city's best ball handlers, passers, defenders and assist and steals leader at 5' 6". Those who have seen him usually agree that he is "super-quick" (but very poised and makes few mistakes). He was one of only a few kids chosen out of a few hundred by AND1 players (Hot Sauce, AO, 50, etc.) to play with them in the open run at Riverbank last year. He also auditioned recently to be in Malcolm Lee's movie "The Rucker" where he was the only 15 year old competing with the most talented 18 -28 year old players Lee could find.'

7/16/05 Coach Hayden Brown: 'Scotty McRae (6-7 SF) plays for the Rosedale Blazers, I was wondering why he is not in any of your ranking. He has been putting up very good numbers. What is the criteria? Hr  played for Lawrence Woodmere Academy and averaged 13 ppg, 10 rpg to help lead Woodmere to the state federation A" semi-finals.  He is averaging over 18 ppg during the spring and the summer for the Rosedale Blazers and Team Underrated. He averaged 24 ppg at the GymRat Challenge 2005 in Albany and was selected to the all Gymrat Challenge team 16U. He was outstanding at the Eastern Invitational last week and was selected to the All-Star team.. He is getting some Division 1 interest from a few schools which include Marquette University in Wisconsin, Wofford College in SC and the University of Akron in Ohio among others. Surely this athlete should be part of your ranking for the class of 2006.'

9/7/03 Coach Tom Sampogna: 'I was going through your players to watch in the class of 2006. I have a guard from Port Chester HS who needs to be mentioned as one of the best guards in the Hudson Valley region. His name is Melvin "Porky" Calhoun. He is a 5'7 dynamo, who can score, run the show and defend anybody. He was a catalyst of PC last year off the bench as a Soph. and will be among the county leaders in scoring as PC tries to build on there success from last year. He will be an All-County player this year. Porky most recently led his AAU team, the CT Flame 15&U, to a 27 win season and a strong showing at nationals. He also led his 5Star team to the championship this past week by making his mark by scoring and dishing out the rock. He is definetly one of the top 10 players in the HV area and should be recognized with all the best players from West., NYC and NJ. Porky will be attending this years HV Top 100 at SUNY-Purchase as well as the Metro Top 100 at Seton Hall. His team is playing in the West Best Fall Classic. Come see for yourself.'

8/11/03 Kingtalmai: 'Claing Hendrix is not going to Bergen Catholic. He is now going to Teaneck High School and is in the10th grade and will be graduating in class of 2006.'

7/4/03 Metro Hoops: 'Casiem Drummond (Bloomfield Tech/Jersey Cyclones) 6-8 power forward -- Great build... strong rebounder who gets to the free throw line...Handles rock well...Can shoot from 10ft out with consistentcy...if this kid works hard all the time he could be special. Had a great camp lived up to his #2 ranking in the class of 2006 in New Jersey. Made All-Star Team

Terrell Williams 6-7 W/F (Paterson Catholic/Playaz Basketball) 6-foot-7 guard/small forward. Explosive athlete... nice jumper with range... Very long and active... finishes well on the break and off the glass. Will be a High-Major player when it's all done. Made All-Star Team.

Jerrell Williams (Paterson Catholic/Playaz Basketball) ) 6-foot-6 shooting guard/small forward. Explosive athlete... drives hard to the basket...Nice frame... good low post game and can also get to the rim with the dribble from the perimeter. Made All-Star Team

7/3/03 Hoop Scoop top 10 in NYC from Ron Naclerio: '1 Curtis Kelly 6'9 Rice, 2 Milan Prodonovic 6'1 Archbishop Molloy, 3 Quinton Redfern 6'2 St. Raymond,  4 Stephen Woods 6'1 McClancy, 5 Larry Davis 6'1 Christ the King, 6 Kashif Pratt 6'2 Rice, 7 Devon Epps 6'2 St. Raymond's, 8 Malcolm Grant 6'0 Robeson, 9 Anthony Stukes 6'1 Banneker, 10 Rob Hampton 6'2 Christ the King.'

6/25/03 Coach Tyrone Hester: 'Class of 2006 -- Amini Hassadullah born on 10-5-88 in Kandahar Afghanistan. One of the top players in the city avg.20 on j.v basketball team on Jamaica H.S. He Is hoping to be the first Afghan basketball player in the NBA.'

Jersey City Boy's Club Star Keith Williams is going to St. Anthony High School in Jersey City. He's only 5'4 but has deadly perimeter game. Tough passer. Should definitley be on your list.'

4/13/03 Jts423: 'Of the 25 notable freshmen boys you have on the web site, I will give you school of three boys. Brian Mahon attends Catheral Prep in Queens, John Sanchez attends Xavier in Manhattan, Greg Mandese attends Cathedral Prep, Queens.'

He is only a freshmen! Come on show him a little recognition. He is being coached by Tony Campbell. True - the kid is good!'

3/7/03 JSHUTTLESWURTH: 'Two kids who are going to be extremely good from Jersey in 2006 both attend Bergen Catholic. I believe you should put on your list. They  are Nick Vier PG ( Mike Nardi clone) and Joshua Hewlett ( plays like Sean and is already 6'5). Another kid from Paramus Catholic Luis Guzman is very good will be named north Jersey frosh of the year in the Bergen Record.'

3/5/03 Hoops Scoop from this region lists # 1 Derrick Caracter, # 8 Jon Mitchell, # 15 Curtis Kelley,  # 50 Terrell Williams,  # 60 Jerrell Williams, # 66 Eddie Castellenos,  # 83 Quarrann Calhoun,  # 99 Christian Thompson,  # 114 Casiem Drummond,  # 116 Kashif Pratt and # 134 Josh Frazier.

3/3/03 John P Miciotta: 'Please add these names to this class. There could be more coming but here are three off the top of my head:

Brian McKenzie 6'1" Xaverian He has a quick and long first step, puts the ball on the floor with good confidence. Good elevation on the jumpshot, good extension on the drive. Has terrific potential. Of course, results depend on how hard he works.

Xavier Gibbs 6'3" CK He's a kid who struggled at times knowing where he's supposed to be because of limited playing experience. But quickness, running ability and long arms mean there's potential there. And I suspect overall the CK coaching staff was happy with his progress. His biggest improvement this year came simply from being able to catch the ball better which made him a presence at the frosh level as a rebounder. He also was able to block some shots at that level. It'll be interesting to see what his future holds.

Corey Gibbs 6'5" Grady Corey was on Grady's varsity this year. He started a couple of the games I saw but did not play much in most of them. He has great size, a wide body and decent hands. At about 250 he's very light on his feet although he has trouble getting up and down the floor. His size is a mixed blessing, because it is a great God given tool but it gives him lots of work to do to develop it. He has to improve his conditioning and strength to get better.

Glen Riesberg 6'2" Xaverian He progressed slowly when illness set him back early in the year. His play improved slowly but steadily as the year moved along. He has a good nose for the ball, good hands and a knack for finishing around the hoop. Right now his game is all inside though, he needs to work on his perimeter game.'

2/27/03 Jack Martin: 'Key Freshman CHSAA --  Sean Crawford from Holy Cross is definitely if not the best guard in the city he's is definitely among the best. He turned around the season of his Holy Cross freshman team in a matter of days. Lawrence Jolicoeur could be one of the premiere big men in his class, but his inconsistant play has to be a concern for any coach. Hickman Simmons though he has to work on his attitude is a great passing big man and a definite scorer. He's a little overweight and has to work on that over the off season. Steven "Sticks" Wood has surprised me with his amazing scoring and shot blocking ability. He's definitely a player to watch. CTK has put together one of the great one, two punches (that they always seem to have) in the game. Rob Hampton and Larry Davis are both scorers and call fill it up from anywhere. Rob's a better on the ball defender but Larry is a great shot blocker and has a knack for being in the right place at the right time for a block or a steal. They also complemented by a pretty good point guard in Darren Duncan. As usual Rice has a couple of Gaucho players who have become great high school basketball players. Kashif Pratt and Edgar Sosa have came on and become great players. Kash has shown improved passing skills from what we saw of him in AAU ball. And Edgar, no longer just a shooter, has become a prime time scoror in this league. Trevon Charles isn't that bad ether =). One freshman out at Loughlin doesn't even play for the Frosh basketball team but still is a key contributer to his JV team. Wesner Fredrique is a scoring point guard from Riverside and boy can he shoot the ball. Milan Prodonovic is a offensive player, and a great one, period. This summary is basically of the freshman teams. Players like Wesner Fredrique, Curtis Kelley (a great talented big man) and Mohamed Lo (another talented big man from McClancy) and others aren't being highlighted in this. These are just the teams that I've seen while following the Freshman ranks of the CHSAA.

P.S.-In the beginning of the school year I said that I thought Maurice Williams from Holy Cross woudl make noise in the league. Well, he had a terrible year and hopefully he can get off to a better start next year under JV coach and his summer AAU coach Lloyd Desvigne.'

2/25/03 Inquirer: Bright future awaits Haddonfield High's Brian Zoubek, a 6-foot-9, 230-pound freshman center.

5/25/02 Hoop Scoop has 50 eighth graders (class of 2006) ranked nationally on their pay site - 6 of them from our region. 1. Derrick Character 6'7 2006 C Scotch Plains, NJ, 8. Curtis Kelley 6'8 2006 PF Bronx (Riversdale Junior High) NY, 21. Josh Frazier 6'6 2006 PF Westbury (Middle School) NY, 36. Lance Furtado 6'3 2006 WF Westbury (Middle School) NY, 43. Rob Hampton 6'2 2006 WF South Jamaica (Gateway School) NY, 48. Jabari Hennley 6'4 2006 WF Brooklyn, NY.

12/01 Qb2hollywood: 'I know you said that that your 2006 player rankings should be taken very lightly, but if your going to do something then do it right. I know a group of kids from queens that if on one team could probably crush all the players you have on your list combined. At I.S. 204 alone there are three deserving players that have gone up against the best (their age or older) and usually come out on top. I'll start with Keisuan Haynes, a 5'2" combo guard with a jumpshot too acurate for him to only be 13 years old. The kid has a deep range and an array of scoring moves that you usally don't see until college. Then you have Tyrone Rooney, a 5'7" 1, 2 and 3. He has hops out of the gym and he can play for real. He is crazy quick and has excellent courtvision. Last but not least there's Tony Dennison.. This kid can do anything you ask of him. He's a 5'9 1/2" lanky guard/forward that can really score. He is also an excellent defender that is often forced to guard taller players. He has incredible athletic ability that makes him hard to stop. If you really want to impress your readers then you gotta rank players that are not on any big AAU teams.'

12/25/00: This is the first cut at the class of 2006.  It was compiled by referencing Gameball and  Hoop Scoop and by watching play at IS8,  UDC, Gauchos and Citywide. The players are mostly New York City kids, who play for the Church,  Brooklyn USA,  JYO or the Gauchos.  The more than eighty people (half of them, coaches) on this site's mailing list had a chance to contribute but many won't rank players on principle.  Ultimately, the final decision was mine, the site's programmer and basketball fan.  I am not a scout, and I am not a talent evaluator.  This listing should be taken very, very lightly. These players are children, only one is taller than 6-0, one is not yet 5-0.  Most will grow another six inches plus. Listing them here is primarily a reason to profile currently prominent players from this class in one place on this site.  I apologize to all those who should be on this list, but are not, due to my ignorance.  For comments and suggestions please email nycnjhoops@aol.com.
