Vinny Marchiano 6'3 F- Excellent rebounder on both ends. A fine athlete with a huge upside that is already dunking the basketball. Probably the most talented player we have had enter our program in the last 6 years. One of the hardest workers in the program even as an incoming 9th grader. Plays his AAU ball with the rising Brooklyn Patriots program.

Bobby Beldo 6'1 G- Versatile guard out of Coney Island. Can score, defend, or set up teammates. Has played exceptionally well this summer in many tournaments. Was recently mentioned prominently in NYC Sporting News for his fine play at West 4th Street Middle School Madness Championships. Should be a special player in our program.'

8/6/06 Stephen Evers: 'I will be attending St. Francis Prep High School in the fall. I have seen the updated post for the Class of 2010 and I've seen some of the names up there and I know I deserve to be up there. I know that I am better than some of the names up there and deserve to be ranked. I have played for my junior high school team, CYO basketball team, AAU basketball team at Island Garden and I am a member of the New York Orangemen. I am a point guard who can play the 2 and the 3. I know I should be ranked.'

7/29/06 Coach James Stephonson: 'I had the opportunity of having the twin towers 6-5 Roland Brown and 6-2 Kendell Craigg. Both led the team to the semi-finals. We had some role player like Dwayne Irving, Micheal Roasemond, Malcom Covington and Jason "J-Brid" Wright. Our two main players were no doubt the tallest. Roland Brown and Kendell Craigg both average at least 15 points a game. Roland will attend Christ the King and Kendell will attend Cardozo and play 4 years varsity basketball.'

7/11/06 Coach Timal, GSA Eagles: 'Watch out for these players in the class of 2010. These boys have been playing together for five years. This year, they compiled a 30-0. record and a league title. Leonard Auguste, 6'4"/C, long wingspan and soft hands, headed to St. Benedict's Prep. Asaad Bell, 5'6"/G, combination of speed, great leaping ability and the heart of a lion, will join Aaron Gowans at Bloomfield Tech. Bell & Gowans have already participated with the varsity in the HBC tourney this spring. Hector Swain, 6ft/G, devastating on the perimeter and from inside, dynamite ball handler and top-rate passer, will be suiting-up for St. Anthony's this fall. Swain currently plays in the JC Recreation summer league with the Friars. Note: Cheyenne Ford is in the class of 2011'

7/1/06 Coach Tut, NYC Panthers: 'Watch out for this kid, Orlandy Charleston. He will be attending St .Francis Prep. He's 5'6 and quick like the flash because he plays soccer. Nice kid and pleasure to coach.'

David Watson: 'David Watson, 5'6" will be attending Scotch Plains Fanwood HS, NJ.'

Thay Brown: '
I'm 6'1 and I go to Frederick Douglass Academy in Harlem, NY. I'm 14 years old and I play for Milbank. I average about 18 points 12 rebounds and about 3 to 4 blocks a game for Milbank. I just wanted to know if you could add me to your ranking because I'm a very good player and I deserve to be ranked. My most memorable moment of my 8th grade season is when I hit the game winning shot to beat St. Charles.'

Doran Nelson: 'I'm a very good basketball player, 5'10 and will be attending Scotch Plains Fanwood.'

Jahleel Felix is a 5'9 combo guard who will attend Holy Cross in the Fall. (Came from St. Mary Nativity) Strong, and very aggressive, needs to work on defensive, but has promising potential.

Jaime Fogor-
5'7 PG. Will attend Cardozo  in the Fall (Came from IS.231 in Queens) Quick and effective ball handling. Scores well in transition.

6/29/06 Shane Southwell: 'Mohammed Lee plays for the New York Gauchos and will attend All Hallows in the fall. He is the most underrated player in the state of New York. He is a 20 points and 15 rebounds a game player, who is only 6' 0 and is a very good on ball defender. His best skill on the court is his heart. It doesn't matter how tall or how big the opponent in front of him is, he is going to attack the basket hard with no fear.'

Coach Roy Cardwood: 'Krystian Foriest, 6'4 ( St. Ray's ) Selected to Right Bounce, Elmcor 8th grade all star game and I.S.8 2006 14&U M.V.P also ranked # 5 in NYC and # 32 nationally.'

Shawn McCray: 'Aaron Gowans will be attending Bloomfield Tech. Two of the top 8th grader's in Newark 5'5 Fuquan Knight and 5'10 Johnathon Williams will attend Newark Central in the fall.

Mario Beras, Frederick Douglass Academy: 'Jeffery Petway is a 5'8 combo guard who scores and passes very well. He can create off the dribble. He will be playing with Gauchos B this summer. Victor Sherrif a 5'5 point guard who can shoot the lights out and is very create with his dribble.
Adam Turay a 6'0 guard/ wing who can dribble and pass very well. He is excellent in setting up teammates off the dribble. He can also score at will and has deep range on his jumper. He has a 90 average in school and should be playing with New Heights or Unique this summer.'

Matt Saffold: 'Aaron Gowans is going to Bloomfield Tech and Travis Price is going to either St. Patrick or Linden.'

Coach Ruotolo: 'Four players missing from the Class of 2010. Bryan Caffrey, Marlon Sims, Vincent Guerra and Ben Tockarshewsky all play on various AAU teams and will be attending St. Francis Prep in the fall.'

Coach Bruce Harris Elmcor, NY Panthers: You left off 6-6 Allison Reynolds 14 under NY Panthers and played in the Elmcor 2006 8th grade all star game hosted by Nate Blue. Allison is going to McClancy.

Patrick Grady, Brooklyn Patriots: 'I would like to congratulate Justin Exum of our 14u team for being invited to participate UCLA’s Sports Camp in Los Angles, California this week. Justin will be attending Xaverian high School in September.'

Louis Xifaris, assistant coach McClancy: 'Brandon Rivera - 6'3" incoming freshman.

Please update your 2009 list with Anthoni Brown. Anthoni was a freshman this past year at McClancy who is going to possibly be better than "Sticks." He had a great camp at the the Phenom 150 Adidas Camp in California that he was invited to last week. '

Coach Mike Theordore Francis, Team Underrated:  'The most underrated 8 grade prospect Bryant Frederick is headed to Rice this fall so forget all that talk about Bishop Loughlin. No, he is headed to Rice along with Deshawn Wiggins and Dytrel Bracey. Bryant is a strong combo guard who can shoot better then most two guards and penetrate better then most point guards. Whoever doubts Rice freshmen this year, trust me, don't bet no money that they wont take home a chip with Bryant Frederick leading the pack.'

6/25/06 Abdu-Allah Torrance: 'Devin McMillian- Bishop Loughlin, Antoine Hackman 5'9- Thurgood  Marshall, Dytrel Bracey 6'1- Rice HS, Rick Cumberbatch- Thomas Jefferson, Steven Whittingham -St Ray's, Deshawn Wiggins - Rice. Tavon Sledge is in the class of 2011.'

Patrick Grady: 'Ta’von Sledge, Davontay Grace are 7th graders currently. Last I heard Cumberbatch was going to Bishop Ford, Matt Hall, Justyn McMichael & Naquan Ellerbe are also going to Bishop Ford. Vincent Marchiano - St. Edmonds, Jabari Benford – Adelphi Academy, Bobby Gallagher – Xavier, Justin Exum – Xaverian, Joe Scali - Xavier. The Anthoni Brown you have listed is already a freshman @ McClancy.'

Coach Roy Cardwood: 'Armani Cardwood, 6'2 combo guard Xaverian. Selected to Right Bounce for the past two years and also to the Elmcor 8th grade all star game hosted by Nate Blue.'

Coach Sly Johnson, Manhasset All Stars: 'Please add Kyle Lane 5'7" PG (headed to St. Dominic) to the class of 2010. You will be hearing a lot about him in the future.'

Coach Griggs: 'There is a great 8th grade basketball player in Piscataway New Jersey who will be attending Piscataway in the fall as a 9th grader. Malcolm Griggs is a 6'0 guard who plays with passion on both sides of the ball, he has a good basketball IQ and will play up on the varsity team. He formerly played with Team NJ Elite, but know is getting ready for the fall session. You will hear about this kid in the future. He will be playing in the Unique Extreme Elite Camp in July at Basketball City if anyone wants to take a look see. Trust me you won't be disappointed.

Craig Persiani, coach at Middle School 135: '6' 5" Devon Collier is going to All Hallows.'

Joel Shapiro MS 113/New Heights 14 & Under Coach: 'Two players who are not on the list are Devon Collier and Scotty Arias. Both players play for New Heights 14's team which is getting ready for Division One Nationals (placed 18th out of 160 last year). Devon led his school team MS 135 to the Bronx public school championship along with league MVP honors. At 6'6 he has been destroying everyone in front of him on AAU circuit this spring. He will be attending All Hallows in the fall. Scotty is a gifted scorer and all around great player. He is a leader on and off the floor. Scotty is 5'11 and will be attending Rice next year. Both of these players are a pleasure to coach and have bright futures ahead.'

John P Miciotta: 'Devon Collier -- I think he is from MS 135 in the Bronx. What I am certain of is that he's a terrific prospect. He's a kid with really good size who plays comfortably facing the basket. He's also by all accounts a very good kid. It's worth noting that he will be part of a very strong freshmen class at All Hallows this fall. If everything goes smoothly he will be joined by fellow 6'5" forward Josh Gener and guard Shane Southwell, both of whom will be outstanding freshmen for the Gaels.'

Troy Long, assistant coach, Newark East Side: 'Alja’quan “Quay” Mann, 6’1” G/F Newark East Side, Tyre Lockhart, 6’3” F Newark East Side. David Harris, 6'2" jumping jack, should be going to St. Ant's in JC. He plays for the Westchester Hawks.'

Matt Saffold: 'I'm from Hillside, NJ and going to St. Mary of the Assumption in Elizabeth. I'm 6 foot and my friends Jowan Odige 6'4 and Darius Monroe 6'1 are going too. They are two highly talented forwards and I'm a left handed 1 & 2 guard.'

Jeff Rivera: 'Ashton Pankey is enrolled to attend Molloy in the fall.'

Frank Harris: 'I am the Athletic Director at New Heights and we have a major player you missed in your class of 2010. Hakeem Harris is a rising 9th grader who will be attending Blair Academy this fall. He currently plays on our 17u team, and is a big-time prospect. He is a 6'1, 180 pound guard who dominates on both ends of the court, and has a bright future ahead of him! Tyler McNeely is also attending Blair as a freshman this fall.'

Eddy Toussaint: 'Lenny Toussaint will be attending Moore Catholic High School as a 9th grader next year.'

5/18/06 NY Hoops Class of 2010.

6/17/05 This alphabetical listing of 16 of the top class of 2010 players was compiled by referencing Hoop Scoop and by watching play at IS8, UDC, Gauchos and ProStyle.  John P Miciotta and others on this site contributed to the profiles and player evaluations, but we won't rank the players this class until after their freshman year. These children are mostly New York City kids, who play for the Church, the Gauchos, Team Next, 80 Park or other prominent AAU clubs. This listing should be taken very, very lightly. These players are children, most will grow another six inches plus. Listing them here is primarily a reason to profile currently prominent players from this class in one place on this site.  If you're not on this list but should be, count yourself lucky; keep practicing and studying. For comments and suggestions please email nycnjhoops@aol.com.

Jabriel Blue 5-5,  Kevin Boyle 5'2, Aaron Brown, Trevor Clemmings 6'5, Davontay Grace 5-9, Tobias Harris 6-0, Joey Imugal 5'8, Javon Pinkston 6'4, D'Marcus Owens 5'2, Ta'von Sledge 5'2

Kevin Boyle 5'2 Elizabeth, NJ. 2/05 Hoop Scoop # 88 nationally.

Aaron Brown, NJ. 11/27/04 Metro Hoops: Battle of The Bridge Recap - 7th and 8th Grade. 'Before the game Brown was involved a little confusion about which squad to play for. Lucky for Jersey he suited up for the Garden State. Brown put NJ on his back in the first half. He has a great nose for the ball and loves to score on the break. Aaron also proved he had a stroke beyond the arc.'

Trevor Clemmings 6'5 center Teaneck, NJ 2/05 Hoop Scoop # 107 nationally.

Tobias Harris 6-0,  Unique All Stars, NYC.  6/17/05 Metro Hoops Jr. All-star Camp Recap: 'Harris seems to improve each time I see him. He has a sweet stroke and a high basketball IQ. Tobias was very aggressive on offense and ran the floor like a gazelle. I have never seen Harris as aggressive as he was in the All-star Game. He looked for his shot often and attacked the basket without hesitation. Tobias should max out to be about 6’7, if so he will be a problem.'

Joey Imugal 5'8 guard Teaneck, NJ. 2/05 Hoop Scoop # 44 nationally.

Javon Pinkston 6'4 forward Brooklyn, NY. 2/05 Hoop Scoop # 20 nationally. 1/19/05 Metro Hoops: 'The tri-state area needs to beware, this kid has size, skill and a soft touch to go along with great footwork. The scary part is he just turned 13, Pinkston is the closest thing to Derrick Caracter since DC himself. '

D'Marcus Owens 5'2 guard Neptune, NJ.  2/05 Hoop Scoop # 183 nationally.

Shane Southwell 5'6 Manhattan NY St. Charles  8/16/04 Shane, Doron Lamb and point guard Malik Atkins were the three top biddy Gauchos who made it to the UDC championship before losing to Team Roc and their MVP, Deshaun Wiggins3/03 Shane is playing and starring for the Gauchos Super Biddy team at Pro Style this winter.

Anthony Taylor 5'5, NJ.  12/6/03 Hoop Scoop for Philadelphia/South Jersey/Eastern Pennsylvania: # 1 Anthony Taylor 5'5, PG Pleasantville, NJ. 8/5/03 Coach Rob Anderson: 'My eye has yet to be wrong! In 96, it was Dajaun Wagner from Camden, who now plays for the Cleveland Cav's. In 97, it was it was Ralph " Pete " Hunter from Atlantic City, NJ, now in his 2nd year with the Dallas Cowboys. In 98, it was Andre Callender, New Jersey's# 1. running back, 2003, Seton Hall Prep now at Boston College. In 99, it was Duran Neill, from Pleasantville, NJ, class of 2007. In 02, it was Myron Rolle, 6'4" 198 pound defensive back, with 4.4 speed who attends the Peddie School by way of Galloway, NJ, class of 2006. As a freshman, he attended 2 Major Division I football camps whose teams are ranked among the top 10 programs in college football. At the camps end, Myron was told by both schools' head coaches, that a scholarship offer would be waiting upon the completion of his senior year. Now in 2003, it's Anthony Taylor, a 5' 6" 90 pound combo guard, from Pleasantville, NJ. Anthony will be a 6th grader in September, and is the most dominate player of his peer group in Southern New Jersey. The peer group range covers Atlantic, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland & Burlington counties. If this young player continues to develop in the same manner, he will be a 2000+ point high school player.'

Steve Whittingham 5'9 PG  NY 5/05 Steve runs the show for Coach Paul Suber's loaded 13 under Team Next squad which includes Javon Pinkston, Davontay Grace, Doron Lamb and Deshaun Wiggins.  1/5/05 Hoop Scoop Ranking of the nation's top 225 7th graders includes # 3. Steve Whittingham 5'9 guard New York. 11/27/04 Metro Hoops: Battle of The Bridge Recap - 7th and 8th Grade. 'The NY coach predicted that Whittingham would steal the show and he was on point. The southpaw scorched NJ by bombing three’s and carrying defenders to the rack with his strength. His job is simply to drop buckets and he’s great at it finishing with 24 points. If he develops his handle, look for his game to reach new heights.'

Deshaun Wiggins 5'11 forward Team Roc, NYC. 8/15/04 Team Roc got hot in the playoffs beating undefeated Next Generation yesterday in the semis and the favored 'chos today in the championship. The Gauchos led 28-23 at the half but it was tied at 32 after three before Roc cruised to the final 14 point margin. Roc MVP Deshaun Wiggins had a team high 17.  8/14/04 In the first UDC biddy game this morning Team Roc's star players, Deshaun Wiggins and point guard Shaquille Stokes got their team off to a 16-10 first quarter lead over undefeated Next Generation before each got their third foul midway through the second quarter. At the half it was tied at 22 but the Roc stars returned for a 7 point third quarter lead and hung on for a 48-46 win. Deshaun finished with a game high 23

6/15/04 Coach Paul Suber: 'Team Next Invitational Basketball Tournament:  Team Roc had 1 double figure scorer Deshaun (Day-Day) Wiggins with 11 pts.  4/28/04 Coach Steve Harris, Team Roc: 'Over the weekend our 6th grade AAU team took the Spring Classic at Basketball City by defeating the New Heights Warriors in the 12 & under division. The tournament was a good AAU warm up which was played in pool format with the best team in their pool advancing to the play off. The following players represent La Familia for AAU: Deshaun Wiggins (MVP for the Spring Classic),

12/11/04 Metro Hoops: 'Fatai Williams 7th Grade ( Jersey City Boys Club)- Fatai is 5’10 but his long arms gives him a 6’2 appearance. This kid reminds me of Theo Ratliff. He rebounds, block shots and runs the floor. Williams, though a little raw, has a great touch and feel for the game.

Josiah Williams 6'1 forward Jackson, NJ. 2/05 Hoop Scoop # 69 nationally.

4 Dashawn Wiggins, # 5 Corey Edwards, # 6 Tobias Harris, # 7 Kahiem Hall, # 8 Dereck Brand, # 9 Reynaldo Walters and # 10 Anthony Givens.

6/14/05 Metro Hoops Junior All Star Camp recap for 7th graders includes Jayvaughn Pinkston (Team Next),  Dondre Whitmore (Jersey Heat), Tobias Harris (Unique Allstars), Dashawn Wiggins (Team Next), Devon Thomas (Trenton Hurricanes), Jason Rosenberg (Team NJ Elite), Davontay Grace (Team Next), Aaron Gowans (Team NJ Elite), Steven Smith (Trenton Hurricanes), Marquise Tucker (Jersey Heat), Aaron Brown (Team Next), Harold Spears (Jersey Heat), Chase Plummer (MSU Skyliners) and  Anthony Givens (Team Next).

3/14/05 Rio Pitt: 'This young man here is not Chad Marshall. This is Ishaq Pitt, my brother. He wore a spare jersey that game which probably led to the name mix up and family ties mislead. Please if possible can this name for Ishaq be corrected as requested by his family.'

3/12/05 Ishaq Pitt (pictured) is the Aneesa Sports' Midget 13 wing and the younger step-brother of OSNA's 6-7 Rio Pitt. When the Gauchos were late for their ProStyle game this morning, Chad was awarded 14 free throws to begin the game. He hit 12 and never looked back, bagging 19 of 22 free throws, three treys and a game high 32 points. Unfortunately for Aneesa, the 'chos twin towers of 6-3 Kevin Parrom (27) and 6-3 Tevin Baskins (24) took advantage of their height on Chad and teammate Lamont Hinton (11) to win going away 77-55. More weekend scores later on the Pro Style 2K 5 Winter League basketball page.

2/22/05 Metro Hoops: 'The Jersey Shore Fliers needed overtime to get by Jersey Heat 45-44. Quintin Davis led the way the champs with 16 points while Matthew Quammie chipped in 8. Markese Tucker scored 8 points for the Heat in the loss. Davis took over the game down the stretch by driving to the hole for easy buckets. The big guard was quick and fearless when his team needed him the most. He would definitely get my MVP of the division. Matthew Quammie -- The athletic forward caused havoc on the blocks by blocking shots and rebounding. Matthew ran the floor and used his long wingspan to score when required. Markese Tucker -- I love young big men with good post moves and Tucker falls into this category. Markese has size combined with quickness and a soft touch. He is an imposing force on the 7th Grade level.'

11/22/04 Terence T-Bone Johnson: 'They came, they saw, they won. The Top 6th, 7th and 8th graders from New York all came to win their games after trailing at the half Sunday at Paterson Catholic. The 7th grade game started out slow with both teams struggling from the field but quickly got a spark from Steve Whittingham. The scoring guard from the city ended up scoring 22 pts in the contest. NJ was led by Aaron Goodwin with 12 pts.'

11/15/04 Terence (tbone) Johnson: 'The Battle for the Bridge is scheduled for this Sunday, November 21st at Paterson Catholic HS in Paterson NJ. 7/5/04 Hoop Scoop top NYC sixth graders are # 1 Davontay Grace 5'10  WF, # 2 Tavon Sledge 5'0  PG,  # 3 Deshawn Williams 5'11  WF, # 4 Steve Whittingham 5'9 2G, # 5 Paul Bilbo 6'4  C, # 6 Patrick Walters 5'9 PF,  # 7 Devon McMillan 5'3 PG,  # 8 Corey Edwards 5'3  PG, # 9 Lenny Touissant 5'10  PF, # 10 Shane Southwell 5-9 PF.  Web note: I'm guessing that Deshawn Williams should be Team Roc's Deshaun Wiggins.

8/16/04 Malik Atkins is not yet five feet tall, he's notably smaller than each of his Gauchos biddy teammates. But he's an offensive and defensive, high energy, point guard dynamo on the court. He was solid for the 'chos in their UDC biddy championship loss to Team Roc.

8/8/04 The Blues brothers, James (pictured left, I think) and Jabriel Blue are the Dyckman biddy twin guards whose team  lost in the UDC. quarterfinals to the Mt Vernon biddy entry. With the regular season now over, J Blue leads all UDC. biddy scorers with a 14.4 ppg. average. That average is helped by their coach who puts two J Blue entries in each scorebook. As often as not either James or Jabriel leads the team in scoring. The twins were also listed on Team Generation's 12 under summer roster for some tournaments.
