Conrad McRae Tournament, 2005

Tournament is for 12-14yrs old junior high school, no high schoolers. Located at Dean Street Park Playground on Bergen Street between Carlton and 6th Avenue in Park Slope, Brooklyn.

9/15/05 Coach Paul Suber: 'This weekend we won the "Conrad McRae Basketball tournament" or as it's sometimes called the Dean Street Championship. The 14& Under Championship game was between Trackmasters ( Team Next 13& Under Team and Durrant Scott) and Coney Island (Lance Stephenson & Darwin "Budda" Ellis). We won 52-49 in a very hard fought and exciting game in front of a jam-packed park. The game featured a great match up between #1 9th grader Lance Stephenson (Coney Island) and #2 9th grader Durrant Scott (Trackmasters). It was a show that displayed great passes, exceellent decision making and super dunks. Unfortunately it was cut short because Lance got injured (ankle twist). He sat out, half a quarter and the momentum shifted Trackmasters' way. Steve Whittingham hit some very important jumpers; Day-Day Wiggins came up with 2 big steals and scores to break a close game open. Cory Edwards ran the show at the point and JayVaughn Pinkston (tournament M.V.P.) was a monster all game on the boards, scoring or blocking shots. I would like to thank Anton Marchand, Cleon Hyde and Kamani Young (tourney directors) for running a very competitive and exciting tournament that was real fun for the kids and adults who watched from the gates. I would also like to thank head coach Fry for letting me be a part of this special summer event. We will be back next year.'
