BooksnBall - This past Saturday's PSAL Basketball Clinic at Cardozo H.S. was a record setting event. Over 200 hundred Varsity & Junior Varsity coaches attended the morning session & heard Hofstra's Tom Pecora give his insights into dealing with today's student-athlete and doing the little things to make your team/program successful. He placed a special emphasis on building relationships with college assistant coaches from Division III, II, & I levels. You never know when an assistant will move on to become a head coach of a college and a high school coach may want to get a worthy player recruited by that school. Treating ALL assistants in a professional manner. (Returning phone calls/questionnaires) is the way to build positive relationships. Coach Pecora extended an invitation for any PSAL coach to call his office and arrange to bring their teams to observe a college practice. 10/4/08 Eric Jaklitsch - Our Savior New American in Centereach, NY is looking to fill out their schedule for the 2008-2009 season. Bruce Bishop - The psal high school bball season is about to start question for all players have you used your summer to train for the winter season or have you just played games. If your answer is just played you have takin the wrong route to a successful season. All players must train and work on there weaknesses playing is ez training and conditioning requires hard work and countless hours in the gym or at your local park. By not preparing you are increasing your injury rate, which can lead to missing part or all of your season. I strongly suggest that if you do not have a trainer you find time in your schedule during the week or weekends to work on your body and your game. For those who do not know the emergency room at the hospitals are flooded with sports related injuries because players fall to prepare themselfs for play. If you do not that is where you will end up going. Why is it that pro players off season train and high school players do not I have been all over the place during the summer watching player after player in terrible condition and very little knowledge of what they are doing on the floor. Players ask your coach or go on the internet to find out, or get help on becoming a complete player through training and working on your fundementals. Also all players and I mean ALL PLAYERS should take a heart stress test to see if you are having any problems with your heart. To many young athletes are dying from unknown heart conditions a total of five high school age players this summer alone have died DURING PLAY, do not agnore this do it get tested it is not a game it is your life. Good luck to all HIT those BOOKS so you can be eligible to play all season and remember FAILING TO PREPARE IS PREPARING TO FAIL. 10/3/08 Billy Council Kips Bay Mustangs

9/29/08 Dwayne Murray - As you surely know, we here in Mt. Vernon has been doing "Save Our Sports" fundraisers to do exactly that. Save high school sports in Mt. Vernon after the school board voted not to fund sports this year. We've been doing pretty well, but the effort remains ongoing as some sports are still not funded. To that end, West Virginia Univ. Head Men's Basketball Coach, Bobby Huggins, will be giving a free clinic at Mt. Vernon HS on Monday, October 6th @ 6:30. Mt. Vernon HS Head Basketball Coach, Bob Cimmino, asked me to ask you guys if you could put this message on your website. I'm pretty sure this will help our coaches in the NYC Metro Area tremendously. During the clinic, we are taking donations for "Save Our Sports", but again, the clinic is FREE. Below is our announcement. "ONE MAN CLINIC, featuring WVU's Bob Huggins" at Mount Vernon High School-- Coach Bob Huggins of West Virginia-- Mon, Oct 6, 6:30 p.m. Admission is free- donations will be accepted to "The Mount Vernon Educational Foundation " to help save our sports program-- all youth league coaches and staffs in addition to high school coaches are welcome. Any questions call Bob Cimmino at 914-665-5300 9/29/08 Ron Naclerio -

DPCC/TEAM UNDERRATED will be conducting tryouts for their 10U and 11U teams on Oct 2nd, 2008. The location will be at the JFK Intermediate School, 101 Lake Avenue, Deer Park, NY. The time will be 6:30 to 8pm. 9/28/08 Dan Waitre - I just wanted to mention Rickey Rivers and the Funsport H.S. Basketball tournament. If you haven’t heard of Rickey by now you are truly not listening. He is a Brooklyn guy and former college guard that has for years run leagues in the city. His adult leagues are among the finest and most competitive around. During the last 3 years he has branched out to fill a gaping hole and now runs the finest J.H.S. league and H.S. league around. The competition is off the charts with the top talent in grades 6-12 on the floor. The players are treated first class with full uniforms, stat sheets, posters, free sport drinks during the game, and more. He has a staff of others also giving up their time to give the kids what I would describe as professional experience. Last season, countless Division 1 prospects played in the league and this season the level of play has grown even more. This is not necessarily a pitch to promote teams to join the tournament because he already has a waiting list of teams to enter. I just wanted to give the league a positive and let them know the kids and coaches appreciate it.

The Cardozo freshman Ta'Jay Henry knocked down 1 of 2 free throws after being fouled on his third consecutive offensive attemp with 5 seconds left. Tre Jordan ,the Campus Magnet HS sophomore, knocked down a 3 pointer to tie it at 50-50 under a minute. Jevon Thomas, OSNA freshman, and Shelton Mickell, the Cardozo HS sophomore led the way with double figures, but it was a great defensive performance by Devon Lynch (Campus Magnet HS, Sophomore), Troy Singleton (Campus Magnet HS, sophomore), Marcell Fulton (Francis Lewis HS, Sophomore) along with the rest of the crew, in coming back from a 13 points deficit, and it was a great offensive performance by the youngsters executing plays in key situations in a consistent manner.
