Spring 1998 Summer 1998 Fall 1998 Spring 1999 Summer 1999 Fall 1999
3/10/00 IS8 weekend schedule: Biddies - Saturday semis @ 9:15 and 10:00. Sunday: championship game @ 10:00 am. Midget semis @ 10:45 & 11:45, Sunday championship @ 11:30. Juniors - Saturday semis: @ 12:45 and 2:00 pm. Sunday championship @ 1:00.
2/27/00 Sunday morning at IS8 - 80 Park takes Our Lady of Angels in the first biddie game and the Gauchos beat Brooklyn USA in the second. The Gaucho midgets are again led by Sundiata Gaines, Russ Robinson and Ronald Roman over Brooklyn USA. They win it 45 - 30 despite being held scoreless in the final quarter.
2/26/00 Saturday morning at IS8 - the second biddie game and the first two midget games are forfeits by Huntington Roadrunners, Rough House and Rise Above to the Riverside Church, JYO and Team Marbury. The first biddie game was a marvel with St. Boniface taking a 32 - 31 victory from the Springfield Rifles. St. Bonifice forward Terrell Johnson was the best player on the court with 12 points in the second half alone. For the Rifles T. Charles and V Stowe almost stole it at the end after trailing 23 - 16 after three quarters.
2/25/00 Ctiny11: 'The Dominic that plays for Team Marbury at IS8 is Dominic Osei, a 6-3 freshmen at Lincoln in Brooklyn.'
2/20/00 Sunday morning at IS8: In the biddie division 80 Park remains undefeated and looks like the team to beat taking Our Lady of Angels 33 - 20. Malik Boothe runs the show and scores 11 points. Wes Fredrique, S Crawford and center, H Simmons all help. As usual OLA's Stephen Wood looks like the best player on the court, scoring 11. In the second biddie game, the Springfield Rifles take the Brooklyn Bridge 31 - 24. T Charles is the Rifle point guard and defensive catalyst with V Stone playing well inside. A Prince is the Brooklyn Bridge point guard scoring 15 points - 10 of 14 from the foul line. Rahki Begun had 7 inside points for the Bridge.
In the first midget game Ajax beat the Skyriders 45 - 42. Osa Omogun, Shahee Martin, Chris M and Rinard F lead the way for Ajax. In the second game Sebastian Telfair leads Team Marbury to an 11 - 0 start and a 35 - 16 halftime lead over Rough House.
2/19/00: Real Scout: 'Elmcor vs Riverside Church (Junior Division 16 under) - If you weren't in the gym then you missed a good game! Riverside's first game of the tourney and they held off a talented Elmcor team 80 - 77 ot. Riverside was trailing until the last two minutes of the 4th. Sensational soph Charlie Villanueva led Elmcor fierce attack with 25pts. Riverside's Alonzo Brown hit big shots to cut the Elmcor lead from 19 pts to 1.
Then freshman sensation Roberto Felipe (20 pts) drove coast to coast for a tough baseline layup over 6-5 Christ the King's Eric Martin. Elmcor was down 3 in the fourth with 9 seconds to go then Felipe (9assist) threw a no look pass to Villanueva (11rebs) who hit a 3pter with 5 seconds remaining. The game went to overtime and then Riverside showed a lot of heart. Elmcor's Mike Claxton fouled out with 18 seconds to go in the 4th quarter.
Riverside' backcourt of Steve Soumme and Alonzo Brown came threw when it counted. The best way to sum up the night was "Elmcor wasn't ready to go to church."
2/13/00 Real Scout: 'Elmcor beat Hunnington and Roberto Felipe had a great game.'
2/13/00 Sunday morning at IS8 is Riverside Church time. They play one biddie and back to back midget games. Only the indomitable Sebastian Telfair and the inside power of Dominic Osei on Team Marbury keep the Church from the trifecta. The Church midget team features AJ Price, Nick Carter and Kevin Winter on the perimeter with 6-4 John Dixon and 6-5 Terrell Biggs inside. (Guard Deshawn Gist is on the roster, but he was a no-show). That group easily took Rise Above in the first midget game 47 - 29. But in the second contest Telfair and Lewis scored 17 and 14 points in a 45 - 39 victory. Team Marbury began the fourth quarter trailing by three, but Sebastian scored eight points in the quarter to ensure the win. S T's probably too old for this bracket, so he may not make it to the playoffs, but he's a pleasure to watch. He's got the complete package, already. He's reasonably well built, lightning quick on the dribble, accurate jumper which he releases a little too low, solid passer and he plays serious defense.
In the Church biddie game Kevin Decker hit 4 of 6 treys and scored 18 points in the 44 - 19 win over Brooklyn Bridge. M Grant, B Wilson, T Nash and Taneisha Naughton also started for the Church, but it was J Braxnt who came off the bench for 8 key points.
In the first biddie game the Gauchos led 20 - 16 at the half before going scoreless in the third quarter. 80 Park wins again, this time 36 32. Park point guard, Malik Boothie ran the 80 Park show with W Fried and S Crawford scoring 10 and 7 points. The Gauchos' center Darryl Crawford led all scorers with 11.
2/12/00 Saturday morning at IS8 - Huntington biddies forfeit first game to Springfield Rifles. In the second biddie game Brooklyn USA and Our Lady of Angels were tied at 18 early in the second half but Brooklyn won by a 44 - 24 score. Clayton Givens is USA's point guard and he continually set up Jason Smith and Jaytoner Wisseh who scored 8 and 12 points respectively. That offset the 17 points scored by the Angels' star, Steven Wood. In the first midget game Ajax was up by two at the beginning of the fourth quarter, then ran away from Elmcor for a 48 - 35 win. Shahee Martin was an Ajax force inside with 14 points while Osa O scored 20, including eight of twelve from the line. The Elmcor big men, Phillip Murphy and Tyshawn Pierria kept it close until the last quarter. In the second midget game Brooklyn USA ambushed the Running Rebels with a 18 - 8 first quarter and a 64 - 36 final. USA has the talent - Eugene Harvey at the point, John Ager on the wings and James Walker with Carlos Collazo inside. The Rebels' point guard Bryan Geffen and their inside duo of Michael Dietz and Vishay Manduhar were never able to get in the game.
2/6/00 Antonio Cannon Sr: 'IS8 corrections - IS8 Biddie game between Brooklyn USA & 80 Park was won by 80 Park, and not Brooklyn USA. Brooklyn USA (White Shirts) 80 Park(Green Shirts).'
2/6/00 Sunday morning at IS8 - Brooklyn USA won first Biddie game against 80 Park with Bklyn coaches promising rosters soon. St. Bonifice Bulldogs took Brooklyn Bridge 40 - 23 in second Biddie game. Bulldog point guard Alan Christophe continually set up inside play for Marcus Johnson, Terrell Johnson, Marlon Romulus and Jordan Simmons. In the first Midget game the Running Rebels easily took the Skyriders 52 - 30. Point guard, Ryan Eisner ran the show and star, Michael Dietz, dominated inside.
2/5/00 Saturday morning at IS8 - both Biddie games are forfeited as Riverside Church and Gauchos pick up the wins. In the first Midget (14 & under) game Team Marbury is led by Sebasian Telfair with 15 points as they defeat JYO 54 - 40. Courtney James, Dante and Freeman each contribute for TM. The JYO roster is mainly JHS 192 kids - Dwayne Johnson at point, Fitz Robertson and seventh grader, Vernon Tiel help keep it close.
2/1/00 Newsday: Inside Hoops - IS8 and George Jefferson.
1/30/00 George Jefferson, sophomore star for Automotive high school, fractured his wrist on Friday night playing for the Elmcor junior team at IS8.
This morning, Huntington biddies were no-shows, forfeiting first game to Brooklyn Bridge. Gaucho biddies pounded Our Lady Dangelus 46 - 26 in second game. O.L.D. twosome of off-guard Marcus Matthew and center Steven Woods played well, but the Gauchos got 14 points each from their two post players, Darryl Crawford and Rashief Pratt. The Riverside Churdh juniors destroyed the Rough House 52 - 24 in the first junior game. The Church trio of A O Price at point, Nick Carter, the game's star, on the wings and Kevin Winter inside controlled the game.
1/29/00 IS8 Jumpman Winter League play began today. Riverside Church took St. Bonifice, LI. 39 - 27 in the Biddie game. In the first Midget game 80 Park won 46 - 39 over Huntington. Sprauve and G Holzon had 14 and 11 for the winners, while S Kelleher and A Redd led Huntington. The Gauchos trounced the Springfiled Rifle 76 - 36 with starters Russ Robinson, Ronald Ramon, Yadda Gaines and Terrell Elliston leading the way.
1/29/00 Peter Edwards, the IS8 league commissioner, has assembled three divisions - 10 teams, 2 sections for biddies (12 and under), 20 teams, 4 sections for the midgets (14 and under) and 14 teams, 2 sections for the juniors (16 and under). Season begins Saturday 1/29/00 and ends 3/5/00.
