7/7/02 Eight of nineteen playoff sessions are now done. These are the results from 6/24 through 7/3.
7/3/02 results -- Grace Community Sports 76, Malverne 54 and K.Y.D.A. 72, J.Y.O. 69. All five GCS starters gao to double digits: L Richburg (20), R Singh (16), C Blake (14), Clifford Bonhomme (12) and J Wright (12). Darrell Wonge and John Sergeant had 19 and 16 for the losers. For K.Y.D.A. Bryant Dunsten (22), Gary Graham (19) and Sean Armstrong (16) scored big while Cameron Tyler and Nick Flagg led JYO with 31 and 21.
7/2/02 results -- Westchester Hawks 80, F.T.G.N. 53 and in overtime Runnin' Hustlers 103, Running Rebels 95. The Hawks had three double digit scorers in A Camaulito (27), C Morley (20) and Chris Daisparra (17) and they outdid the F.T.G.N. trio of Paul Cline (18), Shaun Terry (11) and Milan Prodonovic (11). The night's second game went to overtime when the Hustlers Richard Fortes (25), Dereck Williams (18) Kevin Paradise (17), Gerald Shaw (16) and Daeshawn Johnson (13) prevailed over an amazing 43 point effort from the Rebels' Bryan Geffin. Unfortunately for the Rebels 19 and 15 from Vinny Falzone and Danny Rodriguez left them short in overtime.
7/1/02 results -- Rock Steady 88, 1st Presbyterian 87. Only one game on this Monday but a classic as Ticky (24), Aaron (19), Kaimandre Owes (17), Tarrell (14) and Barry (11) while the 1st Pres trio of Darnell Cumming (24), Jener Harrison (24) and Elwell Dove (13) fell one point short.
6/28/02 results -- Brooklyn Rams 56, Pythons 48 and the Knights 74, Malverne 44. The Rams threesome of Trevor Breland (18), Akeem Tucker (13) and Vernon Goodridge (9) outlasted the Python quartet of Jason Pauline (12), Fitz Robertson (10), Ryan Leak (8) and Mohammed Anishashuri (7) in the evening's first game. In the nightcap the Knights bopped Malverne behind five double digit scorers: Andre Davis (15), Brian Gayle (14), Joe Vines (13), Gary Hawkins (12) and Ramose Modesto (10). Darrell Wonge and Mike Kelley each had 15 for the losers.
6/27/02 results -- JYO 89, Pro-bound 64 and Rock Steady 82, Barrier Breaker 42. Cliffy Clinkscales came back to his old haunts at IS8 to lead JYO with 21 points and he got ample help from Cameron Tyler (14), Nick Flagg (11), Marcus Cox (8), Terrell McKenzie (7) and Sky Khaleel (7). Pro-bound's Tyriek Good (17), Herb Allen (13), Weyinmi Efejuku (8) and Steve Brevitt (8) were unable to keep the game close. Speaking of not keeping the game close, Rock Steady almost doubled Barrier Breaker as their trio of Ticky (34), Aaron (24) and Willie (12) dominated. (Hopefully their coach will fill in the last names for their next game.) For BB Tyshaun Jones and Darrell Young each had 10 while Same Duncan scored 8.
6/26/02 results -- Running Rebels 75, For the Good of the Neighborhood (Wolfpack) 62. There were four double digit scorers for RR as Danny Rodriguez and Brian Geffin each had 21 while Ryan Eisner and Vinny Falzone had 13 and 11 respectively. F.T.G.N. played without Paul Cline and even a game high 25 from Joakim Noah, and 12, 10 and 8 from Daniel Gumb, Milan Prodonovic and Joseph Macker were not quite enough for the Wolfpack.
6/25/02 results -- Grace Community Sports 53, Knights 48 and Brooklyn Rams 93, Malverne 36. The Holy Cross Knights played without Andre Davis and Rich Belot, Joe Vines had a tough game with only 2 points and Ramose Modesto (12), Gary Hawkins (11) and Joe Conner (8) couldn't overcome the Grace duo of L Richburg (22) and R. Singh (14). In the second game the Rams butted Malverne as six players - Akeem Tucker (23), Angelo Whitehead (20), Trevor Breland (15), Brandon Anderson (11), Jared Ramel (9) and Ewand Williams - each contributed to the rour.
6/24/02 results -- The Rifles 61, 1st Presbyterian 44 and the Long Island panthers 68, Keep Your Dream Alive 59. Fred (15), Colson (12), Poppy (12) and Mosby (9) led the Rifles over 1st Presbyterian as only Darnell Rhymes got to double digits with 12. In the night's second game the Panthers took Keep Your Dreams Alive (K.Y.D.A.) 68 - 59. Antonio Pena (18), Danny Green (12) and Kevin Spann (8) led the Panthers despite a 23 point game high performance from K.Y.D.A.'s Gary Grisham.
7/5/02 COACHRDJ: 'There are a few players at St Johns Prep worthy of being watched in the near future. They are among the class of 2004 and are currently the Junior Varsity City Champs. This group is being led by their 5'9" Point Guard Serge Clement who has a nice outside shot and their big man 6'6" Center Bryant Dunston, the other bright spot is swingman (sharpshooter) 6'2" Gary Graham. You can catch these players in I.S. 8 Summer League on team called Keep Your Dreams Alive.'
