IS8 Nike Summer League, 2003 Spring 1998 Summer 1998 Fall 1998 Spring 1999 Summer 1999 Fall 1999 Winter Y2K Spring Y2K Summer Y2K Fall Y2K Winter 2001 Spring 2001 Summer 2001 Fall 2001 Winter 2002 Spring 2002 Summer 2002 Fall 2002 Winter 2003 IS8 -- address is 108-35 167 th St. Jamaica, Queens just off Merrick Blvd on 167 St and 108th Avenue. 8/11/03 Coach Lloyd Desvigne: 'Holy Cross Knights 81- Long Island Panthers 78. Deja vu again as Sundiata Gaines drained a 30 foot, three point shot, with 3 seconds left to give the Knights the Summer Championship. First respects, go to Pete Edwards and the IS8 crew for maintaining the quality of the tournament. Pete changed the game to Sunday help both teams be at full strength and then he had to delay the start to get the proper officials. Officials Mike Bennett and Jerome Skrine called a great game in a contest with the play by play of a heavy weight title fight. The Panthers jumped out to a 29 - 18 after 1st quarter. With the fine play and passing of Dwayne Johnson (at least 10 assists) and scoring of Kahiem Seawright (16 pts) the lead reached 14 points with less than 6 minutes before half time. The Knights stormed back with full court pressure and lead 44 -41 at the half. The next five and half minutes it was all Knights. Mike Johnson (11 pts and 12 steals), Calvin Rhoden (17pts) and Marvin Roberts (13 pts) ran the lead up to 20 points before Coach Billy Turnage got the Panthers rolling. Billy shuffled his line up and went small as the Panthers cut the lead to 9 points at the end of three quarters. The first five minutes of the 4th it was almost all Panthers. Antonio Pena (12 pts) and Vic Morris (21 pts and Sportsmanship award) lead the surge as the Panthers lead by 1 at the 3 minute mark. Both teams traded several possessions and the score stayed 70 - 69 Panthers. The Knights Akeem Gooding (21 points, 11 rebounds and Tourney MVP) led a 8 - 0 run to push the Knights up 77-70 at the 2 minute mark. But, back came the Panthers. At the 12 second mark, Malcom Grant (10 pts), in traffic, drained a game tying three and set-up the Sundiata Gaines saga. Play continued after Grants' heroics and the Knights gave the ball to Gaines and he repeated his "IS8" game winning sharp shooting as Pete Edwards counted down the final seconds. This was also Knights' Terron Stowe ( aka: really big, big Burga, not from Lefrak) farewell game at IS8. Terron will be attending and finishing high school in Wisconsin.' 7/3/03 Pete Edwards: 'East 1. Panthers 2. NYC Finest 3. Running Rebels 4. Nike 1 North 5.. Wide World Ent. 6. Holy Cross 7.
