8/15/99 The Dalai Lama is in Central Park, but the IS8 championship round is in Jamaica. The Manhasset All Stars won the Biddie division against the Rifles 51 - 50. With a second to go Trevone Hughes (Gamegall #19) of the Rifles had two foul shots. He made them both but the ref called a lane violation (!) on the second shot. The Rifles Hughes, Ray Arnold and Jarrett Petty are a great trio, Manhassett has the depth. Any of their super six - Tyson Johnson, Joey Amelio, Keith Turcios, Jonathan Fountain, Raymell Rice and Ricardo(?) could start for the Rifles, as could no-show Kevin Dooley. The All Stars have a busy Sunday; they play the Staten Island Lightning tonight at MSG before the Liberty game.
8/7/99 Biddies play at IS8 on Saturday morning: 1st. Presbyterian Spirit is led by Marques Cox (GB # 12) as they take Danny Greene and 80 Park 41 - 25. The two teams will meet again Friday at 6:30 in a first round playoff. The Rifles will play the Skyriders in the second biddie playoff game. Manhasset All Stars and Roadrunners finish in first place; they'll play against Friday winners next Saturday morning @ 9:15 and 10:15.
Midget division winners are JYO in the east and Orange Crush in the west. Midget first round playoffs are Thursday night. Number ones play the fourth place Rifles and tbd, while Huntington plays Ajax and Panthers play Skyriders. Semis are Saturday @ 11:15 & 12:15.
High school division playoffs begin Monday with Rise Above vs. Amityville and St. Mary vs. Ajax. On Tuesday division winners St. Francis and Huntington play Run & Gun and Rifle. (Panthers with Cooke and Sumpter don't make playoffs!) Semis are Wednesday night. Championship games for three divisions are Sunday, 8/15 @ 9:15, 10:15 and 12:00.
7/31/99 Biddies play at IS8 on Sunday morning: Southside is a no-show forfeiting to 80 Park and Elmcor overwhelms Skyriders 43 - 19. At halftime in the first midget game the Panthers led Ajax 31 - 15. In the high school division, Lenny Cooke and Curtis Sumpter are the concensus 1 and 1A players, but their Panther team has lost more than they've won. St. Francis, with Kevin Fitzgerald starring and Huntington are undefeated high school tams as of this week.
7/18/99 Biddies play at IS8 on Sunday morning: In the first game Jeff Outler and Ryan Eisner get 8 and 11 points for the Roadrunners 47 - 29 win over the Skyriders, despite 14 point from D. Joseph on four for five three point shooting. In the second game the 1st. Presbyterian Spirit took Southside 47 - 37. Reggie Lain (GB # 14) led the Spirit with 16, 5-10 Jeff Chandler had 14 and Marques Cox (GB # 12) got 8. Seven players scored for Skyriders but none in double figures.
7/17/99 Biddies (12 under - usually sixth graders) play at IS8 on Saturday morning. The Rifles' Ray (Arnold? - Gameball #1) and Jarrett ? score 18 and 16 points to easily take Elmcor 50 - 37. In the second game Manhasset beats 80 Park 37 - 32. Keith Turcios (GB # 15) scores 15 points and Tyson Johnson (GB # 27) gets lots of rebounds to offset Danny Greene's (GB #24) 13 points.
7/11/99 Biddies (12 under - usually sixth graders) play at IS8 on Sunday morning. The Rifles' Ray (Arnold? - Gameball #1) is the best player on the court and scores most of his team's points. But Manhasset Allstars lead all the way, hanging on to win 36 - 34. Keith Turcios (GB # 15) and unrated Kevin Dooley make the difference. In the second game the inside, outside 80 Park duo of Danny Greene (GB #24) and Aleek Pauline (GB #25) were too much for Elmcor. 80 Park wins 35 - 20 going away.
