1/29/05 John Malone (Section1Guy): 'Ck beats Rice 69-68 in OT.

Rice was up 58-48 with a minute and change in regulation before Chris Martin hit three 3's in a row and Larry Davis hit a fadeaway 3 with 6.7 seconds left to tie the game at 60. In the span, Rice was 2-8 from the free throw line.

Rice had big leads throughout most of the game. 20-8 in the second quarter became 23-18...30-22 became tied at 40 after 3 (the first time CK tied the game) and it was an 11 point lead at most in the 4th...CK led 2-0, and then didn't lead until 66-64.

In OT, the teams traded points until there were 57 seconds left and CK finally took the lead at 66-64. The teams traded free throws, and then with 20 seconds left Curtis Kelly got a basket and the foul to take a 67-66 lead. Christ the King came down the floor, got two shots off, and then with .8 seconds on the clock, Akeem Gooding got fouled by Vines and calmly sank both FTs without touching the net for the win.

Larry Davis finished with 23 points (5 in OT), 7 rebounds, and shot 9-22.

Akeem Gooding finished with 16 points, 15 rebounds, 3 steals, and shot 6-18.

Chris Martin finished with 19 points, 8 rebounds, and shot 7-18

Obviously nobody could put the ball in the basket for most of the game...CtK didn't make baskets at all until the final 2 minutes.

For Rice...  Kelly had 17 points, 17 boards, and 3 blocks on 8-12 shooting  Sosa had 19 points, 3 assists, on 5-12 shooting Vines had 14 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 steals

The key for the loss was probably Pratt and Brown with15 combined TOs.'
