Wyandanch High School, LI. 1/10/07 Coach Dre', Team Underrated: 'The Wyandanch Warriors from Long Island New York in Suffolk County went 19-6 last season and look to improve upon that this season. The Warriors play in League VII, Section XI where we won the Suffolk County Class B Championship, the Regional Class B Championship and ended our season with a tough loss to Lakawanna in the New York state semi-finals. This year the Warriors play a tough non-league schedule. We were in the Rim Rocker Classic at Longwood H.S where we will faced some tough competition in this three day tournament. The Warriors have some key players returning this season. We have the returning Suffolk County Player of the Year, shooting guard Christopher Barber. Last season Barber averaged 27 points, 7 steals and 5 assists a game. Joining Chris this year is his brother Cameron Barber. Cameron is a great inside player and a slasher who attacks the basket hard and knows how to finish. We also have sophomore Rashaud McQueen at point guard to control the offense, and a great supporting cast who thrive on playing aggressive defense.

2006-2007 Roster: Marquis Scott 6’1” senior forward, Jared Smith 6’7” senior center, Joel Foster 5’5” senior guard, Anthony Green 5’2” senior guard, Christopher Barber 6’1” senior guard, Kashawn Ferebee 5’8” senior guard, Earnest Fells 6’0” senior forward, Brian White 5’9 senior guard, Cameron Barber 6’2” junior forward, James Freeman 5’4” junior guard, Rashaud McQueen 5’8” sophomore guard, Jerry Matthew 5”8 senior guard, Kareem Whitaker 5”10 junior guard.

Support staff -- scorekeeper: Mr. Sekou Hakim, statistician: Lloyd Collins, cameraman: Kareem Whitaker and manager: Lloyd Collins.'

Automotive HS, Brooklyn. 11/25/06 Coach William Stasiuk: 'The Automotive Pistons should be an interesting, but somewhat unpredictable bunch this season. Last season the Pistons missed the playoffs for the first time in 4 years, as the roster was gutted and filled with freshmen and sophomores. It was a rebuilding year in the true sense of the word, as the Pistons went 4-20 (2-12 PSAL - A). In the process of growing, the Pistons after being blown out in early season games, came back stealing some wins down the stretch and playing several close league games. The playing time and experience that many freshman got in the program was invaluable, as the growing up continues this year. The only thing for sure about this group is that it has speed, speed and more speed and will play hard to the final buzzer as evidenced by 3 close early season tournament results.

The captains are juniors Brandon Baskerville (14 ppg last season) and 6th man Andrew Ruffin. Baskerville (5'9") a 3rd year player, leads a group of lightning quick guards who can score in bunches. Starting with Baskerville are 2nd year sophomores Davian Cowan (5'10") a classical point guard and tough defender as well as sophomore shooting guard Cashawn McFadden (5'9") a developing star. Providing depth at the guard spots are: 1st year junior Leonard Haynie (5'9") a combo guard who has his act togther on and off the court this season; freshman Terrell Wilson (5'8"), an excellent three point shooter with good fundamentals, and 1st year senior Johnny Santana (6'2") who fills in wherever needed on the court. Also in the mix at guard are 1st year sophomore Robert Grajales (5'3") and freshman Cory Kerr (6'0").

Automotive's front court is not particularly big at the moment, but they are young and growing and often play bigger than their size. Starting at the four spot is 2nd year sophomore Michael Bernard (6'0") a ball of energy on the boards and defense who will be among the city leaders in drawing charges this season. The other starter in the front-court is Bernard Garner. Garner is a 6'3" freshman who is extremely quick and very active on the boards. Also seeing a lot of minutes up front will be 2nd year sophomore Eli Richardson (6'4") who has improved greatly from last season. Ruffin (6'1") provides veteran leadership and toughness up front. Senior Duane Duncan (6'1") plays much bigger than his size. Also 4 freshman will fight to see the court and should all be a big part of Auto's future. They are Desmond Oliver (6'2"), Denzell Smith (6'1"), Sheldon Brown (6'0") and Yuri White (5'11"). They all have "big man" mentalities at a young age and will grow and improve as time goes on.

The coaches of the Pistons are Head Coach, Will Stasiuk (10th season) and Assistant Coaches James Davis (10th season) and Judd Winton (1st season).

With only 2 seniors and 12 underclassmen, the team is well-stocked and primed to have some big seasons the next two to three years after this one. This season they should be able to compete in all the games they play. Whether they can pull enough close ones out depends on how far the maturation process has progressed.'

Returning players Mike Douglas, Marcus Matthews (UMASS), Sharvar Richardson, Devon Elliott, Kevin Phillips, Danny Jennings and James Johnson all had solid off seasons and will be tough match-ups. The addition of impact new comers Greg Edwards and Trevon Hamlett (24pts. 12bds.  Freshman CHSAA) the Lions have matured at all positions and have athletes playing their natural positions where they will be recruited for in college, which is rare in New York City high school basketball. The Lions also added two of the nations top freshmen prospects in JayVaughn Pinkston (8th Grade AAU National Champion) and Doron (Day Day) Lamb both of whom have the talent to contribute immediately in the CHSAA (AA). The Lions will play a very strong schedule this year participating in the Springfield Hall of Fame Games, Primetime Shoot-out, Bay Ball Classic, Newman Goretti and The Big Apple Public Catholic Challenge as the future of Loughlin is looking very bright and Coach Green has worked hard and consistently to bring the roar back to this storied program.'

Cardozo, Queens, NY.  12/20/06 Ron Naclerio (I'm entering my 26th year as head coach, plus 4 as assistant): This is a team I really like. There are 12 players on the squad with only 3 seniors. The 3 seniors are 5'11" Marcus Berry, 6'7" Chris Abney (getting D2 and low D1 looks) and 5'11'sharpshooter JJ Garvin. Cardozo is led by two division 1 prospects in 6'7" James Southerland (top 5 in PSAL) and 6'1" guard Trinity Fields (both his dad and older brother played for me). Also there is 5'8"  captain and defensive whiz Vincent Scott, 6'3" bull Edy Toussaint, 6' Dennis Ogelsby, 6'4" Randy Preval, 6'3" Denzel Wilson - all juniors. Christ the King Royals, Queens, NY. 11/25/06 Coach Bob Oliva: 'The Royals are coming off a twenty five & five Brooklyn Queens Championship, City runner up season. They will return three starters and a sixth man from last year’s team. Cocaptains Malik Boothe & Andrew Gabriel will be back along with Erving Walker & Ryan Pearson. Boothe, a 5-9 senior & Walker a 5-7 junior will once again make up a jet like backcourt. Boothe, who will play at St. Johns next year will be starting his 3rd season on the varsity and Walker his 2nd. Together they make up the quickest backcourt at C. K. since Erick Barkley & Speedy Claxton back in 1996. Gabriel, a 6-5 forward will be in his 3rd year in the starting lineup for the Royals. Pearson who was brought to the varsity mid way last season and became a starter in the State tournament, will add scoring around the basket, and at 6-5 will help on the backboards. Gabriel also 6-5 was the team's leading rebounder last season can score points and will be called on to do so. Also helping out up front is 6-5 Marquis Grant & 6-3 Joe Nuss, both juniors, With Boothe & Walker both point guards and playing side by side 5-11 senior Malcolm Kelly and 6-1 sophomore Sean Johnson will see time as the 3rd guard in a three guard offense. As always the schedule is tough, but if we get enough rebounding from our front line, our defense and scoring will take care of itself. As far as the league just about every team has improved so it should be another fun year in the C.H.S.A.A.'

High School For Math, Science, & Engineering @ CCNY.   11/25/06 Head Coach: Darryl Jones: 'Nickname: Dragons. Assistant Coach: Sam Jones. Colors: Purple, Black, & White.

The HSMSE Dragons participate in the PSAL Manhattan West A division. Last season we finished 16-4 in our league and 19-5 over all. We had key win over the Institute For Collaborative Education and Seward Park HS. We lost in the playoffs to Acorn HS.

The key players on last season's team were point guard Chistian Ehigiator who led the team in scoring at 20 points per game, now playing at Vermont Academy and Theron Harris now at Genesso College. This year's team will be lead by returning leading scorer Sam Porte at 14 points and 12 rebounds per game and versatile 6'8 guard/forward Antonio Upia who is drawing the attention of division one schools such as Saint Peter's and Army. The Dragons round out their roster with guards Manpret Singh, Lovel James, Nate Sincker and Max Tierno. Forwards are  Kenny Lewis, Michael Cordova, Andrew Excell and Sterling Clark. For more information on the dragons  you can email me at coachjnones44@aol.com.'

Juniors who will be making their impact this year and moving from JV are: 5’11” SG Maurice Phillip, who will be strong addition to our guard oriented team, as he is able to knock down the 3 pt as well as a very athletic drive, and is continuously showing improvement in different areas, 5’10” PG Roya Blair, Jr., who has shown a great deal of improvement in his game as well as his strength, and he would be a key addition to our running game, as well as a vital element to the shooters surrounding him, 6’2” F/G Tahan Terrell, who has a versatile game that should bring a key addition to our starting rotation.

John Bowne H.S. 11/21/06 Assistant Coach Roberto Diaz:  'Head Coach: John Tsapelas, Assistants: Dennis Ehrlich, Roberto Diaz & Robert Moses. The Wildcats were the 2nd place team in the PSAL Queens A II, behind Cardozo in the 2005-06 season.

After losing 2 of our key starting players, Leslie Princivil, who was the PSAL 2005-06 A Division season leader in assists, and Matthew Collazo, who led the Queens A II in rebounding, to graduation and proud of them moving on, we have two returning key seniors: 6’0” SG/PG Michael Bruce, who can light it up on a heart beat from 3pt land, but has also developed a strong penetration/slashing aspect to his game finishing strong at the basket as well as being very good free throw shooter. He is without a doubt the best transition shooter in the A. 5’11” SG Kevin Samuels will be another returning key element to our success. He gives us the ability to have multiple outside threats as he can knock down the 3pt, as well as being a good FT shooter.

Other juniors: 6’5” C/PF Chad Cumberbatch, a strong addition under the boards as he is continuously showing improvement and enhancement to his all around game. He will make a big impact as the season progresses. 6’1” G Lamar McDonald, 6’1”G Franklin Johnson and 5’10” G Richard Barnnett.

Sophomore: 6’3” F/G Phillip Tavada, who was moved up from JV after his 1st year, and we are looking forward to key contributions from his versatile game. He has shown a great deal improvement, while being a good student of the game, as well as a hard worker.

We will be participating in the following: Sat 11/25/06 @ 3:30pm in the Thanksgiving Classic at JHS 275 in Brooklyn, Sat 12/16/06 @ 3:30pm in the Newtown Classic at JHS 275 in Brooklyn, Sat 12/30/06 @ 3:45pm in the 2nd Annual Queens Jam Christmas Classic at John Bowne HS, Sun 1/07/07 @ 12:45pm in the Elmcor Alumni Classic by Pro Am at Elmcor in Queens, and Sat 1/13/07 @ 11am in the Martin Luther King Classic at JHS 275 in Brooklyn. The defending State and Federation Champions, Mt. Vernon Knights, are led by their Senior Captain, G Mike Coburn (Rutgers). By season's end, Mike should surpass Jonathan Mitchell 06' (Florida) as the all time winningest player in Mt. Vernon history. A two time State and Federation Champion, Mike, along with SG Jahrine Jones look to make more history by becoming the only players in Mt. Vernon history to win 3 Championship rings. To get that, they will need impact seasons from their returning seniors 6' 4" F/C Woody Eliezer (Bloomfield -DII), 5' 11" G Marcquis Abney, and 5' 11" G Malik Taylor. After a stellar spring/summer with the Westchester Hawks 16U team, juniors 5' 10" Ketema Brooks, PG, and 6' 8" Kevin Jones, PF, are more than capable of carrying this team. The sophomore class is extremely talented with G/F 6' 3" Sherrod Wright expected to start, and 5' 10" Jordan Lessane and 6' 5" Odayne Clarke at the ready whenever Coach Cimmino needs them. 6' 3" senior Kortney Parker is the first senior in 11 years to make the varsity squad. Along with juniors 6' 2" Tyrone Mitchell, and 6' 2" Naseer Robinson, these newbies are able to bring lots of energy and intensity to this year's team.

Yet again, the Knights will compete versus a national schedule. Their season opener will be in the Riverbank State Park Christmas Tournament on Dec. 16 versus Manhattan Center. Then, the Knights will travel to Charlotte, NC to play in the Dell Curry High School Shootout, where they will face Sagemont HS (FL) in the first round on Dec. 27. On Jan 12th, they go up against White Plains HS, which could pit the two best teams in Section 1 this year. Then, the Knights travel to the Basketball Hall of Fame Tournament, where they will play the USA Today # 2 team in the nation, Norcross HS on Jan. 15th. Another key game will be played at the University of Pittsburgh, versus last years Pennsylvania State Champions Aliquippa HS, featuring highly ranked big man Herb Pope. And on Feb 11, they'll travel to Trenton to play in the Prime Time Shootout versus the always tough St. Raymond's HS. Along the way, more games versus White Plains HS and New Rochelle HS insures yet another tough road to travel if they wish to get to Glen Falls.

Out of 79 players he's coached at the varsity level, Bob Cimmino has sent 77 players to college! And all of this out of a public school program. So its onward and upwards for the Mt. Vernon Knights.'

Msgr. Scanlan High School, Bronx. 11/17/06 Coach: Frank Iurilli: 'Asst. Coach: Mike Diaz.

The Scanlan Crusaders look to improve on their 3rd place finish last season in the C.H.S.A.A. “B” Division. Scanlan brings back four players from last year’s team. Leading Scanlan again this year will be the quick and very creative senior Carlos Montenegro, at the point. Scanlan has high expectations for seniors Andre Duncan, Justin Cruz and Justin Antonio. With new seniors Reinaldo Goyco and Christian Camacho, Scanlan has a great core of seniors to help the underclassmen.

Scanlan will look to get some major production from the junior classmen David Torres and Fabian Tejada, who will be getting a lot of opportunities to try and crack the starting lineup.

Scanlan will be playing in four tournaments this season. The first one will be the Msgr.Clancy Tournament in Queen in early December. In the middle of December we will be in the Pleasantville Tournament in Westchester Co. Over Christmas break we will travel to Trumbull, Connecticut for the Northeast Christmas Tournament. In February the Scanlan Crusaders will participate in the Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament hosted by Manhattan College. The Msgr. Nazareth HS, Brooklyn. 11/21/06 Glenn Thomas: 'Youth will be the operative word for the 2006-07 Nazareth Kingsmen. The Kingsmen will most likely start two sophomores and three juniors for the upcoming season. The returning players will be asked to assume new roles. Returning this season are juniors Nana Boateng, Leonard Smith and Steven Grant. With the departures of Michael Hill (Dowling) and Xavier Gonzalez (SUNY, Albany) these juniors will be asked to take on new roles in the scoring department. Although Boateng, Smith and Grant played many minutes it is their leadership that will heavily counted upon. 5-7 sophomore guard Marquise Lee also returns to the varsity after a stellar freshmen campaign. His experience and leadership will also be needed in both in scoring and running the team. Boateng is a speedy 5-7 point guard that can shoot the ball as well as penetrate. Smith is a heady small forward that has the ability to play much larger than his size and knock down the shot when needed. Both Boateng and Smith are on the honor roll at Nazareth with over a 90 GPA. Grant will be asked to play big this season due to his size. Three seniors join the Kingsmen for the upcoming season. Kevin Orr, Stephon Joseph and Pat Bryant will be asked to contribute with the intangibles that don’t show up in the scorebook. Juniors Stanley Hamp, Avalon Adams, Brian McKenzie and Ricardo Ali will be given their baptism under fire right away for the Kingsmen will have everyone on call for each contest. Another sophomore Louis Frank will be joining the varsity and will be expected to contribute due to his size and athleticism. Although a bit undersized the Kingsmen will play their usual pressure man defense and fast break offense. Tilden, Brooklyn. 11/12/06 Coach Eric 'Rock' Eisenberg: 'This years Tilden "Blue Devils" varsity basketball team is an aggressive, unselfish group of motivated young men. We are not the most talented team we have ever had at Tilden but we might be the most together group of student/athletes that I have had the chance to coach in a long time. We will be led by 6' 5" super athletic Sr. power forward Nigel Francis. High scoring 6'4" Jr. wing Fred Antoine will supply plenty of hustle and points and our lightening quick backcourt of 5' 9'' SR. Jamal "The Captain" Ward and 5' 9" high scoring Javon Jackman will keep us in most games. Our fifth starter will be unselfish tough rebounding 6' 4" Sr. cocapt. Omar Thompson whose effort and desire always sparks our team.  Our key reserves will start with 5' 10" rebounding guard Darrell Nelson who as a senior will help us at both ends of the court .Another key player for us will be 6' 5" Jr. combo guard Ashton Pascall who must rebound from early season maturity issues in order to give us a big boost. This year at Tilden we will carry 20 players so most of our new players such as Devon Muller, Rashi Smith, Tremaine Johnson, Taron Pascal, Theo Francis and David Logan will battle for minutes in practice each day. Our team will be helped a great deal by 5' 11" honor student and star football player Warren Hazel when he rejoins us on November 28th.We also will get great minutes from talented Soph Guard 6' Ebuka Ekwealor who can really play when he is motivated to do so. Jr. guard John Fields should also compete for some time as will 6' 2" scorer Jr. "KC" Martins. 6' 4" Colby Charley will really help us as he can score in bunches and last but not least 6' 7" Hananiah Jones is an athletic and fluid developing post player who we must find a way to get on the court. Finally, there's 6' 4" Senior. wing Roller Alexis who is a very athletic high flyer who will help us when he gains game experience.

Our coaching staff will include Associate Head Coach John Harris, the incomparable Howard Hughes and the "Professor" Michael George. Our principal is Ms. Diane Varano and our school colors are Royal Blue, Silver and White. Our school address is 5800 Tilden Ave. Brooklyn New York 11203. School phone is 718-629-4523-Ex 149. Our goal for this year is to help place all our seniors in college, make the P.S. A. L. playoffs and try to improve each day.'

Wadleigh Tigers, NYC.  PSAL.org Manhattan AA schedule and standings. Last season the Tigers were 16-0 in their division and won the first two borough playoff games handily - 75-43 over  Arts & Design and 49-43 past West 50th Street. They lost the borough championship game 66-61 to Thurgood Marshall Academy. In the PSAL playoffs they beat Telecommunication Arts & Technology 73-63 before losing to Johnny Mathis' JFK team 61-50.

9/25/06 Coach Michael Crump: 'This season Wadleigh HS is taking the floor with an anticipated 7 seniors.

Phillip Perier is the anticipated focal point of the offense at point guard.  He should average over 20 points and provide solid shooting and great penetration skills for us.  He currently has an 84% GPA and is taking the SAT this month.  Phillip is possibly a D2 but definitely an NCAA D3 player.

Marlon Morgan is a standout academic student with an 86% average and has slimmed down to 225 over the summer from 245 at 6'4.  A finesse big man at the power forward position who has a high basketball IQ and can average double doubles in rebounding and scoring. Marlon is D3 or D2.

Julien Allen is an underrated combo guard at 6'2 and can score and rebound. A 90% average student who will not rely on basketball for a scholarship.  Julien has Ivy league interest for academics and can walk on to a team at a major school.

Jeremy Bell, Sean Lovett, Cardell Gadsen and Morris Guei round out the senior class of role playing contributors.

Transfer Joshua Watkins is an AAU player with the Panthers and a summer league phenom.  After having some great games for Our Savior Lutheran last year, Josh will play big minutes right away and average 20 points.  Junior Varsity graduates Phillip Coleman at 6'4 and Chris Pleasant at 6'2 figure to play some major minutes and contribute. Two academically ineligible players will be ready in time for the end of the season and the playoffs. Sophomore Curtis Loving, our sole D1 recruit at 6'6, will give us a playoff presence and Jeff Morgan at 6'5 will have to stay in the books to join us as well.  We look forward to competitive play in the PSAL and I will post my team schedule once my non league games have been set up.  If there is anyone interested in a non league game, we have a few available.'

Wyandanch HS, LI. 12/21/06 Andre Edwards (JV-Head Coach): 'The Wyandanch Warriors from Long Island  in Suffolk County went 19-6 last season and look to improve upon that this season. The Warriors play in League Seven, Section XI; they won the Suffolk County class B championship the regional class B championship and ended their season with a tough loss to Lakawanna in the New York state semi-finals. This year the Warriors play a tough non-league schedule. They are in the Rim Rocker Classic at Longwood H.S. where they will face some tough competition in this three day tournament from Dec 28-30. We play PSAL South Shore, Amityville, and a good East Hampton team led by Mike Russell. The Warriors have a key player returning this season in guard Christopher Barber. Last season Barber averaged 27 points, 7 steals and 5 assists a game. Joining Chris this year is his brother Cameron Barber. Cameron is a great inside player and a slasher, he attacks the basket hard and knows how to finish. We also have sophomore Rashaud McQueen at point guard to control the offense, and a great supporting cast who thrive on playing aggressive defense.

Coaches: Kenny McCloud (Head Coach) 2nd season, Abdur Rahman Kareem (asst. coach).'
