BROWNING VARSITY BASKETBALL 2007-2008

LEAGUE : ISAL (Independent Schools Athletic League) Division II

Head Coach : Dan Taveras
Assistant Coach : Jonas Borra

SEASON OUTLOOK

After placing 2nd in the league last year, Browning looks to improve to a first place league finish, placing them into the ISAL Division 1 for the 2008-2009 season. Leading the way for Browning are returning starters, juniors Roger Gesswein & Thaniil Theoharis. Accompanying them in the starting lineup are varsity returnee, sophomore Rohan
Wijegoonaratna, junior transfer Spencer Ward and incoming freshman, Terrel "Zoom" Phelps. Juniors Alex Gesswein & James Preiss provide solid rotation off the bench along with Freshmen Harrison Fields and Conan Jadotte. Leading the team as the only seniors are Chris Perkins & Ahmed El Razi.

Browning will look to run as much as possible as they have several very talented ballhandlers who can get to the basket with ease. With solid defense and excellent speed on offense, this year's Browning team should make a splash in the private school basketball scene.

St. Edmund 2007-2008 Preview

Division:Brooklyn/Queens Class "A" (City Champions 1999, 2003)

Last Year: 8-17 (6-12)

Returning Starters: 1 (Cody Gauvard)

Coach: Dan Wiatre, Assistant coach Rob Wiatre

Preview: 8 Seniors, 4 Juniors, 1 Sophomore make up the roster.
In the backcourt, Seniors John Douglas (6'0) and Chris Patti (6'2) should start. Both gained valuable experience last season and should enjoy solid campaigns. Support should come from Juniors Bret Paul (5'9), P.J. DeFonzo (5'9) and shooter Brian Lieber (5'11).
On the wing the Eagles are tall and athletic with Senior John Romeo (6'4) and Super Sophomore Vinny Marchiano (6'3). Romeo, an All-League candidate, can rebound and shoot. Marchiano is athletic shoots it well and could be the difference maker this year by the time league play begins.
At the forward spots the Eagles have 5 players with size ready to conribute. Seniors Cody Gauvard (6'6), Perkins Choute (6'2), Jeremy Louison (6'2), Brian Powers (6'5), and Junior Jamie Thelwell (6'2). Gauvard is the most underrated player in the CHSAA this year. He can do it all and should have a monster year. He plays inside and out and at 6'6 215 can run the point. Every school in the area needs to take a look at his skill set. Choute is our toughest player and best defender. Louison can score and rebound. Powers gives us great size and rebounding off the bench. Thelwell can score and block shots.
The Eagles hope to improve as the season moves along and contend for a top seed entering the playoffs. The schedule includes Grady, Holy Trinity, Bishop Loughlin, AVIATOR CHRISTMAS TOURNAMENT, and Cardinal Hayes.

core group from last years team back this considered on paper to be the
Panther's best chance to advance further in the city playoffs than in
any other previous years. Returning for the Panthers are returning
Leading scorer Trevor Dillard( 13ppg) a burly strong guard and point guard
Sean Corley(8 ppg) and (6 apg) a Chris Paul protype. Newly transferred

Joe Lombardi, Kyle Beechum and Alex Gulotta were the leading scorers last year and all have improved their respective games significantly from last season. The Bears have a lot of new talent coming onto the roster this season and returners who should really contribute. They will probably start off the season ranked #1 in the State for Class B and should finish it that way. They will play a highly competitive schedule this winter. They will be in the Slam Dunk Challenge in the County Center over Winter Break squaring off against Jamesville-Dewitt from Syracuse in the first round. Other teams participating include: Archbishop Stepinac, Peekskill, Port Chester, Cardozo, White Plains ect.
