2000 AAU teams:

Aim High - coaches Vincent Smith, Reay Beekman and Kevin Jackson.  4/99 Taliek Brown was the 1999 spring IS8 star on their roster.

Albany City Hawks - director and coach, Jim Hart, coach Peter Shehan. Jim Hart is the prime mover behind June's Rumble in the Bronx, scheduled for the 16th through the 18th this year at Fordham University.  Rocks' 17u roster, which won the Rumble as 16u team,  includes Craig Forth, Lucious Jordan, Jason McKreith,  Brent Sniezyk (6-10, 240 junior played for Adirondack in last summer's Empire State games),  RJ Harvey (JJ's younger brother is a 5-11 point guard - he's a football player attracting D1 interest),  6-0 Sean McCloskey (soph younger brother of Matt),  soph Rayshon Freeman and 6-5 power forward Stephen Snipes. The team is playing a national schedule this season including the Providence Jam Fest,  Wayne Simone's tournament,  NY State AAU competition,  Nike Bluegrass on Memorial weekend,  Peach Jam and Nike Super Showcase in Orlando.

Amityville -

BQ Express - director and head coach Artie Cox, he is also head JV coach and assistant coach at Christ the King HS.  In 1999 it was Omar Cook, Zach Williams, Jave Meade, Will Poole and Jerome Holman.

Bronx Gauchos - director Paul Brown and coaches Bobby Holford,  Dwayne Mitchell,  Richard Burks.  4/00 The 'chos will be fielding 13u through 17u teams this season at Charlie Weber in Villanova,  Jam Fest in Providence,  Rumble in the Bronx and the Gym Rat Challenge in Albany as well as New York state AAU competition.  The 16u team will feature Sagari Allegne,  Kenny Eusey,  Loul Deng (Ajou Ajou's little brother), Marlon Smith, Daniel Green,  Donnie McGrath,  Christian Brown and William Miller. They'll be at the Providence Jam Fest,  IS8, Rumble in the Bronx  and CityWide.  4/3/00  Rich:  'The Tim Thomas Playaz Spring Fling championships were held today at Paterson Catholic HS. As I left the gym, the 15 and under championship game featuring the Gauchos vs. the Rhode Island Breakers was in early first half action. Marlon Smith (Molloy) was the standout in the first few minutes.  3/12/00 PETENICE23: 'IS8 Winter Midgets-Gauchos Champs, Riverside Church Runner-Up. Yadda Gaines - Gauchos-MVP, A.J. Price - Riverside Church- Sportmanship.'  The Gauchos led by 22 - 10 after the first quarter and never trailed in the game. Yadda Gaines was the Midget tournament MVP stepping up his game for a 20 point performance. Russell Robinson, Ronald Ramos and Albert Forbes chipped in with 18, 12 and 8 points.  

Brooklyn Bridge  Director Khalid Green.  Current ninth grade team includes,  Mitchell Beauford,  Karron Clarke,  Brian Williams,  Cassius Carpenter,  Jamaal Dart and Gary Forbes.  Eighth graders are Andrew Carpenter,  Jarel Haskins, Elsmore Gabriel and Basil Leslie.  The teams will be competing this season at Basketball City,  Charlie Weber in Villanova,  CityWide,  Eastern Invitational UDC and Tilary Park tournament.  3/27/00 Khasbklynbridge:  'The Brooklyn Bridge AAU 9th grade team competed in the Sam Rines Philly Hoopfest over the weekend winning 6 games including the championship against The Philly Elite. They were led by Mitchell Beauford (Christ The King) and Karron Clarke (Benjamin Banneker) who averaged 13 and 12 points respectively. Brian Williams (Christ The King) averaged 9 points and 14 rebounds per game. Cassius Carpenter (St. Patrick's) showed why he is one of the best and underrated point guards from New York City averaging 8 pts. per game to go along with 10 assists.'

Huntington  Like Elmcor,  Southside and the NY Skyriders,  this is an IS8 club. Their spring 2000 roster includes Justin Simpson,  Vernon Alonzo,  Willie McClurkin,  James Hurt,  Dan Merritt,  Mike Smith,  Dave Ott,  Damion Fray and  John Donnefield.

Jersey City Bondsmen -  This is the St. Anthony's AAU club.  Bob Hurley does not coach them and Elijah Ingram is starring for the Tim Thomas Playaz.  The coaches are Don Copeland and Ron Lee.  The roster is Paul J P Kobryn,  Donald Copeland,  Dwayne Lee,  Carmine Charles,  Charles Clark,  Pete Cipriano,  Bashir Mason,  Tommy Murrell,  Phil Banknight, Randy Heyliger and Ashley Marivel.  They'll be playing in the Albany Gym Rat Tournament on Memorial Day weekend. They may be at Kips Bay and CityWide during the summer.

Jersey Jaguars - coach Dave Wasilenko. Mainly Don Bosco Prep roster.

Jersey Shore Cyclones -  9/11/99  NJ Hoops:  'The Jersey Shore Cyclones AAU team is filled with Mid Major, low divisiion 1, and Division 2 talent. The players and who is recruiting them are: Mensah Peterson 6'1" PG from North Brunswick (FDU may Lead), Darius Lumpkin 6'4" South Brunswick combo guard (UNH may lead), Mike Goia 6'3" Somerville H.S. (Bucknell, Rider, Prep).'

Long Island Crusaders - This is the L I Lutheran AAU team.  At 1999 spring IS8 it was Zigmas Kaknevicius,  Rob Wright,  Mike Riscetti,  Justin Cole,  Terrance Dotzler,  Paul Skirbe.

Long Island Lightning - The coach is Jim Fox and the arena is the Island Garden in West Hempstead.  4/4/00  Coach Sly Johnson:  'If you want to get a handle on most of the top Metro Players, consider going to the Island Garden Basketball Center in West Hempstead. Especially with the AAU regional qualifiers coming up. They have games players by all age groups all day every day. You will probably see more players in one location on the same day than anywhere else. Check their web site: Island Garden.com.'

Long Island Panthers - director and coach, Gary Charles.  3/31/00  realscout@webtv.net:  'Tim Thomas Playaz Tourney -- I went to watch the Long Island Panthers play against a no name Hawks team. Who do you think won? The no name Hawks were winners by a knockout! The Panthers boasted the unbelievable 15 yrs old 8th grader Sebastian Telflair!   3/28/00 realscout@webtv.net:  '2000 CYP Tourney -- Riverside Church came into yesterday's game with one thing on their mind. Winning! That's what they did yesterday in a 80-68 victory over a Panthers team who came in as the favorites despite the seedings. 3/27/00 realscout@webtv.net:  '2000 CYP Tourney -- Long Island Panthers vs New Jersey Roadrunners  It looked like the Roadrunners had the game under control going into the last quarter. That's when the Talented Trio of Lenny Cooke, Charlie Villanueva and  Curtis Sumpter took over! They looked as though they were playing together for years! Dunking and dishing to each other like it was an All-Star game. They were helped out by great leadership from Jeff McMillian and Eric Ferguson.  4/99:  At 1999 spring IS8 the B team is Darryl Boykins, Justice Howell, Mike Sherrod and Lenny Cooke.  Panthers A team is Kenny Satterfield, Brian Woodward, Eric Ferguson, Fab Fisher,  Andre Williams and Drew Nicholas. 7/23/99 Russ Blake 'Carson, CA -- The Long Island Panthers continued their disappointing play at the tournament, missing 20 of 34 free throw attempts in falling 64-60 to Colorado Jam.'

New York (Don't Call Us the Bronx) Ravens - Gary DeCesare, director and coach, coach Artie Green.   4/00: Coach  Gary DeCesare 'New York Ravens have been in existence for 4 years, since 1996. Our program has gained national exposure over the past couple of years with our participation in major tournaments across the country and with the players who have participated in our program.  In just 4 years, New York Ravens have won the 1999 BobGibbons/Charlie Weber Tournament at Villanova University; 1999 Basketball City Summer Slam; 1999 Boston BABC Invitational; !998 Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions; 1996 Big Time Tounament in Las Vegas. Most recently we won the 2000 Charlie Weber Tounament @ Villanova defeating the Gauchos in the championship.

Tim Thomas Playaz - director and coach, Jimmy Salmon.  4/00  Key 17u Playaz not at the Fling were 6-8 Isaiah Gomez from Garfield and 6-3 Chester Carter of Don Bosco. The younger group's star trio of Webb,  Sanchez and Nutter are joined by Passaic's 6-6 Eric Muniz and 6-5 Kaleef Willis,  Darryl Watkins and Philly soph, 6-9 Eric Davis. The Playaz will be at the Providence Jam Fest,  Connecticut Select tournament,  Spiece  in Indianna,  Bob Gibbons over Memorial Day weekend and the BT Classic in Washington DC.  They'll be in Vegas for the Big Time tournament and at the Rumble in the Bronx.   4/3/00  Rich:  'The Tim Thomas Playaz Spring Fling championships were held today at Paterson Catholic HS. In the 16 and under opener, Riverside Church defeated the Tim Thomas Playaz, 73-63. For the losers, Paterson Catholic freshman Marquis Webb (20 points), Bishop Eustace soph Kenell Sanchez (12 points) and Seton Hall Prep freshman Jamar Nutter (9 points) were the leading scorers. The all tournament team featured Kenell Sanchez, Marquis Webb, Wendell Gibson, Keydren Clark and tournament MVP Ricky Soliver. In the open division, the Tim Thomas Playaz defeated Del Val Hoops in overtime, 84-75. Elijah Ingram (21), Jeremiah King (20), John Winchester (16), and Coatesville HS junior John Allen (15) led the Playaz. The Playaz also featured some of Philly's top juniors in St. John Neumann's Brandon Brigman, Frankford's Nicholas King, and Roman Catholic's Tamal Forchion.  The all tournament team featured Jeremiah King, Arthur Barclay, John Allen, Dajuan Wagner, and MVP Elijah Ingram of St. Anthony's.  Kudos to former Paterson Catholic head coach Jimmy Salmon for a well-run tournament featuring some of this area's best players.'  4/3/00  NJ Hoops: Playaz win open.  And Playaz lose in 16's. 4/4/00 Russ Blake @ Insiders Report:  Playaz Win Spring Fling.  Marlon Smith leads Gauchos as They Win 15-Under @ Fling.   All tournament team from the Tim Thomas Playaz Spring Fling.
