Baltimore Blue, MD.  Coach Joe Connelly: 'Baltimore Blue is in its third year as a NIKE travel team. Prior to becoming the Baltimore Blue we were the Charm City Baltimore team sponsored by Adidas. Carmelo Anthony, Melvin Scott, and Keith Jenifer have probably been our highest profile players over this time. This years squad is big, five 6'8 or better, but not as well equipped in the backcourt. We play hard though and that is what we are known for. This is a recap of our first three events this spring.

T1T Spring Fling -- We made it to the finals for the second year in a row where we lost to a very explosive Playaz squad. Had a good win against a very patient and well-coached Gauchos team in the semi-finals. Jujuan Robinson a 5'10 guard from Dunbar and 6'4 lefty Renardo Dickerson of the Mifford Academy led the way.

Boo Williams -- Lost to eventual champion Alabama Lasers in the pool championship game after beating the Jersey All-Stars and the Tallahassee Florida Wildcats. Beat last years AAU champions Illinois Warriors in the quarterfinals of the silver bracket before falling the the silver champs Wisconnsin  Playground Warriors. They have a 6'6 guard named Marquise Wade who nothing but the truth, with legit NBA range. He is going to Wisconnsin next year. 6'4 Shannon Brown from the ILL. Warriors was nice too. 6'8 Joey Dorsey, 6'8 300 Byron Joynes, 6'8 Jerome Johnson (So.) all played tough basketball.

Charlie Weber -- Went 3-0 in the pool beating Philly Hoops, Jersey Hawks, and another team. Only had 2 guards as injury limited our roster. Dickerson played the 1-4 spots and was tremendous. We lost to the Adidas team from Illinois as we did not match-up well w/their guards. We had Baltiomore refs and still lost with our five techs to their none. We lost by two. So much for hometown cooking, I can't wait to "discuss" the game with them.'

Bayside Titans, NY. Harry Roth: 'We are in our fourth year and this will be our second year playing AAU.  Head Coach : Harry Roth, coach : Fred Lastres. Captain : Gilbert Montalvo (point guard going to St. Mary's),  Eric Lastres (guard going to Molloyl),  James Mutlu (guard going to St. Mary's), Steven Prudente ( forward going to St. Francis Prepl), Deivys Maldonado (forward undecided), Sean Sobrino (center Holy Cross High School), Alex Nakashian (center St. Francis Prepl),  Scott Ventimiglia (guard IS25), Steven Naftaly (guard IS25), Paul Lavoir (forward IS25),  Evans Pyrrhon (Forward IS141).

We will be playing in eight AAU tournaments this spring including RI Breakers Tournament in Putnam CT 4/12-4/14, Metro AAU Regional at Island Gardens in Long Island 4/19-4/21, Chase the Game in the Bronx 4/27-4/28, Garden State Spring Slamfest in Teaneck NJ 5/5-5/7, CJ Hawks Shore Shoot Out in Holmdel NJ 5/31-6/2, Hudson Valley Knights Boys Summer Joust Poughkeepsie NY 6/8-6/9, LI Lightning Invitational 6/21-6/23. SONDAY Express John Miciotta: 'Formerly known as BQ express, this team boasts one of the city's best coaches in Artie Cox, as well as some terrific talent. As one who follows New York hoops might suspect, much of that is talent Cox has helped nurture at Christ the King HS. The "older" team, if you will, made up of seniors and juniors, includes CK mainstays Japhete McNeil, Mitchell Beauford and the rapidly improving Justin Marshall. Add Automotive's talented senior George Jefferson and Molloy's super soph Yadda Gaines to that mix and you have a team that's quick, moves the ball smartly, and can play tough defense. If they can add size they will be one of the better summer teams in the city and even without it, they will compete because of quickness toughness and the coaching of Mr. Cox.

This program is also loaded with talented 9th and 10th graders and that team also relies on a heavy dose of Royal red and gold. Talented freshmen Chris Martin and Nico Scott man the back court while another pair of Royal sophs provide the size up front. William Harris is a 6'4" 215 pound strong man whom CK coach Bob Oliva calls a Y2K version of  former St. John's captain Carl Beckett because of his aggressive play and nose for the ball. Brian Beckford is a talented, long and rangy 6'5" forward who needs only to add toughness and confidence to become one of the top players in the sophmore class. Top sophomore Phillip Murray, now at Flushing high is also talented kid who needs to play more under control.'

Staten Island Lightning,  John Fitzpatrick, Staten Island AAU observer: 'The best team in the 15u division for boys in NY this year has to be the Staten Island Lightning. They are the best team from when they were 13 and runners up from last year. They have a complete team that goes 8 deep. Starters can range from any of those 8. They have two smart wise captains in 6'5" small forward Doug Elwell from Msgr.Farrell and 6'0" point guard Kyle MacCalarney from Moore Catholic. Other players include 6'4" shooting guard Frank Messina (Tottenville) 6'2" shooting guard Tom Downing (Curtis) 6'3" power foward Paul Andersen (Poly Prep), 6'2 foward Kazeem Famuyide (St.Patricks), 5'11 shooting guard Ramsey Hill (New Dorp) 6'7 center Lawerence Williams (Freddrick Douglass Academy). They can compete with any team in the country. Made the Sweet 16 in the Nationals in Florida. You want to see basketball played watch these guys!'
