The UNIQUE ALL STARS

PROGRAM MISSION:

The Unique All Stars are designed to organize various sporting activities for disadvantage youth. These sporting activities will help enhance and encourage academic and athletic abilities. The organizational goal is to develop a well-rounded player on and off the court. Interpersonal and game skills will be increased through our trained and experienced coaching staff while providing opportunities for career exploration, academic enrichment and familiarity with the college entry process.

The Unique All Stars have five Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) basketball teams for boys and girls, ages 10-16. Organized sporting activities are used as a catalyst by which we can encourage youth to do well in school and help them make wise career choices. The recruitment, skill training, sponsorships, and collaboration with public and private sectors help to ensure a comprehensive program. Parental support is expected to further assist the organization with improving the specific needs of each participant.

Unique All Stars Athletic Component:

The athletic component for the Unique All Stars consists of the AAU teams, AAU Invitational Tournament, Summer Camp, Summer League, Clinics, and the Fall Intramural League. Each participant benefits from individual training as well as small group instruction, in order to improve their basketball skills.

AAU Teams:

Teams consist of five AAU teams. Two male and three female teams.

BOYS

12 and Under

13 and Under GIRLS

13 and Under

14 and Under

16 and Under

Each team includes at least ten players but does not exceed fifteen.

Clinics and tryouts are in three locations which provides us with the opportunity to scout out players in lower income areas. With access to gym facilities in Hempstead and Wyandanch, Long Island and in Bedford Styvesant-Brooklyn, New York the Unique All Stars have been able to reach athletic youth in lower income areas.

AAU Tournament:

The Unique All Stars will host an AAU Sanctioned Invitational Tournament in the spring/summer for boys and girls. The tournament will utilize top quality basketball facilities on Long Island.

Summer League:

The Unique All Stars will host a Summer League 2004. An inner city or Long Island site will be selected for this summer activity. The funds raised from registration fees, admissions, snacks and other items sold will go towards team expenses. Team members and parents will help organize and oversee the summer league games.

Summer Camp:

The Unique All Stars Administration and Coaches will organize a summer basketball camp in the Long Island area. Date and location to be determined. Professional players from the NBA, WNBA, and other leagues will be sought to make guest appearances at the camp. Admission fees for camp participants vary according to family income; some camp scholarship will be made available to those in need.

The Unique All Stars will host periodic Clinics and Seasonal Intramural Games.

Unique All Stars Academic Program:

The Unique All Stars Academic Program consists of career exploration activities and academic guidance. The academic guidance can be as simple as requesting quarterly reports cards to more complex tutorial or SAT preparation services. The academic component keeps us abreast on how our players perform in school. This information will enable us to provide the proper workshops and offer any type of academic assistance. The workshops will encompass career assessment testing, guest speakers, business and industry tours, exploration activities, college selection and application process, tutorial, SAT preparation, book clubs, the entrepreneurial program, interpersonal skills, grooming and other related materials will be presented.

Career Assessment:

A self-scoring career assessment test will be administered to the Middle and High School students. This test helps to identify participants true underling abilities and attributes. Not everyone will be a basketball star; therefore we want our players to have a Plan A, B, C and D if necessary.

Entrepreneurial Program:

The Unique Sports Generation entrepreneurial program offers the participants an opportunity to explore careers in sales and manufacturing. Participants will receive sales training while developing interpersonal skills. The apparel company Unique Sports Generation will provide the clothing and training for this entrepreneurial program. Team participants are trained to articulate sales presentations and sell merchandise, which will in turn raises money for team expenses. Team members have the opportunity to take on the positions of Sales Representative, Inventory Clerk, and Sales Manager.

Organizational Description:

Unique Sports Generation (USG) Unique Sports Generation is a privately held, minority owned business engaged in the design, manufacturing and distribution of sportswear apparel.
